Summary
- The white-cloaked vigilante attacks again, this time trying--but failing--to kill Madmountan in Town Square Central. Madmountan says he has no idea why he was attacked other than maybe older transgressions.
- Later in the night, the vigilante is seen speaking with Puptilian and Dinaden atop the Stone Baths. Adventurers pursue, but as they get there, the vigilante flees. Puptilian reports that the man said he would not stop until he'd cleansed the Landing of darkness. He says the man is well trained but likely not military trained, says that based on the way he spoke it seems to be a single person and not a group, and that the man "believes there is corruption from top to bottom" and "feels the only way to clean the mess is to bring his own justice," including the Rooks and their supporters.
- Pup further adds that it is likely someone from the town, since he seems to know its history well, but doubts that the vigilante is a Rook. He suggests that Stormyrain should first look into those who quit the militia several months ago.

Attack on Madmountan
[reports come in over the amunet of Madmountan being attacked by the vigilante in TSC; Leafiara heads over]
[Town Square Central]
This is the heart of the main square of Wehnimer's Landing. The impromptu shops of the bazaar are clustered around this central gathering place, where townsfolk, travellers, and adventurers meet to talk, conspire or raise expeditions to the far-flung reaches of Elanith. At the north end, an old well, with moss-covered stones and a craggy roof, is shaded from the moonlight by a strong, robust tree. The oak is tall and straight, and it is apparent that the roots run deep.
You curiously ask, "Heard about a bit of trouble here?"
Speaking amusedly to Madmountan, Cruxophim remarks, "Our vigilante is barking up the wrong tree, eh?"
Bernadette softly says, "At least ye dint die den."
Albanus says, "I don't think the murderer was expecting Madmountan to be more armored than an entire platoon of Imperial soldiers."
Speaking to Cruxophim, Madmountan says, "I liked him before, now he just made himself a target to me."
Speaking to Cruxophim, Marijka says, "One wonders what our esteemed peer has been up to of late."
Dergoatean asks, "Rone showed up again?"
Speaking dubiously to Madmountan, Cruxophim jests, "Are you murdering earls again?"
Bernadette softly asks, "A metal mask ?"
Nazarr recites:
"Suddenly, ethereal mist seems to seep out of the floor and swirl around until a white-cloaked figure is visible. The depths of his cowl throw his face in shadows, but there is a brief glint of what appears to be metal beneath the hood. In a blur of motions, the white figure kicks at Madmountan's legs, causing him to stumble and kneel. With fluid precision, the white figure slices along Madmountan's gut, tearing open his flesh and then disappearing into a swirl of ethereal fog as the giantman bleeds out."
Evia says, "Metal something."
Speaking curiously to Evia, Cruxophim speculates, "Metal mask, perhaps?"
Speaking to Madmountan, Irar asks, "What have you done?"
Evia says, "Maybe its reaaaaaaally bad teeth."
Speaking to Madmountan, Arnylon asks, "You tick off any women lately?"
Cryheart says, "We saw the white longcoat."
Speaking to Irar, Ysharra says, "Luckily for him, Madmountan is tough as the Dragonspine."
You confusedly say, "He left a job unfinished this time."
Speaking to Irar, Marijka says, "Apparently he's not so well prepared against heavily armed, heavily armored adventurers as he is against drunk clerks."
Speaking to Irar, Madmountan says, "What haven't I done."
Speaking to you, Albanus says, "No he didn't."
Pukk quietly says, "Or he may be a pirate with silver teeth."
Dergoatean asks, "Anyone see where he ran of to?"
Cruxophim yells, "MY NAME IS CRUX, AND I HAVE SINNED GREATLY!"
Speaking to Cruxophim, Evia asks, "Didn't Quinshon or such have some sort of metal in his face?"
Speaking baffledly to Albanus, you say, "I sure didn't sense Mad's death."
Shinann says, "They are fast."
Speaking to Madmountan, Ysharra says, "Maybe he should have cut your hands off first."
Cryheart says, "The spirit left."
Speaking to you, Albanus says, "Madmountan just happens to be more resistant than he expected."
Cryheart says, "We dinnae see any direction."
Speaking curiously to Evia, Cruxophim ventures, "He had a mask and a lot of shadows and teeth, didn't notice any metal."
Speaking to Ysharra, Ulkov says, "But he didn't steal anything.."
Elbromo says, "Look like a quick series of fogs."
Speaking slowly to Albanus, you conclude, "So a job unfinished--like I said."
Speaking to Cruxophim, Irar says, "This vigilante needs to be apprehended, Mayor. We have laws in this town."
Speaking quietly to Cruxophim, Pukk says, "I'm behind you....over here though."
Speaking wryly to Pukk, Cruxophim remarks, "I think he just gave up on me."
Raelee quietly says, "... if Quinshon were set upon murder, he would utilize a different method."
Speaking to Cruxophim, Arnylon says, "You realize these attacks are all your fault."
Speaking to Cruxophim, Evia says, "I just recall it as icky."
Speaking brightly to Madmountan, you exclaim, "But it's good to see you did survive!"
Speaking to Cruxophim, Irar says, "I heard about the clerk. Theft and embezzlement don't warrant a death sentence."
Speaking quietly to Cruxophim, Pukk says, "He knows that killing you will just make you happy."
Elbromo says, "Thats a quick caster."
Speaking amusedly to Arnylon, Cruxophim inquires, "How so?"
Speaking to Raelee, Ysharra says, "I doubt he'd go after Madmountan, anyway."
Cryheart says, "Slash protection helped."
Cryheart grins at Madmountan.
Ysharra says, "White hat ways doesn't seem to be his wheelhouse."
Speaking to Cruxophim, Arnylon says, "Everything else is purported to be your fault, so this shall be as well."
Cruxophim carefully mutters, "When I mentioned cutbacks, that is NOT what I meant."
Shinann says, "Moved too quickly for anyone to do anything."
You note, "Four targets and still all male."
Madmountan says, "I'm gonna be prepared for the next time."
Speaking nonchalantly to Arnylon, Cruxophim agrees, "Makes sense."
