The Winter War (storyline)/2022-12-10 - Icemule: Councillor Sorlu Jae'kym Nalfein - Ta'Vaalor Delegation Interviews (log)
[Ancient Keep, Office - 24459]
Long, twisting veins of mithril and rhimar entwine around each other across the circular room's ceiling. Several rectangular cubbyholes line the walls, each containing an intricately carved ice sculpture within. Presiding over the center of the office is a large mahogany chair cushioned with rich leather, with an elegant mahogany desk behind it. Framed with etched rhimar, an oak-bound door leads back out.
Obvious exits: none
Elliathe
You see Lady Elliathe the Voln Master.
She appears to be a Half-Elf from Hendor.
She is short. She appears to be youthful. She has thick-lashed violet eyes and alabaster skin. She has waist length, ringleted blue-black hair wrapped in an intricately looping pattern around a pair of crossed rib bones tied with sinew. She has a delicate face, a small nose and slightly pointed ears.
She is in good shape.
She is wearing a shadowy black wraithaline medallion carved with runes, a jute-strung pallid avian skull with a wire-bound beak, a ruby-strung chain sporting a Liabo white moon pendant, a flowing stygian robe trimmed with various bones, a mithril Twilight Hall pin, a sable-framed stygian velvet houppelande spilling into a train of weblike onyx satin over a ruby flyrsilk petticoat hemmed with embroidered acantha leaves with a soft white lawn chemise underneath, a bloom-laden faenor vine wristlet set with crimson-swept orange crystal thorns, a sun-etched gold ring, an avian skull-clasped bag draped in layers of raw black silk, a thin black leather wand belt with a trio of scrimshaw buckles, an elagant ruby flyrsilk pouch adorned in sovyn clove trinkets, some pale silk stockings wrapped in black velvet vines under some deep black narrow-toed boots, and a smooth supple leather bodysuit with two silver eight-pointed stars on the collar.
Lady Elliathe just came through a heavy oak-bound door.
Elliathe gathers the wide skirts of her stygian velvet houppelande in her hands and drops into a low curtsy while maintaining impeccable posture and grace.
You grin at Elliathe.
With straightened posture and a firm chin, you present yourself to Elliathe with a short, courteous bow.
You greet, "Always a pleasure to see you."
You settle yourself on the mahogany chair for a moment's rest.
Elliathe nods in agreement to you.
Speaking warmly to you, Elliathe says, "Likewise, M'Lord."
You smile.
Speaking casually to Elliathe, you say, "I hoped to ask you a few questions tonight."
Elliathe adopts an agreeable expression.
Elliathe nods to you.
You say, "The same questions I will ask the others. I have five in total...though none of them are very tricky."
Elliathe informs, "I already had the occasion to speak with Councilor Opalina."
You smile.
Elliathe nods in agreement to you.
Elliathe smiles.
You say, "Councillor Opalina has been quite active as of late. She inspires me with her energy."
You chuckle.
Elliathe nods to you.
Elliathe cocks her head at you.
You say, "But let me not waste too much of your time. If you are ready, we can begin.."
You say, "And of course, take as long as you need to answer."
Elliathe says, "Of course M'lord."
You recite:
"What makes you want to take on this dangerous task?"
Elliathe ponders.
(Elliathe seems to take a moment to think through her answer, a thoughtful expression etched across her features. "I believe my reasons are two-fold, M'Lord.")
You nod slowly at Elliathe.
Speaking to you, Elliathe asserts, "On the first hand is my very nature. While I know there are many Empaths that are not of the service bent, which is admirable, that streak of wanting to put myself into the helpful service of others runs strong in me."
You smile at Elliathe.
(Elliathe holds up two fingers now, "Secondly is the safe and free haven this town as offered me.")
Elliathe nods once.
You nod.
You say, "Very good."
Elliathe says, "Coming as I do, from Hendor, and having lived most of my life under the yoke of the Edict, freedom and self-determination are important to me. As they are to this town."
Elliathe smiles at you.
You adopt an agreeable expression.
You say, "Indeed they are."
Elliathe nods in agreement to you.
You say, "So then, to my second question..."
You recite:
"Why do you feel you should be chosen above the other candidates?"
Elliathe slowly empties her lungs.
Elliathe cocks her head at you.
You gaze with interest at Elliathe.
Speaking calmly to you, Elliathe says, ""I understand the way in which the blood flows hot in this town. We are a passionate people, but unfortunately for some, they are unable to temper this hot-headedness. Again I point to my history. Living beneath the Edict in the family of a prominent merchant, it was imperative that no matter how hot my feelings ran, I needed to keep my cool. I feel that is needed in this situation."
Elliathe says, "We wish to avert war if at all possible."
You grin slowly.
You say, "That is what I’ve heard."
You nod.
Elliathe shakes her head.
Elliathe frowns.
Elliathe says, "We're potentially sandwiched between two Empires, which is not a good state of play,"
You adopt an agreeable expression.
Elliathe furrows her brow.
You say, "Yeah, the pressure from both is creating quite a bit of friction..."
You say, "Which leads perfectly into my third question for you..."
Elliathe says, "Especially since some of the denizens of the Glatoph have joined Gnul's forces."
You apologetically say, "Unless you hadn't finished with your previous answer."
You smile.
You nod slowly at Elliathe.
Elliathe says, "Oh, no I am done, forgive me for prattling on."
Elliathe blushes a soft apricot shade at you.
You say, "Yes, I heard that same thing last night. I do need to gather information regarding what is happening in the south, but that will need to wait for another evening..."
You slowly and deliberately empty your filled lungs.
You grin at Elliathe.
Elliathe nods in agreement to you.
You say, "You speak with eloquence, you do not prattle."
Elliathe says, "Well when the time comes, I have kept myself abreast."
You say, "My third question then..."
You nod at Elliathe.
You recite:
"What do you see as a reasonable outcome to this conflict?"
Elliathe slowly empties her lungs.
Elliathe says, "That is a very difficult question to answer."
You nod slowly.
Elliathe narrows her eyes.
Speaking to you, Elliathe asserts, ""Truthfully, what *my* ultimate outcome is matters little. I am no Councilor of this town. I would firstly follow the will of the Council and Mayor in what we wish to achieve. Personally though?"
You nod at Elliathe.
Elliathe paces back and forth.
Elliathe says, "Personally I hope that we can achieve the 'best case scenario' of having our sovereignty entirely preserved. However, there is such a thing as incremental results. First increment would be allowing trade once again with Briar Moon. Secondly?."
(Elliathe begins to count off various achievable points.)
Elliathe says, "Would be no airships passing directly over our town. The third point would be assurances that no foreign troops will be within the borders of our town. And we would work down the list from there."
You smile at Elliathe.
You nod.
You say, "Very good."
Elliathe informs, "After all, Diplomacy is the Art of the Possible. It is better to come back with *something* than nothing at all."
You say, "This is always the truth."
You nod at Elliathe.
You say, "My next question can be answered with a simple yes or no, but you are welcome to expound upon it."
Speaking to you, Elliathe says, "But again this is just my take and my personal feelings. Ultimately it is up to the adminstration and care of our Mayor and Council to outline what those incremental points are."
You bite your lip.
You nod.
Speaking to Elliathe, you say, "Perhaps I should allow you to tell me when you have finished answering the question."
You chuckle to yourself.
Elliathe says, "Oh no, I am finished."
Elliathe nods to you.
Elliathe says, "Forgive me."
Elliathe blushes a soft apricot shade at you.
You flash a wide grin.
You say, "There is no need."
You recite:
"Do you believe that Ta'Vaalor's actions against Icemule have been justified?"
Elliathe slowly empties her lungs.
Speaking honestly to you, Elliathe says, "I have left my opinion on such matters to be shaped by the opinions of people I respect? As I was not here to witness these events, and having only heard bits and pieces, I cannot fully form an opinion. *However* from my understanding this all occurred because of perceived rudeness. If that is truly the case, then this was quite an overreactive judgement rendered upon our town for a mere slight. I hope that makes any sort of sense."
You nod in agreement.
You say, "It makes perfect sense."
Elliathe wonders, "I will definitely need to do more research into the exact occurance if I am chosen."
Elliathe nods to you.
You say, "And now...you have survived the roughest of my questions."
You flash a wide grin.
You ask, "Shall we tackle the last?"
Elliathe nods in agreement to you.
You recite:
"If this trip to Ta'Vaalor ends in disaster, and you are not heard from again, what final words might you offer Icemule?"
Elliathe ponders.
Elliathe raises an eyebrow in your direction.
You cock your head at Elliathe.
You smile.
Speaking amusedly to you, Elliathe informs, "This is oddly the most difficult question!"
You say, "There is that possibility."
You nod slowly.
You laugh softly, trying to hide your amusement.
Speaking to Elliathe, you say, "Simply speak from your heart."
(Elliathe seems to consider this for a long moment before finally answering, "My my spirit see us to Freedom. May my Lady," here, Elliathe reaches up to run her fingers across one of the silver eight-pointed stars embossed into the collar of her bodysuit, "Grant that I am avenged.")
(Elliathe seems to consider this for a long moment before finally answering, "May my spirit see us to Freedom. May my Lady," here, Elliathe reaches up to run her fingers across one of the silver eight-pointed stars embossed into the collar of her bodysuit, "Grant that I am avenged.")
You smile at Elliathe.
Elliathe nods to you.
You approvingly say, "These are fine words."
You smile at Elliathe.
Speaking to Elliathe, you ask, "Not so difficult, right?"
You say, "I suspect King Qalinor will be much more difficult than I."
Elliathe says, "Likely it will be more of a gurgle, but yes. As an Empath... one accepts the possibility of death every day. We're familiar with it."
Elliathe smiles at you.
You chuckle.
Elliathe nods in agreement to you.
Elliathe says, "Indeed he likely will be."
You say, "Let us hope it doesn't come to that end."
Elliathe nods in agreement to you.
Speaking to you, Elliathe agrees, "Indeed."
Speaking to Elliathe, you say, "I will take what you told me tonight, and share it amongst the Council as well. We have quite a decision to make soon.."
Speaking to Elliathe, you say, "And I find your answers tonight to be quite strong."
Elliathe beams happily at you!
Speaking gratefully to you, Elliathe says, "Thank ye M'Lord. It gives me great pleasure to hear that."
Speaking to Elliathe, you say, "I will not keep you. I know there is a crowning to get to soon. But I wish to thank you for taking this time to meet with me, on behalf of the Council, and all of Icemule."
Elliathe nods in agreement to you.
Elliathe smiles at you.
You stand back up.
You bow to Elliathe.
Elliathe exclaims, "Thank ye very much for your consideration, M'Lord!"
Elliathe gathers the wide skirts of her stygian velvet houppelande in her hands and drops into a low curtsy while maintaining impeccable posture and grace.
You say, "My pleasure."
You smile at Elliathe.
Elliathe exclaims, "And now? To the festivities!"
Elliathe nods to you.
Elliathe lets out a cheer!
You adopt an agreeable expression.
You exclaim, "Let the fun begin!"
You flash a wide grin.
Elliathe exclaims, "Indeed!"
Elliathe waves to you.
You wave.
Lady Elliathe just went through a heavy oak-bound door.
You settle yourself on the mahogany chair for a moment's rest.
Teaberry
You see Defender of Mist Harbor Teaberry Wildroot the Magician.
She appears to be a Paradis Halfling.
She is average height. She appears to be young and untried. She has a shimmer of gold on her eyelids, sparkling pink albino eyes and creamy white skin. She has shoulder length, glossy pale green hair adorned with a cascade of silver leaf skeletons along an intricate circle braid. She has a cherubic face, a pert, daintily upturned nose and a dimpled chin. A soft grey penguin feather quill tipped with a gold-leafed silver nib is tucked behind her ear.
She is in good shape.
She is holding a copper wire-wrapped mesille scepter in her right hand.
She is wearing a peaked purple wizard's hat, a rose-inlaid ruby heart medallion, a deep blue hooded cloak clasped with a silver crescent moon, a mithril Twilight Hall pin, a silver spiral brooch set with a star ruby and engraved with the letters WW, a diamond inset wolf-shaped pin, some exquisite satin gloves, an elegant sanguine harness slung over her shoulder, a rich purple woolen backpack, some tooled spiked full leather, a pale violet tunic embroidered with celadon dragonflies, a driftwood and leather band, a sapphire-inset rose gold ring encircled by white gold, a polished gold ring, a suede-tied dark vanilla silk pouch, a baby blue kilt, and some royal blue tanned walrus leather thigh-boots lined with rabbit fur.
