Haunted Spirits 2023 – “The Haunted Stoutfoot Mule”-by Opalina

The expansive kitchen features a large cherrywood counter topped with cotton candy pink marble at its heart, with numerous cupboards, cabinets, and drawers lining the walls. A hammered copper stove sits between marble and wood countertops, and amidst the gleaming cleanliness, lingering bits of cobwebs and crimson stains can be seen. A set of swinging double doors leads out. You also see the web-draped Missoni disk, the silk-veiled Traiva disk painted with scarlet snapdragons, a drink-stained list and a pumpkin-carved sign.

Coelian nods to you.

You nod.

Tabubu arches one eyebrow at Trallihn in an expression of sardonic amusement.

You stand in front of a copper-inlaid cabinet.

You reach into the container and grab the first thing that comes to hand.

Trallihn leans against a drink-stained list.

Spookia exclaims, "Still four slots on the list!"

You raise your peony blossoms skyward!

Falvicar attempts to hum a merry little tune.

Trallihn leans on Ordim, giving him a companionable grin.

Coelian exclaims, "Pretty!"

(Opalina shows off her Peony Blossom to the group..)

Coelian whispers, "Let me know when you are ready."

Traiva says, speaking to you, "A very nice ingredient."

Coelian just closed a copper-inlaid cabinet.

You hear a click as Coelian locks a copper-inlaid cabinet.

Missoni exclaims, "How lovely!"

Trallihn says, speaking to Spookia, "Yer right... I'm already beggin fer last year."

Trallihn grins.

Spookia says, "You will want to TAP that special ingredient after you get it."

Spookia nods.

Spookia says, "So we can all see its glory."

Ordim chuckles lightly, a rime of frost forming on the black fur around his mouth.

Falvicar chuckles to himself.

Coelian grins at Spookia.

Falvicar snickers at Spookia.

Coelian asks, "Anyone else?"

Coelian taps a drink-stained list.

Spookia says, "We will leave it open in case there are stragglers."

Falvicar grins at Coelian.

Spookia says, "If you are using one of your own ingredients, please make sure we know what that is too."

Spookia nods.

Coelian nods in agreement.

Missoni adopts an agreeable expression.

Coelian exclaims, "We want you to tell us all about your wonderful drink!"

Coelian applauds.

Coelian exclaims, "I cannot wait to taste them!"

A musical bell tinkles as Jaysehn comes through the swinging doors.

Missoni's face lights up with joy for Jaysehn.

Jaysehn gives a quick nod and tips his hat.

Ordim nods slightly.

Jaysehn gazes thoughtfully at a pumpkin-carved sign.

Coelian exclaims, "Jaysehn, sign the list!"

Jaysehn asks, "Eh?"

Ordim chuckles lightly, a rime of frost forming on the black fur around his mouth.

Coelian giggles.

Tolwynn says, speaking to Jaysehn, "List is still open."

Coelian snaps his fingers.

You quietly whisper to Coelian, "Okay I am ready."

Jaysehn adds his name to the drink-stained list.

You smile.

Jaysehn asks, "What did I just sign?"

Coelian whispers, "That was fast!"

Isela giggles.

Jaysehn gazes thoughtfully at a drink-stained list.

Traiva taps a pumpkin-carved sign.

Giogionni says, "A list."

Ordim growls, speaking to Jaysehn, "Hat toss game."

You quietly whisper to Coelian, "Well we'll see how it goes eh?"

Jaysehn says, speaking to Ordim, "Oh...I can't do that. My hat never comes off."

Jaysehn glances at a pumpkin-carved sign.

You lean against a copper-inlaid cabinet.

Ordim growls, speaking to Jaysehn, "Then use whole head."

Ordim roars!

Ordim stretches his arms over his head and stands to his full, ominous height.

Jaysehn cocks his head at Ordim.

Falvicar leans against you, bending his head to rest it gently against yours.

Coelian says, "Okay, Opalina is ready, but before she starts, Fleurs, come get your special ingredient."

Fleurs gulps.

You hear a click as Coelian unlocks a copper-inlaid cabinet.

Fleurs gazes with interest at a copper-inlaid cabinet.

Coelian just opened a copper-inlaid cabinet.

You put several wilted peony blossoms in your white bearskin coat.

Fleurs reaches into a container inside the cabinet and pulls something out.

Fleurs sighs.

Fleurs taps a trio of hairy tarantula legs, which is in her right hand.

Coelian just closed a copper-inlaid cabinet.

Ordim blinks.

You hear a click as Coelian locks a copper-inlaid cabinet.

Coelian says, "Ooh."

Traiva slowly empties her lungs.

You quietly say, "Ohh."

Coelian takes a moment to observe Fleurs.

You shudder.

Coelian says, "And now..."

Ordim plops down to the ground in a sitting position.

Falvicar leans over and whispers, "Darling???"

You beam!

Coelian exclaims, "Opalina! you may begin!"

Fleurs exclaims, speaking to you, "Yours were a lot better!"

Fleurs chuckles.

Coelian applauds you.

You stand in front of a copper-inlaid cabinet.

Falvicar whispers, "Had me worried for a moment. nevermind."

You recite quietly: 

   "Legend has it the halflings brought with them all sorts of animals on their travels. By the time they founded Icemule most of the animals couldn't handle the cold and died off. All but the Mule and the Stoutfoot roltons."

