House of Twilight

[House of Twilight - 8084613]
Curls of once decadent wallpaper are abandoning the wall in several places, leaving bare wood beneath, and cobwebs span every corner. An archway, staircase, and door at the rear of the foyer are roped off, but a lintel-capped mistwood door stands open off to the side, framed on one side by a repurposed coat rack laden with harnesses and an old nail barrel with a plank top on the other. A hastily written note is attached to the barrel, a small sign is attached to the rack, and a very large parchment notice hangs directly above a massive hole in the floor.

a small sign

In the Common language, it reads:

This harness is to be worn OVER THE FRONT of the body, with the straps lying atop the shoulders, draping down to lie against the sides, and joining in some fashion in the back (usually crisscrossing the back or having a strap connecting the straps across the back of the shoulders and another at the lower back).

It can be TUCKED under your outerwear, and it is made to hold daggers, hook-knives, darts, fist-scythes, and katars. If you have trouble figuring out how to wear the thing, ask your closest dress-wearing companion. They know all about straps and laces and buckles and such. If you don't believe me, ask them!

Each harness will hold two weapons as is.

a hastily written note
In the Common language, it reads:

These are cigar slings! Meant to hold cigars. Obviously. You can TUCK them to hide them beneath any outerwear article of clothing WITH SLEEVES (cloaks don't have sleeves, in case you didn't know). Get one and amaze your friends with the fancy smoking supplies you have at hand! Each sling will hold two cigars.

a very large parchment notice
In the Common language, it reads:

Some dreams come to us fully formed, but alas, this one did not!

So forgive our mess while we get our s...tuff together.

    ~ Rescher, Proprietor

P.S. - Watch out for that hole in the floor! I have no idea where it goes!

On the coat rack you see: a simple black leather harness, an ivory suede dagger harness, a dark crimson suede harness, and a cobalt leather dagger harness.

House of Twilight, Workroom

[House of Twilight, Workroom - 8084614]
The disrepair of the walls is mostly hidden behind an array of large squares of parchment pinned in place by silver tacks. Everything from architecture to clothing designs are accounted for, with the latter being mostly centered over the makeshift worktable at the rear of the room, where samples of cloth -- damask, satin, and jacquard -- litter the top. An adjustable dress form stands bare in one corner, while a square pedestal table stands beside it.

On the pedestal table you see: a tumbler of honey whiskey and a glass of lemon water.

A Neatly Dug Rectangular Grave

[A Neatly Dug Rectangular Grave - 8083367]
Apparently, this is a relatively deep hole, six feet deep and seven feet long by reckoning, seemingly rectangular in shape rather like...a grave. It's a grave. The size and dimensions, hard pack of the dirt, the precise cut of the walls, vertical and slightly intimidating from this angle, give it away. Yep. This is a grave.
Obvious exits: none

The Graveyard Temporalis

[The Graveyard Temporalis - 8083334]
Several freshly dug graves lie in a straight line parallel to the path, though none have markers except for one carelessly abandoned shovel shoved blade-first into the ground at the head of the last vacant hole. The dense mist covering the ground largely avoids the empty graves, save for one in the middle, and there, tendrils of mist spill over the edge like long, distended fingers reaching in to dig something out.

The Graveyard Temporalis

[The Graveyard Temporalis - 8083335]
The path curves slightly westward here around a both ancient and very dead tree. Its leafless limbs stretch up and out, over the path toward the sky, as if searching for something unknowable like a penitent at prayer. Though dead, the tree is sturdy and hale, with black bark and crevices between the clusters of branches and within the trunk itself that invite investigation. Beneath the tree's menacing guard are several crypts in a row, spaced out on either side of its looming countenance.

The Graveyard Temporalis

[The Graveyard Temporalis - 8083336]
A few, small dead trees line the eastern edge of the path, bark blackened and limbs missing or barely hanging on by the merest splinter of wood. Beyond those, deeper into a plot of land dotted with tombstones and grave markers, stands a modestly sized statue of a robed figure. The figure's head is bowed, hands clasped with fingers laced just beneath her chin. At her feet, a hodgepodge array of candles burn fitfully.