Speaking tearfully to Cruxophim, Ysharra says, "I'll cut you."
Ysharra snickers.
Speaking to you, Dergoatean says, "Lot of males around here, though."
Dirra says, "Remain of belief a female."
Speaking to you, Dergoatean says, "Plenty left."
Speaking to Madmountan, Arnylon says, "What were you up to earlier in the evening? Maybe there's a clue there."
You casually agree, "Sure, sure."
Speaking to Nazarr, Lylia asks, "You saw a male figure in your song, yes?" [note: Lylia arrived late too; later this is clarified that everyone saw it in person]
Marijka comments, "Well, that was briefly exciting, except for the part where the attack was completely ineffectual."
Ulkov says, "Ghost didn't get his target.. maybe he'll find another."
Nazarr says, "I wonder..."
Ulkov says, "Brazenly attacking in town center.."
Speaking to Marijka, Evia says, "I disagree....the message still came through."
Speaking to Marijka, Cruxophim comments, "Perhaps he was expecting a molehill instead of a Madmountan."
Irar says, "I'm more interested in why Madmountan was targeted."
Speaking to Ulkov, Arnylon says, "Perhaps there's a reason."
Lylia asks, "Or did you see this unfold in real time, not as a vision?"
Elbromo says, "We need a nifty name for this ..person."
Speaking wryly to Irar, Cruxophim reminds, "He's done a few things."
Speaking to Arnylon, Ulkov says, "You've met Madmountan. Of course there was a reason."
Cryheart says, "It occurred here."
Cryheart nods at Lylia.
Speaking sincerely to Elbromo, you say, "We've all been working on it."
Cryheart says, "Many witnessed it."
Lylia says, "Brazen."
Speaking to Elbromo, Dergoatean says, "We're already going with Spirit of Rone. Some anyway."
Speaking to Evia, Marijka says, "Counterproductive, from the perspective of the perpetrator. Now he's just begun alienating himself from all of us who might otherwise have approved of his actions."
Speaking to Ulkov, Arnylon says, "Yes, and I'm trying to find out what it was. I'm sure it's good."
Ysharra says, "Most all of us did."
Ysharra says, "I didn't get a good look at the vigilante."
Speaking to Cruxophim, Irar says, "I'd like to know just what warrants a killing according to this "ghost"."
Elbromo asks, "As in Rone Wehnimer?"
You nonchalantly say, "I wasn't here when it happened, but I'll believe you all."
Ysharra says, "I think he or she was thinking that would be much more effective than it was."
Speaking to Elbromo, Dergoatean says, "I don't know any other Rones."
Madmountan says, "I can tell you all this, It wasn't Quinshon. He wouldn't attack me...but that might be another reason why others would."
Lylia says, "And you saw a male figure, then. What you described, Nazarr? The shadow fell on his face, you said. Which means you saw a masculine figure."
Elbromo says, "Well yeah."
Arnylon says, "I got a good look at him. He was cloaked in white, ethereal, and didn't smell like cheesecake."
Albanus says, "Was wearing some sort of helmet or mask under their hood."
Ulkov says, "He wouldn't wear white anyway."
Ulkov waves his hand in a dismissive gesture.
Lylia dryly observes, "That narrows it down to roughly half the population."
Marijka says, "The face was hidden in the shadow of a deep hood. All I saw in there was a glint of perhaps metal."
Irar asks, "This attack. It occurred here in the square?"
Speaking to Irar, Albanus says, "Yes."
Marijka says, "Right in front of us all."
Irar says, "Quite brazen."
Elbromo says, "In front of everyone."
Speaking to Irar, Goldstr says, "I tinks be da actions 'gainst women an children nae any stealin."
Madmountan says, "He got me real good too. nearly fatal, but just not quite."
Irar says, "Seems like a statement to me."
Elbromo says, "Quick fogger."
Marijka says, "I'd fog instantly too if I tried to kill Madmountan, but missed."
Madmountan says, "I was about to take a swing at him...but I couldn't find him."
Albanus amusedly asks, "Well Madmountan, what woman did you assault to draw this oh so heroic vigilante's attention?"
Madmountan says, "I wanna see if the Baron's son tells us he was hunting "giants" tonight. We ain't having blackened Madmountan for dinner though."
Speaking to Albanus, Irar says, "The clerk never assaulted any women."
Elbromo says, "Da White Fogger."
Speaking innocently to Madmountan, Cruxophim ponders, "Aren't we, though?"
Speaking to Albanus, Madmountan says, "I don't recall ever hurting a woman that didn't ask me to."
Speaking to Irar, Albanus says, "Indirectly with him not providing for his wife."
Goldstr says, "Since it started jess after Breshon arrived, coulds be one a his soldiers."
Speaking to Albanus, Irar says, "I'd hardly call that assault."
Speaking to Irar, Albanus says, "Perhaps."
Cruxophim pragmatically states, "We don't really have enough information yet."
Elbromo says, "'da Ethereal Assasin'."
Speaking to Irar, Albanus says, "We also don't know who the wife is and if she was abused."
Speaking to Albanus, Irar says, "And if negligence now warrants death, I suspect a great many people are now up for the chopping block."
Speaking to Irar, Marijka says, "Let's say, rather than assault, simply "offenses against women." I do believe that tying his rationale to assault specifically may be misplaced."
Arnylon says, "I do have a theory."
You sagely say, "The Fog of Gore."
Speaking to Madmountan, Ysharra says, "I'm impressed, by the way. That would have skewered a myklian clear through."
Arnylon says, "It likely wasn't any of the other victims who assaulted Madmountain."
Speaking to Cruxophim, Ysharra says, "I haven't abused any women lately."
Speaking warmly to Cruxophim, Lylia says, "Thank you."
Speaking to Irar, Albanus says, "Well, I do wonder if this attack will perhaps sway some of the people toward the fact that this murderer needs to be brought to justice."
Madmountan says, "I mean...to be fair, I did sniff Evia right before he tried to gut me. I hardly think that was a worthy transgression."
