BLACK ASH TREE

I loved you once and love you still

But in all things we knew our fate

Yet for a blessing, could not wait

I laid you down upon the grass

And lost ourselves in ecstasy

Beneath the black ash tree

The eve drew on and night long passed

You carved our names into the bark

And traced your finger down the mark

Etching your love into my heart

I never will forget, you see

Beneath the black ash tree

Your words are now an epitaph

So I wandered the world alone

Toward the way south, a star had shown

The light above caressed my heart

And called me home to honor thee

Beneath the black ash tree

The years have ended one by one

Returning to this sacred grove

I ducked beneath the branches cove

To cherish what you left behind

Calling forth what’s left of me

Beneath the black ash tree

I thought time could heal, I was wrong

Now that you’re gone, my heart did die

But thoughts of you still make me cry

I traced a finger down the mark

To honor your sweet memory

Beneath the black ash tree

And lonely shall I ever be
