Custom Nightmares are a type of advanced spell customization that offer a unique nightmare as experienced when casting Nightmare Curse upon another player or by eating a black essence rose. Only the target of the nightmare experiences the unique messaging. Fully custom nightmares are a rare service occasionally offered at festivals or pay events. They are a delayed service when the player is writing their own. A character can only have one nightmare type at a given time.

To access a custom nightmare, use PREP 715 then CURSE {TARGET} NIGHTMARE 99 to cast the spell, or use ILLUSION ROSE 99 to make a black essence rose with the custom nightmare.

When creating a custom nightmare, the following items are required:

  • The opening paragraph to the Nightmare. Try to keep it succinct (i.e. < 300 characters), although it can be longer.
  • The second paragraph to the Nightmare. Try to keep it succinct (i.e. < 300 characters), although it can be longer.
  • A generic word (one word) that will work for the various pre-set damage messaging that follows

Certain subject matter that is truly horrific will not be allowed as a custom nightmare.

In the following example of a custom nightmare, the opening paragraph, second paragraph, and generic word for damage messaging are all italicized:

Holding you in his gaze, Strath utters a foul curse upon you in Elven.