Speaking jokingly to Ysharra, Cruxophim quips, "I don't think Goblyn counts..."
Lylia says, "Without being indecorous, that depends on the nature of the sniffing."
Speaking to Cruxophim, Ysharra says, "I hope not, for her sake."
Madmountan says, "I think I've always had consent to kill Goblyn too."
Speaking to Madmountan, Ysharra says, "She does tend to get rather thrilled about it."
Speaking to Lylia, Dergoatean says, "And exactly what was sniffed."
Madmountan says, "I'm being straight with you guys for once. I have no idea why I was attacked. I'd be happy to tell ya if I did."
Speaking to Madmountan, Arnylon asks, "You didn't accidentally abscond with a lass' ale or anything tonight?"
Lylia says, "Hardly along the lines of the other purported crimes, though."
Lylia nods at Madmountan.
Speaking to Madmountan, Albanus says, "You know, I believe you."
You thoughtfully agree, "Seems like our ghost didn't read or didn't agree with Pup's note."
Madmountan says, "I mean...could be revenge for older transgressions that we all know about."
Evia says, "What note."
Speaking to Madmountan, Arnylon asks, "And if not, why not?"
Ysharra says, "Agreed. There is some other possibility, I suppose."
Speaking to Madmountan, Ysharra asks, "Did you observe anything unusual lately?"
Marijka says, "It also could be that the circumstances we have come to believe about all the previous victims are entirely fallacious. Intentional misdirection."
Speaking to Evia, you explain, "Pup put a note on the tree and wanted to speak with the vigilante, presumably to talk him out of what he's doing."
Albanus says, "There's also no reason to not assume that the murderer won't try again on the same target."
Irar says, "Honestly, why Madmountan was attacked is immaterial at this point. The true criminal is at large."
Speaking to Ysharra, Ulkov says, "We sit at Plur's Pub. You're gonna have to further define "unusual"."
Speaking to Ysharra, Madmountan says, "I don't think so."
Speaking casually to you, Cruxophim reasons, "Perhaps he should have put a name, then."
Amidst the falling snow, a white-cloaked figure can be seen perched upon the rooftop of Stone Baths. Across from the figure, stands Puptilian and Dinaden.
Speaking thoughtfully to Cruxophim, you acknowledge, "Good point."
Madmountan exclaims, "To the baths!"
Puptilian's Report
[the group heads over to the baths]
[Stone Baths, Rooftop Garden]
Brass handrails rise up along the edges of the bathhouse's stone rooftop, enclosing a wide flat surface that is mostly dominated by vivid flowerbeds, brightened by the moon's silvery rays. The view from the garden is expansive, revealing the shadowy streets of Wehnimer's Landing and the dark forests beyond the town. You also see a forest wolf, a forest wolf and a wooden hatch.
Also here: Chaoswynd, Sir Cryheart, Dergoatean, Dinaden, Puptilian
The white-cloaked figure perched on the rooftop suddenly leaps off the edge and disappears into a swirl of ethereal mist.
Speaking softly to Puptilian, Chaoswynd says, "I guess they saw your note."
Puptilian says, "Saw him."
Cryheart yells, "Runner!"
You surprisedly say, "Oh. Guess he really did read it."
Madmountan exclaims, "Chase!"
Speaking to Dinaden, Irar asks, "Report?"
Speaking to Puptilian, Ulkov asks, "Get a good look?"
You bemusedly say, "I was just saying maybe he hadn't."
Speaking amusedly to Puptilian, Cruxophim inquires, "Did we scare 'em off?"
Speaking to Madmountan, Ysharra says, "Heh."
Pukk yells, "Stay off this roof, this is my spot!"
Puptilian says, "You won't find him. I was hoping to get him to stop and no with the snow and his cowl no good look."
Speaking to Dinaden, Irar asks, "Did you speak with him?"
Puptilian says, "Well hood."
Puptilian says, "It won't stop."
Speaking offhandedly to Puptilian, you say, "Interesting note you left, by the way. Thought-provoking."
Puptilian says, "He will not stop until he decides the darkness is gone."
Madmountan says, "It might."
You flatly say, "So, never, then."
Madmountan glances at a dark runic lor-hafted sledgehammer in his hand.
Ulkov asks, "The darkness?"
Ulkov bursts out in a sudden snort of laughter.
Irar says, "That is not his decision to make."
Speaking to Irar, Dinaden says, "No, I didn't. I merely stumbled upon a discussion while patrolling...my part was to be vigilant and let things play out."
Speaking wryly to Puptilian, Cruxophim remarks, "No, probably not. Good luck to him, I hope he has several lifetimes."
Speaking to Puptilian, Albanus says, "You should have spikethorned the criminal so we could get ahold of him."
Ulkov asks, "In this town?"
Arnylon says, "It's night. The darkness will stop in several hours."
Ulkov says, "He can't be serious."
Speaking to Dinaden, Irar asks, "A discussion?"
Madmountan says, "He created himself a formidble enemy tonight."
Speaking to Albanus, Puptilian says, "Easy to say but had no good way to attack and was trying to make this all stop."
Speaking to Madmountan, Arnylon says, "He surely did. Those sirenflowers get nasty when trod upon."
Speaking to Irar, Dinaden says, "Yes, although I still haven't any idea who it is."
Speaking to Puptilian, Albanus says, "Spikethorn makes things stop."
Speaking calmly to Puptilian, Cruxophim wonders, "Just out of curiosity... if you had a lethal shot, would you take it?"
Speaking slowly to Puptilian, Cruxophim wonders, "To save lives?"
Dinaden says, "He was perched on the edge, we would have had to move too far through the snow to attack...he would have jumped away easily as he did."
Stormyrain reminds, "Murder is still illegal within the town walls. No matter who the victim is."
Dinaden says, "It was a better play by Puptilian to try and talk him into revealing his identity....I thought."
Speaking to Cruxophim, Puptilian says, "If I thought there was no other way and my life was in danger yes. To do so in cold blood no. Its not my place to be judge and executioner."
Madmountan says, "I'll do it for him."
Madmountan starts chortling.
