Along Erissian Var: A Nations on the Brink Ta'Illistim Vignette

Between the numerous homes and their proximity to the library and theatre, there were several places people could be placed unnoticed on Volnes, the elf concluded, nodding to himself as he walked along Erissian Var in what would appear to be a casual stroll to any watching. And it would not be unusual for other patrons to be inside Galieca's at the appointed time either, so one or two of his best blending in should go unnoticed.

As he was drawing these conclusions, a flash of grey caught his eye near the very tea shop he had just been observing. His practiced eyes took in a rich, glimmering grey cloak over what appeared to be a feminine form, but all identifying features were obscured. The demeanor seemed unnaturally surreptitious and wary. The man was about to follow when a crush of patrons heading toward the theatre interrupted his line of sight, and the figure disappeared.

Sighing, he walked over to the tea shop to see if he could find any small clue, and with the intent of picking the best locations for his people for tomorrow. However, as he reached the door, he noticed it was closed and barred. He noted this with interest then lost himself in the crowds along the var.

Elsewhere On Erissian Var:
A well-dressed couple get out of a carriage in front of a marble-clad manor house. As the pair of women approach the manor, however, their expressions turn from delight to surprise. One of them rattles the door handle, finding it securely locked. With a frown, they get back in their carriage and ride away.

Later, at tea with several other well-outfitted sorts, the women pass along that A Twist of Roses was inexplicably closed without warning. Another is overheard wondering when anyone had last seen or heard from the owning trio of Yfane, Caelesta, and Auvyra. By the end of the gathering, many leave under the impression something untoward may have occurred.

No One Home: A Nations on the Brink Vignette

Bowing deeply, the small page gazes up at the elven man before him. “Yes, Lord Seneschal?

“Almyr, I need you to run an errand for me.” Handing the boy a small pouch, the man continues. “Please go to Wax Eloquent. Lady Gael has a box of new paper for me. Bring it here when you return. I have several letters to respond to.” Tapping one letter on his desk, Aeriadrn mutters, “Especially this one.”

“Yes, Lord Seneschal,” the boy responds as his eyes are drawn to the letter on the desk. He can make out the letters “Ard” before Aeriadrn taps his foot with impatience. Quickly bowing again, the boy repeats, “Yes Lord Seneschal.” Taking the pouch of silver, the boy turns and hastily exits the room.

Leaving the keep, the page moves quickly down the streets hardly pausing to look into his favorite shops. Approaching Stearriza Var, the boy stops before a doorway framed in sapphire glaes tiles. Turning the knob, he finds that it will not budge. He tries turning it several more times before knocking loudly. Putting his ear up to the door, he stands very quietly, but hears nothing. Looking up, he notices several tacks with bits of parchment stuck under them.

With a loud sigh, the page turns back towards the Keep. “The Lord Seneschal will not like this at all.”

Shopping in Shimmarglin Court: A Nations on the Brink Vignette

Crowds of patrons walk about Shimmarglin Court going from stall to shop, looking over items on display. Amidst the press of shoppers, a pair of ladies whisper and giggle about the upcoming summer social season.

“I understand there will be several balls. I ordered two new day gowns and a new ballgown,” one comments.

“Only one?” says the other. “I ordered two and new jewelry to match. But I still need slippers to match each. Accompany me to the Well-Heeled? I will not allow anyone but Linsandral to craft my shoes.”

The other lady nods in agreement. “I could use new slippers as well.”

Skirting about the dais, the pair makes their way to a white marble building. Stepping up on the portico, the one pushes at the door, but it refuses to move. The other woman leans over and knocks hard several times.

Taking a step back, they both look puzzled before peering in the window.

“Oh my, I hope he returns soon, I trust no one, and I mean no one else to make my slippers. Come with me for a glass of wine at the inn? We can wait for his arrival there.”

Nodding to each other, they walk in the direction of the Shimmarglin Inn.
