Greth shifts slightly, looking around the room, then clears his throat.
Speaking to Greth, Xilona exclaims, "Forget the tea, Greth. Today calls for whiskey!"
Rohese giggles softly at Xilona.
Greth says, "Ah've been hearin' from a few new faces 'round here that they'd like ta know a bit more 'bout the Isle, an' our town."
Greth says, "Since we got a fair few here, Ah thought maybe this might be a good time."
Greth says, "So feel free ta pull up a seat, an' if ye'll bear with me a bit, ah'll try an' hit the high points."
Greth says, "First off, fer those who don't know... Ah'm Greth, an' this here's mah bar.  Yer always welcome in here, an' ah only ask that all foolishness stay outside."
Speaking amusedly to Greth, Meliyara asks, "But does drinking not lead to foolishness?"
Speaking dryly to Meliyara, Greth says, "Only once."
Tabubu tilts her head in Meliyara's general direction, the folds of her hood obscuring her expression from view.
Speaking to Meliyara, Traiva says, "Only those who do no know how to hold their drink."
Greth winks at Meliyara.
Meliyara grins impishly at Greth.
Greth says, "Now then... this town here's called Mist Harbor, on account of all the mist... an' the harbor."
Jenina says, "Sensible."
Greth says, "The town, an' actually the whole Isle, is owned lock, stock'n barrel by the Leiffen family."
Greth says, "Been in their family fer generations."
Greth says, "The only living member of that family is one Socius Leiffen... who's a bit of a character."
Grelana quietly says, "Ah."
Sreka says, "He's a killer."
Talinvor takes a slow, deep breath then pinches the bridge of his nose.
Traiva grins wryly.
Meliyara gazes with a bemused expression at Greth.
Xilona raises an eyebrow in Sreka's direction.
Talinvor annoyedly says, "I am so *tired* of that name."
Grelana smiles at Traiva.
Speaking to Sreka, Greth allows, "Aye, that he is, an' no mistake."
Faerinn glances at a small plaque mounted over the bar.
Greth nods at Faerinn.
(Talinvor rubs his temple in irritation.)
Speaking to Kothos, Yardie asks, "Is he actually....unnerved?"
Greth says, "Socius is... deadly, an' that's puttin' it mildly."
Rohese studies a small plaque mounted over the bar with a critical eye.
Xilona appears to be trying hard not to grin.
Rohese lowers her gaze.
Akenna takes a drink from her minty green tea.
Greth says, "He's got a bit of a problem with his temper, an' he struggles to find a way to fit in more often than not."
Greth says, "That plaque there is... well, that's one of his daggers on it."
Speaking to Greth, Xilona says, "However, he also does his best to protect this  Isle and it's inhabitants."
Jenina squints at a small plaque mounted over the bar.
Speaking to Xilona, Greth says, "Aye, that he does.  Or did."
Speaking curiously to Greth, Meliyara asks, "How did one of his daggers come to be on a plaque in your establishment?"
Speaking to Meliyara, Greth says, "Because he took some questionable advice an' agreed to stop huntin... killin'.... whatever ye would call it."
Meliyara nods slowly to Greth.
Yukito squints at Greth.
Speaking to Greth, Yardie asks, "And so the dagger is his way of renouncing his kills?"
Speaking gently to Greth, Traiva asks, "Is it not good advice for now, though?"
Greth says, "Socius claims that he's done.  He hung up his dagger, though... it's a bit of a symbol, really.  Those daggers respond to his call, an' will return to him if he wishes it."
Speaking quietly to Traiva, Greth says, "Ah honestly don't know.  That's fer smarter heads than mine."
Traiva calmly flutters her wings at the Greth in time to an unheard rhythm.
Speaking to Greth, Sothog says, "He can put down his weapons, but if the anger remains... hard to say where that will lead to."
Speaking coyly to Greth, Traiva asks, "Maybe we should consult Zofiya then, no?"
Greth says, "Those who have seen the man fight tend to say he's the deadliest they've seen.  Ah don't disbelieve it, but the man's got no concept of balance, or of scale."
Greth shrugs uncomfortably.
Xilona hangs her head.
Traiva nods slowly to Greth.
Greth says, "He's been a solid friend to me and mine, though, and ah trust him with my life."
Xilona slowly empties her lungs.
Greth says, "Ah won't speak fer others."
Grelana nods slowly to Greth.
Jenina nods to Greth.
Talinvor says, "Like beating people with their own limbs. Killing people to supply to a taxidermist to make puppets."
Speaking to Greth, Sothog says, "I can agree with that assessment.  He's a killer, but I don't think he thinks through the long game side of things."