Speaking calmly to Puptilian, Cruxophim notes, "I see."
Albanus says, "At this point,it's not exactly cold blood."
Albanus says, "3 murders, and 1 attempted."
Stormyrain simply states, "And then he would be arrested for murder."
Ulkov says, "I won't deny.. poofy bastard isn't gonna be easy to catch for the usual violent loveliness we could put on him. Talkin might work better... for now."
Speaking curiously to Albanus, Cruxophim ventures, "So, you would take the shot?"
Speaking to Cruxophim, Albanus says, "I would."
Speaking affably to Albanus, Cruxophim notes, "Interesting."
Speaking to Albanus, Shinann says, "Then, you would be just as guilty as the one doing it."
Speaking to Cruxophim, Albanus says, "Consider it apprehension of a confirmed murderer."
Zosozpage says, "I wouldn't go for a kill shot just yet. Need to find his motives and if he answers to someone else."
Puptilian says, "The Rooks have murdered more than this person and yet many here believe they are good for the town. This person is just like them just a different view from them on what's good or not. Like the Rooks, this person should be captured and tried."
Speaking curiously to Shinann, Cruxophim wonders, "No doubt, but I suppose one -would- save a greater number of lives in doing so, potentially."
Speaking to Zosozpage, Madmountan says, "I think I'm actually okay with that point. I'd like to know what in the hells he attacked me for particularly. Which thing anyway."
Speaking quietly to Puptilian, Pukk says, "Rooks kill imps."
Shinann says, "You cannot see their face... we do not know if the attack in the square was even by the same being."
Shinann says, "Same clothes."
Shinann says, "Same mist."
Shinann shrugs.
Puptilian says, "I will say this about the guy."
Shinann says, "That is all."
Puptilian says, "He is trained and trained very well."
Puptilian says, "He isn't some commoner."
Madmountan says, "It seemed similar. He was trying to use the same gutting technique. Guess it could be a group of em."
Speaking wryly to Puptilian, Cruxophim agrees, "Well, no."
Ulkov says, "That he is not."
Speaking to Madmountan, Ysharra says, "That's an interesting thought. It very well could be."
Pukk quietly says, "I guess Madmountan had more guts than the killer thought."
Pukk appears to be trying hard not to grin.
Puptilian says, "I also do not think he was military trained."
Cryheart says, "Perhaps we hae a different guild of assassins."
Puptilian says, "Either trained on the streets or trained in the arts of assassination but not military training."
Dergoatean exclaims, "It's a golem!"
Speaking to Puptilian, Irar asks, "Why do you say that?"
Speaking to Madmountan, Ysharra says, "A group of adventurers who have found themselves new purpose over taking down kobolds and krolvin."
Dergoatean says, "... probably not."
Speaking idly to Dergoatean, you mention, "They did say they saw a flash of metal."
Balley softly says, "I do find it interesting the murderer is going after only men."
Speaking quietly to Dergoatean, Pukk says, "Madmountan isn't a golem, he is just like that naturally."
You muse, "Golems sealed away, hmm?"
Albanus says, "My question is, if it's a guild, or a league of them, where could they be hiding."
Speaking to Irar, Puptilian says, "His ability to move silently and effortlessly. You don't see knights jump from shadow to shadow."
Lylia admits, "You have a point there."
Cryheart says, "He is definitely mobile."
Albanus says, "One person, easy enough to hide away. A whole group? Probably need some sort of headquarters."
Madmountan asks, "Maybe Breshon brought Gallard's Guardians with him to the outpost. Not just one, but all of em. Who knows?"
Ulkov says, "Well.. I have. But he was drunk, and not at all attempting stealth."
Balley softly says, "I really want to know who the person will be after next."
Speaking to Puptilian, Marijka objects, "My skills are largely defined by my military training, but you don't see me huddling in a nice straight line behind a shield."
Pukk quietly asks, "Maybe we can go to the sewers and ask the Rooks?"
Speaking dubiously to Dergoatean, Cruxophim teases, "It's always golems with you lot."
Madmountan says, "Or he's starting a new chapter of Wehnimer's Guardians."
Balley softly says, "There has to be a pattern here, I am just not seeing it."
Dergoatean says, "Gallard's Guardians are more about race than gender, as I understand it."
Dergoatean says, "But who knows."
Puptilian says, "The way he spoke tonight. This is at the moment a single person."
Madmountan nods at Dergoatean.
Madmountan says, "Thus my...new thought."
Puptilian says, "Not a group."
Cruxophim nonchalantly remarks, "Perhaps he believes he is the night."
Albanus says, "I'd bet on them trying to get Madmountan again."
Speaking to Puptilian, Madmountan says, "I hope you are right. One is perhaps less of a pain."
Albanus says, "Or him..."
Madmountan says, "But easier to get away too..."
Madmountan rubs his chin thoughtfully.
Speaking calmly to Puptilian, Cruxophim agrees, "I would wager that, as well. This feels personal."
Irar says, "The Outpost almost seems a cursed place now. Everyone who visits has some new trouble accompanying them."
Pukk quietly says, "Maybe it was Pup, Pup was frustrated with Madmountan and decided to off him due to Madmountan eating all of the donuts in the bakery."
Pukk quietly says, "It all makes sense."
Speaking to Madmountan, Albanus says, "He hasn't failed before you, so I imagine you'd stick in his craw really nicely."
Madmountan says, "Me and Pup have had our difference, but no...that's not it."
Speaking distractedly to Irar, you say, "Hmm? This isn't the problem of anyone in the Outpost, just our own."
You add, "For those who think it's a problem, of course."
Speaking wryly to Pukk, Cruxophim laments, "I don't see it... alas."
Speaking to Madmountan, Ysharra says, "I hope he isn't gutting people over political disagreements."
Speaking quietly to Cruxophim, Pukk says, "Lack of imagination."
Speaking to Albanus, Madmountan says, "Aye, I wouldn't suspect that I'm immune from further attempts."
Speaking to Ysharra, Lylia says, "Well, it is one negotiation tactic. Usually the last one tried, but effective at times."
