Day two of the 5122 Palestra Trials began with sparring matches between candidates, between candidates and Palestra Master, Blade Mishrac, and a collective battle against a lesser demon.

Phase One - Candidate vs. Candidate
[Academy Nexus, Palestra Arena - ] (u13033006) Built in an outside area of the academy, the arena is surrounded by a wall of clear energy that rises into the air, joining at a central focal point and creating a shimmering dome. Several passageways can be seen behind the magical barrier. The ground of the area is covered in multi-hued cobblestones. There are no adornments or obstacles that can be seen except random areas that are blackened or discolored. Also here: Alanisse, Dragoon Ketsimney, Sarissa Brutish, Lord Tayler, Great Lord Vaeldrys, Mistress Khobra, Dhairn, Anru, Blade Schalyne
Various members of Faendryl society begin to move through the nexus and fill other boxes that can be seen across the arena.
Groups of Faendryl wearing the official insignia of the Basilica slowly enter another booth.
A figure in shimmering robes enters the same area and takes a seat, his form shrouded by his guards.
The guarded Faendryl slowly takes his seat, the others in his box follow his lead.
(Yardie drops to a knee, touches the ground with a sweep of the hand, and then gently presses his lips against the palm of his hand before rising back to his feet.)
A single row of trumpeters begins to call out a fanfare.
The trumpeters call out another fanfare!
Schalyne recites:
"We begin the trials of the Palestra!"
Schalyne recites:
"In just a moment, we will begin the battle between candidates."
Schalyne recites:
"Lots have been drawn."
Schalyne walks about the arena until she reaches the box housing the guarded man.
Schalyne bows.
Schalyne recites:
"Glory and Honor to the Patriarch!"
Khobra nods respectfully at Schalyne.
Alanisse inclines her head.
Anru inclines his head.
Dhairn closes his eyes for a moment.
(Vaeldrys bows toward the box.)
(Tayler bows towards the box.)
(Yardie glances the members in the box and bows nervously before returning his attention to Schalyne.)
Dhairn vs. Tayler
Schalyne nods. Schalyne recites:
"Our first match of the night is between Dhairn and Tayler"
Dhairn blinks. Tayler blinks. Tayler nods at Dhairn. Schalyne recites:
"Candidates are you ready?"
Khobra glances between Dhairn and Tayler.
Tayler removes a grey-swirled coraesine orb from in his blackened gold case.
Dhairn nods.
Tayler twirls his finger around the coraesine orb, and it suddenly becomes shrouded in a hazy white light that ripples with undulating waves of power.
After a moment, the coraesine orb lashes outward and forms into a massive coraesine sword wrought with a spiral of incarnadine sigils.
Tayler quickly whips the ebon Faendryl pavis off his shoulder and onto his awaiting arm. The surface of the pavis pulses with white and black energy.
Dhairn turns to face Tayler.
Ketsimney's mithglin bracelet pulses with energy. The pulsing fades and an auroral eonake amulet accented with a moon-shaped ice blue diamond remains.
Tayler turns to face Dhairn.
Tayler nods at Schalyne.
(Dhairn stalks around the ring, circling with eyes locked on Tayler.)
Schalyne takes a few steps back.
Schalyne recites:
"So it shall be."
(Tayler turns slowly in place, his pavis raised as he turns with Dhairn.)