You smile at Teaberry.
With a graceful movement of her hands, Teaberry lowers her head and sinks into a formal curtsy before you.
You greet, "Good evening."
You stand back up.
With straightened posture and a firm chin, you present yourself to Teaberry with a short, courteous bow.
You settle yourself on the mahogany chair for a moment's rest.
Teaberry says, "Good evening. Thank you for the directions."
Speaking to Teaberry, you say, "I won't keep you long, I know there are many festivities tonight."
You smile at Teaberry.
Teaberry smiles.
Teaberry says, "Thank you."
Speaking to Teaberry, you say, "As you were one wishing to explore the option of joining the delegation, I have for you five questions...the same I will be asking to each."
You say, "Take as little time, or as much, as you wish with each."
Teaberry asks, "All right. What would you like to know?"
You smile.
You say, "I'll begin with the first...."
You recite:
"What makes you want to take on this dangerous task?"
Teaberry says, "I want to go because--well, there's a lot of dissent Not everyone seems to agree on what should be done. I want to go because I know I'll try to be fair. And I'll try to listen to everyone and see what can be done."
You nod.
You say, "A noble intention indeed."
Teaberry says, "And I don't think that you were wrong to voice your opinion in private. I'm sorry it became public."
You smile.
You say, "Most kind of you to say that. It is quite unfortunate it has leaked, as it has."
Teaberry nods.
Speaking to Teaberry, you ask, "Do you have more to add, or are you ready for the next?"
Teaberry says, "I'm ready for the next, sir."
You say, "I ask, because I had a habit of cutting off another earlier."
You chuckle to yourself.
You nod at Teaberry.
You recite:
"Why do you feel you should be chosen above the other candidates?"
Teaberry says, "I don't. I feel that the Council should choose the best for the job, whether that's me or not. And I wish the delegates well, whoever is chosen. But as to what I can bring to this--a focus on fairness, an eye for detail, a knack for getting people to talk to me, a willingness to listen, and no animosity toward anyone. I want everyone to get along, if possible."
You smile at Teaberry.
You say, "A very diplomatic answer...impressive."
You nod once.
You say, "We shall move to the next question...and with its answer, be over halfway done."
You recite:
"What do you see as a reasonable outcome to this conflict?"
Teaberry says, "Thank you for your patience. I know that I am taking a fair amount of time to think over my answers."
You say, "No no, take as long as you wish. I am in no hurry."
You smile.
Teaberry says, "A reasonable outcome--well, I'd like to talk things over with Briarmoon Cove and see if we could establish a treaty with them that wouldn't interfere with the one between Ta'Vaalor and Briarmoon. They're closer to us geographically, so it might be a good idea to be closer to them economically. I'd also like to renegotiate some portions of the existing treaty between us and Ta'Vaalor. Treaties are amended all the time, after all. Mostly, I would like to get rid of the bad feeling between our town and Ta'Vaalor. Anger and fear aren't good for either side."
You nod in agreement.
You say, "Indeed...they are both quite destructive emotions."
Teaberry says, "Which...mostly will involve listening, I think. Listening to what's being said and what isn't."
Teaberry says, "People don't always talk about what's really wrong. Especially if their pride has been wounded, and that's happened on both sides."
Teaberry sighs.
You nod slowly.
You say, "And that sort of wound is perhaps the hardest to heal."
Teaberry nods to you.
Teaberry says, "It is, unfortunately."
You say, "My next question, it is a simple question. A yes, or no, will do. But of course, you may expound on that, should you wish."
Teaberry nods.
You recite:
"Do you believe that Ta'Vaalor's actions against Icemule have been justified?"
Teaberry says, "No. You're not the entire Icemulian government, and your opinion was intended to be private. I see Vaalor as lashing out in injured pride, and having taken that position, not really knowing how to back away from it. Not to mention that Vaalorians have a tradition of not retreating even when it's practical to do so. And...well, countries don't like admitting to having screwed up. They think it makes them appear weak. I think it makes them appear like people."
You grin at Teaberry.
You say, "Indeed. And I think you sum up the Vaalorians quite well."
You chuckle to yourself.
You say, "And with that, we are brought to the final question I wish to present...an easy one, perhaps."
Teaberry nods.
Teaberry smiles.
Teaberry says, "Ask away."
You recite:
"If this trip to Ta'Vaalor ends in disaster, and you are not heard from again, what final words might you offer Icemule?"
You gaze with interest at Teaberry.
Teaberry says, "That would not be my expectation, but if it happened--'I would say to change the battlefield. Not to fight them on the turf of warfare--our population is too small for that--but to switch the battleground to somewhere where we can win. Trade. Transportation. Lore. And use those wins to make Icemule stronger. Above all, try to get along. It will drive the Claw of Andelas crazy."
Teaberry grins wickedly.
You grin slowly at Teaberry.
Speaking to Teaberry, you say, "I must admit, I wasn't expecting that response. Very impressive."
You nod at Teaberry.
Teaberry says, "Thank you."
You smile at Teaberry.
Teaberry says, "And thank you for taking the time to interview me on such a hectic day. I appreciate it."
Speaking to Teaberry, you say, "I will keep you no longer. Thank you for humoring me this night. You have provided great insight that I'm sure the Council will appreciate."
You smile at Teaberry.
With a graceful movement of her hands, Teaberry lowers her head and sinks into a formal curtsy before you.
Speaking to Teaberry, you say, "You are quite welcome."
You offer a polite nod, touching two fingers against your forehead in a brief salute as you tuck your opposite hand into the bloodjewel-fastened pocket of your obsidian waistcoat.
Teaberry waves.
You wave.
Defender of Mist Harbor Teaberry just went through a heavy oak-bound door.
Missoni
You see Missoni Sabretache Faendryl the Cultivator of the Shrieking Root.
She appears to be a Dark Elf.
She is shorter than average and has a fragile, slender frame. She appears to have come of age. She has long-lashed chimerical viridian eyes and richly toned, olive brown skin. She has waist-length, glossy black hair with a subtle cobalt sheen that is sharply contrasted by a snow-white blaze curling down the right side of her face. She has a pinched face, a sharp and severe nose and a prominent collarbone marked by a tiny mole. Her pointed chin and delicate bone structure contribute to the waifish appearance of her visage. She has an oval blood red eye tattoo on her neck, some inked whorls of mist on her arm, an eight-tined star tattooed in lapis ink on the top of her right hand, and a winged lark-shaped mark on her leg.
She is in good shape.
A slowly rotating ring of sigils encircles each of her hands, scribed on the air in glittery prismatic energy.
She is holding a spiralled lor staff wound around a polychromatic vaelfyren core in her right hand.
She is wearing a gold-sheened ebon brocatelle tricorn adorned with a cloudy sea glass bauble, a cropped black suede jacket, a scoop-neck malachite silk blouse bound with a gilt plumille underbust corset, a lor signet ring, some dark suede slim-legged pants, and some corbeau sheepskin suede knee-boots buttoned with glazed alder squares.
Schools of golden-brown fishcakes swim across her body, maneuvering then dissipating in waves of mist.
You settle yourself on the mahogany chair for a moment's rest.
Missoni flounces through a heavy oak-bound door amidst a diffuse cloud of prismatic glitter.
You smile at Missoni.
Missoni smiles.
An inlaid leather grimoire drifts in looking for its owner.
A yellow-eyed silvery lor mandrake with glossy holly leaves sticking out of her head toddles into the area and up to Missoni.
You stand back up.
With straightened posture and a firm chin, you present yourself to Missoni with a short, courteous bow.
Missoni curtsies to you.
Missoni cheerfully greets, "Fair eve."
Speaking politely to Missoni, you say, "Thank you for meeting with me tonight."
You settle yourself on the mahogany chair for a moment's rest.
Speaking to you, Missoni says, "Of course."
Speaking to Missoni, you say, "I understand you have an interest in joining the delegation..."
Missoni nods to you.
You say, "And because of that, I wish to ask you just a few questions."
Missoni confirms, "I do."
Missoni adopts an agreeable expression.
Missoni folds her hands.
You say, "Five simple questions...the same I have asked of each."
You smile.
Missoni says, "Of course."
Speaking to Missoni, you say, "I will begin...and feel free to take as much time as you need to answer."
Missoni nods appreciatively to you.
You recite:
"What makes you want to take on this dangerous task?"
Missoni looks thoughtfully at you.
Craning her head back, causing the leaves and vegetation at the top to bobble, the mandrake opens her mouth wide and emits an ear-piercing scream.
Missoni says, "I do not see it as a particularly dangerous task, in truth. I have traveled to Ta'Vaalor recently, and fairly often, and do not feel particularly threatened in my travels there. I also feel adept at defending myself should the need arise. Rather, I am eager at the opportunity for diplomacy. I think there is a unique opportunity here to do something to benefit a city I care very much about."
You nod at Missoni.
The dog hovers protectively by Missoni's side, baring its teeth at nothing in particular.
You say, "This is very true...there is most certainly an opportunity here. Many, perhaps."
You ponder the meaning of Missoni's existence.
Missoni agrees with you.
You recite:
"Why do you feel you should be chosen above the other candidates?"
Speaking to you, Missoni explains, "I feel I am uniquely positioned as someone who has a history with Icemule but also has connections across the 'Spine and throughout Elanthia to mediate such a situation. I have a strong command of customs and traditions and have comported myself honorably in such situations before. That said, I will not be chosen above all other candidates, and see this as a partnership. I believe it is important that the delegation works together, and I would be soliciting ideas from interested parties before our travels that they may wish to bring up."
You smile at Missoni.
You say, "Very good."
You nod once.
Missoni smiles.
You say, "In answering this next question, you will be over halfway done.."
You flash a quick grin.
You recite:
"What do you see as a reasonable outcome to this conflict?"
Missoni flashes a quick grin.
Missoni amusedly says, "Well, I cannot speak for Ta'Vaalor, I suppose, but in considering the implications for Icemule I see now that the agreement to allow Vaalorian airships to fly over the city is rather one-sided. I think amending the agreement to include something that benefits Icemule would be ideal for me. That might, perhaps, look like an ageement from Ta'Vaalor to leave trade open to Briarmoon Cove so that Icemule may partake, or perhaps even provide the use of some airships instead of seeing them merely... fly over. That, of course, would only be if the citizens are comfortable with such an agreement. Mostly, I think Ta'Vaalor ought to provide something in return."
You smile.
You say, "I most certainly agree with that."
You nod once.
Missoni smiles.
The dog twists its neck to raise one of its ears up to one side and begins sniffing furiously while staring vacantly ahead.
You say, "My next question, it can be answered with a short "yes" or "no", but of course you may expound upon your answer."
Missoni adopts an agreeable expression.
You recite:
"Do you believe that Ta'Vaalor's actions against Icemule have been justified?"
Missoni ponders.
Missoni thoughtfully says, "Yes and no. From their position, I can certainly see why they would have such a reaction. After all, they received a letter believing it to be intended for them. Given that that part was a misunderstanding, no, I do not think they should continue to interfere with Icemule's trade, and I do not think that is justified. I am hoping the delegation can clarify that the letter was sent by an nefarious party, and not in good faith."
You smile at Missoni.
Speaking to Missoni, you say, "A very diplomatic answer."
You nod approvingly.
Missoni adds, "Part of that agreement also rests on Briarmoon Cove. I do not think Ta'Vaalor can be solely held responsible."
You frown.
You say, "Yes, this I also agree with."
Missoni furrows her brow.
You say, "You have survived...and come to my final question."
You flash a quick grin.
Missoni laughingly says, "I will not assume survival until I have answered it."
You laugh softly, trying to hide your amusement.
You recite:
"If this trip to Ta'Vaalor ends in disaster, and you are not heard from again, what final words might you offer Icemule?"
You gaze with interest at Missoni.
Missoni blinks at you.
You smile at Missoni.
Missoni ponders.
The dog cocks its head to one side and raises its muzzle up into the air, sniffing anxiously. After a moment, the fur of its ruff bristles, and it begins to growl at the shadows.
Missoni amusedly says, "I... highly doubt that will be the outcome, but, I suppose you could simply tell them to avenge me."
