Subject: Hey, archers ...

.... ammo maintenance got you down?

Sick of tedious bundling?

Want to carry different types of ammo with you, but continually get crushed from all that extra weight?

Then the Compartmentalized Quiver may be for you!

<insert ad jingle>

But what is a Compartmentalized Quiver, you ask?

General Information

  • At T1 and above, they will auto-bundle ammo placed inside them.
  • At T1 and above, they gain access to having extra compartments that can carry ONE (1) extra bundle of ammo weightlessly per compartment.
  • The currently selected compartment will have its contents affect your encumberance. [IE, the bundle of ammo currently accessible will affect you, but ammo that are stored in the extra compartments are made weightless.]
  • TURN to select a new compartment.
  • Each compartment adds 1 pound to the quiver's weight, regardless if there is a bundle inside it or not.
  • Each compartment can only hold ONE (1) bundle of ammo.

Here's a breakdown of functionality for each tier.

T0/OTS

  • Plain 1 pound quiver.
  • 1 compartment, /NO/ weightless storage.
  • 4 zests (GET, PUT, RUB, CLEAN)

T1

  • Auto-bundle activated.
  • Extra compartments activated. [Weightlessly store ONE (1) bundle of ammo per extra compartment, not including the currently selected one.]
  • Toggleable ammo display feature. [Displays the ammo in the long description for the currently selected compartment.]
  • Minimum 2 total compartments, maximum 4 total compartments.
  • IE, at maximum it can store 3 extra bundles of ammo weightlessly.

T2

  • Auto-bundle activated.
  • Extra compartments activated. [Weightlessly store ONE (1) bundle of ammo per extra compartment, not including the currently selected one.]
  • GATHER ability activated. [Get ammo from ground, place in quiver.]
  • Auto-fire ability activated. [Equip ammo and fire in one motion.]
  • Toggleable ammo display feature. [Displays the ammo in the long description for the currently selected compartment.]
  • Toggleable flare display feature. [Description of quiver changes to match material or flare of ammo in currently selected compartment, additional messaging with various zests.]
  • Minimum 2 total compartments, maximum 6 total compartments.
  • IE, at maximum it can store 5 bundles of ammo weightlessly.

Here are some snippets of it in action!

>pull my quiver
In a graceful motion, you reach for the platinum quiver on your shoulder. You remove a single wooden arrow from a bundle of wooden arrows. >push my quiver
With a smooth, practiced motion, you reach towards your platinum quiver. You slide a wooden arrow into your platinum quiver, carefully combining it with a bundle of wooden arrows already inside. You add a wooden arrow to your bundle. >touch my quiver
You run your hand along the base of your platinum quiver and depress the bottom inward, ensuring that a portion of any ammo inside will show above the rim. The quiver gives a satisfying click noise.

You tap a platinum quiver containing a bundle of wooden arrows that you are wearing.

This is all with a fully unlocked (T2) quiver:

>prod my quiver
You depress a cleverly hidden button on the side of your platinum quiver. A subtle humming noise starts up accompanied by a whir of gears.
A radiant glow of brilliant white light surrounds the platinum quiver.

You tap a gleaming platinum quiver surrounded by a brilliant white glow that you are wearing.

>pull my quiver
In a graceful motion, you reach for the platinum quiver on your shoulder. You remove a single wooden arrow from a bundle of wooden arrows.
A pure, bell-like tone rings from the platinum quiver.
>turn my quiver
Several clicks sound as you rotate the glaesine top of your platinum quiver, turning to the next compartment.
As the new compartment clicks into place, a bundle of heavy crossbow bolts can be seen nestled within.
The brilliant white glow surrounding the platinum quiver slowly fades into dimness. With a rattling noise, several bones appear on the surface of the platinum quiver.
Roundtime: 2 sec.

You tap a weathered platinum quiver decorated with various small bones that you are wearing.

>pull my quiver
In a graceful motion, you reach for the platinum quiver on your shoulder. You remove a single heavy crossbow bolt from a bundle of heavy crossbow bolts.
The sharp rattle of dry bones rises into the air from the platinum quiver.

[NOTE: If there are no flares on the ammo, it uses the material of the ammo instead, such as 'bone' above.]

You can also TURN to a specific compartment. Use INSPECT to see the contents of your quiver. (Available for T1 and T2.)

