A shrouded figure broke from the shadows haunting the main corridor of the island’s town hall. The figure eased the bamboo door at the end of the hall open and slipped silently inside. With a cursory glance over one freshly-scarred shoulder, they placed two items on the simple wooden desk to one side of the room. The figure lingered for only a moment, then retraced their steps as silently as they came.

On the wooden desk, you see: a sheet of ivory papyrus paper, a brass Mist Harbor militia badge

In Common language, the paper reads:

Miss Zofiya,

I regret to inform you that I must step down as the leader of the militia in Mist Harbor, effective immediately. Though I know there are serious threats to the town, I fear there is a far greater threat to the world as we know it. The recent discovery of a new hive of kiramon, these far more dangerous than the others seen previously, must be dealt with swiftly. I cannot help but give this situation all of my attention - I have seen what they can do if left unchecked, and I would prefer not to lose another home. If they succeed, the problems here will be of little consequence.

I hereby hand over leadership of the militia, and wish you all the best. I may be able to help a bit here and there in the future, but I cannot, _will not_, risk having my attention divided any more than necessary.

Please be safe,