You laugh softly, trying to hide your amusement.
Missoni traces the lines of her star tattoo.
You nod at Missoni.
You say, "Quite fair, I would indeed."
You grin at Missoni.
You will speak appreciatively on your next message.
Missoni cheerfully says, "Perigourd would be amenable to that I am sure."
You nod in agreement.
You say, "If I know Perigourd at all, I do not doubt it."
Missoni grins wryly.
Speaking appreciatively to Missoni, you say, "And thank you for being willing to meet with me so late."
Speaking to Missoni, you say, "I will make sure the Council also knows of your noble intentions."
Speaking to you, Missoni says, "Oh, likewise! Thank you for taking such an active role as Councilor."
You smile.
You will speak humbly on your next message.
You humbly say, "It is my pleasure to serve."
You stand back up.
Speaking to Missoni, you say, "Send my apologies to Perigourd as well, for keeping you."
You bow to Missoni.
Speaking to you, Missoni says, "I shall."
Missoni curtsies to you.
You smile.
You say, "Excellent."
You settle yourself on the mahogany chair for a moment's rest.
Speaking to you, Missoni wishes, "Fair eve to you."
You say, "And to you."
Missoni flounces through a heavy oak-bound door amidst a diffuse cloud of prismatic glitter.
Loralaii
You see Mistress Loralaii the Grandmaster Alchemist.
She appears to be a Giantman.
She is shorter than average and has a particularly plump figure. She appears to be immature. She has thick-lashed violet eyes and tanned skin. She has very long, sun-damaged ebon-hazed purple hair gathered into a mass of intricate braids, the ends dangling several golden pieces of eight. She has big hips. She appears to have a sap-filled wrotwood globule in her eye socket. She appears to have a sap-filled wrotwood globule in her eye socket.
She has an onyx-shaded crimson flame tattoo on her finger, a black-inked skull and crossbones wearing a sanguine-hued crown of molded flesh on her neck, a black deathstone stud in her lip, a jack-o-lantern tattoo inked within a cobweb-like mist on her neck, a crossed green pair of pickles tattoo on her wrist, an inked skeletal hand draped across the back of her hand, a hempen-hued inked noose dangling a dead pirate on her neck, a discolored and crooked pickle tattoo on her finger, a spider-shaped mark on her ankle, and a tiny red crystal rose in her left nostril.
She is in good shape.
The exposed sections of her body reveal her skeletal frame of yellowed bones, the hardened tissue splattered with blood and bits of gore.
She is wearing a metallic pumpkin-inset crown, a chunk of cannon ball shrapnel, a timeworn navy blue coat embellished with macabre pins and medals, a bone-inlaid ribbed bodysuit, a vaalorn and veniom wedding ring, a twisted wrotwood ring engraved with a withered heart, a purple scarf fashioned from the tattered flags of krolvin ships, a small shadowy black velvet pouch, a high-slit black leather skirt draped in mesh netting, some ebon netted lace stockings, and a pair of glowing zombie skin knee-boots buckled with gnawed bones.
You settle yourself on the mahogany chair for a moment's rest.
Mistress Loralaii just came through a heavy oak-bound door.
You stand back up.
You smile at Loralaii.
With straightened posture and a firm chin, you present yourself to Loralaii with a short, courteous bow.
Loralaii nods to you in greeting.
A green-eyed orange chinchilla scurries into the room.
Speaking politely to Loralaii, you say, "Good evening, Loralaii...thank you for meeting with me."
You say, "I will strive to take up as little of your time this evening as possible."
You settle yourself on the mahogany chair for a moment's rest.
Loralaii darkly says, "I’m not doing anything."
You smile.
Speaking to Loralaii, you say, "I simply have five questions to ask you. The same I've asked each of those wishing to go on this trip and serve in an official capacity."
Loralaii nods understandingly.
You say, "So let us begin then with the first question..."
You recite:
"What makes you want to take on this dangerous task?"
Loralaii darkly asks, "Dangerous?"
You nod.
Loralaii darkly says, "Hmmm, I don’t see it as dangerous."
Loralaii darkly says, "But, I am tired of hearing everything second hand. I want to be there, watch it happen."
You flash a quick grin.
You say, "Quite fair. Why sit back and wait for the news, when you can make it yourself."
You nod.
Loralaii darkly says, "Exactly. I haven’t been a fan of the goings on lately."
You nod sympathetically.
You say, "Which I suppose brings us to the next question I might ask.."
You recite:
"Why do you feel you should be chosen above the other candidates?"
Loralaii darkly says, "Because I have no ulterior motive. I want facts. Black and white. I am not on some political mission for peace."
Loralaii's black acorn amulet flickers various shades of purple.
You grin slowly at Loralaii.
Loralaii darkly says, "So I feel I will get the job done."
Loralaii nods to you.
You say, "Straight to the point. I can appreciate that."
You nod at Loralaii.
You say, "Now my third question.."
You recite:
"What do you see as a reasonable outcome to this conflict?"
Loralaii darkly says, "'It maters not how it ends to me. Just the answers."
Loralaii darkly says, "Whatever happens, happens."
You gaze with interest at Loralaii.
You smile quietly to yourself.
You nod in agreement.
You say, "Indeed."
You say, "Your answers are direct, I can appreciate that. And my next question is fairly direct as well. In fact, you can answer with a yes, or a no, should you desire...though you are welcome to expound upon that."
A green-eyed orange chinchilla yawns widely, revealing long yellowed incisors and a pale curving tongue. It completes its yawn with a long luxurious stretch, scanning the area with a languid disdain.
You recite:
"Do you believe that Ta'Vaalor's actions against Icemule have been justified?"
Loralaii darkly says, "I’m sure they think so."
Loralaii shrugs.
You laugh softly, trying to hide your amusement.
You say, "I'm sure they do."
Speaking to Loralaii, you ask, "But do you think so?"
You cock your head at Loralaii.
Loralaii shrugs.
Loralaii darkly says, "Who cares what I think."
You say, "I certainly do."
You smile at Loralaii.
Loralaii darkly says, "I just want to move the wheels of progress along."
You nod at Loralaii.
You say, "Fair enough."
You say, "Let us move then to your final question. One I think is fairly simple, though a few have needed time to think on..."
You recite:
"If this trip to Ta'Vaalor ends in disaster, and you are not heard from again, what final words might you offer Icemule?"
Loralaii darkly says, "I told you."
Loralaii nods.
Loralaii folds her arms over her chest.
The black acorn amulet hanging from Loralaii's neck glows purple.
You grin at Loralaii.
Loralaii darkly says, "We should have leveled them eons ago."
You laugh softly, trying to hide your amusement.
You say, "I think those would make for amazing final words."
You nod at Loralaii.
You will speak appreciatively on your next message.
Loralaii darkly says, "Thank you, counselor."
Speaking appreciatively to Loralaii, you say, "Thank you for taking the time from your schedule to meet with me regarding this."
You nod once.
Loralaii darkly says, "Pleasure is all mine."
Loralaii bows her head slightly as she drops into a deep, respectful curtsy.
You stand back up.
You bow to Loralaii.
You settle yourself on the mahogany chair for a moment's rest.
Nalver
You see Nalver Nadador the Voln Master.
He appears to be a Sylvankind of the Lassaran D'ahranal.
He is very tall. He appears to be in the prime of life. He has vivid chartreuse eyes and alabaster skin. He has shoulder length, wavy strawberry blonde hair swept back beneath a loosely woven headband of swirling orbs and eyes and tucked behind the ears. He has a gaunt face, a classical nose and sunken cheeks.
He is in good shape.
Gangrenous flesh lays open to expose the blackened bone of his ring finger where a smooth bone ring pierced by tiny crystal shards rests. Sickly green necrosis spreads to the back of his hand and wrist, while blistering sores ooze along his arm.
He is wearing a glyph-etched pewter headband, a silvery purple skipjack, a pearl and red dreamstone earcuff, a bold nacreous elesine cloak configured with crimson coral compositions, a drake-winged insignia, a quintuple orb brooch, a carved sephwir tree brooch, a vruul skin weapon harness trimmed with silver, a winter white knapsack, a winter white leather doublet, a softly-hued aquamarine shirt collared by sprays of lace in sea foam white, some larkspur-banded silk gloves trailing a row of eye buttons, a sanguine sharkskin belt with a grimy ghezyte buckle, a bloodstained leather survival kit, a veniom-worked black silk gem pouch, a thick ebon wolf hide bag, some winter white pants, and a pair of pearlescent silk boots tied with veniom-laced cords.
You settle yourself on the mahogany chair for a moment's rest.
Nalver just came through a heavy oak-bound door.
Nalver says, "Good evening."
You smile at Nalver.
You stand back up.
With straightened posture and a firm chin, you present yourself to Nalver with a short, courteous bow.
Speaking to Nalver, you say, "And thank you for taking this time to meet with me tonight."
Nalver bows to you.
You settle yourself on the mahogany chair for a moment's rest.
Nalver mills about with an uncertain look on his face.
Speaking to Nalver, you say, "I will not keep you long, as I know there is much happening tonight."
Nalver plops down to the ground in a sitting position.
Nalver smiles.
You say, "But I have a few questions to ask. The few I have asked all those who wish to join the official delegation."
Nalver says, "I heard and read something about that."
You nod at Nalver.
Nalver skeptically says, "And I heard there was not much agreement about delegates."
You say, "As of yet, no. I hope that we might find some enlightenment through this process."
Speaking to Nalver, you say, "We shall certainly see. But for now, it is only five questions...none of which are incredibly difficult. And feel free to take as long as you need with each."
You ask, "Shall we begin?"
Nalver nods eagerly.
You smile.
You recite:
"What makes you want to take on this dangerous task?"
Flames dance around Nalver wreathing him in a torrent of violent energy.
Nalver says, "For one, I do not believe it will be dangerous. I have spent a great deal of time in Ta'Vaalor and some in Ta'Illistim. The people I have met, both citizens and of royalty, are fair and good people. I an intense desire to help to facilitate understanding between the town I call home and love and a group of people that I know to be reasonable and able to listen."
You smile.
You nod at Nalver.
Nalver says, "Also, despite my own convictions, I can take orders and convey the message that the council and mayor wants."
You say, "Very good."
Speaking to you, Nalver asks, "Is there anything more you would like to know about what I just said?"
You say, "Which leads us to the second of my questions..."
As Nalver draws a knobby ko'nag staff capped with a glistening ebony requiem starstone, invisible currents of energy rumble about its surface, cloaking it in a hazy blur.
You say, "Not as of yet."
Nalver put a knobby ko'nag staff capped with a glistening ebony requiem starstone in his weapon harness.
Nalver nods.
You recite:
"Why do you feel you should be chosen above the other candidates?"
Nalver says, "I cannot say that I do feel that I should be chosen over the other candidates. I do not really know a lot about why the others want to do it. I can say that I would be wary of sending a dark elf simply because of political and historical tensions."
Nalver says, "But."
You grin slowly.
Nalver says, "I can say why I think I am good candidate. I speak elven, which will be important. I also have experience living in Ta'Vaalor, with a few of the officers of the Crimson Legion over the years, including the current commander, and with Gasen, who is familiar with the royalty and directly in Ta'Vaalor because of the King."
You adopt an agreeable expression.
Nalver says, "I think that qualifies me, but I cannot say whether that would qualify me over others."
You say, "All of these seem to be skills of value."
You nod at Nalver.
Nalver says, "I am willing to learn more about the customs and histories, to study that is, before any official task."
You say, "And it leads perfectly into my third question. Considering your familiarity with the Nations..."
Nalver says, "Also, in the event of...something catastrophic, I am very survivable."
You grin at Nalver.
You say, "We'll get there."
You chuckle.
You recite:
"What do you see as a reasonable outcome to this conflict?"
Nalver rubs his chin thoughtfully.
Nalver says, "I am not really sure what a reasonable outcome would be. I suppose it would be an end to a pissing match. Excuse my language. Maybe...."
You chuckle.
You say, "That would indeed make for a pleasant ending to this conflict."
Nalver says, "Maybe opening up direct communication is the first step towards a diplomatic resolution and the hows and whys and whats are above my station, currently."
You nod.
You say, "Quite fair."
You say, "One step at a time, as they say."
You say, "We are now beyond the midway point. Hopefully my questions haven't been too difficult..."
Nalver says, "They are pretty simple and not very prying."