Dhairn's indigo eyes slip closed and he issues a gentle summons to the spirits of water and moisture. Flashing around him, the spirits respond and leave trails of their power upon his faultless obsidian skin, which he then channels and sends outward into the surrounding area. Dhairn gestures. Tayler runs his finger along the coraesine sword's blade, causing one of the sigils engraved upon its surface to pulse with a pale white glow. Tayler fluidly slices his coraesine sword into the air, causing its edges to ripple with a grey-white light. Tayler is soon cloaked in a hazy blur as fast currents of air whip and tighten around him... Tayler suddenly starts moving light-footedly. Dhairn comes out of hiding. Dhairn put an eel-encircled ghezyte gauntlet-sword in his ebon fishnet thigh-sheath. Dhairn put an eel-adorned ghezyte slasher in his ebon fishnet thigh-sheath. Dhairn attempts to punch Tayler! Spidery lines of azure light spiral up from the point of impact, spreading over the chest of Tayler's Faendryl field plate. Coalescing with a burst of azure sparks, the visage of an ethereal noble storm griffin spreads its wings in a burst of crackling ethereal lightning and lets out a resounding shriek, the noise building into a discordant cacophony! A deafening shriek impacts Dhairn with a gust of displaced air! [SMR result: -97 (Open d100: 24)] Dhairn staggers slightly under the sonic onslaught, but remains standing. Ethereal bearded-dragon eels coil to life around Dhairn's arm and chest, writhing and riding hidden currents to form a chelioboros above his gesturing hand. They fade away while his voice becomes but a whisper. Dhairn gestures. The air thickens and begins to swirl around Dhairn. Dhairn squints at Tayler. (Tayler moves in for a quick strike.) Dhairn quickly whips the wall shield off his shoulder and onto his awaiting arm. The surface of the shield pulses with muted ebon and vibrant indigo energy. Tayler reverses his grip on his coraesine sword and darts toward Dhairn at an angle! [SMR result: -66 (Open d100: 62, Bonus: 16)] Tayler reaches toward Dhairn's right hand with his coraesine sword reversed, but he is too slow. The berserker's rage leaves Tayler's eyes. Tayler grins. Dhairn cackles! (Tayler darts in for a quick series of blows.) Tayler rotates his wrist, his coraesine sword executing a casual spin as he advances upon Dhairn! Tayler launches a quick bash with his ebon Faendryl pavis at Dhairn! Minor burns to chest. That hurts a bit. The molten magma rapidly cools and hardens into constricting rock. Tayler recovers from being rebuked, regaining his composure. (Dhairn kneels on Tayler.) The cooled rock clinging to Dhairn crumbles away. Tayler no longer favors his leg. Tayler's coraesine sword is cast in a pale blue glow as the misty thorns encircling it in a tight vortex pulse and hum with power. (Tayler rolls out from under Dhairn, finding his feet again.) A low chirping sound comes from within a polished oak cricket box. Tayler stands up. Dhairn falls over. Dhairn moves to a kneeling position. Tayler swings a massive coraesine sword at Dhairn! Dhairn skillfully dodges the attack! Dhairn stands up. Dhairn quietly says, "Whew... that's more than a razor." Tayler appears less distracted and conflicted. Tayler slowly empties his lungs. Dhairn shrugs a shoulder and slides the wall shield against his back. The once energetic surface of the wall shield visibly darkens. Tayler's ebon Faendryl pavis glows a bright yellow and orange hue for a moment. Tayler rotates his wrist, his coraesine sword executing a casual spin as he advances upon Dhairn! Tayler strains as if burdened by some invisible force. Tayler hesitates, his assault broken. He gives the blade of his coraesine sword a quick, sweeping flick as he lowers it. Dhairn quietly exclaims, "Down!" Tayler lets out a loud snarling growl and goes berserk! Tayler shakes off the stun and begins frothing at the mouth! The berserker's rage leaves Tayler's eyes. The lust for blood fades from Tayler's eyes. Tayler nods. Dhairn whispers something to Tayler. The misty thorns whirl faster around Tayler's coraesine sword, their hazy silhouettes blurring the air around them. Tayler blinks at Dhairn. Tayler sits up. Dhairn closes his eyes for a moment. Tayler makes a wheezing sound. Tayler says, "Yield." Dhairn put an eel-encircled ghezyte gauntlet-sword in his ebon fishnet thigh-sheath. Dhairn put an eel-adorned ghezyte slasher in his ebon fishnet thigh-sheath. Dhairn quietly says, "The day is yours." Tayler put a massive coraesine sword wrought with a spiral of incarnadine sigils in his leather sheath. Tayler accepts Brutish's tincture of yabathilium. Tayler blinks at Dhairn. Brutish pulls Tayler to his feet. Tayler takes a drink from his tincture of yabathilium. Tayler looks a lot better. Brutish dusts Tayler off. Schalyne nods. Speaking quietly to Tayler, Brutish says, "Good show." Tayler grins at Brutish. Tayler bows deeply at the waist, honoring Dhairn. Dhairn bows to Tayler. Dhairn points at Tayler with both fists, his index fingers outstretched like a pair of hand crossbows. Did he just wink at him? Schalyne says, "Well fought both of you." Tayler grins at Dhairn. Tayler shrugs a shoulder and slides the ebon Faendryl pavis against his back. The once energetic surface of the ebon Faendryl pavis visibly darkens. Schalyne nods.
Vaeldrys vs. Alanisse
Schalyne recites:
"The second trial will be between candidate Vaeldrys and candidate Alanisee."
Vaeldrys nods. Alanisse nods slightly. Vaeldrys says, "A moment." Schalyne recites:
