First you'll want to type in your character's name in the Search Box on the left side of the screen. Then search. When a page comes up saying it could not find the article for <red link> click on the red link for your character's name. Regarding your next question, let's see if I can try and paste the code for it without it adding this discussion page of your's to the category. Generally you'll want to type: [[Category: <fill in one>]] to do it. Actually, as an example I'll do it on the page for her, and then you can go and edit the page to see it.
