The Picture card is a writable card designed for use with a Picture album. Its painted image and optional message can be stored on a page of the album. Unlike pictures magically created by the album, a card-based picture can later be removed intact.

Off-the-Shelf

The card can hold a message of up to 200 characters. It can be inserted into a Picture album, cleaned for reuse, or permanently destroyed.

Analyze

You analyze your painted card and sense that the creator has provided the following information:

A talented merchant can alter the card, though only the Common language can be used for lettering.

A close look at this card makes it clear that it can be added to a book that holds and paints pictures of its own. If you put it in that kind of album, then when you remove it, the base of the card will show as "a painted card," though the actual paint and lettering will retain their original quality.

If you have any kind of "quill," you can use it with the card to WRITE. You can also try to CLEAN and TOUCH the card. If you want to completely destroy it, TEAR it up!

Usage

Verb Condition First Second Third
CLEAN No writing You carefully primp up your card, cleaning off the surface as best you can. XXX carefully primps his painted card.
CLEAN Writing; first attempt You look at the writing on your card, trying to best determine how to clean it off.

If you truly want to clean off the current writing, just CLEAN the same card again within the next 30 seconds. Once it's gone, you can't get it back!
CLEAN Writing; confirmation Using the backside of your wrist, you carefully rub away the writing on your card. Using the backside of his wrist, XXX carefully rubs the surface of a painted card.
DROP
PUT
Into a Picture album You carefully place a painted card on the first blank page that you find in your gold-trimmed dark leather album. It wavers slightly, then seems to melt into the center of the page. XXX carefully places a painted card on a page of his gold-trimmed dark leather album.
TEAR First attempt You place your fingers along the edges of your painted card.

Type the command again within the next 30 seconds in order to shred your card, which will completely destroy it. THIS WILL BE PERMANENT!
TEAR Confirmation Using quick motions, you rip your painted card to shreds! Using quick motions, XXX rips his painted card to shreds!
TOUCH Held Sliding a single finger along the edge of your painted card, you allow your thoughts to drift. Sliding a single finger along the edge of his painted card, XXX appears lost in thought.
WRITE Held with a quill Using your quill, you carefully ink a message onto the painted card. Using his quill, XXX carefully inks a message onto his painted card.

Additional information

  • Use WRITE CARD;message while holding the card in one hand and an item with the noun “quill” in the other.
  • Messages are limited to 200 characters and must be appropriate for the game.
  • Existing writing must be removed with two uses of CLEAN before a new message can be added.
  • TEAR requires a second use within 30 seconds and permanently destroys the card.
  • Inserting the card into a Picture album consumes the physical card and records its painted image and writing on the first available page.
  • When the card is retrieved from an album, its base description becomes “a painted card.” Its painted image and writing are preserved.
  • Only the owner of the corresponding album can insert and retrieve cards.