You say, "My next question, can be answered with a simple yes or no, if you choose. But you are welcome to expound upon your answer."
You recite:
"Do you believe that Ta'Vaalor's actions against Icemule have been justified?"
Nalver rubs his chin thoughtfully.
Nalver says, "That's a very leading question."
You smile at Nalver.
Nalver says, "I do not believe that the show of force is justified, if that is what you are asking."
You nod in agreement.
You say, "I, for one, am in agreement with that."
You say, "Well done. You have survived to meet with the final question for tonight. One that some have struggled with, though I find it not overly difficult."
Nalver asks, "I feel more that that is the internal personality of their culture. I am not sure I am saying that correctly but I think you can understand what I am saying?"
You ponder the meaning of Nalver's existence.
Speaking to Nalver, you say, "I think your answer is very clear and straight forward."
You nod at Nalver.
Speaking to you, Nalver says, "Well, let me explain something because I do think it is important."
You nod.
Nalver says, "Or explain my perception of something."
You say, "Please do."
Nalver says, "In the current forms of politics in the nations, Ta'Illistim is the city in which diplomacy, thought, and culture thrive and can be discussed. I many ways, it is the head, heart, and body of the nations. Ta'Vaalor is the arm and legs. It is the military might that keeps the rest of the Elven houses safe."
Nalver says, "Anything that challenges that show of power will always be immediately met with a show of power, regardless of whether it is right or wrong."
Nalver says, "That is the purpose of Ta'Vaalor, in the current setting."
You nod at Nalver.
Speaking to you, Nalver says, "And a question you haven't asked but I will answer is that it is important for someone to understand the intricacies of the fragile tensions between those two houses, because they are at odds as of recent."
You nod at Nalver.
Nalver says, "And it will likely be like walking down an aisle blindfolded with unlocked scales boxes to talk between things."
You laugh out loud!
You gaze in amusement at Nalver.
You say, "Indeed...a difficult line to walk."
Speaking to you, Nalver says, "So it the show of force by Ta'Vaalor justified. No. It is fully expected. And I can understand how it is merited in the system that exists out there."
Nalver says, "Is the show of force, even."
You nod at Nalver.
You say, "Thank you for going into depth regarding your thoughts. I appreciate it, and so will the Council."
Nalver says, "Especially considering that there is a recent change in the powers that be in the militaries of the nations."
Speaking to Nalver, you say, "I do like that you seem to be quite up to date on their structure."
Nalver says, "I am bad with names without consulting my notes, but the head of the Guard in Illistim was recently executed and Illistim is somewhat forcing their power and might over Ta'Vaalor."
Nalver says, "There is a child, in elven terms, sent to Ta'Vaalor to "learn" from them."
Nalver says, "Anyways...you get what I am going at."
Nalver says, "A lot is going on out there."
You say, "Yes, things are constantly shifting in the Nations."
You nod at Nalver.
Nalver says, "Gasen is his name. I hope to see him again. He is a squire and a page. I gifted him an ice gem from the glacei last time I was out there."
You grin.
You say, "I do not know of this Gasen."
Nalver says, "He said he would make it into a ring for the Queen."
Nalver says, "He is the son of the recently executed leader of the Illistim Guard."
You rub your chin thoughtfully.
You say, "I wonder if he has, or if he simply pocketed the gem."
You chuckle to yourself.
Nalver says, "I suppose I am ready for the last question."
You nod at Nalver.
You say, "Then the final question you shall have..."
You recite:
"If this trip to Ta'Vaalor ends in disaster, and you are not heard from again, what final words might you offer Icemule?"
You gaze with interest at Nalver.
Nalver says, "Be wary of the halflings that wear boots and put these personal agendas aside. The time to rise is now."
You flash a wide grin at Nalver.
You say, "Indeed. There is quite a bit of wisdom in your words."
Speaking appreciatively to Nalver, you say, "I thank you for taking this time to meet with me. Your desire to serve Icemule for the better truly warms my heart."
Nalver rubs his chin thoughtfully.
You say, "I will think long on what you've said, and make sure the other Councillors are also aware of your thoughts on these questions."
Nalver stands up.
Nalver dusts off his elesine cloak.
Nalver turns back the edge of his cloak, momentarily revealing the inner lining.
You smile quietly to yourself.
Speaking to Nalver, you say, "You have made a strong argument for yourself tonight."
You nod at Nalver.
Nalver says, "Thank you."
You stand back up.
You bow to Nalver.
Nalver bows to you.
You appreciatively say, "Thank you, again, for your time."
You smile at Nalver.
Nalver says, "And thank you for your consideration, listening, and understanding."
Nalver smiles.
Nalver turns sharply on his heel, sending the folds of his elesine cloak swirling about his body.
You nod at Nalver.
Nalver just went through a heavy oak-bound door.
You settle yourself on the mahogany chair for a moment's rest.
Dendum
Twisting vines writhe around Dendum, obscuring him in an ever-shifting barrier of thorns.
You see Seneschal Dendum the Wind in the Willow.
He appears to be a Forest Gnome of the Wendwillow Bloodline.
He is average height. He appears to be of full age. He has aubergine-flecked arctic blue eyes and sun-kissed, light brown skin. He has raggedly cut, thick grey-brown hair braided into and partially concealed by a tangle of moss and acorns framed in a cascade of rook feather quills. He has a broad nose and a grey-brown beard worn in multiple braids.
He has a carved gnomish pipe clenched between his teeth, a curved virescent rose thorn in the upper ridge of his left ear, and a Wendwillow bloodmark tattoo on his neck.
He is in good shape. There is a small moss green sprite flying above his shoulder. He is wearing a dark emerald wool cloak draped in thick animal pelts, an armcuff with a raven's wing obsidian encased in faenor willow branches, a buckskin jacket with warg fur cuffs over some dented lamellar armor draped in badger pelts, a bear claw fetish, a matte black golvern quiver containing a bundle of feras arrows, and a krodera botanist kit.
You settle yourself on the mahogany chair for a moment's rest.
You hear very soft footsteps.
Dendum says, "Hrmm."
You blink.
You grin at Dendum.
Dendum bows to you.
You say, "Ah! Dendum."
You stand back up.
With straightened posture and a firm chin, you present yourself to Dendum with a short, courteous bow.
You politely say, "Thank you for taking time out of your schedule to meet with me tonight."
Dendum nods once.
Dendum says, "There is time enough to meet in such days."
You smile.
You nod.
You say, "I will try to not take much of your time. I have five questions I wish to ask..."
You say, "The same as I've asked each party who has expressed interest."
You say, "You of course may take as little, or as much time as needed. I am in no hurry."
You say, "But these questions are simple enough I believe."
You ask, "Shall we begin?"
Dendum alertly informs, ""Yes can ask the questions."
You grin.
You say, "Excellent."
You clear your throat.
You recite:
"What makes you want to take on this dangerous task?"
Dendum asks, "Hrmmm.....the council assumes danger? Have walked into the fortress and spoken with the King of Ta'vaalor before and did not think it such a dangerous thing. The danger is for those who suffer the failure of the talking yes?"
You grin.
You say, "Perhaps so."
You nod.
You say, "But should you feel that no danger exists, that is a fine answer."
Dendum sagely says, "It is perhaps unwise to assume either way."
You nod once at Dendum.
You say, "Then let us move to the second question...so that we might know a bit more about you."
Adopting an agreeable expression, Dendum nods.
You recite:
"Why do you feel you should be chosen above the other candidates?"
Dendum drums his fingers thoughtfully against his chin and inhales the cedar-scented smoke smoldering away within his pipe deeply.
Dendum glances up.
Dendum says, "Do not know of all the other candidates, but some have oaths to other interests than Icemule.....some have alliances within the council that are very strong...Dendum has none of these things so could only do the wishes of the greater council and Mayor without being distracted by former issues."
You flash a quick grin at Dendum.
You say, "Excellent. Well said, indeed."
Speaking to you, Dendum muses, ""Dendum once recommended lining a room with Mithril to control for outside magic...this is why you do such a thing here?"
Dendum points up.
Speaking to Dendum, you say, "I noticed that few come here, and so I plan to obtain it through the use of Squatters Law."
You grin at Dendum.
You say, "A nice, out of the way location...of some significance."
You chuckle to yourself.
Dendum nods once.
Speaking to you, Dendum continues, ""Have spoken before with King Qalinor of Ta'vaalor."
A resplendent obsidian black raven brushes against the ceiling, cawing with alarm as his flight is momentarily interrupted.
You cock your head at Dendum.
Dendum says, "Achieved goal that time...would hope to be able to do so again."
You ask, "Oh?"
You smile.
You nod.
Dendum nods to you.
You say, "Well that might help answering my next question, in fact."
You recite:
"What do you see as a reasonable outcome to this conflict?"
Dendum starts chortling.
You say, "Having spoken successfully with King Qalinor, perhaps you might have an understanding of him that others don't."
Speaking to you, Dendum inquires, ""A delegate can walk the mountain and speak before the throne of the golden wyvern but is it not the councils job to determine that? What does the entirety of the council wish as an outcome? A return to the way things were or some type of improvement?"
You say, "Ah, so a reasonable outcome is meeting the terms set by the Council. A very good answer, and one I certainly agree with."
You nod at Dendum.
Dendum nods.
You say, "You have handled these questions quite smoothly, and with ease...a good trait, for sure."
You say, "My fourth question, it is a simple yes or no. But of course, you may expound upon that answer."
You recite:
"Do you believe that Ta'Vaalor's actions against Icemule have been justified?"
Dendum inhales deeply upon his pipe, puckering his lips and sending out a small stream of smoke before him briefly.
Dendum says, "Believe that the actions of Ta'vaalor have been in keeping with the agreement that was in place."
Dendum drums his fingers thoughtfully against his chin and inhales the cedar-scented smoke smoldering away within his pipe deeply.
You nod slowly at Dendum.
You say, "And have been in keeping with the nature of the Vaalor...very true."
Dendum says, "This Qalinor is a soldier turned King....he would perhaps be open to a suggestion based on insult to the honor."
Dendum says, "This is something King Qalinor Ta'vaalor can understand."
You nod at Dendum.
You say, "And it seems to be that, my final question may not apply to you, considering your previous success with Qalinor. But, please, if you would humor me..."
You recite:
"If this trip to Ta'Vaalor ends in disaster, and you are not heard from again, what final words might you offer Icemule?"
You gaze with interest at Dendum.
Dendum says, "If the insult they think has occurred is so great they decide to kill the delegates."
Dendum says, "Would say final words would be...prepare."
You smile at Dendum.
You say, "A wise final word to Icemule, indeed."
You nod approvingly.
Dendum asks, "This is all of the questions?"
Speaking appreciatively to Dendum, you say, "Thank you for providing an answer to my questions, and carving time out of your schedule to meet with me. I am sure this will be of great value both to myself, and the rest of the Council."
You nod at Dendum.
You say, "Not too bad, I hope."
You grin at Dendum.
You say, "I didn't wish to interrogate anyone, but should you have anything else you wish to add, by all means."
Dendum asks, "You will share this with the rest of council?"
You nod at Dendum.
Dendum nods once.
Dendum says, "Then will tell the council this."
You listen carefully to Dendum.
Dendum says, "There is old debt between the Paradis and the elves that Ta'vaalor should be reminded of."
You grin slowly at Dendum.
Dendum nods once.
You say, "A very good point to raise, my friend."
You say, "I will make sure the Council keeps that in mind as well."
Dendum nods.
Dendum says, "Hrmm....just so."
You say, "Should you wish anything else be added to the record, of course you may speak with any amongst the Council so that we might discuss it when we meet."
Dendum nods once.
Dendum says, "This is enough, good fortunes in making wise choice."
You bow to Dendum.
You say, "Let us hope good fortunes for all involved."
Dendum bows to you.
You settle yourself on the mahogany chair for a moment's rest.
You say, "And again, thank you for your service to Icemule, Dendum. You have inspired many."
Dendum says, "The Icemule always stands as the first shield against many dark things in the north."
Dendum says, "More now than before..."
You nod in agreement.
You say, "This is very true."
Dendum says, "Some of the south say Icemule should be silent and just worry about the vampires."
You say, "The darkness is always gathering in the north."
You ponder the meaning of Dendum's existence.
Dendum asks, "They have forgotten it is Icemule that holds back the Den of Rot and the Rift for years?"
