The first and second Captain encounters have a 25% chance for a codex and the third encounter is a 50% chance. You’ll will earn one on average for killing the Captain (in the third encounter).

Bug the whole gem. We can back into the codex from it since it’ll have the property and it’s more convenient than just giving the property name.>>

The present list of Codex properties are all Common rarity. The rarity matters for things like reroll cost. They probably should be separate from the normal list of Gemstone properties, or have some indicator that they are restricted to codex application.
