Traiva (prime)/Answering the Summons
Maeyrilla rushed in, as much as the half-elf ever rushed, with a peacock-adorned envelope clasped in her hand. Traiva looked up from her knitting, her eyebrow arching at the grim expression on her Secretary's face. "You do not need to look so worried," she nearly laughed, which turned Maeyrilla's expression into a scowl.
"It can't be anything good," Maeyrilla replied, handing the envelope over to Traiva's outstretched hand. "The last one charged you with murder."
Traiva flicked the envelope dismissively. "Get my writing box, if you would; I am sure this will need a reply." Maeyrilla sighed, still puzzling at how Traiva seemed completely unaffected by being a murder suspect, and obediently left for the manor's office.
Alone again in her nook, Traiva opened the envelope to retrieve the paper and scan the contents. "On behalf of the Inquisitors of the Sapphire Guard, your presence is requested at the Hall of Justice on the fourteenth day of Charlatos at nine in the evening elven time." Tilamaires, then - just four days away. She had heard the questionings would begin as early as the coming Feastday, and hoped to have hers done and over with then, but so be it. She knew she had nothing to do with Kasendra Malwind's death, having left the Farewell Gala long before the body was found, and even the murmurings of possible torture had no effect on her after what she had known under the Overseers on Bre'Naere.
So the question remained: Who was responsible? She did not want to believe it was one from Ta'Vaalor, and she could not see a motive for the Loenthran artist. Blaming one from Ta'Nalfein was too easy, so that eliminated the guests of honor. She mentally ran down the list of others who had been named, many of whom she knew, and again was at a loss for motive. The fear nagged at her that it was someone still not suspect, hiding in plain sight.
It wasn't until Maeyrilla cleared her throat that Traiva noticed her return. She put her knitting in the basket beside her chair and took the portable writing box, setting it across her lap. Pulling free a gilt-edged pale green paper and an ebon swan quill, she began to write.
Lord Seneschal Ghaeriden,
I received the summons for Tilamaires, 14 Charlatos, and will be sure to answer promptly.
I hope the Inquisitors and Sapphire Guard are able to determine Lady Malwind's murderer quickly, and bring them to swift justice ~ this has been truly a harsh blow for the Turamzzyrian Empire and the Elven Nations, particularly the Illistim.
Respectfully,
~ Lady Traiva Verethundi ~