You say, "Those in the south sadly have shown little will to fight their own battles. I find little value in their advice."
You smirk.
You nod at Dendum.
Dendum nods once.
Dendum looks around the room before placing his right hand over his heart and bending slightly at the waist in a short, but respectful, bow as he prepares to leave.
You say, "Some, but not all."
You rub your chin thoughtfully.
You smile at Dendum.
You say, "Be well, my friend. And should you need anything, seek me."
Dendum nods once.
Dendum points up.
You tilt your head up.
Dendum says, "The mithril only works if it is on walls and floor as well."
You grin at Dendum.
You say, "Yet another thing to add to my list."
You chuckle.
Dendum nods once.
You say, "So much needing done."
Dendum starts chortling.
Dendum inhales deeply upon his pipe, puckering his lips and sending out three rings of smoke before him briefly, then puffs out a small vine of smoke that darts right through all three which causes them to disperse in a hazy shroud!
The moss green sprite flying above Dendum's shoulder seems to be talking to itself.
Dendum says, "Must travel south to meeting."
Dendum bows to you.
You nod at Dendum.
You say, "Be safe."
You notice Dendum moving stealthily through a heavy oak-bound door.
Aliashyrah
You see Lady Aliashyrah Ilthaerhys.
She appears to be an Illistim Elf.
She is average height. She appears to be youthful. She has wide-set jade green eyes and alabaster skin. She has waist length, glossy auburn hair tousled into a textured bun that is barely restrained by an intricately woven circlet of subtle silver winter roses and frosted crystals. She has a delicate face, a classical nose and a generous mouth. Smears of sanguineous blood highlight each cheekbone and darken her lips.
She is in good shape.
She is wearing a jade-leafed silver-cast tuberose pendant on a thin chain, an elegant inky black leather greatcloak lined in jade silk, a front-laced obsidian leather corset with sheer side paneling accentuating the curve of the hips, a bug-eyed shrunken goblin head strung from a fraying length of knotted hemp, some black leather pants, and a pair of hellebore black rose-pressed leather high-heeled boots.
You nod at Aliashyrah.
Straightening her back, Aliashyrah gives you a formal, low curtsy. She inclines her head as well, favoring you with a nod.
You stand back up.
With straightened posture and a firm chin, you present yourself to Aliashyrah with a short, courteous bow.
Aliashyrah smiles.
You say, "Would you humor me...and allow me to put upon you my questions? Five simple ones, truly."
Aliashyrah nods to you.
Aliashyrah calmly says, "Certainly."
Aliashyrah says, "I saw the missive you posted."
You say, "As I have told the others, you may take as little time, or as much, as you need to answer."
You settle yourself on the mahogany chair for a moment's rest.
You ask, "Shall we begin?"
You cock your head at Aliashyrah.
Speaking to you, Aliashyrah observes, "This set up is rather reminiscent of meeting with the schoolmarms. You behind a desk, me standing to answer questions."
Aliashyrah grins impishly at you.
You laugh softly, trying to hide your amusement.
Aliashyrah nods slightly.
Speaking demurely to you, Aliashyrah says, "Certainly, Councillor. I am, as ever, at your disposal."
You gaze in amusement at Aliashyrah.
You nod.
You recite:
"What makes you want to take on this dangerous task?"
Aliashyrah gazes with interest at you.
Aliashyrah chuckles to herself.
You smile at Aliashyrah.
Speaking to you, Aliashyrah says, "I am certain with such a question you have heard the typical answers. To serve Icemule, to speak with reason and offer balance."
Speaking amusedly to you, Aliashyrah says, "I would go so far as to say you could take any of the answers and exchange them with little notice."
You grin slowly.
Speaking to you, Aliashyrah says, "My reasons likely mirror all the candidates but also include a measure of selfishness."
You cock your head at Aliashyrah.
Speaking to you, Aliashyrah says, "In times of action, there are those who choose to sit back and see what course matters may take, and those who prefer to step forward and perhaps be allowed an opportunity to influence the course."
Speaking simply to you, Aliashyrah says, "I am on the latter group."
You smile quietly to yourself.
You nod approvingly.
You say, "Very good."
Aliashyrah folds her hands behind her back.
You say, "Then perhaps you have already answered my next question with your first answer...but I shall ask anyway."
You recite:
"Why do you feel you should be chosen above the other candidates?"
Aliashyrah settles her gaze on you, watching you intently.
Aliashyrah nods slightly.
Speaking to you, Aliashyrah says, "The first question spoke to my motivation, I assume you chose this one to understand my measure of my qualifications."
Speaking evenly to you, Aliashyrah says, "I understand the power of words and have shown myself willing and able to express myself when met with," she pauses as a smirk touches her lips, "hostile opposition."
You grin slowly.
Speaking to you, Aliashyrah continues, "I have the benefit of being of elven blood and upbringing which can also be considered an advantage."
Speaking to you, Aliashyrah says, "Though since you asked why I should be chosen above the others, in order to truly answer would take far too long since then I must consider each other candidate."
You say, "Indeed. In fact you are from the very House that first claimed...offense."
Aliashyrah frankly says, "Some who have stepped forward are more qualified than others."
Speaking to you, Aliashyrah says, "But I will not waste your time but leave you to do the comparison, Councillor."
Aliashyrah grins at you.
You grin at Aliashyrah.
You say, "Fair enough."
Aliashyrah gazes with interest at you.
You say, "As you are very well versed in the events that have played out, I am curious to the answer you might find for my next question."
You recite:
"What do you see as a reasonable outcome to this conflict?"
Speaking to you, Aliashyrah clarifies, "Of which conflict do you speak? The one from years past that first sparked the circumstances now, or perhaps do you speak of the one that most seem preoccupied with, the apparent attempts of Ta'Vaalor to negatively impact Icemule's ability to freely trade and provide for her citizens?"
Speaking to you, Aliashyrah admits, "Though my answer is likely similar to both."
You nod at Aliashyrah.
You say, "Yes."
You smile.
Speaking to you, Aliashyrah says, "Reasonable is often measured differently by each side of a disagreement. A reasonable outcome for Icemule to many would be for her to be left alone and allowed to trade once more. That is a very pale definition of reasonable, though it would be a better situation than the current one."
You nod at Aliashyrah.
You say, "That is most certainly true."
Speaking bluntly to you, Aliashyrah says, "In my estimation, a reasonable outcome would be for Ta'Vaalor to meet with Icemule on even footing, regarding her as sovereign and offering the same respect they might to one of the other Elven houses.”
You smile at Aliashyrah.
You nod approvingly.
Speaking to you, Aliashyrah says, "If they were to do so, they would be forced to see that the previous treaty was little more than a farce and meant to display their perceived superiority."
You adopt an agreeable expression.
Speaking humbly to you, Aliashyrah says, "While Icemule is no Ta'Vaalor or Ta'Illistim, she has a right to come to negotiations standing upright rather than on her knees."
You flash a wide grin.
Speaking to you, Aliashyrah says, "What comes of those negotiations...well that is too soon to decide."
You nod.
You say, "A strong answer."
Speaking amusedly to you, Aliashyrah quips, "Likely too strong."
You say, "Let us move on to my fourth question then...which you could answer with a simple yes, or no. But feel free to expound upon your answer."
You grin at Aliashyrah.
Speaking to Aliashyrah, you say, "I don't feel it to be."
You recite:
"Do you believe that Ta'Vaalor's actions against Icemule have been justified?"
Speaking playfully to you, Aliashyrah teases, "You do have a talent for choosing words that are so variable in definition as to be almost impossible to define."
You laugh softly, trying to hide your amusement.
You say, "And here I thought I was asking a simple question."
You grin at Aliashyrah.
Aliashyrah grins slowly.
Speaking smoothly to you, Aliashyrah responds, "In that case, perhaps I should just answer no and let your imagination and any others who may hear my answers provide context to my no."
You gaze in amusement at Aliashyrah.
You say, "Fair enough. I quite approve of that answer, and I know many others that will as well."
You nod at Aliashyrah.
Aliashyrah smiles quietly to herself.
Speaking to Aliashyrah, you say, "You have survived to reach my final question...at least for now."
Aliashyrah chuckles.
You say, "Regarding the questions, not your survival..."
Speaking to you, Aliashyrah reminds, "Knife fights were last night, Councillor."
You chuckle to yourself.
You say, "Although, with that in mind...it does lead well to that final question."
You recite:
"If this trip to Ta'Vaalor ends in disaster, and you are not heard from again, what final words might you offer Icemule?"
Aliashyrah gazes in amusement at you.
You gaze with interest at Aliashyrah.
Speaking to you, Aliashyrah approves, "A fun and interesting close to the interview."
You smile quietly to yourself.
You adopt an agreeable expression.
You say, "And perhaps necessary information, depending on how this plays out."
You nod at Aliashyrah.
Speaking to you, Aliashyrah says, "If Ta'Vaalor were to choose to act with aggression towards a visiting delegation, then my words would matter little at that point. There would be none who could argue that such an act would be a declaration of war."
Speaking to you, Aliashyrah concludes, "In times of war, there are far more important things to consider than any words I might offer."
You nod slowly at Aliashyrah.
Speaking cheekily to you, Aliashyrah adds, "And burn my journal."
Speaking to Aliashyrah, you say, "Let us hope it doesn't come to that, and such things aren't needed....indeed."
You laugh softly, trying to hide your amusement.
You nod at Aliashyrah.
You promise, "I shall."
You murmur, "After reading it."
Aliashyrah laughs softly, trying to hide her amusement.
You smile at Aliashyrah.
Speaking honestly to you, Aliashyrah admits, "I have no intention of dying, should I be sent."
You adopt an agreeable expression.
Speaking to you, Aliashyrah says, "Though I do like the question and can imagine it has offered many insights into those you have interviewed."
You appreciatively say, "It has provided a few, yes."
You chuckle to yourself.
Speaking to Aliashyrah, you say, "Thank you for making yourself available to me this evening."
Aliashyrah smiles.
Speaking graciously to you, Aliashyrah says, "I have made it an effort and focus of mine to be involved in the future of Icemule."
Aliashyrah says, "Though I do not expect to be chosen, perhaps if I am, I may continue that path and pursuit."
Speaking to Aliashyrah, you say, "We shall see. I believe you make a strong case for yourself."
You say, "I think you would make a fine selection, though there are many I could say that about. More than two, for sure."
You nod in agreement.
Speaking to you, Aliashyrah suggests, "Perhaps three could be sent along with Hazelnut, as first suggested by the Mayor."
You say, "I have thought to ask the Mayor to allow that. We have such a strong group of candidates...selecting only two seems nearly impossible."
You nod at Aliashyrah. Speaking playfully to you, Aliashyrah says, "Or we can just do what Icemule does so well and grab a <mob>, as Councillor Nodyre would call it, and all go en masse to Ta'Vaalor."
Speaking to you, Aliashyrah says, "It would be a memorable event."
You chuckle to yourself.
You say, "I think Commander Grutak might agree with that idea."
You flash a quick grin.
Aliashyrah curiously asks, "Have you had a chance to interview him yet?"
You say, "Though he would insist upon the mob being armed as well."
You shake your head.
Speaking reasonably to you, Aliashyrah says, "All good mobs must be armed. Otherwise they are merely a crowd."
You laugh softly, trying to hide your amusement.
Speaking to you, Aliashyrah says, "And no one ever had anything scandalous or interesting to say about a crowd."
You say, "Correct. A crowd is annoying, but a mob....well, a mob can achieve things."
Speaking to you, Aliashyrah says, "I should go see about a few matters, and I am certain you have some paperwork to finish."
You stand back up.
Straightening her back, Aliashyrah gives you a formal, low curtsy. She inclines her head as well, favoring you with a nod.
Speaking politely to you, Aliashyrah says, "Councillor."
You settle yourself on the mahogany chair for a moment's rest.
Aliashyrah quickly turns on the heel of one of her high-heeled boots.
Lady Aliashyrah just went through a heavy oak-bound door.
Grutak
You see High Lord Grutak Eversor the Warmonger.
He appears to be a Giantman of the T'Kirem Clan.
He is tall. He appears to be in the prime of life. He has piercing green eyes and fair skin. He has a bald head. He has a square-jawed face, a broken nose and a short beard.
He is in good shape.
