The STARE verb allows a character to stare in various ways. This verb is also used as an item script trap, in some cases.
Usage
>help stare Usage: STARE - Stares at nothing in particular STARE {self} - Stares unfocused into the distance STARE {target} - Stares at a target STARE {direction} - Stares in a direction STARE SET [option] - Shows or sets the STARE verb options available.

WAVEDANCER WEDDING - You stare at (Character), folding your arms expectantly across your chest. STANDARD - You stare at (Character). DARK ELVEN - You shoot (Character) a prolonged stare, doing your best to unnerve him/her. AELOTOI - Standing perfectly still, you fully extend your wings and eye (Character) cautiously. Self target: STANDARD - Your eyes glaze over as you stare, unfocused, into the distance. DARK ELVEN - You turn your head slightly to the side and stare purposefully off into the distance. Object targets: STANDARD - You stare at (object). DARK ELVEN - You stare intently at the (target), silently noting its position and potential uses. AELOTOI - You fully extend your wings and eye (target) cautiously. Creature targets: STANDARD - You stare at (creature). DARK ELVEN - You stare incredulously at (target), wondering how it has been allowed to remotely be in your presence. AELOTOI - Standing perfectly still, you fully extend your wings and eye (target) cautiously. Directional targets: You stare (direction). NOTE: ONLY first person messaging is listed unless it differs substantially from other versions. Wedding messaging will only work with your spouse, all other targets default to standard messaging. Messaging without an option shown applies to all options. Special scripts and areas may override listed messaging.
