TOWN COUNCIL ADMITS KNOWLEDGE OF SECRET SOCIETY · on 7/12/2009 10:13:01 AM 1293

During the founding of Wehnimers Landing and for several years thereafter, whispers of a secret society permeated the taverns and parlors. Its purpose was unknown, but its presence was never doubted, as it gained prominence and riches, culminating in the building of several large manors and houses throughout Wehnimers Landing and scattered across the continent. Each House was given a code name and a listing of false officers. No one knows who built them or why, and no one has ever admitted to being inside one. The Houses have been guarded by innocuous-seeming gatekeepers, and no amount of force could ever get them to stand aside and allow entry. In time, the whispers died down and the society sank back into the unknown depths from which it had arisen.

Several decades ago, the society came briefly to light again, and amidst a scandal only hinted about in public records, it disappeared again. Oddly enough, however, the Houses remained with the doorkeepers, and as one grew too old to guard, another took his or her place. This remained the status quo for several more years until a few of these Houses were sold to and remodeled by some intrepid adventurers. Those on the Council who knew a hint of a whisper of the rumors of the society held their breath, but nothing untoward happened to the adventurers, and so they relaxed.

Early in the evening of 11 Koaratos 5109, in a series of disruptive events, townspeople and adventurers alike were drawn outside the gates of Wehnimers Landing for several minutes. It was not until hours later that a town runner reported all the doorkeepers missing. The Council immediately dispatched a crew to the nearest House and discovered a seemingly impenetrable magical barrier protecting its door. Subsequent investigations show that all Houses in Wehnimers Landing are thus affected, and reports from other towns indicate identical circumstances. What this means is not known at this time, but we advise all citizens and visitors to be on the alert.
