Summary

• [[::Brotherhood of Rooks|Rooks]] gather outside the destroyed town barracks, where a little girl orphan affiliated with them places a [[::dwarf|dwarven]] doll in the rubble to honor Khylon. One Rook removes his mask, being no one anybody knows, and says that they have different methods and views, but mourn the loss of all people of [[::Wehnimer's Landing|Wehnimer's]]. Some Rooks didn't care for Khylon while others held him in regard despite his opposition, but they'll help end the conflicts.

• They leave and civilian townspeople gather in front of the barracks now, placing candles, flowers, sketches, and other trinkets as they mourn Khylon.

• Thadston approaches the barracks and says we could have prevented this, he could have prevented this, and he apologizes and says he needs our help. He turned to drink to quiet the Bleakwalker inside him, which brings him memories of his wife Saraphene, and he thought it was all he had left--but he still has Wehnimer's. At least, some of us; others he doesn't care about. He asks everyone to think on how to rid him of the Bleakwalker. Thadston says he deserved to be in that rubble instead of Khylon and won't let the Landing turn to unbridled chaos.

• Captain Stormyrain says Thadston's not the beginning in the end and it's never a lone wolf operation when it's successful. Thadston says she is correct and we'll do this together, and not to make him repeat that. Mayor Leafiara welcomes him back; he says he's not back, but will be with our help; she says he's taken the most important step.

• Sir Goldstr suggests that Thadston listen to Casiphia; Thadston says she's avoided him for days and he doesn't blame her. Lylia says she may be key to ridding Thadston of the Bleakwalker and Thadston says tell her to find him if we see her first; Captain Shinann, Lylia, and Stormy agree. Lylia asks Thadston if he invited the Bleakwalker's attention; he nods, saying he needed her to live.

• Thadston takes out a corked bottle. The azure light shimmers along his neck, but he sighs and places the corked bottle near the barracks, then says to find a way and leaves.

• Afterward, the gathered adventures contemplate how to help Thadston, the Knave's strengths and weaknesses, the identity of Rone and Mother, Casi's demeanor, and more.

In the Wake of Destruction

[Town Square Central]

This is the heart of the main square of Wehnimer's Landing. The impromptu shops of the bazaar are clustered around this central gathering place, where townsfolk, travellers, and adventurers meet to talk, conspire or raise expeditions to the far-flung reaches of Elanith. At the north end, an old well, with moss-covered stones and a craggy roof, is shaded from the moonlight by a strong, robust tree. The oak is tall and straight, and it is apparent that the roots run deep. You also see the Uskeye disk, a crystalline flask containing a light blue potion, an obstreperous luck spirit that is flying around, the Aiss disk, an ember-eyed fire wyrdling, a ragged earred wolf, a sleek burnt caramel kodkod that is sitting, a mistwood serving cart with some stuff on it, some stone benches with some stuff on it and an herbal remedy donation bin.

Speaking surprisedly to Viva, Pukk says, "Of course not."

Pukk says, "I don't know. She hugs me a lot for something who tolerates me."

Speaking to Pukk, Viva asks, "Do your pockets feel lighter after?"

Speaking to Viva, Pukk says, "Humans have trouble understanding such things."

Speaking to Hapenlok, Pukk exclaims, "It's a trap!"

Speaking to Leafiara, Hapenlok says, "Well, if I could ensure it wouldn't cause more riots, I'd say name me as a Marshal."

Speaking to Leafiara, Pukk exclaims, "Name him as marshal!"

Speaking to Leafiara, Pukk exclaims, "Please!"

Leafiara says, "I really am curious what Renpaw will say now. He was so insistent that we absolutely needed a marshal immediately and now we're down one. Again."

Hapenlok says, "I mean, you don't exactly need to be a military genius to command here."

Viva says, "Just keep an eye on the skies and lock on the dock."

Speaking to Hapenlok, Pukk exclaims, "Then you are perfect!"

Hapenlok says, "Honestly, when I consider it, what you need is someone who can deal with all sides in this present conflict the same."

Hapenlok says, "Say a lot of things, but if not me, you'd probably need someone like me."

Speaking to Pukk, Asben says, "Chand wouldn't let me change her name."

Speaking to Asben, Pukk says, "You never did pay me my 1k."

Asben just handed Pukk some coins.

Speaking to Asben, Pukk says, "Okay, now try."