Speaking wryly to Pukk, Cruxophim counters, "Exactly."
Albanus says, "If he's trying to remove the darkness, he could be removing criminals, political opponents, Lornon followers..."
Puptilian says, "He simply stated he believes there is corruption from top to bottom and he feels the only way to clean the mess is to bring his own justice."
Speaking thoughtfully to Madmountan, Marijka wonders, "You haven't been feasting excessively recently, have you?"
Puptilian says, "This includes the Rooks and those that support them."
Speaking thoughtfully to Puptilian, you admit, "Well, he's at least half-righ--"
You squint at Puptilian.
Speaking quietly to Madmountan, Pukk asks, "Do you follow V'tull?"
Lylia says, "' 'He,' you say. So you spoke to him."
Speaking to Lylia, Ysharra says, "Well, perhaps it's someone who feels silenced."
Madmountan says, "I ate that roasted boar last night."
You idly say, "Rook supporters, hmm."
Speaking to Pukk, Madmountan asks, "Sort of?"
Speaking to Madmountan, Arnylon says, "Make sure you eat meals that are colorful over the next week or so. That way if the figure does wind up successful in any future attempt, we can pretend it's a party. Oh look at the blues, the greens, the reds."
Speaking to Lylia, Ysharra says, "Someone or someones who feel betrayed."
Speaking quietly to Madmountan, Pukk says, "That must be it then. You ate the donuts and he is mad."
Irar says, "A fine way to cleanse the town of corruption, by ignoring all the laws of the town."
Speaking to Pukk, Puptilian asks, "Hmm?"
Albanus says, "That might be one in-road. We should see if the three past corpses had any religious affiliation."
Speaking to Irar, Puptilian says, "That was my point to him."
Speaking amusedly to Puptilian, Cruxophim notes, "Funny he -- or her -- hasn't shown their face to me, then."
Speaking to Madmountan, Arnylon says, "See, a party."
Speaking quietly to Puptilian, Pukk says, "The gig is up, confess to the murders."
Speaking to Irar, Dinaden says, "Puptilian did an admirable job of trying to convince him of just that."
Marijka states, "Gluttony."
Speaking to Cruxophim, Ysharra says, "Perhaps some recently unemployed militiamen."
Speaking to Pukk, Puptilian says, "Sadly I look horrible in white."
Speaking to Marijka, Ysharra says, "Could be."
Speaking nonchalantly to Ysharra, Cruxophim concedes, "Could be one of them, aye."
Albanus says, "You'd think Cruxophim would be the target for that."
Speaking quietly to Puptilian, Pukk says, "Yeah, you are right."
Marijka agrees, "True."
Speaking to Cruxophim, Albanus says, "You eat a lot."
Speaking to Madmountan, Ysharra says, "You did have quite the binge at the Outpost the last two times we went."
Cruxophim jests, "I suppose I'm not doing my job well enough."
Speaking sympathetically to Cruxophim, you assure, "You've been busy being the mayor."
Balley softly says, "Zoso had the bear."
Balley softly says, "A lot of it."
Balley softly says, "You may want to be careful Zoso."
Zosozpage grins at Balley.
Speaking amusedly to you, Cruxophim explains, "I meant in terms of being corrupt."
Speaking quietly to Cruxophim, Pukk says, "That's okay. I say you appoint me in charge of the town coffers for safe keeping."
Speaking to Cruxophim, Ysharra asks, "That's true. We are a handful for you, aren't we?"
Speaking to Cruxophim, Albanus asks, "Can we see if any of the previous victims worshipped Lornon?"
Irar asks, "He wears white. I wonder what the significance of that is?"
Speaking suddenly to Cruxophim, you admit, "Oh. Well, yes, you've sometimes been a little disappointing on that front..."
Speaking affably to Pukk, Cruxophim jests, "DONE! That should lure him out."
Speaking to Irar, Albanus says, "Purity, probably."
Pukk quietly asks, "Wait...what??"
Speaking to Irar, Arnylon says, "It may be something as simple as camouflage since it's snowing."
Pukk quietly exclaims, "I decline!"
Pukk gasps in terrified panic, trembling and flailing his arms about!
Irar says, "Perhaps."
Speaking thoughtfully to Albanus, Cruxophim suggests, "Maybe try the Militia, they might be able to get that information... but I suspect it's based in morality, not religion."
Speaking to Cruxophim, Albanus says, "You never know with these crazy types."
You amusedly mention, "Poor Hap. He leaves for a couple weeks and suddenly someone shows up doing all the things he's wanted to do for ages."
Speaking to Cruxophim, Lylia says, "At least this one acknowledges there is a difference between morality and religion."
Lylia continues, "So clearly not a lost Blameless."
Puptilian says, "No not a Blameless."
Ysharra says, "Crazy is a somewhat useless term in this case. He seems to act quite rationally."
Puptilian says, "If anything this is someone that calls this place home."
Speaking absently to Albanus, Cruxophim reports, "By the way, autopsy did not reveal any signs of foul play beyond the obvious, you know...disembowelment and hand-cutting-off and such."
Zosozpage says, "I think we may see it again tonight."
Ysharra says, "The problem is, we don't know his agenda."
Puptilian says, "Not an outsider."
Pukk quietly exclaims, "It's Happy?!"
Madmountan says, "Yeah, I mean, I'm kind of okay with being attacked for my prior deeds. More so than my "religion"."
Speaking to Cruxophim, Albanus says, "Obviously."
Xorus says, "I was not aware Hapenlok could fog in that way."
Madmountan says, "I'd just like to know which one offends him."
(OOC) Cruxophim's player whispers to the group, "I assume, heh.... just gonna guess that, Kenstrom can agree or no if he wants."
Madmountan asks, "Ones?"
Speaking to Puptilian, Lylia says, "Agreed. Has to be. No one from outside the town would know so much, so quickly."
Speaking wryly to Albanus, Cruxophim inquires, "Happy now?"
Speaking flatly to Cruxophim, Albanus says, "No."