The Graveyard Temporalis

[The Graveyard Temporalis - 8083337]
A stonework gazebo, with stately pillars and a filigreed wrought iron dome, lurks off to the north of the path, accompanied by a couple of towering oaks. The long moss-laden branches offer a certain amount of coverage to the structure, which is otherwise open to the sky, but the tangle of dark green, crimson-veined vines laced into its iron work offers far more. Gravestones set at awkward angles, half-sunk into the soft ground, encircle the gazebo.

The Graveyard Temporalis

[The Graveyard Temporalis - 8083338]
The iron fence that encloses the graveyard is caved inward under the weight of a fallen tree. Its distinct species is no longer identifiable as it has been stripped of all leaves and bark, and the wood is entirely obscured by growth colonies of lichen, motley green and amber-tipped, and mushrooms of all manner and description. A few tombstones were casualties of the falling, and one grave at the foot of a broken stone has been breached from below, with only a hand-clawed chasm left as evidence.

The Graveyard Temporalis

[The Graveyard Temporalis - 8083339]
Debris of broken tree limbs and crumbling monuments litter the ground, with the heavy and low-lying mist trickling between the stones and over the branches in thin tendrils that swirl and collect in eddies before flowing onward. On one haphazardly leaning gravestone, a single raven is perched, though it barely seems to move, only wavers as if the shifting lights of the colorful undulating sky are playing tricks on the eye.

The Graveyard Temporalis

[The Graveyard Temporalis - 8083340]
The land rises as the path moves eastward, and in the distance, the vague outline of buildings stand as silent black sentinels against the ever-changing horizon. Despite the proximity to town, there are no sounds typical of inhabitance. No voices, no movement of wagons, no music, or merriment. There is only the silence of the graveyard, the soft wind that rustles its tree limbs and whistles past monuments and the occasional whisper that brushes by, indistinct and indecipherable, as it passes.

The Graveyard Temporalis

[The Graveyard Temporalis - 8083341]
A wood-enclosed plot of graves set off the path seems far older than the stone monuments that surround it. Its borders are consumed by rot, having once been something like a foot-high fence, but now is no more than four corner posts and the adjoining beams fallen to the ground to succumb to the ravages of time and lichens. The graves themselves are sunken, their stones awkwardly tilted, creating a picture of neglect as haunting as the surrounding.

The Graveyard Temporalis

[The Graveyard Temporalis - 8083342]
A copse of trees stands still and silent, each one gnarled and twisted, laden with black leaves and blacker bark, reaching skyward with rictus limbs. The subtle, inward curve of the mass of trunks, branches, and dark bowers serves as a stark background to a few mausoleums in a uniform arrangement, with the grass that is visible beneath the swirling mists well manicured despite its sallow appearance.

The Graveyard Temporalis

[The Graveyard Temporalis - 8083343]
Black of bark and foliage, tall trees scatter this section of the graveyard, their species unidentifiable though it is obvious that their coloring is not a result of having endured the ravages of flames. In harmony with the maleficence of the setting, a discordant whistle drifts through the air, its origins impossible to decipher, while faint, blink-and-you-miss-it blood red orbs of mist appear and disappear with random regularity.

The Graveyard Temporalis

[The Graveyard Temporalis - 8083344]
A few black-shod trees line the fence separating the graveyard from the town to the east, obscuring the view from either side with an abundance of onyx-leafed coverage. There is a single mausoleum centered on this plot, which is framed by a miniature black iron palisade that is in turn ensnared by vines bearing picture-perfect violet roses.

The Graveyard Temporalis

[The Graveyard Temporalis - 8083345]
Though this stretch of grass is left largely unoccupied, it is well kept, devoid of weeds and dead leaves. Though subtle and hard to see beneath the ever-swirling mists that serve as consistent groundcover, small black-flagged stakes have been laid out to frame a trio of rectangles, side-by-side and separated by only a foot or so of space.