Greth says, "Ah believe Socius wants ta do right, an' be a force fer good.  One thing that none can say is that he doesn't hesitate to act when he feels this Isle is threatened."
Rohese nods in agreement to Greth.
Traiva nods slowly to Greth.
Xilona agrees with Greth.
Speaking to Greth, Traiva says, "Yes, you cannot say he does not have conviction."
Greth says, "However... Socius don't run the place.  That's Ilsola."
Greth scratches his neck idly, clearly changing mental gears.
Xilona clenches her jaw.
Rohese gently rests her hand on Xilona's shoulder.
Xilona takes a drink from her Balefire whiskey.
Lazaryth asks, "What exactly is Ilsola's title?"
Xilona flashes a quick grin at Rohese.
Rohese winks at Xilona.
Greth says, "Ilsola Tuulikki, she's the Town Administrator, an' handles all the day to day stuffs."
Speaking politely to Lazaryth, Lynaera says, "Administrator."
Greth says, "She's sorta the equivalent of our mayor."
Meliyara nods understandingly to Greth.
Grelana quietly asks, "So she is in charge?"
Speaking to Rohese, Xilona says, "I still want to kick her, I just cannot help it."
Xilona smirks.
Rohese amusedly adds, "My boss."
Rohese giggles to herself.
Speaking amusedly to Xilona, Rohese says, "I know."
Rohese nods understandingly at Xilona.
Speaking to Grelana, Greth says, "Sort of?  Socius is in charge when it comes down to it, but even he knows that him handlin' day ta day stuff is a bad idea."
Greth says, "Ilsola's been in charge here fer... quite a few years, honestly.  An' she gives it her best.  Pleasant enough to talk with, but she's not much of a fighter.  When things get rough, she's not gonna be out there with a sword in hand."
Greth says, "An' she does sometimes seem to be a little in over her head."
Speaking to Greth, Xilona says, "To say the least."
Naamit nods in agreement.
Speaking softly to Greth, Rohese agrees, "She gets a little overwhelmed at times."
Akenna asks, "Who wouldn't?"
Speaking musingly to Rohese, Yardie says, "Don't we all."
Sothog says, "She's an administrative type.  I don't think defense or warfare is her idiom."
Grelana quietly asks, "Is there a coordinated sort of force here on the isle?  Guards? Militia?"
Greth nods at Grelana.
Speaking to Grelana, Faerinn says, "Both."
Speaking to Grelana, Greth exclaims, "We have a Militia... an' a Safe Haven, even!"
Rohese smiles.
Greth grins crookedly.
Greth nods at Akenna.
Khobra removes a brass Mist Harbor militia badge from in her midnight black cloak
Akenna nods to Greth.
Speaking quietly to Greth, Grelana says, "That is comforting."
Grelana smiles.
Speaking to Greth, Yardie says, "I honestly feel safer here than in other places.  For a nervous person like me, that is saying something."
Akenna says, "We do have a militia and we're always accepting new recruits."
Greth says, "The Militia has done really well... ye can tell from how we're still here."
Akenna says, "Our requirement is that you want to protect the island." 
Greth says, "We had a bit of excitement a little bit ago, an' the militia, along with some others, managed to keep the place standing."
Grelana quietly asks, "What sort of excitement?" 
Grelana turns an inquisitive ear toward Greth. 
Jenina asks, "Excitement. what type ?" 
Jenina turns an inquisitive ear toward Greth. 
Greth sighs and scratches his head. 
Speaking to Xilona, Greth asks, "What type would ye call it?" 
Xilona ponders. 
Speaking to Greth, Xilona says, "Ya know, not really sure, I'm afraid." 
Greth nods in agreement. 
Greth says, "We had a character 'round these parts called Nazhor." 
Akenna narrows her eyes. 
Xilona says, "Character is one way to put it." 
Xilona laughs softly, trying to hide her amusement. 
Grelana quietly says, "Nazhor." 
Greth says, "Nazhor was a bad sort, an' wouldn't have been content with jes' destroying the town." 
Speaking softly to Greth, Rohese says, "That's an understatement." 
Greth says, "But thanks to some of those here, an' some others who ain't been around in a while... he was stopped." 
Speaking to Yardie, Greth says, "He was touched in the head.  Wanted to be a god." 
Greth shrugs. 
Speaking gently to Greth, Rohese says, "You have such a way with words." 
Faerinn says, "I didn't think he was satisfied with the one world." 
Greth smiles at Rohese. 
Greth says, "Anyhow... Ah guess Nazhor could lead to Penre." 
