Alaein Illistim was the post-Lanenreat Argent Mirror who ruled when the gnomes were first officially encountered. The Council of Thrones wanted to evict the gnomes from the imperial forests and borderlands, fearing that allowing them to immigrate freely would set a precedent, which Alaein found unconvincing but turned out to be correct. He allowed the gnomes to remain, curious to see what would happen.

Alaein assumed the Peacock Throne in -6,088 Modern Era (43,019 Illistim) and presumably abdicated in -5,875 Modern Era (43,232 Illistim). He ruled for 213 years.

On either side of the polished copper arch leading into the chamber are two tall displays, each fronted with glass. Their copper fittings match the trim on several cases, whose contents are clothing both modern and historical. A square tile is inset into the floor in the center of the room.

>look diadem
The small crown has a lacy surface of pierced gold openwork. Affixed to the aureate background are a multitude of pearls, glass beads and enamel blossoms. A line of serrated gold leaves marks the diadem's top edge. Next to the piece is a small plaque.

>read diadem
In the Common language, it reads:
When Argent Mirror Alaein allowed the gnomish peoples to remain within the boundaries of the Illistim empire, this diadem was presented as a gift for his young bride. The floral motif and use of pierced metalwork caught on as a trend, taking on political connotations. Those who supported Alaein's decision wore similar openwork brooches and pins, while those who opposed his choice bucked the fashion and assumed a more spare aesthetic.
