The Instrument Tuner is a mechanical tool that indicates how well a musical instrument is tuned. When the tuner is held in one hand and TAPped while holding an instrument in the other hand, it produces messaging ranging from a clear, perfect note to a nerve-grating dissonance. The tuner diagnoses the instrument's condition but does not actually tune it. Only a bard can TUNE an instrument.

The tuner reports one of five tuning conditions for the instrument held in the user's other hand. An unusable or severely out-of-tune instrument produces a dull thud.
