I'm presenting this information OOC to catch anyone that is interested up on Daenamaryllis's growth as a character and why she is the way she currently is. If you look at Daena and are familiar with the arkati, I haven't been subtle about Daena's role model arkati.

I created Daena in January of 2019. She's been a favorite and I've enjoyed the hybrid nature of empaths quite a bit.

I assume there are lots of little villages throughout the world and Daena grew up from one such village located somewhere between Wehnimer's Landing and Solhaven. She came of age to marry and rather than being forced into marriage she ran away to Wehnimer's Landing. She had a talent for healing and managed to earn coin as an adventurer. Around the same time, a pair of twins named Heliantha and Roseantha showed up in Wehnimer's Landing, and Daena ended up forming a party with them to take on tasks from the guild.

Daena met Leiana during 2019 and the innkeeper's daughter turned adventurer made a huge impression on Daena as she believed that Leiana was just like her in being born to one life, but wanting something entirely different. Everyone liked Leiana too and while Daena had the companionship of the twins, she wanted the same level of attention that Leiana received from nearly everyone. Leiana had also awakened to some fairly fantastical powers and Daena became convinced that the way to get what you wanted out of life was by having power. Leiana was well-liked because of her strength of character and she was genuinely fun to be around. Daena was blinded to the fact that Leiana's personality was what won people over and not Leiana's power.

Throughout the course of events/storylines throughout 2019 - 2020, Daena's admiration for Leiana turned to jealousy. She felt that Leiana was wasting her power and squandered it. Leiana had the power to rule and protect all of Wehnimer's Landing, but she seemed to be more interested in silly adventurers and her new husband, Jaired. Daena tried to point out Leiana's flaws to various people and of course, this in turn ostracized Daena from many in the community of Wehnimer's Landing. Things came to a head when Leiana had enough of Daena's jealousy and attacked her on the Muse. Daena retaliated and Jaired very promptly ended that scuffle by beheading Daena. Those present thought Leiana was in the right for attacking Daena and no one thought much of her death. Her corpse was animated by Berbels and paraded around and generally mocked. Bottom line, something in Daena snapped as a result of this incident.

Daena spent the next two months re-inventing herself into a "power by any and all means" individual. She used the mentalist aspects of the empathic arts to turn the twins into obedient servants prior to Ebon Gate 2020. During Ebon Gate she hired a porter, Phocosoen the Giantman Bard, as she was interested in him as a test subject. She ended up using alchemy and the empathic arts to transform him into a minotaur (Yes this is the bloodrune minotaur cloak, but I thought it was a neat RP to justify wearing it going forward so cut me some slack). While successful at transforming Phocosen, she wasn't able to enslave him like the twins (My personal take is that allowing an empath to heal you repeatedly over years leaves you susceptible to mind control from them if you also trust them).

Leiana worked with others to bring down Oreena Januth. Daena sought to hinder her efforts and used the twins to do so, but in the end, Oreena was doomed by her failure and whatever organization she worked for was going to kill her off either way. Daena provided Leiana with the proof she needed to have Oreena arrested and an uneasy truce was formed between the two.

Daena is still obsessed with Leiana and delights in what she perceives as tormenting Leiana. It is not enough to simply kill her and be done with it. Daena wants to see Leiana brought low and feel the ridicule and scorn of those who used to revere her. She wants to see the look on Jaired's face when this happens.
