Title: The Table Legs
Author:
Lilybriscoe says, "The table legs were funny."
Lilybriscoe chuckles.
Muthra begins chuckling at Lilybriscoe!
Jersea asks, "How so?"
Jersea peers quizzically at Lilybriscoe.
Muthra says, "Tell her the story."
Lilybriscoe rubs her chin thoughtfully.
Lilybriscoe says, "Well, it all started with a Restling named Vindartin."
"He used to carry around one of those table legs you find on a critter from time to time."
"It wasn't really a weapon, more of a signature item."
Lilybriscoe grins.
Lilybriscoe says, "Then it occured to him that we really needed tables on the island, so he began to petition the town elders, Torre officials, anyone he could get to sit still long enough to ask."
Lilybriscoe smiles.
Jersea asks, "No tables at all?"
Muthra shakes his head.
Lilybriscoe says, "His requests fell on thorny ground, though, and we were told we'd have no tables."
Muthra says, "Well there were tables in the inn."
Lilybriscoe shakes her head.
Muthra says, "But not sittin tables."
Lilybriscoe nods to Muthra.
Muthra says, "The Stone Eye, I mean."
Lilybriscoe says, "Right. You could look at em, but the managers wouldn't let ya sits."
"So Vin decided to mount a protest."
"An epic, grand, emptyheaded gesture of the kind so beloved by his neighbors."
Muthra says, "You had to order and hang out around them."
Muthra nods.
Lilybriscoe says, "He started asking us all collect the table legs that we found out in the wilds."
Muthra says, "No sittin’ and leanin’ and slammin’ ya ale on the tops."
Lilybriscoe says, "Soon he had two legs, then four, then sixteen."
Lilybriscoe asks, "By the time he finished, he had...I forget the exact number. 215 or so?"
Lilybriscoe exclaims, "He could hardly move!"
Lilybriscoe asks, "So we all gathered...I forget, I think on the old pier?"
Muthra says, "Yes the old pier I think."
Lilybriscoe says, "And Vin dropped the legs one by one."
Lilybriscoe exclaims, "We raised our voices to the sky, to the fleet Captain, to the very wind and weather!"
Lilybriscoe raises her fist defiantly.
"And before long, we saw a sign."
"The legs, en masse, disappeared."
Lilybriscoe exclaims, "And a voice let it be known that any people so determined to have tables would have tables!"
Lilybriscoe says, "It took about a week, if I remember, and the Stone Eye and Inn both opened tables for us."
Lilybriscoe grins.
Lilybriscoe says, "And in the Eye, we found Vin's legs as a permanent testimony to our determination and quirky communal spirit."