He is wearing some etched vultite full plate, a dull pendant suspended by a leather cord, a heavy onyx-dyed oilcloth greatcloak, an alum-bound rat hide badge, some fringed amber gloves, an imflass threaded war harness, a striped broadcloth backpack with padded cordovan straps, a loose stone grey linen shirt laced with black leather cord, an arctic-blue armband with gold tusks, a simple blued steel wristchain, a star-cut beryl band, a green buckskin sack, an enruned snow white pouch, some black suede pants caught with horn buttons, and a pair of pale fur-cuffed black suede boots.
You settle yourself on the mahogany chair for a moment's rest.
You say, "I have taken this as my personal office."
You gaze in wonder at your surroundings.
Grutak nods slowly.
You say, "An amazing place, this keep."
Grutak gazes with interest at his surroundings.
Grutak says, "It is."
Grutak says, "Could use better defenses."
You say, "But let me not hold you up too long with idle chit chat. I know that is most certainly not your way."
You agree with Grutak.
You say, "Indeed."
You say, "A work in progress."
Grutak takes a moment to observe you.
Speaking to Grutak, you say, "I have just a few questions to ask of you, as you are wishing to join with the delegation..."
Grutak nods slowly.
Speaking to Grutak, you say, "Only five, and mostly simple in nature. The same I've asked each party."
Grutak asks, "The answers are to be made public or for you alone?"
You say, "I will share them with the Council, and as you know...word often gets out around here."
Grutak chuckles.
Grutak nods.
You flash a quick grin.
You ask, "Shall we begin?"
Grutak says, "At your pleasure."
You nod once.
You recite:
"What makes you want to take on this dangerous task?"
Grutak says, "As you say in your question, it is a dangerous mission. Having someone along that is capable of defending the delegation with his bare hands or weapons is vital to the security of the delegation."
You flash a quick grin.
Grutak says, "If you send a bunch of pacifists over, likely they'll end up dead."
Grutak says, "Or hostages."
You say, "Indeed. A valuable skill to have in such a meeting."
You nod at Grutak.
You say, "A concern I have, truly."
Grutak says, "Sending some muscle implies you are willing to fight for their freedom."
You smile at Grutak.
You adopt an agreeable expression.
Grutak says, "With the Vaalorians, perception is just as important as reality."
You rub your chin thoughtfully.
You say, "That...is a fair statement."
You nod at Grutak.
Grutak nods.
You say, "Very good, Commander. Then let us move on to the next..."
You recite:
"Why do you feel you should be chosen above the other candidates?"
Grutak says, "Certainly there are more qualified diplomats in negotiating treaties. I negotiate surrenders. Theirs, not ours. That's just the start."
You grin slowly at Grutak.
You say, "Always from a position of strength. I can surely appreciate that."
Grutak says, "Of the candidates being sent, I'm the only one willing to go to the sword if necessary to protect the civilians of Icemule."
You nod at Grutak.
Speaking to you, Grutak says, "I won't back down in a fight, even if outnumbered."
Grutak says, "That can be a war of words or steel."
Grutak shrugs.
You grin at Grutak.
You say, "Indeed. I think your reputation supports that fully."
Speaking to you, Grutak says, "There was a famous general that was asked once..."
Grutak asks, "Sir your surrounded, do you think the situation is desperate?"
Grutak says, "His response was outstanding, "Why the heck would I do that, No matter which way I shoot, I'll kill one of the bastards"."
You laugh softly, trying to hide your amusement.
Grutak says, "Negotiations are the same. No matter what they do, I can still shoot back."
Grutak winks at you.
You grin at Grutak.
You say, "Excellent. And perhaps it will be needed, we shall see..."
You say, "So that would bring me to the third of my questions.."
You recite:
"What do you see as a reasonable outcome to this conflict?"
Grutak says, "This ones tricky, because it depends on a few different presumtions."
You nod slowly at Grutak.
You listen carefully to Grutak.
Grutak says, "First, it depends on if you feel Vaalor is already being greedy."
Grutak says, "They have no reason other than "Might makes right" for the current treaty with Icemule."
You adopt an agreeable expression.
Grutak says, "Second, you have to ask if we already are at war."
You say, "Indeed. An important question on it's own."
Grutak says, "We aren't in a battle field war, but anytime a government forces another government to bow to it's wishes under threat of armed might, you are at war."
You frown.
Grutak says, "We are an occupied people even if there are no Vaalorians here."
You agree with Grutak.
Grutak says, "And it's time to launch a resistance."
You say, "I am glad you see this the same way that I, and many others in town, do."
You nod at Grutak.
Grutak nods to you.
You say, "Perhaps then, my next question has already been answered then. But I will ask it just the same..."
You say, "It is a simple question, truly a yes or a no. But you may expound upon that answer as you desire."
Grutak nods.
You recite:
"Do you believe that Ta'Vaalor's actions against Icemule have been justified?"
Grutak says, "No."
You grin at Grutak.
You say, "Straight to the point...I can appreciate that."
Grutak says, "The Vaalorians have always taken offense by the "lesser races" anytime they do anything."
You nod.
Grutak says, "That's just an excuse for their aggressive behavior."
You say, "They do seem to have plenty of those..."
You smirk.
You say, "Simple enough. Your answer doesn't surprise me, nor anyone else who might hear of it."
You nod at Grutak.
Grutak chuckles.
You say, "So let us then move to my final question. At least for now..."
You say, "An easy one, or so I thought. Though a few have mentioned it as being more difficult..."
You recite:
"If this trip to Ta'Vaalor ends in disaster, and you are not heard from again, what final words might you offer Icemule?"
You gaze with interest at Grutak.
Grutak says, "Give me liberty, or give me death."
You flash a wide grin.
Grutak nods.
You say, "And that perhaps should be carved above each of Icemule's gates."
You nod approvingly at Grutak.
Grutak says, "There are other things I could say, but that would be the most succinct."
You say, "I think that message rings loud and clear for all that are loyal to Icemule."
You say, "Perhaps our message will spread to our southern neighbors as well."
You shrug slightly.
You say, "We shall see."
Speaking to you, Grutak asks, "Do you know what the Krovlin called me after the battle at Timli Bay?"
You cock your head at Grutak.
You say, "I do not."
Grutak says, "The Leviathan."
You flash a wide grin at Grutak.
Speaking to Grutak, you ask, "And how did you earn that name amongst them?"
You say, "A bonus question, for my own curioisty."
Grutak says, "Timli bay was a sea battle."
You nod at Grutak.
Grutak says, "I was a young lieutenant on my first ship as Weapons Master."
Grutak says, "The battle raged between 2 fleets of nearly 3 dozen ships each."
Grutak says, "The last night of the battle, my ship and one other were the last ones to be afloat."
Grutak says, "The Captain, Executive Officer and all senior men killed."
Grutak says, "The keel was cracked."
You nod slowly at Grutak.
Grutak says, "The Krolvin's ship was in poor but better shape."
Grutak says, "During the night I came up with a strategy."
Grutak says, "We had a wizard on board as a prisoner, he was in shackles and knew that if he didn't help me I'd kill him and toss him overboard."
You nod at Grutak.
Grutak says, "I ordered the ship to be circle round to come at the Krovlins broadside."
Grutak says, "Told all the men to jump ship other than the Wizard."
Grutak says, "I had the wizard use call wind to propel the ship faster than the wind."
Grutak says, "Then just before we got to the Krolvin ship, I had him suck the water out from under the Krolvin, causing it to drop under our hull."
Grutak says, "Then we crashed bow first into her main deck."
You note, "This sounds both terrifying in the moment, but also quite exhilarating."
Grutak says, "I did not expect to live that."
You say, "Neither would I."
Grutak says, "The surviving Krovlin that were on the beach tell a story of a woman bringing me out of the water and laying me on the beach."
Grutak says, "Then beseeching Lorminstra to revive me as she slipped back into the water."
Grutak asks, "Do you know what a Leviathan is?"
You say, "I have heard stories...a monster, of the deep oceans."
Grutak says, "And when they are mad, nothing can stop them."
You say, "But this is all I know."
You nod at Grutak.
Grutak says, "If they want to destroy your ship, that's what's gonna happen."
You say, "I think the description seems quite fitting then."
Grutak says, "Nothing you can do to stop it."
You grin at Grutak.
Grutak nods.
Grutak smiles slightly
You say, "A fine trait in a person."
You nod approvingly.
Grutak says, "I think that young lady may be disappointed in how I turned out."
You ponder the meaning of Grutak's existence.
Grutak says, "But I'm still that warrior. I still have honor."
Grutak says, "And I will defend Icemule till the last breath leaves and the river runs dry."
Speaking to Grutak, you say, "I don't know. You are the Commander of Icemule's militia, and a great leader amongst the people here. Perhaps she might be quite proud of you."
Grutak chuckles.
Grutak says, "You'll have to ask her."
Grutak says, "I do drink with Charl on occasion though."
You say, "Let us hope I stay out of the water for the time being."
You chuckle.
Grutak says, "One for me, one into the bay, one for me, one for the bay."
You flash a wide grin at Grutak.
You say, "It is wise to keep Charl happy this way."
Grutak asks, "I trust my interview is adequate to your liking?"
You say, "Especially when playing in his realm."
You nod approvingly at Grutak.
You say, "You have made a strong case for yourself, Commander."
Grutak says, "I know I won't be selected since the vote must be unanimous."
Grutak says, "Nodyre and Gespry will veto me out of spite."
Grutak chuckles.
You say, "I shall share this with the Council, and hopefully we can soon come to a decision on the matter."
Grutak nods.
You say, "You will surely have my support, Commander. I can assure you of that."
You nod at Grutak.
Grutak says, "That's just because we agree on things."
Grutak winks.
Speaking appreciatively to Grutak, you say, "And thank you for carving time out of your day to meet with me. I am very grateful, as will be the Council."
You grin at Grutak.
Speaking to Grutak, you say, "A good foundation to any relationship."
You chuckle.
Grutak says, "I'm sure you do, and Lord Roelon, the rest..."
Grutak shrugs.
You rub your chin thoughtfully.
Speaking to Grutak, you say, "Let us see if we can change some hearts and minds."
You nod at Grutak.
Grutak says, "If not, we can cut off some heads and replace them."
Grutak grins cheerfully.
You laugh out loud!
You say, "Yes...this is always a possibility as well."
You grin at Grutak.
You nod at Grutak.
Grutak says, "And as I told Opalina."
Speaking to Grutak, you say, "I will be discussing this with the rest of the Council, so that we might take appropriate steps."
You nod at Grutak.
Grutak says, "I'm going... either way."
You grin slowly at Grutak.
Grutak says, "As a delegate, I'm more restrained."
Speaking to Grutak, you say, "I assumed that would be the case. And surely I am not fool enough to try to halt the Leviathan."
You wink at Grutak.
Grutak says, "If you can imagine me restrained."
You chuckle.
You say, "It is hard, but I know through force of will you could."
You grin at Grutak.
Grutak says, "In the meantime, I will leave you to your business Councilor."
Grutak says, "I have some sword sharpening to do."
Speaking to Grutak, you say, "We shall catch up again soon, I am sure."
You bow to Grutak.
Grutak nods to you.
High Lord Grutak just went through a heavy oak-bound door.
You settle yourself on the mahogany chair for a moment's rest.
Meliyara
You see Lady Meliyara the Ascendant.
She appears to be a Dhe'nar Dark Elf.
She is average height and has a curvy-figured silhouette. She appears to have come of age. She has sultry silver-flecked sapphire blue eyes and petal-soft, tanned skin. She has shoulder length, sleek scarlet red hair woven into a pair of cascading waterfall braids pinned by a su'chao silk fascinator encircled by a ring of enamel celestial blue scarabs. She has a perfectly symmetrical, delicately featured face, a petite, gently sloped button nose and ample hips. A tiny, circular rose-hued beauty mark sits high upon her right cheekbone.
She has an ethereal runestaff tattoo on her arm, a chain of intricate runes tattoo on her finger, several obsidian-inked rings of concentric circles on her wrist, an obsidian-caged soulstone half-ring in her left nostril, a pair of ruby teardrop earrings set along the slender tips of her pointed ears, an intricate inking of a flowering vine on her arm, and an intricate flower and vine tattoo on her neck. An outline of ethereal blue water encircles her form, the rings rising as they dissipate into the air.
She is in good shape.
