The Animal Companion brush is a grooming tool used with ranger animal companions. It can be made as either a brush or comb, with different messaging for each. Avian, canine, rodent, and feline companions also each produce type-specific grooming results.

Brush

The brush uses its soft bristles to groom an animal companion. PINCH removes the material left behind by the most recently groomed companion.

Additional information

Brushes and combs can be used by a ranger on their own companion. Characters who the ranger has BEFRIENDed can also use a brush or comb on the companion. The companion must be sitting or lying down; avians cannot be flying.

The item remembers the type of companion most recently groomed. This determines the material removed with PINCH. PINCH cleans the tool and clears the stored companion type. Using it again produces: “But your grooming brush is clean already!”

A feline companion with higher affinity may begin to purr. The chance is higher when groomed by its owner than by a befriended character.

Brushes and combs can be dyed.