Speaking to Viva, Pukk says, "You would know."

Speaking to Leafiara, Hapenlok says, "And also, I have a nasty habit of not staying dead long. So, you know...the targeted assassination attempts...."

Speaking to Roelon, Viva says, "I hear this town is in desperate need of a new Marshal."

Roelon deeply asks, "Ah thought we hae ah temporary one?"

Speaking to Leafiara, Hapenlok says, "Honestly, I'd just love to see the expression on Renpaw's ...and everyone else's faces if you bring my name up."

Speaking to Hapenlok, Leafiara says, "Yeah, I can't fault ya."

Speaking to Roelon, Viva says, "Seems there is a renewed need of sorts."

Sareyna becomes solid again.

Speaking to Leafiara, Hapenlok says, "I mean, I don't exactly want the job, but it IS something that we have a need for, these days."

Pukk pokes Sareyna in the ribs.

Pukk says, "Yep, solid."

Speaking seriously to Pukk, Ycelacie says, "I believe you were apologizing to me."

Speaking to Viva, Leafiara says, "Yeah, Renpaw's pretty insistent all of a sudden."

Ycelacie annoyedly says, "For saying I have a big head."

Speaking to Leafiara, Hapenlok says, "We rebuild as soon as possible. Or at least start."

Hapenlok says, "Don't forget resurrecting the Lich King. He wasn't really much of a threat to Tamzyrr, as it turned out, but it was very much noted upon in Vornavis the chaos he caused when he was around the first time."

Leafiara says, "Thadston made all the right points at his hearing, and at the end of the day, the Judge didn't remove him for his actions... it was just the concern that they weren't *his* own actions."

Speaking to Cryheart, Pukk exclaims, "Hap's going to be our new interim marshal!"

Hapenlok says, "If not me, then Captain Stormyrain."

Speaking to Hapenlok, Pukk exclaims, "I know. Either way, this will be interesting!"

Leafiara says, "The Holding and the Irregulars' barracks are some of the best we've got left now."

Cryheart says, "It would nae be the first time some faction tried to take over the Holding."

Speaking softly to Leafiara, Chandrellia says, "Can we use Pukk for bait for the Knave he deserves it."

Zeed heartily asks, "Who wants a tour of the constable's office? Downstairs?"

Speaking to Cryheart, Hapenlok says, "Oh, by the way, I was just telling the Lady Mayor that we should rebuild our barracks as soon as feasibly possible."

Speaking concernedly to Leafiara, Keiiko says, "No wonder he has been so upset."

Speaking to Guarrin, Leafiara says, "Thankfullly, I'm pretty sure most of the militia was deployed at the time and on the battlefield..."

Leafiara says, "Small comfort, I suppose."

Speaking to Cryheart, Hapenlok says, "So, start thinking of people you know who can make explosion proof barracks."

Speaking curiously to Leafiara, Keiiko says, "May I ask what caused it?... We only just came back to town, unfortunately."

Speaking to Leafiara, Guarrin says, "That's something. They still took losses in the field though."

Speaking softly to Leafiara, Chandrellia asks, "Will there be a memorial for him?"

Speaking to Asben, Pukk says, "Remember. Don't give her any ale and don't feed her after midnight."

Speaking regretfully to Keiiko, Leafiara says, "Yeah, it was an ambush of exploding prisms."

Asben whispers something to Chandrellia.

Guarrin says, "Excuse me a moment."

Speaking to Chandrellia, Leafiara says, "Possibly. I'm sure Dunigan's organizing something."

Chandrellia softly says, "Good."

Speaking sadly to Leafiara, Keiiko says, "Mayor, I am so sorry that we were not here to assist."

Speaking to Chandrellia, Leafiara says, "The Guard Captain, and his old friend."

Cryheart says, "Perhaps an architect from the Imperial strongholds."

Speaking to Asben, Pukk says, "I explained that you wished to rename her to Thunderbuns. I think she likes the name."

Chandrellia softly says, "He deserves it."

Speaking to Leafiara, Hapenlok says, "Make sure that mug I gave you makes it to his place of repose."

Asben whispers something to Chandrellia.

Speaking quietly to Keiiko, Leafiara says, "No, it's alright... no one could have seen that coming."

Pukk offers Asben a coil of thick rope.

Asben accepts Pukk's thick rope.

