The following was a lecture in the Mist Harbor Library Lecture series, where Missoni was the guest speaker, which was given on 8/14/5122. The topics must be lore based but otherwise are at the discretion of the invited speaker. This lecture is in regards to Faendryl glasswork. This log is for the purpose of posterity and is presented without bias. It has also been edited to be easier to read while attempting to retain an informative flow.

[Library, Meeting Hall]
A trio of wide stairs lead down from a wide archway into this brightly lit room. A small podium stands atop a small dais opposite the archway, and several cushioned benches have been arranged throughout the space, each offering an excellent line of sight. A number of elliptical windows line the walls of the hall, and a rich crimson-patterned carpet covers the entirety of the floor underfoot.
Also here: Tabubu who is sitting, Mirkk who is sitting, Loremaster Rohese who is sitting, Kalyrra who is sitting, Dendum who is sitting, Ambassador Vaikhen who is sitting, Chatelaine Traiva who is sitting, Lady Akenna who is sitting, Lady Avawren who is sitting, Mistress Khobra, Lady Landrai who is sitting, Meril who is sitting, Chairwoman Phanna who is sitting, Hadya who is sitting, Lady Arenglae who is sitting, Missoni, Relic Hunter Ordim who is sitting, Magister Raelee who is sitting, Moshari who is sitting

Rohese walks to stand behind a small podium.

Rohese graciously greets, "Good afternoon everyone."

Rohese excitedly exclaims, "Here we are again!"

Rohese eagerly begins, "As the Library's Loremaster, it gives me great pleasure to welcome you to the next in our lecture series."

Rohese brightly explains, "As I'm sure you are all aware by now, the aim is to provide a platform for imparting knowledge and encouraging discussion."

Rohese gently reminds, "I ask that everyone be considerate to our speaker, as well as those who comment or ask questions."

Rohese softly continues, "All opinions are welcome and indeed encouraged, as long as they are courteously expressed."

Rohese smiles.

Rohese softly exclaims, "As always, I am grateful that our speaker agreed to be here today and I'm sure we're in for another fascinating hour!"

Rohese affectionately says, "So, without further ado, please give the delightful Missoni Sabretache a very warm Library welcome."

Rohese beams at Missoni and claps her hands together in delight!

Missoni blushes a nice shade of dark red.

Rohese takes a few steps back.

Missoni nods gratefully at Rohese.

Khobra applauds Missoni.

Moshari applauds.

Vaikhen applauds Missoni.

Kalyrra applauds Missoni.

Missoni strides a few steps forward.

Phanna smiles at Missoni.

Meril applauds.

Phanna applauds Missoni.

Vaikhen hoots.

Landrai applauds Missoni.

Vaikhen taps a gilded jet clockwork owl's beak, causing it to whir some gears and produce a "hoot!" sound.

Akenna applauds politely.

Missoni's fingers grasp at the neckline of her cloth-of-veniom gown as she takes a deliberate, wavering breath to calm herself.

Traiva applauds Missoni.

Missoni cheerfully greets, "I see many familiar faces here. In fact, I think we have all met at one point or another, and I am so grateful that you are all here."

Missoni nods appreciatively.

Rohese smiles at Missoni.

Missoni adds, "And I hope the dueling sands are treating you well, if you are choosing to partake in them."

Arenglae nods faintly at Missoni.

Khobra smirks.

Missoni takes a deep breath.

Akenna nods cheerfully.

Phanna smiles.

Akenna flashes a wide grin.

Rohese wrinkles her nose.

Phanna takes a drink from her ice cold lemonade.

Missoni begins, "When Loremaster Rohese approached me about speaking at the library, I thought perhaps I would discuss some aspect of extraplanar scholarship. A taxonomy of beings, or perhaps of study of the valences."

Rohese inclines her head.

Missoni produces a rose-etched silver music stand from the depths of her airy robes.

Missoni sets up a rose-etched silver music stand.

Missoni amusedly quips, "I am sure she was very excited at that possibility."

Rohese laughs softly, trying to hide her amusement.

Rohese lowers her gaze.

Missoni taps a rose-etched silver music stand in an admonishing fashion. The silver music stand wiggles briefly before settling down and performing an excellent imitation of an ordinary music stand.

Rohese clears her throat.

Missoni remarks, "My interest in them is known, after all, as is their importance in Faendryl culture."

Khobra turns an inquisitive ear toward Missoni.

Vaikhen nods understandingly.

Missoni produces a painted ecru leather volume from the depths of her airy robes.

