This spell temporarily cuts off the target’s connection with their magic, leaving them unable to cast a spell for fifteen seconds.

This spell will prevent a creature or player from casting a spell successfully (any attempts will drain the mana from the spell, but the spell will be blocked). It will also keep creatures from using magic items (for example, sand devils) for its duration. Beware, this spell will not prevent a target from preparing a spell. So if they prepare a spell, they can still cast it if the spell wears off before they have attempted a cast or have lost the spell from memory. This spell is difficult to resist, and it forces a TD penalty on its target.

Determining The TD Penalty

Creatures receive a TD penalty equal to the caster’s wisdom bonus minus one, plus the level difference between the caster and the target. A sorcerer with a wisdom bonus of 30 casting at a creature 10 levels below them would force a TD reduction of 39. Likewise, a sorcerer with a wisdom bonus of 30 casting at a creature 10 levels above them would force a TD reduction of only 19. It is possible to grant the target a TD increase if they are sufficiently more well trained than the caster.

Players receive a TD penalty that is equal to the caster’s wisdom bonus plus the level difference between the caster and the target. There is no reduction of one to the original wisdom bonus as there is in the case of creatures.