>inspect my quiver
The quiver appears to be made of platinum. It looks like it would be best worn slung over a shoulder. It looks to have 2 compartments inside with the following configuration:
1. a bundle of wooden arrows [Current]
2. a bundle of heavy crossbow bolts
Type TURN quiver TO # to turn to a specific compartment.

AVAILABILITY - T0/OTS quivers. Unlimited. Cost: 2,500
- T1 Unlock Certificate. Limit 25. Cost: 10,000.
- T2 Unlock Certificate. Limit 1. Cost: 50,000.
- Add 1 Extra Compartment Certificate. Limit 20. Cost: 5,000.

The single T2 unlock certificate will be found in the brand new Treasure Trove!

NOTE: All other unlock certificates can be found in the back room of the quiver shop "Bundle Up", though this back room will be initially closed upon the shop opening.

I realize there was a slight delay in getting these announced and want to be sure people are aware of these guys prior to the limited certificates becoming available. Plus it gives people time to ask questions, etc.

Expect the back room with the certificates to open up sometime in the evening/night EST on Sunday, December 16th. (I will post a more firm timeframe once I know more on how my schedule looks.)

Thanks!

Subject: Hey, archers ...

I forgot to post these additional clips yesterday - things got hectic and then it was bedtime!

This is an example of one of the 2 fluff zests - RUB - which is available to the T0/OTS quivers on up. Note that the messaging is slightly different depending on whether you have a bow in your hand or if there is ammo in the current compartment.

>rub my quiver
With a sephwir long bow held ready in your left hand, you rest your right hand on the wooden arrows inside the platinum quiver at your shoulder, your blue-green eyes alert for threats.

The following are both T2/fully unlocked abilities.

This is the "auto-fire" mechanic. You must have the current compartment set to a type of ammo that will work with the bow (or crossbow) in your left hand. Crossbows have to be COCKed to use this ability. The only RT involved is the RT from the actual FIRE command, so there is no extra RT for this. It's basically combining 2 commands into one with some fancy messaging.

>pinch my quiver
With lightning-fast reflexes, you reach towards the platinum quiver on your shoulder. You remove a single wooden arrow from a bundle of wooden arrows.
Moving with easy grace, you swing the wooden arrow into position with your sephwir long bow. You nock a wooden arrow in your sephwir long bow.
You fire a wooden arrow at a greater burrow orc!
AS: +433 vs DS: +24 with AvD: +31 + d100 roll: +64 = +504
... and hit for 181 points of damage!
Perfect strike to abdomen. The burrow orc howls in pain and drops quite dead!
A greater burrow orc growls one last time and dies.
The wooden arrow sticks in a greater burrow orc's abdomen!
Roundtime: 4 sec.

This is also for the T2/fully unlocked quivers. This is the GATHER ability. Note that this is sort of equivalent to gathering the ammo yourself and putting it in the quiver, but it does it for you with one command.

>gather my quiver
You efficiently canvas the area, searching for ammo. You gather 2 wooden arrows into a bundle.
Having gathered all you can, you reach towards your platinum quiver. You slide a bundle of wooden arrows into your platinum quiver, carefully combining it with a bundle of wooden arrows already inside. You bundle some wooden arrows together.
Roundtime: 2 sec.

In regards to the auto-bundle ability, which is available to both T1 and T2 quivers, it will essentially search for a like piece of ammo to bundle with whenever you put ammo into it. Thus if your current compartment is a bundle of blessed arrows, but you try to put an unblessed arrow into it, it will find the compartment with the unblessed arrows to bundle it with. Similar with Ebladed arrows or even the mechanical arrows that 'break' and make arrows that are slightly different than the originals - it will automatically bundle/sort the ammo you put into it if you have enough compartments to handle it.

If you guys have any questions on other things, please don't hesitate to ask.

Thanks,
~Avaluka

Subject: Compartmentalized Quivers - New Feature and QOL Updates!

Compartmentalized Quivers are coming back for the next run of Duskruin! All of the unlock certificates available last run will be refreshed and available at the same quantities/limits noted before. (Pricing/limits for certificates are listed at the bottom of this post.) All of the quiver designs have been changed/refreshed.

In addition, there is a new feature that can be unlocked for T1 or T2 quivers: auto-advancement. When this feature is active, the quiver will automatically advance to a full compartment when it senses that the current compartment has been emptied. A new unlock certificate will be available to unlock this feature.