Missoni put a painted ecru leather volume on a rose-etched silver music stand.

Missoni smiles warmly, taking a few paces away from the dais and toward those gathered. Her metallic skirts glimmer with the movement.

Rohese gazes with interest at Missoni.

Missoni states, "However, I have decided to use this opportunity to expound on a lesser known aspect of Faendryl culture: glasswork."

Hadya steeples her fingers in her lap as she glances at Missoni.

Rohese gasps.

Dendum leans forward on his wooden branch, listening intently.

Missoni gazes in amusement at Rohese.

Ordim ponders.

Missoni curiously asks, "How many of you are currently carrying or wearing something made of glass? May I see a show of hands?"

Rohese clasps her hand over her mouth.

Phanna smiles at Missoni.

Rohese blushes sheepishly to herself.

Ordim carefully looks himself over.

Dendum raises his hand.

Ordim raises his hand.

Mirkk glances down.

Rohese raises her hand.

Missoni casually observes her surroundings.

Traiva raises her hand.

Rohese gazes thoughtfully at her wedding band.

Akenna ponders.

Speaking to himself, Ordim whispers aloud, "Probably."

Mirkk shakes his head.

(Vaikhen pats himself down.)

Akenna carefully looks herself over.

Phanna glances appraisingly at a glass of ice cold lemonade in her hand.

Rohese gazes in amusement at Ordim.

Khobra raises her hand.

Traiva begins chortling at Phanna.

Meril checks her equipment, adjusting and rearranging her gear.

Traiva takes a bite of her Mestanir cheese.

Missoni asks, "Does anyone mind sharing what they have with them?"

Mirkk removes an antique green-tinted glass bottle from in his wool coat.

Mirkk shrugs.

Missoni cocks her head.

Meril removes a deep green glass vial caged with brilliant copper leaves from her neck.

Rohese smiles.

Mirkk put an antique green-tinted glass bottle in his wool coat.

Rohese raises her hand.

Traiva removes a squat green-sheened jar from in her multi-pocketed carryall.

Dendum put a gnarled wooden branch in his emerald wool cloak.

Missoni nods appreciatively.

Splaying her fingers wide, Rohese extends her left hand toward Missoni, showing off the wedding band on her left ring finger.

Avawren hums quietly to herself.

Avawren removes a silver-lidded round glass jar from in her pale linden basket.

Hadya taps a bronze-framed bone reliquary that she is wearing.

Unclipping a vibrant leaf cluster brooch at his left shoulder, Dendum carefully wraps a dark emerald wool cloak draped in thick animal pelts from his shoulders and slips his wrist from its attached dark mithril bangle.

Mirkk hums a seemingly random tune.

Fiddling with a vibrant leaf cluster brooch, Dendum carefully pulls it free from the fabric of his emerald wool cloak.

Traiva put a squat green-sheened jar in her multi-pocketed carryall.

Missoni says, "Ah, vessels, lovely bracelets, rings..."

Avawren chuckles.

Dendum shows Missoni his leaf cluster brooch.

Traiva just opened a sweeping back-slit cloth-of-silver cloak with a deep velvet trimmed hood.

Meril sniffs at her green glass vial.

Traiva removes a silver samite sack from in her back-slit cloak.

Khobra removes a glass of aged Faendryl rum from in her midnight black cloak.

Traiva just opened a silver samite sack.

Missoni nods appreciatively.

Avawren suggests, "Bug catchers ..."

Khobra takes a drink from her aged Faendryl rum.

Traiva removes a green-flamed arathiel bead from in her silver samite sack.

Dendum fiddles with his leaf cluster brooch and carefully stabs its stickpin into his emerald wool cloak.

Speaking amusedly to Mirkk, Rohese notes, "Grandfather's wine, I see."

Missoni says, "Artistic and useful items, all."

Slipping his wrist into a thorned dark mithril bangle that is attached to the left side of his emerald wool cloak, Dendum draws the fabric over his arm and up across his left shoulder, around his back, and then pulls it taut under his right arm. With care, he pulls the lower edge across his chest to his left shoulder and pins it into place using a vibrant leaf cluster brooch.

Akenna exclaims, "I have bottles!"

Akenna giggles.

Missoni agrees with Akenna.

Traiva put a green-flamed arathiel bead in her silver samite sack.

Missoni flashes a quick grin.

Traiva just closed a silver samite sack.

Missoni says, "So we see, glass as a material is prevalent in our daily lives. We may wear it." She pauses to brush her fingertips across the luminous araglass cap crowning her ear. "We may even drink from it, or use it in our home to let the light in and keep the chill out. Thus, many cultures have developed processes aimed toward making beautiful, coveted works of glass."