She is wearing a floral brooch splaying ruby-slivered amaranth across the bust, a cross-wrapped tanzanite su'chao silk szi'bai worn snug across the chest, a quintet of alternating copper and shadow amethyst bangles, an elongated silver talon ring studded with ebon-striated vortex stones, a deep onyx woven hemp belt laced through copper triangles, a tri-strand silver waist chain, a mazarine su'chao silk szi'euk wrapped low and tight around the hips, and some scarlet leather thigh-boots lofted on faceted onyx heels.
Vibrant flora and fauna springs around her feet, dissipating into colorful mist as she moves.
A cloud of dense silvery fog suddenly appears. The fog quickly dissipates to reveal Meliyara.
You grin at Meliyara.
Meliyara greets, "She'ri."
Speaking to Meliyara, you say, "Quite an entrance."
You stand back up.
Meliyara adopts an agreeable expression.
With straightened posture and a firm chin, you present yourself to Meliyara with a short, courteous bow.
Meliyara inclines her head.
Speaking appreciatively to Meliyara, you say, "Thank you for meeting with me this day."
Speaking to you, Meliyara says, "But of course. If I cannot make time for a member of the council, I would not be much use as a delegate for the town."
You settle yourself on the mahogany chair for a moment's rest.
You smile at Meliyara.
Meliyara produces a folded cherrywood chair from the depths of her lotus silk pelisse.
Meliyara unfolds her chair and carefully places the chair on the floor.
You say, "I have but five questions I wish to ask today..."
Meliyara settles into a slant-backed cherrywood chair with her legs crossed and her arms draped across the back of the chair.
Meliyara nods to you.
You say, "These are the same I have asked of each party wishing to join the delegation."
You say, "Feel free to take as little time, or as much, as you desire with each. I am in no hurry."
Meliyara nods in agreement.
You ask, "Shall we begin?"
Speaking to you, Meliyara says, "At your leisure."
You smile.
You recite:
"What makes you want to take on this dangerous task?"
Meliyara grins slowly at you.
Speaking smoothly to you, Meliyara replies, "Can one assume it is inherently any more dangerous? Perhaps the greater danger would be to remain a visitor or resident of Icemule whilst allowing an unqualified individual to attempt diplomacy with the Vaalor."
You flash a quick grin at Meliyara.
You say, "An interesting response...it is almost as though you predicted my next question."
You chuckle to yourself.
Speaking to you, Meliyara adds, "As I noted in my letter to Councillor Opalina, though I do not reside here, I hold an affinity for Icemule Trace and its denizens. I wish to ensure that this place is kept safe and thriving."
You nod at Meliyara.
You say, "Very good."
You say, "As you presented a natural segue into my next question, perhaps we should move to that..."
Meliyara adopts an agreeable expression.
You recite:
"Why do you feel you should be chosen above the other candidates?"
You smile at Meliyara.
Speaking to you, Meliyara acknowledges, "I am not fully acquainted with each of the other candidates or their qualifications. There are among them those that are certainly seemingly well qualified."
Meliyara coyly taps the sharpened blackened eahnor tip of her silver talon ring against the corner of her bottom lip, gazing out at something unseen.
You say, "Indeed. Many are...I am finding each had a place within the spectrum of potential."
You smile quietly to yourself.
Speaking thoughtfully to you, Meliyara continues, "And so rather than tarnish any of their good names, I will simply state that I am uniquely situated to assist Icemule in this trying time. I am a resident of neither Icemule nor the Elven Nations. My people left the Elven Houses long ago, but yet we remain familiar with our wayward cousins and their customs."
You nod in agreement.
You say, "Indeed. None know the elven ways like, well...an elf."
You chuckle to yourself.
Meliyara grins at you wryly.
You say, "We shall move to my third question. And now, we are nearly halfway done..."
You recite:
"What do you see as a reasonable outcome to this conflict?"
Meliyara glances appraisingly at you.
You cock your head at Meliyara.
Speaking diplomatically to you, Meliyara says, "Why, the most reasonable outcome is to ensure that the wishes of the council and Mayor -- as Icemule's duly elected government -- are carried out as completely as possible."
You grin slowly at Meliyara.
Meliyara grins impishly at you.
Speaking to Meliyara, you say, "A wonderful answer. And one I can surely appreciate."
You chuckle to yourself.
You say, "My next question can be answered with a simple yes or no. Though of course you are welcome to expound upon your answer."
Meliyara arches an eyebrow at you, her gaze otherwise unreadable.
You recite:
"Do you believe that Ta'Vaalor's actions against Icemule have been justified?"
Speaking to you, Meliyara says, "I was not in these parts of the lands when Ta'Vaalor initially entered its so-called treaty with Icemule. From what I understand of it, however, it seems like an entirely disproportionate response to a perceived slight by a citizen acting of their own volition."
You nod in agreement at Meliyara.
You say, "Indeed. That is perhaps the thought held by the majority in Icemule."
Speaking to you, Meliyara says, "An understandable opinion to be held by those who are paying the price for the actions of one acting alone."
You nod at Meliyara.
You say, "Yes, this is very true. It is a shame that one single individual can cause so much chaos."
You shake your head, clucking your tongue.
Meliyara grins slowly.
You smile quietly to yourself.
Meliyara softly agrees, "Indeed."
Meliyara appears to be struggling to keep a straight face.
Speaking to Meliyara, you say, "And now, for my final question...I am sure you will navigate it as flawlessly as you have the others."
You nod at Meliyara.
Meliyara smiles quietly to herself.
You smile at Meliyara.
You recite:
"If this trip to Ta'Vaalor ends in disaster, and you are not heard from again, what final words might you offer Icemule?"
Speaking to you, Meliyara retorts, "Why would I possibly anticipate anything other than success?"
You laugh softly, trying to hide your amusement.
You gaze with interest at Meliyara.
You say, "Quite the optimist then, I can appreciate that."
Meliyara confidently says, "It is not mere optimism. It is faith in oneself and the Way."
You nod slowly at Meliyara.
Speaking to Meliyara, you say, "And so you will leave no words behind, because they are...unnecessary."
Speaking to you, Meliyara says, "Precisely."
You flash a wide grin at Meliyara.
Speaking to Meliyara, you say, "Confidence alone, I find, can often carry one to the finish line..."
You nod at Meliyara.
Meliyara nods in agreement to you.
Speaking appreciatively to Meliyara, you say, "You have given me much to think on, and spoken well for yourself. I will make sure what you have told me this day is known to the Council."
Meliyara inclines her head.
The petals of Meliyara's flower briefly wilt down over the stem until their light, papery surfaces come to rest against her like a hug.
Speaking to you, Meliyara says, "Sha'haisa to you and the other Councillors for your consideration."
You stand back up.
You bow to Meliyara.
Speaking to Meliyara, you say, "And thank you again for the time you have offered me."
Meliyara stands up.
Meliyara collapses the legs of her cherrywood chair and folds it up, tucking it under her arm.
Meliyara's cherrywood chair vanishes into the depths of her lotus silk pelisse.
Meliyara inclines her head.
You settle yourself on the mahogany chair for a moment's rest.
Meliyara says, "Okshi'i."
You say, "Be well."
You nod at Meliyara.
Meliyara says, "Ah dhu."
You smile quietly to yourself.
Lady Meliyara just went through a heavy oak-bound door.
Fropple
You see Fropple Undertart the Warrior.
He appears to be a Halfling.
He is taller than average. He appears to have come of age. He has blue eyes and freckled skin. He has short, curly light brown hair. He has a plump face, a button nose and bushy sideburns.
He has a skull and crossbones tattoo on his wrist, a frosted tart tattoo on his neck, and a frozen mule tattoo on his arm.
He is in good shape.
He is wearing a bright gold ring, a hooded spidersilk cloak, a Warrior Guild Master pin, a leather weapon harness, a spidersilk pack, a spiked set of halfling-crafted field plate, a spidersilk sack, and a wiregrass anklet.
Fropple just skipped merrily through a heavy oak-bound door.
You smile at Fropple.
You stand back up.
With straightened posture and a firm chin, you present yourself to Fropple with a short, courteous bow.
Fropple says, "Yes Hallos Councillor."
Folding his left arm behind his back and dipping to one knee, Fropple bows respectfully to you and inclines his head.
Speaking to Fropple, you greet, "Good day, Fropple."
Fropple says, "Many respects to you."
Fropple squeals.
You flash a wide grin.
Fropple nods.
Speaking to Fropple, you say, "And to you, for meeting with me."
You settle yourself on the mahogany chair for a moment's rest.
Fropple asks, "Yes yes, very good, how may I halps?"
Speaking to Fropple, you say, "I have had the pleasure of speaking to nearly all the candidates, and surely did not wish to miss out on speaking to you as well."
Fropple rubs his chin thoughtfully.
Fropple nods eagerly.
Fropple says, "Yes yes, I send note to a councilor when I heard the news."
You flash a wide grin.
Fropple says, "I very concern. Thought I could halp of course."
You say, "Yes, Councillor Opalina informed me of that...and that you were quite eager to take part in this mission of diplomacy."
Fropple nods.
You say, "For now, I simply have five questions for you. The same that I have asked of each..."
Fropple nods.
Fropple cracks his knuckles!
You say, "And please, I am in no hurry. Take as much, or as little time, as you need with each."
You clear your throat.
Fropple says, "Okie! Asks away."
You smile.
You nod.
You recite:
"What makes you want to take on this dangerous task?"
You cock your head at Fropple.
Fropple says, "I has much pride for Icemule, I want to do what is best. I am one of most courageous and adventurous halfling in town. As you know, many halfling content to be comfortable..."
You grin at Fropple.
You nod slowly.
You say, "Indeed. I've seen quite a few as you describe."
Fropple says, "I also friends with many, and many friends with me. I think I can convinces our neighbors to the East of the best way forward where both can gain."
You nod approvingly at Fropple.
You say, "Very good."
You say, "And perhaps in this answer, you have already answered my next question. But I shall ask it anyway of you..."
Fropple nods.
You recite:
"Why do you feel you should be chosen above the other candidates?"
Fropple says, "Yes, perhaps a toughy tough one, but we halfling are quick of hand, foot and mind, and as a halfling town, it important for Vaalor to see we are represented by its people. But very importantly, I also have some renown as one of best halfling warrior in lands. The Vaalor elfs also a warrior culture, and they will appreciate dis."
You flash a wide grin at Fropple.
Fropple knocks on a spiked set of halfling-crafted field plate.
You say, "Indeed, I have heard many say this exact thing about you...that Fropple stands as tall as a Dabbings."
Fropple strikes a heroic pose.
You say, "And considering these strengths, and perhaps your ability to sway the opinion of those in Ta'Vaalor, it brings me to my third question..."
You recite:
"What do you see as a reasonable outcome to this conflict?"
Fropple furrows his brow.
You ponder the meaning of Fropple's existence.
Fropple says, "Hrms."
Fropple says, "Yes yes, I have thought much on it..."
You nod slowly at Fropple.
Fropple says, "I has studied my books too....so we should know that Vaalor is very strong army...have even come to our defense without formal treaty...."
Fropple says, "Also that I think the treaty is sometimes overblown as an occupation, but I see it more as an easement...perhaps an apology, but to also formalize our agreement to make it more of a mutual aid treaty. They has not been aggressors to us, and sometime they even visit as guests, I see the High Lord himself sometimes."
Fropple says, "It is not a bad thing to has more friends, than less."
You smile at Fropple.
Speaking to Fropple, you agree, "Yes, friends are quite valuable. They can be used in so many ways..."
You smile quietly to yourself.
You correct, "Useful, rather. I meant useful."
You clear your throat.
You nod at Fropple.
Fropple smiles.
Fropple nods.
You say, "And with that, we are already beyond the midway point..."
Fropple nods.
Fropple inclines his ear, listening intently.
Fropple turns an inquisitive ear toward you.
Fropple rubs his chin thoughtfully.
You say, "My fourth question, it is a simple one. In fact, you may answer with a yes or a no...but of course you may expound upon that answer if you desire."
Fropple says, "Hrms...."
Fropple rubs his chin thoughtfully.
Fropple rubs his chin thoughtfully.
Fropple nods.
You smile.
You recite:
"Do you believe that Ta'Vaalor's actions against Icemule have been justified?"
Fropple rubs his chin thoughtfully.
Fropple rubs his chin thoughtfully.
You cock your head at Fropple.
Fropple says, "I would say no."