A snippet of the new feature in action on a T2 quiver with Flare Display active:

>spin my quiver
Reaching to the side of your quiver, you wind up the spring-loaded gears attached there. Each turn of your hand produces a chorus of clicking noises until the gears reach the correct tension.
Roundtime: 5 sec.
>pull my quiver
In a graceful motion, you reach for the quiver on your shoulder. You remove a faewood arrow from in your quiver.
The layer of icy frost covering the quiver melts away.
>
[About 3 seconds later ...]
Without any contents to hold it back, the tension in the spring-loaded gears attached to your quiver starts to slowly release. Accompanied by a steady clicking noise, the mechanism starts to advance to a new compartment.
With a whir, the gears stop on a bundle of arrows as the compartment clicks into place.
Flickering flames erupt along the length of the quiver.

Notes:

  • This behavior will continue indefinitely until you turn off the feature with SPIN.
  • There is roughly a 3 second pause before the feature kicks in to advance, but there is no RT associated with it since it is automatic.
  • This feature will only kick in if you manually empty the current compartment. If you merely TURN to an empty compartment normally, it will not advance (because that would make it super annoying to try to put arrows back in.)
  • As noted above, this will only be unlockable for T1 or T2 quivers, as you need at least one extra compartment to make this work.

Other General Quality of Life Updates:

  • The quivers will now play nice with STOW/STORE when the description changes via Ammo Display or Flare Display.
  • CLENCH will now do the same thing that PULL does, but it won't knock you out of hiding. Knocking you out of hiding was not intended in my original design when you equip an arrow.
  • The compartments are now noted as being lined with veniom in the show, as this more accurately describes the fact they negate encumbrance when not active.

[The above QOL improvements should be live already - if you find any issues, please don't hesitate to post here.]

Certificate Pricing:

  • T0 to T1 Unlock Certificate. 10k Bloodscrip base price, scaling pricing, unlimited.
  • T1 to T2 Unlock Certificate. 50k bloodscrip base price, scaling pricing, limit 2.
  • +1 Compartment Certificate. 5k bloodscrip base price, scaling pricing, unlimited.
  • Auto-Advancement Certificate. 5k bloodscrip base price, scaling pricing, unlimited.

Thanks!

>> To be clear: any arrows that you have in compartments that are NOT "the active one", give you NO encumbrance? (So you can carry all the ammo, but not be hindered by it?)

Yes, exactly. There is always 1 compartment that is in the "active" slot. Ammo in this compartment can be pulled from/manipulated and acts normally with encumbrance.

Any "extra" compartments beyond the one that is currently "active" are completely weightless. Each compartment only holds 1 bundle of ammo. Each compartment confers 1 pound to the quiver's overall weight. There is a bit of a balancing act with this - do you want the overall quiver to be lighter or do you want more weightless slots?

The total number of compartments noted in the various limitations includes the "active" compartment.

For example, a T1 quiver can have a maximum of 4 compartments (1 "active", 3 "extra") with a minimum of 2 (1 "active", 1 "extra") You would need to get 2 of the +1 Compartment Certificates to fully expand the compartments on a T1 quiver.

It is similar for a T2 quiver, but they can have a maximum of 6 compartments total.

The auto-bundle feature on the quiver will also search in the "extra"/weightless compartments when you put an arrow/bolt inside to try to find a match that it can bundle with. So you can have fire-flaring ammo in an "extra" compartment, cold-flaring ammo in the "active" compartment ... yet when you attempt to add another of the fire-flaring arrows to your quiver, it will turn the "extra" compartment with the fire-flaring ammo to the "active" compartment and bundle it with the rest.

Think of it like a carousel of ammo with only one compartment available at a time. Or like a revolver ... except not with bullets but with bundles of ammo.

There is a wiki article, as well, but I have yet to update it with the new features: Compartmentalized quiver

"To include accounting for Blessed status, on top of just description/Enchant/flare, I'm guessing?" ~ Krakii

If you put a non-blessed arrow inn the quiver with a blessed bundle in the "active" slot, it would find a new slot for the non-blessed arrow and keep your blessed arrows separate. What it is essentially doing is checking each compartment and asking "can I bundle with you?" until it either finds a match or an empty compartment.

"So instead of carrying 600 arrows (6 bundles @ 100) == 60 pounds of encumbrance, a character with a fully-blinged T2w/max# would be carrying 600 arrows == 10 pounds encumbrance (plus weight of quiver itself [== base of quiver +5 pounds for extra compartments]), AND when picking up/"gather"ing used ammo would NOT have to worry about cycling the device to hit the correct one; 'gather/put in quiver' would auto-locate the correct socket and stow them there." ~ Krakii

Correct. In addition, a T2 quiver has the "Auto-Gather" ability, in which you'd merely have to do "GATHER MY QUIVER" and it will scour the ground, gather the arrows and automatically place them in your quiver. (Essentially like doing GATHER arrow, put arrow in my quiver ... but all in one command.)

