Vorenus Faendryl is a Basilican praetorian guard in the entourage of Ambassador Vespasius Koryth Faendryl. He was sent to the Darkstone Bay region at the beginning of 5126 Modern Era, along with several others, to provide protection for the investigators into the shadowy Ithzir invasions and the lost Palestra Blade Aralyte Halanori Faendryl. Vorenus is middle class but idolizes the sensibilities of the old money and ancient nobility.

Vorenus has internationalist views on foreign policy. He is a conservative traditionalist with respect to the House system, supporting the continuation of old imperial rights over the provinces of the Elven Empire. He has generally favorable attitudes toward House Vaalor, negative toward House Illistim, and deeply negative toward House Nalfein. He considers the Turamzzyrian Empire to be illegitimate and the Wyrdeep elves as squatters.

Appearance

A Basilican praetorian guard.

He has a crimson plumed golden helm, some golden half plate, a razor-sharp polished gladius, and a pair of dark boots.

Ambients
Vorenus eyes you warily with obvious suspicion.

Vorenus mutters something inaudible about the cold.

Vorenus turns to the other guard and chuckles, "You know what I heard Vespasius say at the Vespertine ball? Empress Selantha was a drink-sodden whiskey sponge who died when her horse fell off." He shakes his head. "The Chancellor says to him, she fell off her high horse?"

Vorenus turns to the other guard and says, "You know, I get they do not want to lose ground, having that embassy in Ta'Illistim. But then the Illistim turn around and spit in our face with the Nalfein? The Patriarch should not just let them walk all over us."
Questions and Answers
ASHRIM:
Vorenus says, "The wrong House was destroyed in that war. But they made us destroy them."

AURMONT:
Vorenus says, "What difference does it make? They go through several Emperors every century. That this one is going senile and being used by the Nalfein does not mean the next one will."

CABAL:
Vorenus says, "If they wanted us to protect them from the Horned Cabal, and other horrors of the Wastes, they should not have massacred Gellig. Now they have to get better at building walls."

CHASTON:
Vorenus says, "It is hard to have any sympathy for those elves. Chaston's Edict was just the provincials paying the price for their meddling with House Nalfein. Those lands belong to the Patriarch, anyway. They never had legal rights to them."

GOLD:
Vorenus says, "The Valley of Gold was a betrayal of Elvenkind. It was an insult to House Vaalor. It legitimized the theft of the Elven Empire." He scoffs. "There is no value in harmony between men and elves when the price is greater discord among Elves."

HORN:
Vorenus says, "The Horn of the DragonSpine is not the sovereign land of any House. It is imperial land of the Elven Empire. By what right can the Nalfein and Illistim decide for themselves what to do with it? They forfeited their provincial rights by recognizing the Turamzzyrian Empire. That treaty is totally illegitimate."

KASENDRA ACCORDS:
Vorenus says, "The Kasendra Accords are so dishonest it is hard to imagine why anyone takes them seriously. Racial harmony and peace? It is just House Nalfein manipulating yet another Emperor into conflict with House Faendryl." He scoffs. "The Illistim murder the daughter of the family trying to wall us off from the rest of the continent, and peace is made with hostile treaties at our expense instead of theirs. What absurdity!"

NALFEIN:
Vorenus says, "There is nothing wrong with Nielira Harbor that a rise in the sea level would not cure."

SENTINEL HAPPERSETT:
Vorenus says, "Word is Sentinel Happersett vanished from the battle because he got abducted into the Wastes. He was made into some kind of demon blood phylactery, and kept in an unliving nightmare for three centuries, where he had to watch us defeat him over and over again." He adds, "I know that kind of thing is illegal, but I hope they name schools after whoever did it."

VAALOR:
Vorenus says, "I do not understand why they renewed that treaty with the Illistim. Not after how Myasara subverted their Sovereign Commander in the West." He shakes his head. "The Nalfein are as treacherous and duplicitous as ever, but at least that is ever unchanging. Everyone else has completely lost their minds."