Speaking softly to Traiva, Rohese exclaims, "Pretty!"

Traiva put a silver samite sack in her back-slit cloak.

Traiva just closed a sweeping back-slit cloth-of-silver cloak with a deep velvet trimmed hood.

Traiva grins at Rohese.

Phanna's exhaled breath condenses on the air, visible as a puff of white vapor before it drifts away.

Khobra takes a drink from her aged Faendryl rum.
She pauses for a moment to savor the complex flavors.

Missoni glances at an elliptical window.

Rohese gazes thoughtfully at an elliptical window.

Missoni explains, "Faendryl have developed a type of glasswork that utilizes the heat from balefire to manipulate the glass, a process that has become known as baleglazing."

Missoni says, "I would like to share with you the cultural importance of this process and some examples of it, so I will first provide some general background on Faendryl art and the history of glasswork in our culture."

Vaikhen blinks.

Phanna gazes with interest at Missoni.

Rohese turns an inquisitive ear toward Missoni.

Missoni continues, "Then, I will discuss baleglass as an intersection of glasswork and sorcery, as well as the process involved in its creation."

Rohese raises an eyebrow.

Missoni says, "I will conclude with a brief example of my own interpretation of the process, which utilizes found sea glass. Sea glass is a material that, as you might expect, is not in large supply in New Ta'Faendryl."

Speaking interestedly to Mirkk, Rohese whispers aloud, "Baleglass!"

(Missoni takes a small sip of water, clearing her throat lightly.)

Missoni cheerfully says, "Firstly, then, some general background on Faendryl art."

Missoni notes, "I will not be delving into some of the larger movements in painting and sculpture as part of this discussion for the sake of brevity. Rather, I will focus on events and circumstances that lead to the development of baleglass."

Missoni carefully places her spring water on the floor alongside her.

Mirkk raises an eyebrow.

Missoni says, "We can trace the importance of found art in Faendryl culture to the time of our departure from the Elven Empire."

Tabubu shifts her weight.

Rohese inclines her head.

Mirkk whispers something to Rohese.

Mirkk chortles softly at some secret joke.

(Missoni clasps her hands behind her back and takes a few steps toward the right side of the benches, nodding solemnly in Khobra's direction.)

Mirkk turns an inquisitive ear toward Missoni.

Rohese gazes in amusement at Mirkk.

Missoni explains, "Those first years in the caves of Maelshyve were sparse, and that scarcity influences us even today, from the prevalence of bats and insects used in Faendryl cuisine to the practice of self-expression using unusual objects, the repurposed and the reused."

Missoni says, "Archaeologist Eveilir Waldshyn Faendryl writes of the evidence of continuing artistic practice found in caves."

(Khobra swirls her aged Faendryl rum in circles for a moment, keenly listening to Missoni.)

Missoni notes, "The translation from the original Faendryl is mine."

Missoni removes a painted ecru leather volume from on a rose-etched silver music stand.

The smell of acrid ink fills the air as Missoni opens her ecru leather volume.

Missoni reads, "We found discarded tools such as the carved handles of paintbrushes and materials such as ground stone and insects for pigment in the former living quarters. These tools were often stored near survival necessities such as weapons and cookery, suggesting that they were held in similar esteem by their owners."

Missoni continues, "Further, some painted stone tablets from this era have survived in the care of the Basilica that provide yet more insight into our Faendryl ancestors."

Khobra smiles quietly to herself.

Missoni says, "Paper was likely carefully rationed and more prone to changes in the environment." She thumbs the vellum pages in her book thoughtfully. "Heartier mediums like stone were favored for creating art and even for writing important documents at that time, despite their seeming unwieldiness."

Missoni snaps her ecru leather volume shut with a puff of dust.

Missoni put a painted ecru leather volume on a rose-etched silver music stand.

Missoni says, "Artwork using pigment and stone often accounts for the medium by creatively employing the natural occlusions, edges, and other formations of the stone as part of the piece itself."

Rohese thoughtfully taps a finger against her lips.

Missoni states, "In the stone painting Beyond the Veil by an unknown artist, for example, a complex geometric pattern is painted around a fissure formed at the center of the stone tablet. The piece can then be hung to place a person of object in its center."

(Missoni holds her hands together in front of her face, thumbs and forefingers touching so she is peering through a circle at the audience.)

Rohese smiles quietly to herself.

Phanna looks thoughtfully at Missoni.