(Opalina selects several ingredients from the cabinets and drawers examining each one carefully for any bruising, blemishes, or molds. She returns one item back to the cupboards. Finally satisfied she places her gathered items into her basket and moves to a large Cherrywood counter topped with cotton candy pink marble and arranged them neatly before her.)

A musical bell tinkles as Giogionni goes through the swinging doors.

You recite quietly: 

   "Now Stoutfoot roltons were a hardy animal, they supported the Icemule halflings by providing warm wools, and plenty of milk to feed them until their harvests came in."

(Opalina gathers a tall skinny clear glass, a silver tumbler with a lid, along with several measuring tools.)

A musical bell tinkles as Giogionni comes through the swinging doors.

You recite quietly: 

   "The milk as it turned out had several positive health boosting qualities. Stoutfoot milk was used in medicines to help cure infections, fevers and even helping with the common nose bleed, Young babies who were sickly were given Stoutfoot milk to help sustain them and they thrived."

(Opalina picks up the tall skinny clear glass and adds a large piece of ice into it. She swirls the ice around with a little stick forcing it to spin wildly in a circle effectively chilling the glass. She sets it aside.)

Jastalyn gives Traiva a lingering kiss, first on one cheek, then the other.

Jastalyn hugs Tolwynn, who wraps her in a warm embrace.

(Opalina picks up some thick raspberry puree and measures it precisely, smelling the liquid and sighing in satisfaction before turning it over into an empty tumbler in front of her.)

Coelian gazes fondly at you.

You recite quietly: 

   "They also fermented the milk into a drink which is called Kumys. It is believed to be the nectar of the gods, and became a local staple."

You wink at Coelian.

Falvicar nods slowly.

(Opalina picks up a bottle of mango-infused rum and tips it into a small measuring cup then flips it into the tumbler.)

(Opalina picks up a pinch of pink sea salt and pepper and sprinkles them into the tumbler.)

(Opalina pulls a bottle of creamy kumys from her byssine satchel and pours it generously into the tumbler.)

Ordim grunts.

You recite quietly: 

   "What I am making today is a hunted version of Kumys that is served at breakfast. It s to give you a little pep in your step and grow hair on your toes. It is considered a local delicacy. Enjoy."

(Opalina grabs a lid and places it tightly over the tumbler. Picking up the tumbler, she wildly shakes all the ingredients. Her two hands cupping the lidded tumbler on either side of her as it swings back and forth. A slight grin teases her lips as she catches your eye.)

Coelian gasps.

Coelian places a hand over his heart.

(Opalina ends her shaking and removes the lid with a loud POP . Snagging a holed metal spoon with an attached spiral she covers the tumbler and tilts it over the tall iced glass straining thick sanguineous liquid from the tumbler.)

Missoni flashes a quick grin.

Coelian exclaims, "She's a wild shaker!"

(Opalina pulls a fresh peony blossom from her coat and waves it gently over the tall glass before gently placing it on the rim letting it float on the top of the chilled tall glass.)

Jaysehn ponders.

You giggle.

Spookia says, speaking to herself, "That is very...red."

You nod.

Coelian nods at Spookia.

(Opalina removes a handful of gilded plum glitter from inside her elesine sack.)

(Opalina throws a handful of gilded plum glitter up into the air, and it floats down in a cloud all over the area!)

(Opalina presents a tall iced glass of thick sanguineous liquid garnished with a peony blossom on the large cherrywood counter now sprinkled with flecks of gilded plum glitter. She offers you a sample. Upon taking a sip, your tongue is coated by the smooth silky texture of the drink, broken by tiny popping bubbles which develop into a haunting within your mouth with hints of salt. A pale ghost of sweet raspberry and mango hide till the last minute jumping out with a surprise boo followed by the underlying alcoholic taste of salt and peppered sour kumys to end the haunted experience leaving you feeling refreshed and relaxed.)

Coelian squeals.

Coelian smacks his lips.

You quietly say, "And there you have it.. The Haunted Stoutfoot Mule."

Isela's black ora ring pulses and she suddenly looks drained!

Ordim chuckles lightly, a rime of frost forming on the black fur around his mouth.

Ordim applauds wildly!

Missoni applauds you warmly.

Missoni flashes a quick grin.

Trallihn turns to you and cheers!

Coelian applauds you.

You bow.

Coelian exclaims, "Thank you!"

Tabubu pulls her hands out of the confines of her silken underrobe's sleeves.

Tabubu applauds.

Fleurs applauds.

Traiva applauds.

Ordim growls, "Rolton booze!"

You stride over to stand before Falvicar.

Missoni says, speaking to you, "Lovely. I liked the glitter especially."

You beam happily at Missoni!

Leaning gently against Falvicar, you close your eyes and sigh contentedly. Sensing your mood, Falvicar slips his arm around you.

Spookia applauds.

Spookia delays approaching the counter.

Isela applauds.

Spookia slowly empties her lungs.

Your cheeks flush with a soft pale rose shade, darkening your freckles even more.

(Opalina cleans up her mess.)

Spookia picks up a glass and takes a quick drink.

Spookia coughs.

>'sorry so much clitter!

You quietly exclaim, "Sorry so much clitter!"

Spookia says, "It is...pungent."

Fleurs nods.

Spookia says, "And, uh...thick."

Traiva nods slowly at Spookia.
