Yes, I'm looking to get rid of "basic mechanics" entirely and have the mechanics categories be Combat, Character, Item, and Town. I'm only looking at mechanics right now. [[User:VANKRASN39|VANKRASN39]] ([[User talk:VANKRASN39|talk]]) 14:55, 11 October 2016 (CDT)

This category was a dumping ground, rather than having a comprehensive progression from New Player, to Basic, to Advanced. I hope that is an agreeable goal. VANKRASN39 (talk) 00:49, 11 February 2015 (CST)

Some of the pages now listed in the top of the category aren't even in the category. I wouldn't call cobbling basic mechanics. I don't think so much effort should be taken to preserve the old play.net website, it still needs to make sense within the Wiki. The old play.net navigation is already preserved here. VANKRASN39 (talk) 23:42, 3 October 2016 (CDT)

Also propose splitting off combat mechanics pages into their own category and merging a whole bunch of pages (see individual talk pages). VANKRASN39 (talk) 10:10, 4 October 2016 (CDT)
Organizing combat mechanics would be good. I feel with the way the category is set up right now it inevitably becomes a dumping ground because everything in the game is either mechanics or lore, and "basic" is subjective (and even if it's winnowed, "advanced" mechanics is definitely a dumping ground). For instance cobbling isn't really a basic mechanic but there's nowhere else to present the article so it ends up under Basic Mechanics > Artisan Skills, and without highlighting it a new player won't even know that artisan skills exist. We can try to keep the articles that are reachable directly from the sidebar (or even one sublevel down) detailed systems-level guides instead of isolated concepts, and move the smaller concepts into their own categories that aren't necessarily part of the sidebar category tree. Category:Combat Mechanics moved. Do we agree on Item Mechanics, Town Mechanics, and Character Mechanics for the remaining pages? VANKRASN39 (talk) 23:00, 5 October 2016 (CDT)
If we have an opportunity to change the sidebar we can also take a moment to review how the overall tree should be organized (is "Mechanics" replacing "Basic Mechanics" on the side?). For reference, the current top-level tree is listed below. What would it look like after the change and should anything else be moved? ZHOUY1 (talk) 16:39, 10 October 2016 (CDT)
