A character's '''hitpoint''' value is a number which represents how much damage the character can receive before dying. There are certain critical hits that will kill a character regardless of what this value is.

A character's maximum hitpoint value is based on their [[constitution]] and their race. For example, a [[dark elf]] has a maximum hitpoint value of 120. A dark elf character with a constitution bonus of +15 would have a maximum hitpoint value of 135.

The [[Combat Toughness]] [[Combat Maneuvers|combat maneuver]] can also increase hitpoints for [[warrior]]s, [[rogue]]s, [[monk]]s, and [[paladin]]s by 15, 25, or 35 hitpoints depending on rank.
