The Last Chapter, Display

[The Last Chapter, Display - 7110425]
Slabs of polished alabaster marble line the walls of the shop, veins of gold glistening in the pale light of a trio of silver lamps that hang from the domed ceiling. A pair of cushioned velvet-covered chairs rest on a thick carpet of woven silk that covers the elegant stone floor. Some dark mahogany bookcases that are filled with various books, tomes, and volumes line the side of the spacious room. Hanging by the entrance is a polished wooden plaque.
Obvious exits: north, northeast, northwest, out

The center of the golden mithril cover depicts a hyper-realistic onyx triumphal arch carved with miniature mythical beasts and birds, while in each of the book's corners is a piece of onyx cut to resemble a round star ruby. Curved above the arch, in jet black stylized letters edged in bluish white flames, is the title "The Jinn of the Qirnyz Gate." Below the triumphal gate, printed in smaller but still flame-edged letters, are the words "by Nazarr Csaba."

Bands of ornately patterned mithril run along the edges of each pale brown cover and the spine as well. The gak suede cover has been brushed to a fine, soft texture, and square-cut pieces of asterfire quartz adorn the corners of the front cover. Taken together, three lines of embossed script across the front read, "The Rescue of Lord Bleeds, from Yviara Na'Savar's chronicles of the early years of Eahlstan Hjeldin".

The fine black leather cover has been inset with several intricately etched pieces of deep grey mithril, forming a rather odd scene: a sleek cat reclines gracefully atop the chest of a dead cave troll, while a huge roa'ter burrows out of the earth in the background. Twin pearls shine from the volume's cover to represent the cat's tilted eyes. A line of Saramar runes has been engraved beneath the dead troll.

A heart-shaped moss agate roughly as large as a giantman's thumbprint has been set into the silvery haon cover. The tiny pieces of preserved moss within the agate match the hue of the dark green silk lining the inner cover. An oak twig bent from tip to stem in a circle has been engraved around the agate, with etched acorns and oak leaves projecting on both sides of the circle. Beneath the engraved oak-twig circle, block lettering engraved upon the fine haon reads, "A Ranger's Heart".

Green, yellow, and brown pieces of jade carved to resemble the leaves, roots, and blossoms of healing herbs have been set into the engraved mithril cover. In languidly curling script, the title reads, "A Pocket Guide to Herb Roulette" and the name "Odevalis Suhestial" has been engraved just below. Where the fine jade inlay does not conceal the mithril, the blue-grey metal has been lightly etched with images of tumbling dice and falling coins.

The front cover bears the image of two dice sitting on top of an enormous heap of coins. Such fine detail has been paid to etching the coins that the designs of their faces can even be seen, and tiny round pieces of onyx show the pips upon the dice. The spine reads, "Sixes: Instructions on How to Play the Second-Best Party Game Since Terasian Craps", and the back cover displays a dark elven woman with long braided hair as she hastily sweeps gold and gems from a table into a large open sack.

Blued vultite binding forms a solid frame to the thin book. A nameplate of the same pale metal is affixed to the front, where it contrasts sharply against the darkened suede cover. "The Immortal Company" is prominently etched upon the nameplate as tiny snowflakes swirl around in loops and whirls, and a solitary crow wings past beneath. While thin, the book is also oversized, its dimensions more appropriate to a folio than a tome.

A woman's graceful silhouette has been depicted in mithril upon the burnished scarlet cover. Her bowed head is shown in profile, finely detailed with long lashes, angular features, and several waist-length ringlets of hair slipping down from her shoulders. Tear-cut diamonds and intricate mithril traceries create the image of a delicate crown hovering above the woman's head. Below the train of the woman's gown, silvery letters read "The Fate of a Faendryl Princess, by Gowain Olberath".

Ibises, hummingbirds, kingfishers, herons, and other beautifully colored birds have been painted upon the carved ivory cover of the book. Dark-scaled snakeskin connects the front and back covers and secures the silvery pages within the volume, and the snakeskin's hue matches the hue of the inlaid spiderweb obsidian tower on the center of the front cover. Deep green jade inlay beneath the tower displays the title and author: "Chronicle of the Ivory Tower, by Chutnee BornOdepression".

Black enamel combines with shards of onyx and obsidian inlay to produce the image of a smoking, ruined city upon the blood-red cover of the volume. Jet black damask lines the inner cover, matching the hue of the destroyed city depicted on the front and the black mithril covering the spine. Two tear-cut rubies have been set along the spine, and writing engraved betwixt the rubies reads, "The Forgotten Faendryl and the Death of the Ashrim: by Ralkir Ralkir Reichtenstein".