Missoni says, "Art historians see Beyond the Veil as a comment on extraplanar travel. The precise geometry clearly resembles a planar rift, but the subject at the work's center shifts based on both the display location and the viewer's perspective."

(Missoni slowly pans the audience with her hands, pausing on Dendum to give his a brief wink before dropping them to her sides.)

Rohese surreptitiously glances at Dendum.

Mirkk glances at Dendum.

Missoni adds, "Glass, of course, is naturally occurring like stone, though there are some processes developed for turning sand to glass."

Rohese smiles.

Missoni says, "At its most basic, glass is created when lightning strikes the sand, heating and fusing it."

Missoni thoughtfully says, "If you have visited the Sea of Fire you may be familiar with the phenomenon. It is known there as lightning glass and is used in all manner of adornment."

Missoni nods slightly at Hadya.

Hadya nods once.

Rohese softly exclaims, "Oh!"

Phanna nods in agreement.

(Missoni stretches a foot out in front of her to better display the lightning glass set into her shoes.)

Mirkk blinks.

Mirkk asks, "Folgerite?"

Speaking interestedly to Mirkk, Rohese whispers aloud, "Now we need to visit, I'd like to see that."

Mirkk nods at Rohese.

Missoni says, "Glass was, therefore, in supply in the desert during those early years in the caves, and archaeologists have found glass jewelry and artifacts among works of art created with stone and pigment."

(Khobra continues swirling her aged Faendryl rum in circles while keenly listening to Missoni.)

Speaking quietly to Rohese, Mirkk whispers aloud, "I've heard of it. Several different names. Really interesting."

Rohese nods in agreement at Mirkk.

Avawren raises her vellum teacup in a smooth, elegant gesture and takes a small sip.

Speaking to Rohese, Missoni murmurs, "There are a few safe corners of the desert."

Missoni nods encouragingly.

Rohese lets out a sigh of relief.

Missoni warmly says, "Because they are easier to transport than stone, there are also some examples passed down by families as we migrated from the caves to the New City."

Speaking to Rohese, you whisper aloud, "There's also a lot of snakes."

Missoni says, "And this brings us to my second major point, the intersection of art and sorcery."

Rohese blinks at you.

Missoni agrees with you.

Vaikhen leans forward.

Mirkk starts chortling at you!

Speaking softly to Mirkk, Rohese whispers aloud, "We won't be going there."

Rohese vigorously shakes her head at Mirkk.

Missoni glances down.

(Missoni pauses to take another sip of water, letting her words hang in the air for a moment.)

Mirkk holds up two fingers and slowly pinches them together until they are almost touching.

Kalyrra takes a drink from her well-aged whiskey.

Landrai takes a drink from her ice cold lemonade.

Khobra takes a drink from her aged Faendryl rum.

Missoni curiously asks, "Has anyone here heard sorcery called an 'art'? Perhaps we may see another show of hands?"

Rohese glances around the room.

Phanna nods once.

Phanna raises her hand.

Vaikhen raises his hand.

Traiva raises her hand.

Khobra raises her hand.

Moshari inhales deeply upon her pipe, puckering her lips and sending out three rings of smoke before her briefly.

Missoni casually observes her surroundings.

Raelee nods faintly.

Moshari raises her hand.

Mirkk raises his hand.

Missoni nods approvingly.

Missoni says, "Those who practice sorcery do often deem it an art. Likewise, sorcery is regarded as an art throughout much of Faendryl culture, to the extent that Faendryl often refer to it as *The* Art."

Arenglae takes a drink from her ice cold lemonade.

Meril cocks her head.

Missoni says, "It only follows, then, that the art of sorcery would find its way into the practice of the fine arts--into the development of techniques for sculpture, painting, and performance."

Phanna smiles.

Rohese's expression is thoughtful, but her furrowed brow indicates she's working something out for herself.

Akenna gently brushes her sienna hair away from her eyes and, with a deft twist of her wrist, tucks it back into its bindings.

Missoni says, "One such example is in the process known as baleglazing, which produces a unique type of glass known as baleglass."

Missoni says, "Most forms of glasswork involve glassblowing: reheating the glass, turning it to molten, and then reshaping it by exhaling into a slim metal pipe."

Missoni slowly empties her lungs.

Landrai nods.

Missoni explains, "Baleglazing works on the same principle. The difference is that the sorcerer manipulates the heat source, balefire, magically and therefore has more control over it." She pauses to take a few steps alongside the row of benches, moving toward the back rows. "Using this technique, the sorcerer forms the glass around and even within the fire."

Rohese glances over her shoulder at Missoni.

Missoni excitedly says, "The result is that complicated shapes are far more possible, and different colors of glass may be melted and fused together more easily." She begins talking animatedly with her hands as she continues making her way around the benches. "The extreme heat and pattern of the flame lends a unique, almost liquified swirl to the final product."

Vaikhen turns to face Missoni.

Ordim fidgets.

(Khobra continues swirling her aged Faendryl rum in circles while keenly listening to Missoni.)

Missoni thoughtfully muses, "It is perhaps not coincidental that in the caves of Maelshyve, where water was uncommon, this technique allowed artists to create an ocean-like effect with glass."

Moshari breathes in deeply as she clenches a pipe in her mouth, then exhales slowly, causing some pale amorphous clouds of puffy smoke to float up from her mouth.

Phanna looks thoughtfully at Missoni.

Rohese inclines her head.

Khobra agrees with Missoni.

Speaking softly to Mirkk, Rohese whispers aloud, "How pretty!"

(Missoni rounds the back row of benches and moves toward the front of the room again as she speaks. "I have here an example of my own creation that I presented at Cairnfang Manor's Art Festival in Solhaven.")

Missoni produces an orb of fused sea glass swirled with vert and aquamarine from the depths of her airy robes.

Missoni signals to a rose-etched silver music stand, which hops a bit closer to her.

Mirkk blinks.

Missoni put an orb of fused sea glass swirled with vert and aquamarine on a rose-etched silver music stand.

Rohese gasps.

Avawren laces her fingers around her vellum teacup and hums to herself, appearing lost in thought.

Missoni indicates an orb of fused sea glass swirled with vert and aquamarine as a possible option.

Rohese softly exclaims, "Gorgeous!"

Mirkk nods in agreement at Rohese.

Missoni says, "As you can perhaps see, I melted the glass to mimic the hue and texture of the ocean." She reaches out to trace the swirled pattern with her fingertips. "I was also able to imbed several small crystal fish within the glass, inserting them while the glass was liquid and then allowing the sphere to cool around them."

Tabubu leans forward.

Hadya gazes thoughtfully at an orb of fused sea glass swirled with vert and aquamarine on a rose-etched silver music stand.

Missoni nods gratefully at Rohese.

Phanna smiles at Missoni.

Missoni flushes slightly, some color reaching her cheeks.

Missoni says, "In keeping with Faendryl tradition, I prefer to work with found materials. In this case, I used sea glass collected on the shores and beaches near my residence in Solhaven."

Khobra glances between Missoni and an orb of fused sea glass swirled with vert and aquamarine.

Rohese leans forward and rests her chin in her hand, a thoughtful expression on her face.

Rohese gazes thoughtfully at an orb of fused sea glass swirled with vert and aquamarine on a rose-etched silver music stand.

Missoni clearly concludes, "I would like to end with a note on display, and a small demonstration."

look glass
Bits of melted sea glass swirl together to create the translucent shell of a hollow globe which rests on a simple stand of driftwood. Deep lazuline gradates to pale celadon amidst ripples of misty grey, the textured surface and blended colors mimicking the eddies of a heaving sea. While not apparent at first glance, several silvery fish are suspended at the center of the orb. They glint with iridescent hues when light filters through the colored glass, casting dancing prisms on nearby surfaces.
There appears to be something written on it.

read glass
In the Common language, it reads:
"The Origin of Fishcakes" by Missoni Sabretache Faendryl - Second Place, 5122 Solhaven Grand Art Exhibit

Phanna nods encouragingly.

Missoni explains, "Like many glass pieces, baleglass is best displayed near a light source. Light best showcases the structure and color of the glass. If I were the shade the glass..."

Khobra nods respectfully.

Missoni waves her hand at a small canteen of spring water but nothing seems to happen.

Missoni pours herself a small canteen of spring water.

(Mirkk runs his fingers across Rohese's back, lightly scratching it.)

Missoni carefully places a small canteen of spring water on the floor.

Missoni gazes intently at a small canteen of spring water while appearing to concentrate. Blackness encroaches upon your vision and you notice Missoni's shadow begins to move towards the spring water. The water fades from view as an errant shadow falls into place. Missoni's shadow begins to split into two pieces, one returning to its position near her, and the other isolated where the spring water used to be.

Rohese smiles at Mirkk.

Rohese leans back.

Rohese leans on Mirkk, resting her head against his shoulder.

Missoni removes an orb of fused sea glass swirled with vert and aquamarine from on a rose-etched silver music stand.

(Missoni holds the sphere within the shadow, blocking much of the ambient light from reaching the piece. The glass seems to lose its luster, the colors appearing muted and less vibrant. The sparkling fish at the center disappear in the darkness.)

Phanna gazes with interest at Missoni.

Missoni says, "We can see it takes something away from the effect."

Missoni flicks her hand at an errant shadow and its form begins to unravel...

The errant shadow begins to waver and unravel before your eyes. Tendrils of black essence spiral off and disappear into nothingness as the an errant shadow begins to slowly sink into the ground. The surface begins to boil rapidly like hot oil before the last remaining fiber of the an errant shadow vanishes.

Missoni put an orb of fused sea glass swirled with vert and aquamarine on a rose-etched silver music stand.

Rohese gazes in amazement at Missoni.

Vaikhen gives a short little hum of surprise.

Missoni says, "In contrast, display in a well-lighted room can bring the colors to life and send striking prismatic displays along the walls."

Missoni says, "One tradition that has been documented from our time in Maelshyve is a sort of light show created when baleglass is illuminated with balefire. Historians suspect the practice originated thanks to the lack of light in the depths of the caverns. But, even now, some museums display pieces in darkened rooms lit solely by balefire."

Missoni happily says, "The effect can be quite breathtaking."

Speaking softly to herself, Rohese murmurs, "Oh my."

Phanna nods in agreement.

Rohese presses a hand to her chest, inhaling and exhaling slowly.

Landrai smiles.

Khobra agrees with Missoni.

(Missoni opens her palm to reveal a small sphere of greenish-black flame. She holds the flame behind the sphere, allowing it to illuminate the glass. The sphere immediately takes on the light's lurid cast, the blues and greens dancing like a murky lagoon in the afternoon. Amongst the colors, the silvery fish flash, seeming to almost swim in the flickering light.)

Moshari breathes in deeply as she clenches a pipe in her mouth, then exhales slowly, causing some pale amorphous clouds of puffy smoke to float up from her mouth.

Kalyrra grins.

Phanna smiles.

Missoni concludes, "Thank you all ever so much for listening." She closes her hand, extinguishing the greenish flame and the dancing light within the sphere. "Please let me know if I may answer any questions."

Speaking softly to herself, Rohese murmurs, "Amazing!"

Vaikhen taps a gilded jet clockwork owl's beak, causing it to whir some gears and produce a "hoot!" sound.

Khobra applauds Missoni.

Moshari applauds Missoni.

Vaikhen applauds Missoni.

Kalyrra applauds Missoni.

Rohese beams at Missoni and claps her hands together in delight!

Phanna applauds Missoni.

Missoni blushes a nice shade of dark red.

Traiva applauds.

Akenna applauds Missoni with enthusiasm, seemingly oblivious to her surroundings.

Raelee takes a moment to observe Missoni.

Mirkk smiles at Rohese.

Arenglae applauds Missoni politely.

Missoni curtsies.

Mirkk applauds Missoni.

Tabubu applauds.

Hadya applauds politely.

Speaking to Missoni, Phanna says, "That was remarkable! I adored your entry at the last exhibit, and I am excited to finally learn more of how you made it."

Phanna smiles.

Khobra takes a drink from her aged Faendryl rum.
She emits a deep, contented sigh.

Rohese walks to stand behind a small podium.

Speaking gratefully to Phanna, Missoni exclaims, "Thank you!"

Rohese softly exclaims, "I think, like me, you are all speechless!"

Missoni says, "I am hoping to explore the technique more."

Dendum raises his hand.

Rohese softly asks, "We have any questions?"

Mirkk nods slowly.

Vaikhen raises his hand.

Phanna raises her hand.

Khobra smirks.

Missoni nods at Dendum.

Speaking to Missoni, Dendum inquires, ""Does the Faendryl know there are other ways one can heat sand to make the glass that does not involve summoning potentially deadly fire that spreads with desire to consume?"

Landrai smiles.

Speaking to Missoni, Dendum informs, ""Can introduce you to kiln."

Ordim nervously giggles.

Missoni gazes in amusement at Dendum.

Vaikhen begins chuckling at Dendum!

Mirkk appears to be trying hard not to grin.

Speaking to Dendum, Missoni says, "Yes, I am aware."

Mirkk surreptitiously glances at Dendum.

Arenglae studies Dendum, giving him an intense consideration.

Landrai softly says, "But how boring."

Missoni says, "But one uses what one has."