Speaking to Stormyrain, Puptilian says, "Hate to say this Captain but if it was me I would first look at those that quit not too long ago."
Speaking to Puptilian, Stormyrain says, "Mhm."
Cruxophim wryly reasons, "This invidual didn't mouth off enough for Hap."
Speaking curiously to Puptilian, you ask, "Are you confident he's not really a ghost?"
Speaking to Cruxophim, Albanus says, "We still have a killer running lose."
(OOC) Cruxophim's player whispers to the group, "Oh, good... apparently no poison, then."
Dinaden says, "He is no ghost."
Ulkov amusedly asks, "Wait... waitwaitwait.. am I hearing the talk that the angry little furrball might be involved?"
Ulkov blinks.
Ulkov throws back his head and roars with laughter!
Albanus says, "This isn't flamboyant enough for Hapenlok."
Madmountan says, "Oh that guy."
You bemusedly say, "No, just saying he'll be mad when he hears about someone actually killing people off the way he's wanted to."
Zosozpage says, "If it was Hap I'd think there'd be some fire involved."
Lylia says, "He would never be able to remain silent about it. He would hint darkly. He would whisper. He would strut. He would leave little notes. 'Guess what I did...'."
Pukk quietly says, "Plus the killer would be really short."
Albanus says, "My estimation is that Hapenlok would have burned his targets."
Ulkov says, "I agree with all these assesments."
Madmountan says, "And Hapenlok obeys the...um...gentleman's agreemant to not attack people in town square, unlike the White Ghost."
Stormyrain proclaims, "It's ..so good."
You seriously repeat, "But we're sure now that he's not a ghost?"
Speaking wryly to Madmountan, Cruxophim admits, "He has learned to control himself, by and large."
Arnylon says, "I'm baffled. Hopefully with each attack we find out more. But so far it seems we're almost at where we were when we were at the beginning."
Zosozpage says, "Of course if he's gone mad all bets are off what he'd do."
Speaking to Stormyrain, Albanus asks, "Excuse me, Captain. Can you find out if the three other dead bodies had any religious affiliations, specifically Lornon?"
Puptilian says, "Some call him the white ghost others like myself call him the white shadow. Either way he needs to be caught before he kills others."
Cruxophim affably suggests, "Clearly, we should all sin greatly and travel around in a disorganized mob in order to lure him out."
Madmountan says, "I have an idea."
Shinann says, "Town guards took them."
Speaking to Albanus, Stormyrain says, "I can put in an inquiry, most certainly. And that's a good question."
Speaking to Arnylon, Lylia says, "Ah, then the solution has already presented itself. We wait for more to be murdered."
Shinann says, "Not the militia."
Speaking to Cruxophim, Arnylon says, "Too late."
Madmountan asks, "Maybe if he wants to kill me, we can use me as bait?"
Speaking thoughtfully to Cruxophim, you praise, "That's a very good idea, actually."
Speaking to Cruxophim, you suggest, "You go first."
Irar says, "I think it's fairly obvious from where this new visitor has originated. Perhaps we should direct more inquiries there."
Speaking affably to you, Cruxophim agrees, "Okay!"
Madmountan says, "Set me up somewhere, "alone" in town away from y'all."
Speaking to Lylia, Arnylon says, "Wow did you twist what was said. Very good job of it, too."
Goldstr says, "I toughts da commomality was da abused womenfolk but wid da attack on Madmountain."
Speaking to Madmountan, Ulkov asks, "So.. what. You wanna stand in town square and start cat calling the ladies?"
Madmountan says, "See if he comes out to get me."
Mayor Cruxophim just climbed down a long rope.
Speaking carefully to Irar, Marijka asks, "Is it, though?"
Speaking to Goldstr, Albanus says, "Two more possibilities exist."
Speaking to Irar, Marijka says, "I distrust solutions which are entirely too clear and straightforward."
Speaking to Marijka, Irar says, "Seems a good starting point, at least."
Speaking to Goldstr, Albanus says, "Lornon worship, or sin against Koar."
Speaking to Marijka, Ysharra says, "I think you were closer to the mark on gluttony."
Madmountan says, "In fact, I'mma go wander around and see if he tries again."
Speaking to Marijka, Irar says, "And I don't believe in coincidences."
Madmountan cracks his knuckles!
A cloud of dense silvery fog suddenly appears. The fog quickly dissipates to reveal Cruxophim.
Madmountan says, "Come find me if you feel me die."
Madmountan starts chortling.
Speaking to Madmountan, Arnylon says, "It seems all you need do is remain in town square central."
Speaking to Marijka, Ysharra says, "Or Madmountan may be connected to his identity in some way we don't know."
Cruxophim regretfully admits, "Sadly, no luck."
Speaking bemusedly to Cruxophim, you assure, "I don't even want to know."
Ulkov says, "Heh."
Puptilian says, "I will say this again. Its not about religion. Its about one person's view on right or wrong to this town."
Zosozpage says, "So now we all need to start stealing."
Speaking aloofly to you, Cruxophim agrees, "You probably do not."
Shinann asks, "So, we become the Empire and persecute based on religion?"
Shinann shakes her head.
Lylia says, "I believe I shall have some tea. It seems women are safe on the town's streets, at least from this particular murderer."
Albanus asks, "Lust, wrath, greed...what was Madmountan's...pride?"
Speaking disagreeably to Albanus, Cruxophim muses, "I really do not think religion had anything to do with this."
Cryheart says, "The deadly sins."
Zosozpage says, "Was just thinking that."
Speaking to Cruxophim, Stormyrain says, "It's worth the inquiry."
Speaking to Cruxophim, Albanus says, "Not a bad idea to explore every option."
Speaking to Lylia, Irar says, "Try not to be the first."
Lylia admits, "I hardly feel too frightened walking the streets myself, though."
Cruxophim affably remarks, "Of course."
Puptilian says, "Madmountan it is well known ran with a certain group that caused trouble to this town. This is someone that knows the history of the town."
Lylia says, "Somehow, I am rarely accosted."
Lylia says, "Take care, all."