Chandrellia softly says, "I hate you."

Chandrellia nods at Asben.

Pukk says, "You will need this for Thunderbuns."

Speaking to Chandrellia, Asben says, "You do not."

Speaking softly to Pukk, Chandrellia says, "Why I carry my own."

Speaking to Pukk, Asben says, "That's not her name."

Chandrellia removes a length of rope from in her ivory linen backpack.

Speaking to Asben, Pukk asks, "Oh, you are changing it again?"

Speaking to Leafiara, Hapenlok says, "And not at this very moment, but I'm going to pledge at least ten million coins when we're ready to start rebuilding."

Speaking softly to Nordred, Missandai exclaims, "Thank you!"

Leafiara says, "Can't believe we survived half a year of Raznel's attacks with no buildings destroyed, only for the Knave to pull it off. I realize the blight was more damaging in the long run than just the barracks explosion, but..."

Nordred says, "Course."

Speaking doubtfully to Asben, Pukk says, "Okay, but I think that name fit her the most."

Speaking to Leafiara, Hapenlok says, "Captains are going to have to figure out what they want, but I'd like to hire mages to try and ward it."

Speaking softly to Thornly, Chandrellia says, "Tell him I miss him."

Speaking to Chandrellia, Thornly says, "I shall do."

Speaking to Leafiara, Hapenlok says, "And this time, they'd better close and lock the gates more often."

Speaking to Hapenlok, Leafiara says, "Agreed, we'll need to build them--well, better than before."

Speaking softly to Asben, Chandrellia says, "You just earned yourself finding a new healer."

Speaking to Hapenlok, Leafiara says, "Yeah, that too."

Talking in the Rain

The sky begins to fill with huge clouds, dark and grey on the bottom, pale and white atop, their puffy crowns ascending toward the heavens.

Speaking warmly to a green-eyed grey and white kitten, Keiiko asks, "Back for more then?"

Asben says, "I didn't even tell Pukk your new name."

Chandrellia softly says, "That is not my name in any means."

Shinann just arrived.

Speaking quietly to Pukk, Leafiara says, "You're up."

Speaking to Chandrellia, Asben says, "I bought you fair and square."

Shinann nods in greeting.

Shinann just went northeast.

Speaking to Cryheart, Pukk asks, "Ready slow poke?"

Leafiara tiredly greets, "Captain."

Leafiara says, "Oh."

Chandrellia softly says, "You didn't buy anything."

Pukk recites:

"Everybody join Cryheart!"

Leafiara says, "Already ran off..."

Speaking to Chandrellia, Asben says, "I gave Pukk the money."

Leafiara says, "Can't blame her."

Cryheart says, "Of course I am ready."

Chandrellia softly says, "You think I'm that cheap? Go to Helga's and get a bar wench."

Speaking to Leafiara, Hapenlok says, "It's a ingrown habit, when she sees me, apparently."

Uskeye says, "Not again..."

Pukk detaches a vaalin lockpick from a chain-link keyring.

Pukk settles into the difficult task of picking the lock on a rotting thanot chest. Then...CLICK! It opens!

With a barely audible puff, a thick cloud of greyish-green spores billows forth from a rotting thanot chest and quickly spreads through the area!

Pukk gets a lungful of the caustic gas!

A thick cloud of greyish-green spores settles in the air above you.

A voice from the crowd echoes, "Endangering public safety! Endangering public safety! Someone call for the night watchman!"

Pukk says, "Ack."

Speaking to Leafiara, Hapenlok says, "And if Amos, offers to underw-"

Leafiara says, "If we're lucky, the Knave used up basically everything he had last night."

Pukk says, "I'm in so much trouble now."

[as people get wrecked by the spore trap]

Adelynn mutters, "Amateur."

Leafiara says, "But we're rarely lucky."

The night watchman rushes in, followed closely by his posse!

With great ease, the night watchman grabs Pukk and shackles her wrists.

"There you are! We don't tolerate your crimes in Wehnimer's Landing, no we don't! Come along now!" says the night watchman. With a keen eye, the night watchman glances over Pukk quickly. He says, "We'll not have you dying before sentence is carried out. Let's get you healed up, though there will of course be a slight charge for it." With that, a demure looking city official, evidently an empath, comes forward and heals all Pukk's maladies.

The night watchman then drags her off.

Uskeye says, "Hmm."

