The ironwood tree is named for its tough heartwood. It is a wood that is perfect for making shields and certain types of weapons, though the hardness of the material is twinned with substantial weight. The inner bark of the ironwood tree has long been utilized for manufacturing nets, ropes, and the like - though the process is long and arduous. The very toughness of this tree curtails the available quantity and, hence, makes ironwood quite expensive.
