The disgruntled clerk can be found in the Bamboo Cottage south of River's Rest. The clerk works in the dye shop. If you ORDER from the clerk, he will tell you

"Ya hold yer dye in yer right hand, an' yer thing ya want ta color in yer left hand. If yer ain't smart enough ta do dat, I ain't smart enough ta figger out what ya want. If I wassa scholar, I'd be countin' gems in da temple, not sweatin' in dis dump."