Also, base quivers are 1 pound. A maxed T2 quiver with 6 compartments would be 6 pounds base, plus whatever weight of the arrows/ammo in the "active" compartment.

"I know that many revolver-users keep one chamber empty (where the hammer is), in order to prevent accidental discharge. Do I correctly interpret your writings here that doing the same thing--6 chambers, 5 with ammo, 'active' one is the empty--would result in +0 encumbrance (only the weight of the quiver itself)? Until it cycled to something for you to shoot, obviously." ~ Krakii

Yes, that is a strategy you could use. However, you would have to use TURN (roundtime 2 seconds) to switch to a compartment with ammo in it in order to have access to ammo to shoot with. You can't equip an arrow/bolt if the "active" compartment is empty. But I suppose if you were not actively shooting anything and wanted to save some weight, you could switch to the empty compartment. (You can also switch to a specific compartment using TURN quiver TO #, where as just TURN cycles to the next compartment in line. INSPECT shows you the numbers of the compartments and what is in them.)

"Does the act of cashing in a T0->T1 certificate, automatically confer the +1 compartment? (Reading the 'analyze' in the "~Unlock Status~ by Tier" section on the CQ GSWiki page could lead one to assume that. Goes from 'nothing special' at Tier0 to '2 out of 4' at Tier1.)" ~ Krakii

Yes. Using a T0 to T1 unlock certificate gives you a "free" bonus extra compartment, as none of the features really work without at least one "extra" compartment. But if you want anything beyond the minimum/base, you need to buy +1 Compartment certificates. At a fresh T1 unlock status, the quiver would weigh 2 pounds (1 pound for each compartment). T0 quivers only have 1 compartment, so they are 1 pound.

Hopefully I answered all your questions! :)

Subject: T2 Compartmentalized Quiver Fix/Change

As of yesterday, the GATHER functionality for the T2 Compartmentalized Quivers will no longer induce RT on its own. There is still RT to change compartments, however, so if you GATHER ammo that needs to be moved into a different compartment, there will still be a 2 sec RT. If you are just using GATHER quiver to place ammo in the currently active compartment, however, there will be no RT assessed anymore.

There is still an issue with PINCH that is being investigated - I will update here if/when there is progress on that. I just wanted to get this GATHER update out for everyone.

Thanks and happy archery,

As of this morning, the AIM issue with the T2 Compartmentalized Quiver's auto-fire (PINCH) feature is fixed. It will properly take into account your AIM preference now.

The way the feature handles targets was also fixed, as well, so that it will take into account your TARGET and act more efficiently, in general, in finding a creature to target.

Thanks for your patience, as well as bringing the oddity to my attention. (And thanks also go to Ixix, who helped in squashing this particular bug.)

If you notice anymore issues, please don't hesitate to post here.

Thanks,

Subject: T2 Compartmentalized Quiver Fix/Change

I'll be making a separate post at some point detailing all the updates to the quivers due to the archery changes, but for now:

The tiering notation for Compartmentalized Quivers has changed, and the new tiering notation is live in all instances.

  • What was formerly T0/OTS is now T1/OTS
  • What was formerly T1 is now T2 (unlocked once)
  • What was formerly T2 is now T3 (fully unlocked)

If there happen to be any old unlock certificates floating around, these will be updated to the new notation upon the first initial RAISE of the certificate.

The actual unlocks have not changed, as far as how many there are (just 2), it's just the tiering notification.

I just wanted to get this out here as there seems to be a bit of confusion due to the Archery document using the old notation, which no longer is matching the updated quivers. Regardless, though, ANALYZE should list all features your quiver has access to.

Thanks,
~Avaluka

Subject: Compartmentalized Quivers V2: The Quivering

Compartmentalized Quivers have gotten an overhaul to fit with the new archery changes! You'll still be able to venture over to Bundle Up to pick up one of these quivers and enjoy their new features.

T1/OTS quivers are fairly normal with some verbs that can make some of your actions fancy. This year, you'll be able to find thigh-worn varieties in addition to the regular belt-worn and shoulder-worn ones.

Unlocked quivers have access to extra compartments that can carry an extra bundle of ammo weightlessly.

