The Twinned Gladius and Falchion were a weapon set raffled off during the Mist Harbor Street Festival 2010. Donated by a wealthy elven family, the Twinned Gladius and Falchion are held in a polished case of kakore. Bards working for the Merchant Council of Mist Harbor have stated that the pieces speak of a bond between an elf and a halfling during the time of the Great Undead Wars.

a kakore-hilted etched mithril gladius

Description

Fashioned of mithril, the gladius has a short, wide blade that is encased by a hilt of polished kakore at one end. Etched into the golden wood is the image of a knotwork stallion, its body depicted in abstract and its head topped in a flowing mane of interlocking infinite knots. Damascened images, echoing the hilt's design, surge across the blade as if erupting from the simple crossguard, only to thin near the tip. A counterweight of black thunderhead opal is trapped in an alum cage at the hilt's base. A faint aura of holy light radiates from the gladius.

Properties

Green beam and a pure high note at AI crystal.

Loresong

Soft and inviting, the song of the gladius mingles with yours and your vision begins to cloud. Seconds pass and your mind's eye fills with the image of a halfling sitting astride a shaggy pony. Gentle rain slowly soaks the rolling hills, but it doesn't seem to bother the pair, who sit in silence with their gaze upon a distant hill. Slowly, a shape takes form in the mist and the halfling waves in greeting to an elf. Turning, the pair head down the hill to a small village and the vision fades.

Warm light fills your mind's eye as the vision of a meeting hall bursts to life. Dozens of halflings sit before an enormous fire and listen to the pleas of an elf. Tension is heavy in the chamber and the halflings gaze at the tall man in horror as he shares details of an invading army. Stepping forward, the halfling from the previous vision is the first to offer his aid, and soon others follow his lead. Nodding, the elf silently thanks the halfling, who grins and nods. Moments later, the vision fades.

Terrible moans and harsh groans fill the air as your vision swims with ebon and sanguine lights. Undead hordes rise out of the ground and surge forward with feral hunger, while pockets of humans, halflings, elves, and giantmen form the armies of the living striving to hold back those of the dead. Separated from his brethren, a lone halfling fights upon his pony in the middle of a growing circle of ghouls. As the vision fades, an elf manages to fight his way to the other's side.

Grunts rise on the air and the sound of a horse screaming in pain is suddenly cut off as your vision fills with the scene of a battle. Pinned beneath the lifeless pony, a halfling gasps in pain and desperately tries to fight off the advancing undead. An elven man moves to the halfling's side, but grimaces when he sees the grievous injuries the small body has sustained. As the light begins to fade from the halfling's eyes, he presses his etched mithril gladius into the elf's hand. Slowly, the vision fades away.

The etched mithril gladius trembles slightly in your hands, but you sense you will unearth nothing more from it.

a kakore-hilted etched mithril falchion

Description

Fashioned of mithril, the falchion has a long, narrow blade that is encased by a hilt of polished kakore at one end. Etched into the golden wood is the image of a knotwork stallion, its body depicted in abstract and its head topped in a flowing mane of interlocking infinite knots. Damascened images, echoing the design of the hilt, surge across the blade as if erupting from the simple crossguard, only to thin near the tip. A counterweight of a black opal is trapped in an alum cage at the hilt's base. You also notice a small enchanter's glyph.

Properties

Green beam at the AI crystal.

Loresong

Mist shifts across your vision as the song you sing weaves around the falchion. Slowly, the obstruction parts and you see the image of an elf running through a thickly wooded area, his eyes on the skies. Time seems to elapse and the elf passes into and out of trees, through glades and dells, until he finally crests a hill and stands before a halfling mounted upon a pony. Smiling, the elf greets the other man with a warm welcome that is returned. The vision fades as the two turn as one towards a village.

The sound of a fire crackling grows louder than the song you sing to the falchion and within seconds your vision is filled with the image of a council of halflings. Standing before them, an elf implores them to join the ranks of the other races in a battle against the undead. Fear is banished from the elf's eyes and replaced with gratitude as first one halfling, and then another, steps forward. As the vision fades, you notice that all the warriors in the council have volunteered.

Quiet and solemn is the song that rises from the etched mithril falchion. Slowly, light fills your vision and before you stands an elf who has a mourning cloth wrapped around his upper arm. Soft words of inquiry pass between the elf and the blacksmith that stands before him. Nodding in understanding, the blacksmith accepts the elf's falchion and a gladius. Time passes and random images play before your mind's eye of the smith reforging the falchion so that it matches the gladius. Gradually, the vision fades.

The etched mithril falchion vibrates slightly in your hand, but reveals nothing more.