Greth mutters, "If ye squint a bit, anyhow." 
Traiva starts chortling at Greth. 
Regwen appears to be trying hard not to grin. 
Sothog begins chuckling at Greth! 
Greth says, "Penre's a friend, first an' always.  'E got caught up in the whole Nazhor business and got all turned around." 
Greth says, "He's a sometime merchant, but lately he just tries to help folks however he can." 
Greth says, "Penre spent some time under the protection of..." 
Greth looks around the room for a face, but doesn't find it. 
Greth says, "Another friend." 
Grelana watches Greth closely for a moment. 
Greth says, "An' came away a little scared of his shadow." 
Sothog nods to Greth. 
Speaking to Greth, Yardie says, "Scared of his own shadow?  I can relate." 
Speaking to Lazaryth, Kothos says, "If Faerinn is "old"..." 
Greth says, "But he's a good sort, an' is tryin' hard to find his place in our little corner of the world." 
Rohese smiles quietly to herself. 
A look of introspection flits across Kothos's face. 
Speaking to Greth, Yardie says, "Sounds like a kindred spirit." 
Greth absently pulls a flask from his belt, takes a healthy swig, then replaces the flask. 
Speaking to Rohese, Greth asks, "Who'm I missing?" 
Rohese looks thoughtfully at Greth. 
Speaking softly to Greth, Rohese says, "Let me see now ..." 
Speaking to Greth, Xilona says, "Depends on how far back you'd like to go." 
Faerinn says, "Penre..Socius...Ilsola..." 
Speaking softly to Greth, Rohese says, "Perhaps a brief word about the Iyo." 
Greth nods at Rohese. 
Faerinn asks, "Maybe Socius's young ward, Zofiya?" 
Rohese nods at Faerinn. 
Rohese softly says, "And of course, Zofiya." 
Naamit smirks. 
Greth says, "The Iyo... they're the native folk of this Isle.  Yer not likely ta see em, but they're around.  It's up for debate if they're friendly or not, an' it seems ta depend on who's askin' em." 
Speaking to Greth, Yardie asks, "What does....what does an Iyo look like?" 
Speaking to Yardie, Greth says, "They're rather small in stature, but they make up fer that with a fierce disposition an' a remarkable archery ability." 
Speaking to Rohese, Xilona says, "I actually like that kid. I'd like to see her again." 
Rohese agrees with Xilona. 
Speaking softly to Xilona, Rohese says, "She's a sweetheart." 
Xilona holds up her hand and tilts it side to side in a so-so gesture. 
Speaking to Xilona, Naamit says, "Little upstart that she is." 
Greth quietly mutters, "Zofiya." 
Speaking to Rohese, Xilona says, "She keeps Greth in line." 
Xilona laughs softly, trying to hide her amusement. 
Rohese giggles at Xilona. 
Greth says, "Zofiya is... well, ward is one way ta put it, ah s'pose." 
Speaking softly to Xilona, Rohese says, "Some one needs to." 
Jenina asks, "Is Zofiya a Leiffen ?.. or perhaps a secret one ?" 
Rohese gazes fondly at Greth. 
Xilona agrees with Rohese. 
Naamit looks over at Jenina and shakes her head. 
Speaking to Jenina, Faerinn says, "No, but he's taken her under his wing." 
Greth says, "Zofiya is... was a street girl, as she'd call it.  Here in Mist Harbor." 
Xilona grins at Greth. 
Khobra nods slowly to Greth. 
Xilona says, "A spitfire, to be sure." 
Akenna grins at Greth. 
Rohese softly says, "A sweet child." 
Greth says, "She was bigger than the rest of her little group, an' she took care of em." 
Rohese agrees with Xilona. 
Greth says, "Aye... she's got a hot temper and a sharp tongue fer one so young." 
Traiva says, "She seems a darling." 
Traiva smiles fondly. 
Xilona places a hand over her heart. 
Speaking to Greth, Xilona says, "My favorite." 
Speaking to Jenina, Naamit says, "The child is giantkin." 
Xilona winks at Greth. 
Traiva begins chortling at Xilona. 
Speaking to Greth, Lynaera agrees, "She is rather..determined." 
Greth says, "She's convinced she can change the world through the strength of her fury... an' when it's pointed at me, ah'm tempted to agree." 
Speaking to Xilona, Traiva asks, "Why am I not surprised?" 
Faerinn says, "The thing about taking on orphans as wards is that both sides learn something." 
Greth says, "She's still a child, in many ways.  Ah do mah best to keep her from tacklin' somethin' she ain't ready for... but she's pretty sure she's ready fer it all." 