READY AMMO the quiver itself to take advantage of the quiver's features.

*Tier 2*
- TURN to change the ammo bundle used when you FIRE.
- INSPECT to view all attributes of your ammo in one output (flares, master-fletched charges, blessed, etc.)
- Toggleable ammo display feature.
- Minimum 2 compartments, maximum 4.

*Tier 3*
- Smart change feature with attunement (attune to a creature and automatically swap to the appropriate ammo as you FIRE).
- Gem-fueled creature bane tied to the attunement of each compartment.
- Toggleable Flare display feature that changes description.
- Minimum 2 compartments, maximum 6.

Some more details on the fully unlocked (T3) major features, which are the Creature Attunement and Creature Bane:
* Creature Attunement (T3 Only)
Each compartment can be attuned to a specific creature, or fine-tuned to focus on a general feature of that foe.
When you FIRE, the quiver will automatically switch to the ammo you have attuned to that creature, or the closest match.
You can set a default compartment as a fallback for foes you haven't attuned.
- POINT the quiver at a foe to attune it.
- SPIN the quiver to fine-tune the focus, such as focusing only on undead or trolls.
- PINCH the quiver to clear that compartment's attunement.
- POINT at the quiver to set a default compartment.
NOTE: At this time, the quiver is expecting you to have 1 type of ammo (arrows OR bolts) inside it, so it won't be able to figure out between crossbows and bows currently. At this time, you should not mix arrows and bolts in the same quiver.

* Creature Bane (T3 Only)
Feed the quiver gems to power a bane effect.
Each compartment can have its own bane and charges, and it is based off of the attunement set with POINT.
- Use PUSH to feed any gem, with more valuable gems giving more charges.
NOTE: This is a +5 AS creature bane. Undead-focused compartments are given lesser undead bane, /not/ greater (you still need a bless!)

Unlock certificates will be available to advance your quiver's tier, as well as to add an extra compartment (which allows the quiver to carry an extra bundle of ammo weightlessly), or unlock the new Wear Location swap feature (swap between belt, shoulder, and thigh-worn at will).

Pricing
T1/OTS to T2 Unlock Certificate = 10,000 bloodscrip (Unlimited Quantity)
T2 to T3 Unlock Certificate = 50,000 bloodscrip (Limit 2)
+1 Compartment certificate = 5,000 bloodscrip (Unlimited Quantity)
Wear Location Swap unlock certificate = 5,000 bloodscrip (Unlimited Quantity)

NOTE: As the T2 to T3 certificates are limited, likely popular, and probably going to be snapped up fast, I'm planning on spinning for the chance to purchase these certificates at a specific time (TBA) instead of just putting them for sale in the shop. This will hopefully make it a bit fairer rather than everyone swarming to the shop to try to grab the T3 certificates within the first 1 minute of opening. Shattered will obviously have the T3 certificates in the shop as usual, and potentially Platinum as well (depending on interest).

I'll be happy to clarify anything if it's too confusing!

Thanks, Avaluka

If you have the Wear Location side feature unlocked, you will see an additional line under the "Unlock Status" section in the ANALYZE, such as below:

~Unlock Status~
This quiver is currently fully unlocked (Tier 3 of 3).
At this tier, you have access to the verbs: RUB, CLEAN, GET, DROP/PUT, NUDGE, TINKER, TURN, TOUCH, POINT, PINCH, SPIN, PUSH, PROD.
In addition, this quiver has the Wear Location Swap feature unlocked, which gives it access to FOLD (change wear location) and PULL (toggle wear description).
You can use INSPECT to see the configuration of the compartments and their contents.

Subject: Minor Compartmentalized Quiver fix

This really should not affect many of you at all, but I'm posting just in case anyone notices any odd side effects I may not have anticipated.

There was a minor issue involving ammo in T2 and T3 quivers where there were a lot of aesthetic customizations to the point of it making a show description instead of a long description on the ammo. In some rare cases, this was causing the quiver to eat the ammo. (Note: You would definitely know if you were affected by this, as you would have gotten a notification to ASSIST when trying to TURN your quiver to the compartment containing the extra fancy-looking ammo.)

This is now fixed, though, and the quiver's appetite should be soothed.

If you still notice your Compartmentalized Quiver not properly saving the long description or show description of your ammo, though, please BUGITEM your quiver and respond here. However, I did test quite extensively and the change itself was very small, so I doubt this will cause any further issues.

Thanks!
Avaluka
