Severina Faendryl is a Basilican praetorian guard in the entourage of Ambassador Vespasius Koryth Faendryl. She was sent to the Darkstone Bay region at the beginning of 5126 Modern Era, along with several others, to provide protection for the investigators into the shadowy Ithzir invasions and the lost Palestra Blade Aralyte Halanori Faendryl. Severina is from a prominent military family, but is not in the Armata due to nepotism laws.

Severina is staunchly imperialist in her views on foreign policy, and has an arrogant demeanor, born of her background in the upper class. She is an irredentist who supports "reclaiming" a Faendryl Empire in the West, in total disregard for the other Houses. She holds House Nalfein responsible for preventing the restoration of civilization, and blames them for the Turamzzyrian Empire existing. She considers trying to improve relations with other Houses through self-restraint as totally wasteful, and that evading military conflict with House Nalfein is self-sabotaging to Faendryl interests.

Appearance

A Basilican praetorian guard.

She has a crimson plumed golden helm, some golden half plate, and a pair of dark boots.

Ambients
Severina says, "When you fail to do what must be done because it will look bad to others, you forever stain yourself, sacrificing responsibility for vanity and inviting countless hazards."

Severina says, "They burnish their reputations as the Ashrim polished the brass on their sinking ships. House Faendryl is the sole ruler of this world."
Questions and Answers
Ashrim
Severina says, "There were a lot of causes for that war. The tragedy of Rythwier is that what he was trying to do was doomed to failure, and the price he paid for it was his own daughter. The Elven Empire cannot be rebuilt on the broken foundations that made it fall."

Decadence
Severina says, "The East is withering away in decadence, mistaking it for elegance and progress. They will eventually fall to mundane forces, or their willful ignorance of the dark arts. The Patriarch is right. We will inherit the ashes of what once was, and mourn them as a father who buries his children."

Demonwall
Severina says, "The Demonwall poses no significant barrier to the Armata, but makes severe bottlenecks for Turamzzyrian invasions. It is a very expensive way for them to shoot themselves in their own foot. When the Turamzzyrian Empire no longer exists, it will be a monument to their stupidity." As if anticipating an unspoken objection, Severina counters, "The Horned Cabal can pile bodies against the wall and bridge over it effortlessly. Demons regularly fly over it, climb it, or walk through it as if it were thin air. The Demonwall is about keeping out the 'black-hearted fiends' with our 'black elven sorcery', everything else is dishonest and sophistry."

Empire
Severina asks, "It is a waste of time trying to restore the Elven Empire by improving relations with the other Houses. It failed spectacularly. What we need to do is restore the Faendryl Empire of Korthyr, then become so immense and powerful, the East gets absorbed and disappears inside the Empire. That is what haunts the Rose Court. They do not fear the humans. They fear us. The Nalfein treat us as an existential threat, and who can deny they are right?"

Kasendra Accords
Severina says, "There is no sense in getting bent out of shape every time the Nalfein play these games. Remember when they tried to trick Emperor Rallick into invading Ta'Faendryl by burning farms and massacring human families? When you consider the whole state of things, across Elanith, this was the obvious and cynical thing to do. No one could be so naive as to think Queen Rhosyn, of all people, is a true believer in any of it."

Nalfein
Severina says, "Honestly? In some ways we are just too much alike, like vicious twin siblings, strangling each other in the crib. There is an old saying that the Nalfein are what you get when you take the Faendryl and deprive us of all our Vaalorian virtues." She thinks for a moment and adds, "Or how Vespasius words it. When you begin with a Faendryl and take away honor, integrity, and any distinguishing talent."

Northwatch
Severina says, "That alliance of big things and little things around Ice Mule Trace? These utopian schemes never work. But it might last a couple of centuries before tearing itself apart. The Vaalor should not have withdrawn from the northwest. They were totally in the right, until they capitulated to isolationists. That was always their problem dating back into antiquity. They care so much about honor, meaning how they are perceived in the Elven courts, it comes at the price of integrity."

Severina continues, "No one really believed the Vaalor still have the stomach or steel for Empire. They would have eventually left on their own. But it would have been useful to us if they had kept there longer as a backstop to Turamzzyrian expansion while we colonize Darkstone Bay."

Rhoska-Tor
Severina says, "The blackened wasteland of Rhoska-Tor is the most dangerous place in the world, as much now as it ever has been throughout history. If the rest of you understood how much you have lived in the luxury of our protection, you would only begin to understand how indebted you are to House Faendryl. You could never pay the Armata enough for what they do. There is absolutely no gratitude for this from the rest of the world."

Turamzzyr
Severina says, "The Turamzzyrian Empire is a perverse unintended consequence of House Nalfein trying to contain the Faendryl Empire. They try to make it as expensive and impractical as possible for us to restore civilization. Which is why we expand so much 'upwards rather than outwards', making ourselves the masters of other valences. It has become dangerously oversized and will need to be broken up and cut out like a tumor."

Vaalor
Severina says, "There are some who bristle over Vaalorian disdain. But many of us are frustrated and disappointed, feeling they should be on our side, except they cannot get past their jealousy and stubbornness. There is such a thing as being so honorable that it makes you stupid. They like to play soldier and get offended when the ungrateful hit back. The Sword and Shield of the Empire they are no longer."