Speaking approvingly to Greth, Leifa says, "It's good of you to have cared for her and made sure of that." 
Speaking to Greth, Traiva says, "Sometimes they need to get in over their heads to learn how to swim." 
Traiva calmly flutters her wings at the Greth in time to an unheard rhythm. 
Speaking dryly to Xilona, Greth says, "Shy ain't in her vocabulary." 
Speaking curiously to Greth, Khobra remarks, "Do you believe Zhe is ready for it all or up for more training?" 
Speaking to Khobra, Greth says, "Ah think butting heads with her is a fight a billy goat would lose.  All ah can do is try an' guide her as best I can fer as long as she'll let me." 
Xilona agrees with Greth. 
Speaking to Greth, Xilona says, "And you have done an amazing job." 
Greth says, "In that, Socius has offered his assistance.  He's taken her under his wing, so ta speak, an' last ah heard, he was trainin' her with the blade." 
Lynaera remarks, "Ah, so that is where she has gone." 
Leifa nods approvingly to Greth. 
Speaking softly to Greth, Rohese asks, "Are they both keeping well?" 
Speaking to Lynaera, Greth says, "If ah kept her cooped up here, she'd cave mah head in one night in my sleep." 
Lynaera agrees with Greth. 
Xilona laughs softly, trying to hide her amusement. 
Grelana begins chuckling at Greth! 
Yukito raises an eyebrow. 
Speaking thoughtfully to Greth, Khobra remarks, "Mozt interezting. A blade he once uszed, of preparing her for another style of veaponary." 
Naamit smirks. 
Faerinn says, "The Leiffen armoury has more than a couple of returning knives." 
Speaking to Khobra, Greth says, "Ye ain't seen her in a while... that girl's big fer her age.  She's already head an' shoulders above Socius.  He got her hooked on a big old sword, an' she practically slept with it under her pillow before they left." 
Xilona agrees with Faerinn. 
Speaking quietly to Faerinn, Grelana asks, "Are these daggers magical?" 
Rohese furrows her brow. 
Leifa clears her throat. 
Naamit says, "They are indeed magical." 
Speaking to Grelana, Faerinn says, "Yes, but I don't think they work for anyone else." 
Greth nods at Faerinn. 
Speaking concernedly to Greth, Rohese asks, "I hope he is also allowing her time to learn other things?" 
Speaking to herself, Regwen says, "Can't blame a girl for loving her blade." 
Speaking to Rohese, Greth says, "They're due back soon, ah think.  Ain't good to focus too much on war, in mah experience." 
Rohese nods understandingly to Greth. 
Speaking softly to Greth, Rohese says, "Please remind her where the Library is." 
Speaking to Rohese, Greth says, "An' Socius is... what he is.  There's some limits on what he can teach a person." 
Speaking to Rohese, Xilona says, "I am sure Socius would not leave her lacking. He of all people knows there is more than just weilding a blade." 
Greth shrugs. 
Speaking to Rohese, Xilona says, "I also have faith in her for wanting.....more. That child is hungry." 
Akenna says, "I am sure she is being looked after in the best possible way by Socius." 
Greth says, "Fer those who don't already know her... Lady Rohese here serves as the Loremaster for the Isle, and is the current custodian of the Library in town." 
Greth smiles at Rohese. 
Rohese blushes sheepishly to herself. 
Rohese waves. 
Rohese softly says, "All our welcome to use the resources in our wonderful Library." 
Greth leans back slightly, gazing up at the ceiling and muttering to himself. 
Greth says, "Ah think that's it as far as the folks ye're likely to run into round here..." 
Greth says, "Though ah'm likely fergettin' one or two.  Mind ain't what it was." 
Faerinn says, "Callid has a funny way of popping up." 
Greth says, "Hm.  A point." 
Greth nods at Faerinn. 
Speaking to Faerinn, Traiva says, "I hope he does not "pop up" any more.." 
Speaking to Faerinn, Greth asks, "Ye know more 'bout than one than ah do.  Mind handlin' that?" 
Faerinn says, "Callid? Sure." 
Faerinn says, "So Callid is very troubled gnome who had a workshop in near these parts." 
Faerinn says, "The entrance was probably somewhere over in Western Harbor, but we never quite found the front door. It collapsed near the safe haven not to long ago." 
Faerinn says, "He was a skilled surgeon who lost his family to bandits." 
Faerinn says, "Fell in with the Lich King's assistant Vlashandra for a while, along with Socius when he lost his memory." 
Xilona tilts her head toward Faerinn, examining him intently as the tip of one ear twitches briefly. 