Leafiara says, "Welp."

Cryheart says, "Well...there goes Pukk."

Chandrellia softly says, "Uumm."

Shinann asks, "Everyone all right?"

Hapenlok asks, "Can someone cast, breeze? please?"

Speaking to Cryheart, Leafiara suggests, "Maybe move east."

Speaking softly to Leafiara, Chandrellia asks, "Want me to announce in his behalf?"

Uskeye says, "Well this is fun."

Yavs raspily says, "What in the world happened."

Leafiara absently says, "Pukk accidentally set off a trap."

Bernadette softly says, "Nice nite fer a toastin."

Nordred says, "So that's who we kill."

Barracks Gathering

Some dark hooded figures can be seen emerging from the shadows near the devastated ruins of the barracks.

Cryheart says, "Moving."

The east-west road continues, closed in on the south by the militia barracks and on the north by the twelve-foot-high wall of the city itself. The occasional thud of leather boots in unison upon cobbled pavement and the clipped shouts of barked orders reverberate off the modwir walls along this part of the road. The scents of leather, weapon oil and hearty cooking fill the night air. You also see a grey-beaked dark hooded figure, a grey-beaked dark hooded figure, a grey-beaked dark hooded figure, a grey-beaked dark hooded figure, a grey-beaked dark hooded figure, a grey-beaked dark hooded figure and the devastated remnants of the barracks.

The hooded figures stand in a near line, each beak of their masks facing the barracks.

Speaking to a grey-beaked dark hooded figure, Leafiara says, "...yeah. It's a real mess."

Speaking to a grey-beaked dark hooded figure, Hapenlok says, "Even Rysus never was able to do this."

Some burly dwarven town guards march through the area, their grizzly beards each braided with ivory beads and their alert gaze staring out from beneath bushy eyebrows. One of them taps the handle of his axe against his palm as they continue their patrol.

Goldstr says, "We needs rebuild here."

Kiwoeachi exclaims, "Yay dwarven guards!" [ambient]

Guarrin whispers something to Cryheart.

Speaking to Lylia, Iskandr says, "Luckily I was too wounded to really disturb anything except perhaps with snores."

Leafiara says, "Raznel herself didn't manage to destroy the barracks, never mind Rysus."

Leafiara says, "Not to compare the blight and this, but..."

Leafiara distantly says, "...oh, never mind."

Speaking to Iskandr, Lylia says, "It is of no concern; it is a comfortable space."

One of the hooded figures turns and a young girl appears behind it, her cheeks dirtied with grime and smattered with freckles. She holds a small dwarven stuffed toy to her chest.

Speaking to Lylia, Iskandr says, "I will try not to make it a habit, but thank you for the hospitality."

Goldstr says, "Rooks still usin childs."

Leafiara asks, "That's a good one. How'd you come by that?"

Speaking to Stormyrain, Hapenlok says, "I'll see to it that it gets rebuilt, even if the treasury doesn't. I owe you both that much."

Hapenlok says, "Despite the treasury, I should say."

Stormyrain evenly says, "I have no doubt it will be rebuilt. But thank you."

The hooded figure touches the little girl's head and motions for her to step forward. The little girl walks slowly to the barracks ruins and places the dwarven doll on the ground and steps back, disappearing into the group of Rooks.

Speaking to Hapenlok, Thornly says, "I'm sure many of us would pitch in whatever is necessary."

Goldstr asks, "Rooks a Honorin Khylon?"

Leafiara says, "Looks like it."

A flower girl arrives, whistling a merry tune.

Leafiara says, "Like I said... I'm sure some of them were in that explosion too."

Lylia whispers something to Xorus.

Speaking to a pretty flower girl, Iskandr says, "Bit of a moment here, flower girl."

One of the hooded figures removes his mask, much to the buzz of some of the figures around him. He is no one special. A common face, a forgettable face. Perhaps you've seen him at the docks, or passing by in a shop, just another face.

Leafiara asks, "...playtime's over. That's what you're saying, isn't it?"

Cryheart says, "Perhaps a moment of silence for Khylon."

Speaking to Leafiara, Goldstr exclaims, "If I may suggest Ye might have a chat wid Sir Andrews bout dis dire situation, see if he kin come to terms wid hisself an GET to work!"

The unmasked Rook says, "We have different methods, and different views, but we mourn the loss of all and any people of Wehnimer's."