You diplomatically say, "We'll see more as he attacks more, but if you want to catch him I'm not sure his motives matter for now. The best way to get him would probably be to catch him in the act."
Rendena softly says, "That's when your friends affect your reputation."
Speaking thoughtfully to Puptilian, Cruxophim remarks, "Right, but it does break the pattern of transgressions against women, specifically... so that's something."
Puptilian says, "Oh I think those were a start."
Puptilian says, "He sees evil everywhere and started somewhere. I don't think it's a pattern yet."
Speaking affably to Stormyrain, Cruxophim requests, "Let me know if you find any patterns in the Arkati inquires?"
Puptilian says, "I doubt you find a religious slant."
You mention, "Even if you do, four targets might not be enough for a conclusion."
Stormyrain says, "Mayhaps not, but again it is worth the inquiry."
Albanus says, "Well. Who else amongst us has a checkered past."
You nonchalantly admit, "But it can't hurt to find out."
Puptilian says, "My opinion. It will be Rook followers, lich and Cross followers. Those that do questionable deeds."
Speaking worriedly to Albanus, Pukk says, "I am a model citizen."
Speaking stubbornly to Puptilian, Cruxophim disagrees, "My deeds aren't questionable!"
Puptilian shrugs.
Puptilian says, "I am just giving an opinion."
Puptilian says, "It's why I think this guy is from the Landing."
Stormyrain says, "I will still put out the inquiry, to rule it out if nothing else."
Albanus says, "I'd have to agree, he seems to know too much to be an outsider."
Puptilian says, "It's also why I gave suggestions on where to start to look."
Speaking amusedly to Puptilian, Cruxophim admits, "I find myself, once again, in the questionable position of agreeing with you."
Arnylon says, "From the Landing now, or possibly in the past may be a possibility."
You pointedly say, "I haven't publicly supported the Rooks since last campaign season and I turned against them after Rysus threatened Reannah, proving many of you were right all along. Should be safe."
Marshal Madmountan's group just climbed up a long rope.
Madmountan says, "No luck. He ain't takin' the bait."
Speaking to Madmountan, Arnylon says, "Still in one piece I see."
Speaking to you, Dergoatean says, "Some vigilantes may not be real big on personal growth c.f. forgiveness."
Madmountan says, "I went all around town, yelin' out insults an everything. Bastard didn't want round two."
Speaking distantly to Dergoatean, you admit, "Possible..."
Cruxophim affably states, "Pardon me, I am going to go find some infants to wear as shoes in the hopes of luring this individual out."
Speaking to Madmountan, Ulkov says, "Didn't try cat calls, though...."
Speaking to Cruxophim, Dergoatean exclaims, "Doing the important work!"
Speaking to Madmountan, Arnylon says, "I still think town square is your best bet."
Speaking to Ulkov, Madmountan says, "Yer right, I didn't find any ladies to harass."
Speaking to Stormyrain, Puptilian says, "You could also be working with a real crazy of a person that will not follow any real pattern."
Pukk quietly says, "I know, we will start a rumor that Goat kicks the small kitten and wait for the killer to strike."
Stormyrain says, "True enough."
Pukk nods enthusiastically!
Speaking thoughtfully to Stormyrain, Cruxophim reports, "As I said earlier, the autopsies didn't reveal any further clues beyond the rather obvious causes of death."
Stormyrain says, "Thank you."
Stormyrain says, "I wish we could find the body of the wife."
Albanus says, "The way he moved. Makes me think Rogue, trained in unarmed and bladed combat."
Ulkov says, "Well, is as I was commenting to Mad while we walked.. his operation changed. He was secretive, purposeful. Punishment matched he crime. Now? No indication of the crime.. publicly attacked.."
Stormyrain says, "She deserves a proper burial."
Madmountan says, "Can always give some of y'all ladies a black eye, and see if that gets his attention."
Madmountan snickers.
Speaking to Cruxophim, Shinann says, "Those town clerks need some new clothes. Fraying tunics on them."
Puptilian says, "He was very level headed. Seem to know exactly what he was doing and for whatever reasons they hold true to his heart. Just because he seems in control does not mean he really is in control of himself."
Puptilian says, "Stating he is doing this for justice in this matter holds weight he isn't in control."
Speaking gently to Stormyrain, Cruxophim offers, "I will look around for it on my nightly constitutional."
Speaking to Cruxophim, Stormyrain says, "I've put out...inquiries."
Rendena softly says, "Very doubtful."
Speaking quietly to Evia, Pukk asks, "What about you Dame, do you have any ideas?"
Cryheart says, "Certainly dinnae sound like a typical Rook."
Ulkov says, "Ain't no Rook."
Speaking to Cryheart, Madmountan says, "I can guarantee he ain't that."
Albanus says, "I'd give it very slim margins he's a Rook."
Speaking to Cryheart, Madmountan says, "They don't pack that kinda punch."
Cryheart says, "Aye."
Puptilian says, "Rooks work in groups."
Puptilian says, "This one works alone."
Goldstr says, "Donna toss off da controlled idea jess yet."
Speaking calmly to Puptilian, Cruxophim agrees, "He or she seems more than in control of their faculties, I agree. This was a calculated, premeditated act... or acts, rather."
Bernadette softly says, "One of the first were a Rook."
Speaking to Bernadette, Puptilian asks, "You mean the murdered?"
Zosozpage says, "If he's a serial killer then things will just escalate."
Bernadette softly says, "Aye."
Cruxophim absently ponders, "Aye, no... this seems more then work of a lone individual, as the former Mayor said, the Rooks would have made their manifesto known publicly."
Pukk quietly says, "We keep treading around the idea that we already suspect who it actually is. Who is good with bow and blade, loves to hunt, was out hunting when the last murder happened...."
Speaking to Bernadette, Puptilian says, "He told us the Rooks are also his targets."
Speaking to Zosozpage, Albanus says, "More than a serial killer. Serial killers generally prefer to work in secret, not attacking someone in the middle of a crowd."
Bernadette softly says, "Ahh."
Cryheart says, "It is tempting to jump to a possible conclusion...."