Faerinn says, "Vlashandra promised him a means to bring his family back if he got the parts to put them back together." 
Faerinn says, "Vlashandra lied to a lot of people to help out her scheme in the Landing. Callid was one of them. She never intended to help him. When his workshop collapsed he made it out, but the 'family' he stitched together did not. There's a multiple personality thing going on with him now." 
Speaking to Xanthium, Faerinn says, "Socius was never actually dead." 
Greth nods slowly at Faerinn. 
Greth mutters, "Selbi." 
Speaking to Faerinn, Xanthium says, "Yes, that part." 
Sreka grumbles. 
Xilona growls ferociously! 
Traiva leans forward. 
Grelana quietly asks, "Who is Selbi.  Did I miss that part?" 
Akenna says, "He wasn't, Selbi made sure of it." 
Speaking to Greth, Xilona asks, "We really don't have to speak of her, do we?" 
Speaking to Grelana, Lynaera says, "A skilled illusionist." 
Speaking to Grelana, Akenna says, "She used to be Socius' teacher." 
Grelana blinks at Lynaera. 
Greth tiredly says, "Mistress Selbi was... responsible fer makin' people think Socius was dead.  Fer a time." 
Rohese closes her eyes for a moment. 
Talinvor scowls. 
Jenina says, "I missed that one." 
Grelana quietly says, "Oh." 
Leifa frowns at Greth. 
Rohese lets out a long, contemplative breath. 
Speaking to Greth, Yardie asks, "How long was she able to keep up that ruse?" 
Speaking to Grelana, Akenna says, "She sacrificed herself for this place, for Socius." 
Xilona squints at Greth. 
Xilona gawks at Akenna. 
Speaking to Akenna, Xilona exclaims, "She is no martyr!" 
Speaking to Akenna, Naamit says, "That's one way to color it." 
Porfidat glances between Akenna and Xilona. 
Speaking to Grelana, Akenna says, "Despite what she did or didn't do, she had this place and Socius' interest at heart." 
Rohese bites her lip. 
Speaking to Xilona, Akenna says, "And yes, she was." 
Sreka says, "I still don't understand why everyone was so sad when they thought Socius was dead." 
Lynaera politely reminds, "Selbi did manage to contain a group of...dissidents." 
Rohese lowers her gaze. 
Talinvor says, "Selbi led the flock into doing nefarious deeds, holding certain.. threats to enforce her direction." 
Rohese studies a small cup of ginger tea with a critical eye. 
Greth says, "Selbi was... complicated.  She did what she did, an' there are plenty of thoughts about her reasonin'.  Only thing ah can say fer sure is if she tol' me water was wet, I'd check twice an' ask the Loremaster here for confirmation afore I believed it." 
Talinvor says, "Then after blackmailing the flock to do her deeds, she betrayed them." 
Talinvor shrugs. 
Greth nods at Talinvor. 
Speaking to Greth, Yardie asks, "Duplicitous tongue, yes?" 
Speaking to Yardie, Greth says, "Like no other ah've ever known." 
Naamit inquires, "Did Ilsola ever receive an accounting of the claim for damages in the hovel town?" 
Speaking to Greth, Yardie says, "That's....intriguing." 
Grelana turns an inquisitive ear toward Naamit. 
Speaking to Naamit, Greth says, "Ah think she mentioned it?  Ah know it came up a time er two, but dunno what came of it." 
Yukito shows Greth his pocket notebook. 
Greth blurts, "Oh, yeah... An' Socius is banned from the Landing." 
Yukito put a hand-sized pocket notebook in his mail backpack. 
Faerinn nods to Greth. 
Speaking to Greth, Faerinn says, "That too." 
Speaking puzzledly to Yukito, Greth says, "Ah'm not really sure?  He's not the sort ta make plans, but maybe Ilsola er someone put together some papers..." 
Speaking to Faerinn, Greth asks, "You know anythin' about Socius havin' a will?" 
Yukito nods to Greth. 
Faerinn ponders. 
Speaking quietly to Yukito, Greth says, "Faerinn here's been in an' around the town records." 
Yukito nods politely to Greth. 
Faerinn says, "If he has one made out, I haven't stumbled across it." 
Naamit grins mischievously at Faerinn. 
Speaking softly to Faerinn, Rohese says, "As always, you're welcome to look through the old records in the Library." 
Yukito nods firmly. 
Sothog says, "That's a point.  If Socius dies, that creates a bit of a mess if nobody's lined up to take his place." 
Greth says, "Ah'm sure there's things ah'm forgettin', but that's the high points.  An'... ah need a drink." 
Greth chortles.
