The pilum, similar to the javelin, is the lightest and fastest of the pole arm weapons and is used one-handed. The hafts of most pila are topped with an elongated spike or point which can be used to puncture or slash the target. The main trade-off for the pilum's light weight and speed is lower damage per strike.
A pilum cannot be used in Two Weapon Combat despite being one-handed
Alternate Names
- shield-breaker
- shield-sunderer
