Kasendra's Possessions - A NotB Vignette

Based on the additional findings of Inquisitor Vaelynsa, the Sapphire Guard and the Inquisitors revisited the possessions of Lady Kasendra Malwind, comparing everything in meticulous detail against the inventory.

Despite the supposition by some that her gown was inexplicably missing, it was found where expected. It was determined that Squire Gasen had perhaps bragged to others that he had access to the possessions, when he truly did not, and thus, when tasked with retrieving the gown by investigating adventurers, he had lied about it being missing so as not to admit he would never have been allowed near such valuable evidence.

More interesting, however, were the two candy tins and one small box found in her possession. Initially, these were quickly reviewed, catalogued, and deemed innocuous. The swan-embossed metal tins held several candies known to be favorites of Lady Malwind and sent to her by her husband. The small modwir box was erroneously believed to hold jewelry or some other small trinket, but the re-evaluation found trace evidence of food.

The two tins both held candies -- chocolate creams, chocolate-covered tea caramels, several Vornavian sweets, etc. All of which tested negative for any additives. The small box's crumbs appeared to be from a crumbly, sweet, cracker-like crust with bits of a creamy substance stuck to it. It too appeared negative for paralytics, but given the small amount left and the age, this was deemed inconclusive.

After discussion, it was discovered one particular caramel was not of Vornavian origin. Indeed, it was brought by the Nalfein delegation and would not have made it into the tin under normal circumstances. A servant in the delegation stated that Mistress Leisette had granted permission for her to share the coveted recipe with the Mirror's cooking staff, as the caramels were quite popular at court.

Interviews with the staff, however, yielded no one meeting the servant's description. The Guard and Inquisitors have descriptions of the burghal gnome recipient of the recipe.

While they are being silent on the specifics, they stated unequivocally that this does not bring the Nalfein delegation back under suspicion. Of course, others may be less convinced.

The Inquisitors are preparing information to send with Inquisitor Vaelynsa for her upcoming trip, and they have sent notices of these findings, and of the Library Aies findings, to the Mirror, the Council, and to all interested parties with a need to know. In addition, the Peacock Grapevine has been busy spreading this information and keeping the already on-edge residents of Ta'Illistim apprised.