You nod at Fropple.
Fropple says, "It perhap was done under some duress."
Fropple says, "If you are referring to the concession we gave."
You say, "Indeed...this whole chaotic affair."
You nod at Fropple.
Fropple smiles.
Fropple nods.
You say, "Very good. That is surely another answer you've given that I fully support."
You smile at Fropple.
Fropple nods once.
You say, "And it brings us to the last of my questions, at least for the time being. I think this is perhaps the easiest, though a few have said otherwise."
Fropple rubs his chin thoughtfully.
Fropple nods.
Fropple nods.
Fropple says, "Oke."
You recite:
"If this trip to Ta'Vaalor ends in disaster, and you are not heard from again, what final words might you offer Icemule?"
You gaze with interest at Fropple.
Fropple rubs his chin thoughtfully.
Fropple says, "I hope that I would be not lost in vain, and that my honor be restored of course...as any warrior would want."
Fropple pounds both his fists against his chest.
Fropple gazes heavenward.
You nod approvingly at Fropple.
You say, "That is all any of us could truly ever want in that situation."
Fropple nods.
Speaking to Fropple, you compliment, "You have given many fine answers today. I will make sure your words are known by the rest of the Council as well."
You smile at Fropple.
Fropple says, "Yes Councillor, of course! I hope I can halps."
Fropple exclaims, "Hup!"
Fropple renders a sharp hand salute.
Speaking appreciatively to Fropple, you say, "I want to thank you again for your time. Both personally, and on behalf of Icemule at large. Your efforts do not go unnoticed, Fropple."
You stand back up.
You flash a wide grin at Fropple.
You bow to Fropple.
Fropple nods.
Fropple bounces around happily.
Folding his left arm behind his back and dipping to one knee, Fropple bows respectfully and inclines his head.
Fropple says, "Tankee for your time."
You say, "It has been my pleasure."
Fropple waves.
You settle yourself on the mahogany chair for a moment's rest.
You wave.
Fropple turns around.
Fropple just skipped merrily through a heavy oak-bound door.
Falvicar
You see Chronicler Falvicar Jalcon the Blade of the Night.
He appears to be a Sylvankind of the Tyesteron D'ahranal.
He is average height. He appears to be young. He has ether blue eyes and golden brown skin. He has long, sleek black hair peppered with silvery stars and tied back with a silver sword-shaped clasp. He has a delicate face, a classical nose and slightly pointed ears. Beneath each of his eyes is a sword, daubed on in kohl pigments. The blue-black blades point inward, towards one another. He is wearing a silver and white silk standard emblazoned with a black sword that juts over his shoulder.
He has a black unicorn tattoo on his wrist, a silver-edged black sword tattoo on his finger, a tattooed symbol of Ronan on his wrist, a moon and stars tattoo on his ear, and a snowflake-framed half-elven portrait tattoo on his arm.
He is in good shape.
He is holding a gnarled black ko'nag runestaff in his right hand.
He is wearing a skewed sapphire prism earring suspended from a silver stud, a silver-edged rolaren sword symbol, a flowing night-hued silk cape secured by a polished silvery clasp, a silver gossamer sack, a White Haven bear head pin, some silvery vultite cufflinks, a blue-maned black unicorn pin fending off a silver-scaled dragon, a small four-pointed azure star insignia inset with a golden drake, a silver spidersilk surcoat over some sleek black stalking leathers, a filigreed eonake wedding band with a nightscape motif, an urglaes thumb-ring, a silver-bound pure white scabbard with a decorative onyx sword affixed to it, some black silver-buckled trousers embroidered with a rearing silver unicorn on each side, and some supple charcoal suede boots with darkened silver star-shaped buckles.
Lightweaver Opalina's group just came through a heavy oak-bound door.
You flash a wide grin.
You stand back up.
With straightened posture and a firm chin, you present yourself to Opalina with a short, courteous bow.
Opalina quietly says, "Good evening Sorlu."
Speaking politely to Opalina, you say, "Councillor."
With straightened posture and a firm chin, you present yourself to Falvicar with a short, courteous bow.
Speaking to Falvicar, you greet, "And good evening to you as well, Falvicar."
Falvicar rubs his eyes.
Speaking in Sylvankind, Falvicar says something you don't understand.
Falvicar nods slowly.
You grin at Falvicar.
Speaking in Elven to you, Falvicar says, "Good eve."
Speaking in Elven, Falvicar says, "Was resting my eyes."
You say, "No worries. I find the need for that often enough."
Falvicar nods understandingly.
You say, "I appreciate your willingness to meet with me, and to answer the few questions I have put to each party who has expressed interest in joining the delegation being sent to the east."
Falvicar nods slowly.
You say, "Five questions, each I believe to be fairly simple in nature."
You ask, "Shall we begin?"
Speaking in Elven, Falvicar says, "Lets."
You settle yourself on the mahogany chair for a moment's rest.
You smile.
You nod.
A flecked pearl white lizard sitting on Opalina's shoulder sways side to side, blinking stoically.
You say, "And feel free to take as little, or as much time, as you desire."
Speaking in Elven, Falvicar says, "Depends on the question asked."
Falvicar grins at you.
You grin at Falvicar.
You adopt an agreeable expression.
You recite:
"What makes you want to take on this dangerous task?"
Speaking in Elven, Falvicar says, "I don't view this as a dangerous task with all due respect. If anything, I would call this task more delicate than anything. The people therein the Nations that I know are not warmongers and are and were actually quite friendly every time I've visited. I am just wanting to see this current issue resolved so there is no bloodshed and truly believe that Vaalor has no wish to do it either though if they did, I honestly think we'd be had by them."
You nod at Falvicar.
You say, "Indeed, let us hope you are right about the inherent risk involved here."
You rub your chin thoughtfully.
You ponder the meaning of Falvicar's existence.
Falvicar nods.
You recite:
"Why do you feel you should be chosen above the other candidates?"
Speaking in Elven, Falvicar says, "My faith is is renoun on Ronan, and Ronan protects... just as much as I am a Night Blade that serves Lord Redding of the Ronanite Order. I've lived in Trace / Pinefar for a very long time, am a full citizen, and I have my intensions already open and known. I would put Trace's interest first and stay level headed and respectful to not upset the King nor the militia therein. That means staying quiet unless spoken to. I understand I had a breakout against Grutak here in Trace during a council meeting. However; to be fair, had that been in Vaalor I'd like to think it would never have happened since Grutak would have been silenced the moment he accused Opalina without any proof whatsoever because of how organized and formal they are compared to us. Also, I speak Elven which if memory serves.. is a requirement over there."
You nod at Falvicar.
You say, "And considering what initiated that outburst, I do not hold it against you. I doubt many others would as well."
You nod at Falvicar.
Falvicar nods approvingly.
Falvicar nods appreciatively.
Opalina blushes a soft pale rose shade at Falvicar, the color darkening her whole face!
Opalina wraps her arms around Falvicar and rests her head on his shoulder.
Falvicar wraps Opalina in a tender embrace.
You say, "Very good. Those qualities seem more admirable considering this situation. Let us move to the third question, which your travels to the east may assist you in forming an answer..."
You recite:
"What do you see as a reasonable outcome to this conflict?"
Speaking in Elven, Falvicar says, "The King would accept an apology and the two cities can continue to live and let live. They are not are enemy, and we are not theirs. There's plenty of fighting to be had against the vampires, and whatnot. I personaly have no problem with them to continue to cross over Icemule air since I have no doubts if they really were after us, we would already have been taken over by them. Maybe both cities can share that air and work together and forge a strong friendship and look at this mishap as something that should not have happened since the letter (with all due respect) should have never been leaked in the first place. I'd like to think they and us can focus on the more immediate danger and just work together as a team."
You smile.
You nod at Falvicar.
You say, "Indeed. And a well thought out answer, I admit."
You say, "My fourth question is also quite easy. In fact, you may answer it with a simple yes or no. Of course you are welcome to expound upon that answer, should you desire."
Falvicar grins at you.
Speaking in Elven, Falvicar says, "I had to think put some thought into the last."
You recite:
"Do you believe that Ta'Vaalor's actions against Icemule have been justified?"
You grin at Falvicar.
Speaking in Elven, Falvicar asks, "I'll have to answer back with a question. What actions specifically?"
A tiny ship rat on Opalina's shoulder suddenly sits up, scanning the area with a mien of feral regality.
Speaking in Elven, Falvicar says, "I've been a bit under the weather, so I want to be sure I have clarity before I say yes or no."
Falvicar grins at you.
You say, "In a general sense. The chaos that has come from one single insult. Including the past so-called treaty, as well as their current actions of buzzing the town with their airships of war."
A flecked pearl white lizard sitting on Opalina's shoulder scampers across the back of her neck to her opposite shoulder.
You nod at Falvicar.
Falvicar holds up his hand and tilts it side to side in a so-so gesture.
Speaking in Elven, Falvicar says, "In the end, it was just buzzing. Nobody got killed nor hurt that I know of."
Falvicar shrugs.
You chuckle.
Speaking in Elven, Falvicar says, "If you're talking of the night I think you're talking of."
You say, "This is true. As far as I know, none have been hurt directly....yet."
Speaking in Elven, Falvicar says, "Talk is cheap."
Falvicar nods.
You nod at Falvicar.
You say, "A fair way to sum up the value of many words."
You grin.
You say, "With that...you are nearly done. In fact, I have only one final question to put to you."
Speaking in Elven, Falvicar says, "But I would take that versus them actually attacking for a warning by them. I get they were upset."
You adopt an agreeable expression.
You say, "Most definitely."
You recite:
"If this trip to Ta'Vaalor ends in disaster, and you are not heard from again, what final words might you offer Icemule?"
Falvicar ponders.
You gaze with interest at Falvicar.
Speaking in Elven, Falvicar says, "Even when everything is very dark, the Lord of Dreams is still watching. He saw us through the darkest hours when Thurfel and the Council of Ten caused chaos and believe he would do the same again should I not return. Keep my wife safe and tell Mohrgan he's the last Night Blade when a long enough time has passed with no word from me."
You nod.
Speaking to Falvicar, you say, "I think your words offer both wisdom, and are quite practical as well. A good combination, surely."
Opalina seems hesitant, looking unsure of herself.
You nod at Falvicar.
Speaking in Elven, Falvicar says, "I hope so."
Falvicar nods to you.
Speaking appreciatively to Falvicar, you say, "For now, that is the last of my questions. I am thankful that you took time from your evening to speak with me."
Speaking to Falvicar, you say, "I'm sure the Council will also appreciate this information, when we meet soon to discuss our future."
You stand back up.
Speaking in Elven, Falvicar says, "You're most welcome."
You bow to Falvicar.
Falvicar takes the edge of his night-hued silk cape and holds it out, as he bows low in a courtly fashion.
You say, "I believe there is a ball that has just begun, I don't wish to keep either of you from that."
You smile.
Falvicar smiles.
Speaking in Elven, Falvicar says, "Tis quite alright. This is more important."
Falvicar smiles at you.
You nod once.
You say, "Indeed. Selecting the right group is quite crucial."
Falvicar nods.
You say, "But you have made a strong case for yourself."
Speaking in Elven, Falvicar says, "And hopefully.. they can all be on the same page and get along."
You laugh softly, trying to hide your amusement.
Speaking in Elven, Falvicar says, "Otherwise it's for not."
Falvicar chuckles.
You say, "One prayer at a time."
You grin at Falvicar.
A flecked pearl white lizard sitting on Opalina's shoulder notices something overhead of great interest, and tries to climb Opalina's face to get at it. Opalina patiently coaxes the little creature back to her shoulder and pats its head.
Speaking politely to Opalina, you say, "And as always, a pleasure to see you, Councillor."
You bow to Opalina.
Opalina curtsies to you.
You settle yourself on the mahogany chair for a moment's rest.
Falvicar wiggles his ears.
You say, "I shall soon be at the ball myself. Perhaps I will see you both there."
Opalina nods to you.
You flash a wide grin.
Falvicar nods.
You say, "Excellent."
Speaking quietly to Falvicar, Opalina exclaims, "Come let's go get dressed!"
You grin at Opalina.
Opalina examines Falvicar closely, sizing him up and taking note of all the details.
Opalina winks at you.
Falvicar looks at Opalina and hums.
Lightweaver Opalina's group just went through a heavy oak-bound door.
You chuckle to yourself.
