Magic Sling

Magic Slings are runestaff sheaths created by GM Sindin and sold at Duskruin in Art of Lore. Slings have four possible tiers. Tiers 1 and 2 were available in the June 2018 shop and Tier 3 was released in the December 2018 shop. Sindin stated that unlocks would be made available in the future, at an unspecified time and place.

The sling holds a single runestaff, and is offered in four variants: Elemental, Spiritual, Mental and Sorcery. Each type offers different messaging when interacted with, and will vary based on the owner's Elemental Attunement (for Elemental Slings only) or Lore ranks (non-Elemental slings, and Elemental slings where the owner has chosen no attunement).


Per GM Thandiwe, if the wearer has no elemental attunement nor any lore training then the messaging will be "generic". (See her post below.)

Further, these rules apply:

- If your character uses ATTUNE to choose an element and you use an Elemental Sling, you will see messaging appropriate for the ATTUNED element regardless of your Lore trainings.

- If your character is not ATTUNEd to an element, or owns any of the non-elemental slings, and your Lore trainings are "tied" - say, 50 Religion and 50 Blessings trainings - you have a random chance at seeing EITHER the Religion or the Blessings messaging.

Analyze

You analyze the runestaff sling and sense that the creator has provided the following information:

Elemental Your runestaff sling is part of the Elemental Magic Sling group and will provide fancy messaging based on your Elemental lore trainings.
Mental Your runestaff sling is part of the Mental Magic Sling group and will provide fancy messaging based on your Mental lore trainings.
Sorcery Your runestaff sling is part of the Sorcery Magic Sling group and will provide fancy messaging based on your Sorcery lore trainings.
Spiritual Your runestaff sling is part of the Spiritual Magic Sling group and will provide fancy messaging based on your Spiritual lore trainings.
Analyze by Tier
Tier 1 It has 1 (OTS) tiers of 4 tiers unlocked at this time.
It will also allow for the following verbs to be used on it: Drop, get, pull, and push.
Tier 2 It has 2 tiers of 4 tiers unlocked at this time.
It will also allow for the following verbs to be used on it: Cover, drop, get, pull, push, and tap.
Tier 3 It has 3 tiers of 4 tiers unlocked at this time.
It will also allow for the following verbs to be used on it: Cover, drop, get, nudge, pull, push, tap, and touch.
Tier 4 It has 3 tiers of 4 tiers unlocked at this time.
It will also allow for the following verbs to be used on it: Cover, drop, get, nudge, pull, push, tap, touch, and whisper.
Restrictions on this are a little complicated when it comes to altering. It can have a show description only as one of the unlock tiers will allow it to display the weapon it carries. If you GIRD SET (weapon) and use READY LIST to select sling as your SHEATH, then GIRD, READY, SHEATH and STOW give the special messaging of Magic Sling. At the higher tiers the Elemental Magic Sling will randomize stow/draw messaging. You might be able to have a talented merchant lighten the runestaff sling for you or deepen its pockets.

Magic Sling Verb Traps

Per Thandiwe, each tier of the runestaff unlocks an additional potential message for at least some of the verbs. At Tier 1, for example, one message is available for PUT/SHEATH/STOW/DROP. At Tier 2, two messages become available for PUT/SHEATH/STOW/DROP, with a 50% chance of either message being displayed.

COVER You pantomime the motion of drawing a runestaff from your <magic sling> with a sly grin. XXX pantomimes the motion of drawing a runestaff from his <magic sling> with a sly grin.
TAP (empty sling) You tap your knuckles on your <magic sling> nervously as an anxiousness seems to consume you. XXX taps his knuckles on his <magic sling> nervously.
TAP (staff in sling) You tap on your fingertips on <runestaff> hanging from your <magic sling>, looking rather pleased with yourself. XXX taps his fingertips on <runestaff> hanging from his <magic sling>, looking rather pleased with himself.

Hello,

There seem to be some misconceptions about the Magic Sling. I'd like to help clear them up.

PUT/DROP/STOW/SHEATH - All one set of messaging
GET/GIRD/READY - All another set of messaging.

If you have a Tier 2 unlock, then you have 2 RANDOM types of messaging that cycle. 1 randomly shows for put/drop/stow/sheath, 1 randomly shows for get/gird/ready.

There are also 4 different kinds of slings: Mental, Sorcery, Elemental, Spiritual

If you have a sling that is keyed to the different type - Analyze will tell you the type - then you will get generic messaging.

ALL other verbs are the SAME for all makes of the sling.