Dendum asks, "Ahh good so this is....choice that is made?"

Missoni agrees with Landrai.

Speaking to Dendum, Missoni says, "Sorcery infuses all parts of our lives. To those with enough control, it is not perceived as deadly at all."

Missoni adds, "Unless we wish it so."

Khobra adopts an agreeable expression.

Missoni bites her lip.

Khobra takes a drink from her aged Faendryl rum.
She emits a deep, contented sigh.

Khobra smirks at Missoni.

Akenna says, "All fire, if not controlled by a skilled person... can be dangerous. A sorcerer with balefire, I would expect to have a very solid amount of control."

Khobra folds her arms over her chest.

Khobra leans to her left slightly.

Missoni nods firmly at Akenna.

Missoni says, "Just so."

Akenna smiles at Missoni.

Moshari breathes in deeply as she clenches a pipe in her mouth, then exhales slowly, causing some pale amorphous clouds of puffy smoke to float up from her mouth.

Speaking curiously to Missoni, Vaikhen asks, "Does one need to take any precautions when touching or holding baleglass? Or is it safe to handle as soon as it cools?"

Rohese cocks her head at Vaikhen.

Speaking to Vaikhen, Missoni says, "It is perfectly safe to handle when it cools."

Vaikhen nods understandingly.

Akenna raises her hand.

Rohese smiles at Akenna.

Rohese nods at Akenna.

Missoni says, "Just like any other glass, really."

Mirkk ponders.

Phanna takes a drink from her ice cold lemonade.

Missoni asks, "Ah, Phanna, I think, and then Akenna?"

Speaking softly to Phanna, Rohese says, "I believe you had a question too."

Rohese nods in agreement at Missoni.

Phanna nods in agreement.

Phanna smiles.

Missoni cocks her head at Phanna.

Phanna asks, "I know that sorcery, or rather, the Art, at its core emphasizes the comination of both elemental and spiritual spheres. Does drawing more upon one or the other of those two spheres affect how it is used in baleglazing?"

Akenna inquires, "Does the balefire affect the physical compound of the glass in any other way? While it is beautiful, I suppose I'd like to know on a component level?"

Akenna's cheeks flush with a soft pale rose shade, darkening her freckles even more.

You raise your hand.

Akenna bashfully apologizes, "Sorry."

Phanna smiles at Akenna.

Speaking to Akenna, Phanna says, "It's so fascinating. I think we all have lots of questions."

Speaking reassuringly to Akenna, Rohese says, "Perfectly fine, so much interest in today's topic."

Vaikhen quietly jokes, "Their questions were far more intellectual than mine."

Vaikhen grins sheepishly.

Rohese giggles softly at Vaikhen.

Speaking to Phanna, Missoni says, "Drawing too heavily on the elemental side would impact the color of the flame, perhaps producing a less vibrant green, which might affect display."

Speaking softly to Vaikhen, Rohese assures, "All questions are valid and of interest!"

Phanna nods slowly at Missoni.

Vaikhen flushes slightly, some color reaching his cheeks.

Missoni says, "But melting the glass would function similarly as with a more elemental form of fire."

Phanna nods understandingly.

Speaking to Akenna, Missoni says, "It does make the glass more liquid than the traditional method, which requires the compound to be a bit more stable. I have seen glassworkers hold the glass aloft on a sort of bowl of fire so as not so spill the molten liquid."

Moshari breathes in deeply as she clenches a pipe in her mouth, then exhales slowly, causing some pale amorphous clouds of puffy smoke to float up from her mouth.

Rohese nods slowly at Missoni.

Akenna nods slowly.

Speaking softly to Missoni, Rohese exclaims, "That leads to my question but I believe Arianiss had one first!"

Rohese nods encouragingly to you.

You ask, "What happens if you baleglaze without control?"

Missoni says, "But, that is what allows for more mixing of colors."

Mirkk smiles.

Vaikhen glances at you.

Vaikhen's face turns slightly pale.

Speaking amusedly to you, Rohese says, "We are of a similar mind, I see."

Speaking to you, Missoni says, "Well, I expect one could start quite a conflagration."

Missoni frets.

Rohese bites her lip.

Khobra cringes.

You ask, "..but I mean.. what type of work will it produce?"

Mirkk frowns.

You ask, "Or just destroys it?"

Missoni says, "There have been incidents of sorcerers, ah, splashing themselves with glass, which is quite an unpleasant effect."

Mirkk blinks.

Hadya quietly says, "I would imagine something is getting destroyed... person or glass."

A pained expression crosses Rohese's face as she grimaces at Missoni.

Mirkk asks, "Splashing?"

Missoni says, "But the end result can also be rather pretty, unformed as it it is."

Speaking incredulously to Missoni, Mirkk asks, "LIke, molten glass?"

Khobra agrees with Hadya.

Missoni nods at Mirkk.

Phanna says, "That sounds quite painful."

Mirkk shudders.

Meril quietly says, "Well, and I would guess that drawing too much on spiritual power is to submit to the will of the flame, rather than command it as sorcerers are wont to. It would allow the power behind the flame to shape it to its will, rather than the sorcerer's."

Rohese agrees with Phanna.

Vaikhen stares into space, appearing to ponder multiple possibilities and potential nuances.

Phanna takes a drink from her ice cold lemonade.

Speaking softly to Meril, Rohese says, "I imagine that would lead to some rather interesting pieces."

Moshari breathes in deeply as she clenches a pipe in her mouth, then exhales slowly, causing some pale amorphous clouds of puffy smoke to float up from her mouth.

Phanna nods in agreement.

Speaking to Meril, Missoni says, "Fire spirits can be rather tempermental."

A pained expression crosses Missoni's face.

Meril nods slowly.

Missoni muses, "If anyone recalls the Fier'dracus."

Missoni says, "But that is a bit outside of glass work."

Akenna says, "I've always found the element itself to be eager to please and desirous of the approval of it Mistress."

Akenna looks thoughtful for a moment, then shrugs.

Rohese smiles at Akenna.

Speaking to Akenna, Missoni says, "Ah, well you have mastered it."

Speaking haltingly to Akenna, Vaikhen says, "That-- well, um. That might just ... might just be you."

Akenna's cheeks flush with a soft pale rose shade, darkening her freckles even more.

Vaikhen grins sheepishly.

Speaking diplomatically to Missoni, Rohese inquires, "Have you found yourself at the mercy of such a spirit and suffered injury at all?"

Phanna laughs softly, trying to hide her amusement.

Speaking to you, Missoni says, "There are glassworkers who purposely splash their pieces, though, to answer a bit more."

Rohese giggles softly at Vaikhen.

Speaking to Vaikhen, Akenna says, "The worst element to work with in my opinion is lightning... it is difficult to direct and wants to do what it wants."

Speaking to Rohese, Missoni exclaims, "Fortunately not!"

Rohese lets out a sigh of relief for Missoni.

Vaikhen ponders.

Speaking softly to Missoni, Rohese says, "Long may it continue."

Missoni amusedly says, "I have merely gotten quite sweaty."

Mirkk quietly says, "But fire consumes."

Rohese laughs softly, trying to hide her amusement.

Missoni agrees with Rohese.

Arenglae nods faintly at Akenna.

Speaking to Missoni, Phanna exclaims, "The horror!"

Phanna laughs softly, trying to hide her amusement.

Vaikhen nods understandingly at Akenna.

Phanna winks at Missoni.

Missoni grins at Phanna.

Missoni fans herself.

Rohese softly asks, "Do we have anymore questions?"

Rohese glances around the room.

Rohese smiles.

Rohese nods once.

Missoni casually observes her surroundings.

Phanna says, "This has been very enlightening. Thank you for sharing the art of baleglazing."

Phanna smiles at Missoni.

Rohese appreciatively concludes, "Then I am sure you will all join me in thanking our wonderful speaker for sharing her fascinating insights into baleglass."

Missoni nods gratefully.

Dendum applauds politely.

Vaikhen turns to Missoni and cheers!

Meril applauds Missoni.

Phanna applauds.

Rohese applauds Missoni with enthusiasm, seemingly oblivious to her surroundings.

Vaikhen whistles at Missoni!

Tabubu applauds.

Speaking to Missoni, Akenna exclaims, "It was so interesting!"

Landrai applauds.

Ordim applauds.

Missoni happily says, "Thank you for allowing me to share."

Kalyrra applauds Missoni.

Akenna flashes a wide grin.

Avawren applauds Missoni.

Kalyrra grins.

Landrai softly says, "Well done, such an interesting idea."

Akenna applauds Missoni.

Speaking softly to Missoni, Rohese exclaims, "Truly fascinating, thank you!"

Arenglae applauds politely.

Missoni bows.

Hadya quietly says, "It was an interesting topic, yes."

Mirkk adopts an agreeable expression.

Dendum says, "Hrmm."

Rohese gratefully exclaims, "Thank you all so much for coming and I hope to see you all again next month!"