Speaking absently to Bernadette, Cruxophim reminds, "The Rooks are somewhat fractured, and dispersing. Being a Rook does not mean a Rook did it, but regardless, I suspect this is the act of an individual rather than a faction."
Arnylon asks, "Throwing something out there. What if the killer, or killers, have such a self-loathing of themselves that they are doing or have done recently the very thing they are killing, or in the case of Madmountan, attempting to kill others for?"
Cryheart says, "But I think there is more to learn yet."
Speaking amusedly to Albanus, Cruxophim disagrees, "Not necessarily true."
Speaking to Albanus, Zosozpage says, "Generally, yes."
Pukk quietly says, "Maybe more to learn but you still don't give up on suspects..."
Speaking to Albanus, Zosozpage says, "But not nec..."
Zosozpage says, "What he said."
You thoughtfully muse, "Easy to say he's after the Rooks, but until we see him kill a couple, it could be him trying to mislead."
Madmountan says, "He killed one."
Pukk quietly says, "Although Happy being the suspect seems to have something to it too."
Madmountan shrugs.
Speaking to Cruxophim, Albanus says, "I really don't want to hear you regale me with stories of how you killed people."
Puptilian says, "All we know at this point is motive. We can guess on everything else and sound right but with little knowledge of the person or evidence we will only jump to conclusions."
Speaking curiously to Arnylon, Cruxophim speculates, "That would imply a certain degree of insanity and emotional investment that these heinous acts do not indicate."
Madmountan says, "But it didn't seem like it was because he was a Rook, per se."
You say, "Right."
You nod at Madmountan.
Evia says, "I have the idea that being a Rook was co-incidental, a Rook after all, is a person."
Speaking calmly to Albanus, Cruxophim chides, "You were factually incorrect, I was merely amending that."
Pukk quietly asks, "Would a Rook kill a Rook?"
Madmountan says, "Maybe he thought that crown brand on my neck was a Rook symbol."
Cruxophim nonchalantly reminds, "And I haven't killed anyone who did not deserve it."
Puptilian says, "If this person was a Rook he is not part of that group anymore. I honestly do not believe he is a Rook but one that hates the Rooks."
Speaking to Cruxophim, Arnylon says, "I figured since everyone else was leaping to attempted conclusions that matched their ideas, I would as well."
Speaking to Cruxophim, Albanus says, "Wouldn't be the first time, on either account."
Speaking idly to Puptilian, you say, "A former Rook... that's possible, yes."
Madmountan says, "Just trying to engage in a little confirmation bias."
Madmountan says, "I have been buddy buddy with Stephos in the past."
You thoughtfully muse, "So watch out for Kayse. Got it."
Zosozpage says, "There's still not enough clues to determine who it is or where it came from."
Albanus says, "I do not think anyone should assume they are safe, regardless of their past deeds, religion, and whatever else might or might not be tied into this killer's pattern."
Speaking thoughtfully to you, Cruxophim opines, "I don't think so.... this seems like the work of someone taken to the final straw by the presence of the Rooks, which is odd, given that their presence has diminished significantly as of late."
Arnylon says, "I'll be coming up with wild theories and formulating baseless accusations."
Speaking to Arnylon, Madmountan says, "Please do."
Speaking curiously to Cruxophim, you say, "I agree, they haven't done very much for almost two years now."
Speaking to Arnylon, Madmountan says, "Between you and Pukk, it's never a dull moment."
Speaking to Madmountan, Arnylon says, "Someone in the group has to be serious."
You offhandedly say, "Well, other than that very ill-advised attack on the outpost that didn't go well for them at all."
Speaking wryly to you, Cruxophim reminds, "Well, after the monumental failure that was the Outpost assault..."
Cruxophim looks thoughtful for a moment, then shrugs.
Speaking to you, Puptilian asks, "The Rooks?"
You grin crookedly at Cruxophim.
Cruxophim starts chuckling at you!
Speaking to Cruxophim, you say, "Great minds."
Cruxophim nods to you.
You nod at Cruxophim.
Puptilian says, "Well the last few times they tried anything they have taken heavy loses."
Puptilian says, "This isn't that big of a town. They can't bring in new people that easily."
Speaking gently to Albanus, Cruxophim assures, "Don't worry, I'm sure you're safe. That thing you did in my office isn't something I think this culprit would be concerned about, specifically."
Shinann says, "Yes and Jellybeard told a group that the Rooks did not sign up to be soldiers."
Madmountan says, "Yeah, the Deaths at the Outpost probably hurt the recruitment drive."
Speaking to Cruxophim, Albanus says, "I would not assume anyone is safe."
Speaking confidently to Albanus, you say, "I'm safe."
Speaking absently to Puptilian, Cruxophim agrees, "They've been hemorrhaging for a while now, yes."
Cruxophim conjures an insult to the gods almost potent enough to invoke their wrath.
Cruxophim glances expectantly around the area.
Cruxophim frowns.
Speaking to Cruxophim, Albanus says, "Cute."
Puptilian says, "Two years of it at least in my estimation. Included the outpost attack this year that is three."
Cruxophim blasphemes the gods with righteous anger!
Cruxophim raises his articulated gauntlets heavenward in triumph.
Speaking sympathetically to Cruxophim, you soothe, "Good try."
Cruxophim holds up two fingers and slowly pinches them together until they are almost touching.
Speaking to Cruxophim, Albanus says, "If you really want to offend the Gods, have Leafiara start a commune with the wrong one."
You offer, "You first. It's your idea, after all."
Speaking to you, Albanus says, "You're the one that thinks they're safe."
Cruxophim affably enthuses, "What could go wrong?!"
Puptilian says, "Well despite the face you want to give to the crowd, a few know why they may or may not be on the list. I wouldn't walk around alone until we catch this person."
Puptilian shrugs.
Puptilian just climbed down a long rope.
You say, "Not that Mad was alone... but I know what you mean."
Albanus says, "Somehow, I don't think even pairing up would be sufficient with what happened."
Cruxophim affably states, "Sage advice, but I don't mind attempting to draw him out."