Gryzzlbok asks, "Where did Khylon go?"

Cryheart says, "He died here."

Speaking to Gryzzlbok, Leafiara says, "...past the Ebon Gate."

Speaking softly to Gryzzlbok, Chandrellia says, "Khylon is dead."

Shinann says, "Thank you."

Shinann nods to the dark hooded figure.

Kiwoeachi says, "It was those cowards dressed as militia I presume."

The unmasked Rook goes on to say, "Some of us cared little to nothing for the dwarf. Others held him in regard, despite being opposed. We did not do this. But we will help end it."

Speaking somberly to a grey-beaked dark hooded figure, Leafiara agrees, "Yeah, I get it. You all stuck up for Pylasar too... warts and all, ugly history and all... we're still us. The Landing."

Speaking to a grey-beaked dark hooded figure, Leafiara says, "We'll end all of 'em. Every last one of the Knave's schemes, and the man himself."

Leafiara says, "...no doubt."

Myharl deeply exclaims, "Always for the Landing! Our city!"

Goldstr says, "Yer words sound good buts yer ways always be wrong."

Chandrellia yells, "Embrace the chaos!"

Lylia snorts a derisive laugh, sneering in mockery.

Honoring Khylon

Some townspeople begin to arrive, from shops, from alleys, from their homes and converge on the street before the barracks ruins.

Sareyna says, "I embraced chaos once ..it burned."

The hooded figures begin to disperse, stepping back into the shadows of the city.

Speaking to some gathered townspeople, Leafiara says, "...good eve."

Kiwoeachi says, "Least nobody died randomly today."

Speaking to Kiwoeachi, Umbazi says, "...yet."

Speaking to Kiwoeachi, Iskandr says, "Still a bit of time..."

Speaking to Kiwoeachi, Thornly says, "Knock on some wood."

Gryzzlbok says, "Speaking of dying randomly."

Kiwoeachi asks, "Wow everyone really thinks people will die?"

Speaking to Kiwoeachi, Goldstr exclaims, "Ye hads to say dat!"

Lylia says, "People always die. It is a matter of whether they do so on their own terms or for some foolish cause, or possibly at the behest of an idiot."

Kiwoeachi says, "I mean nobody randomly attacked the figures today."

Lylia adds, "Or being used as shields for 'nests' of Rooks, or being unsuspecting guards hanged from the battlements."

Umbazi says, "I'd feel better if the townspeople would go to their homes. They're rather vulnerable."

Lylia mildly says, "True enough."

Speaking to Lylia, Iskandr says, "To be fair, sometimes one's own terms are also idiotic."

The voice of Cruxophyte casually remarks, "Death is a part of life."

Speaking slowly to Kiwoeachi, Stormyrain states, "We have not finished recovering all the bodies from the rubble. So if you would please be less---dismissive that would be appreciated."

Speaking to Iskandr, Lylia says, "All too true."

Some of the townspeople begin to make their way before the remnants, placing candles or other small trinkets. A charm of a loved one. One woman places a dried flower wrapped in twine on the ground near some rubble. Two young children place small sketches next to some bloodstained bricks and weep for their father, lost somewhere in the conflict. A young bride is embraced by her mother as she weeps, her hands cupping the curve of her belly. Thadston's Lament

From out of the crowd a man emerges. His eyes are as grey as cold metal, they are glassy and red-rimmed and tired. His face remains wildly scruffy, with his golden-brown beard unkempt and speckled with white. Some in the crowd take note of him and step aside as Thadston walks towards the barracks.

Leafiara says, "...ya would have been great, Khylon. You were well on your way too."

(OOC) Myharl's player whispers to the group, "Plot Twist: Helga is the Knave. (Epic "bwah" sound)."

Speaking quietly to Thadston, Lylia says, "I understand. You did what you must."

(OOC) Umbazi's player whispers to the group, "Bigger plot twist--Sleepy is the mastermind behind Helga the Knave."

Thadston leaves the cork in his bottle and holds it in his hand for a moment. He closes his eyes for a long minute, and a thin line of azure briefly shimmers along his neck. He sighs and he places the corked bottle on the ground next to the barracks, leaving it behind.

(OOC) Myharl's player whispers to the group, "Tomorrow on... As the Landing Turns..."

Thadston turns around.

Thadston says, "Find a way."

Thadston nods.
