The Shadowy Abyss

Randomly, adventurers appear to be overcome by either visions or they spontaneously recite lines of poetry.

• 06/03/2025 - Thus far, there doesn't seem to be a theory or connection on who sees the visions or recites the poems.

Rhymes

Individuals who recite the poems seem to see a vision of a scroll or document announcing the title of the poem.

Hollybear's expression grows distant as she murmurs a quiet verse:

    "One of us still walks the tide,
     Though flesh is gone and tears have dried.
     Her comb was taken from the sea,
     Now she dreams of being free."

Aesom's expression grows distant as he murmurs a quiet verse:

    "Who dares disturb the salt-kissed dead,
     Who sleep where no sun has ever tread?"

Raelee's expression grows distant as she murmurs a quiet verse:

    "The captain lies in a watery keep,
     Still gripping the comb that binds her to sleep."

Delindra's expression grows distant as she murmurs a quiet verse:

    "Her sisters sing from reef and foam,
     We beg you, send her comb back home.
     Or watch the mist crawl up the quay,
     And feel her sorrow fill the sea."

Anferis's expression grows distant as he murmurs a quiet verse:

    "She once swam proud through Charl's wide blue,
     Now chained to planks, her song struck through.
     The price of love turned cold and cruel,
     The comb now keeps her bound by rule."

    "Eyes in the sky and mist turned green,
     He sees all who touch what should not be seen."

    "The sea will not rest, nor the storm be still,
     'Til her comb is returned to the deep against will."

    "He held her with a sailor's knot,
     Now ghosts drift where they once fought.
     The shell that once her fingers knew,
     Is cursed for all who keep it too."

Visions

Some adventurers report slipping into a trance and seeing something obscure.

A strange pressure wells behind your eyes, and the sound of the sea floods your ears.  Your vision dims as your eyes cloud with a silvery blue cast.  You feel weightless, drifting, and before you realize it, you begin to murmur in a voice not quite your own. Coming unbidden into your mind's eye, your vision swims and fills with fish swimming backward as the ocean breathes out.  You are no longer breathing in.  Then the sea exhales again, and the natural rhythm of your body returns. Slowly, you feel yourself returning to your body, and you feel a prickling of pins and needles upon your limp limbs.  You blink several times and feel as if you are struggling through thick layers of cobwebs before your vision finally returns to normal. Roundtime: 5 secs.
