Quarterstaff
The quarterstaff is a basic weapon which consists primarily of a long length of wood. The quarterstaff requires two hands to hold, however, both ends of the staff can be utilized in order to deal damage to an opponent.Two-handed Weapons, such as the quarterstaff, are weapons which require both hands to grasp, thus can not be used with a shield. The weapons which belong to this group resemble weapons from many of the other groups. However, there is a distinct difference in the sheer size and weight of these weapons. In general, two-handed weapons hit a great deal harder and do more damage than one-handed edged or blunt weapons. The trade-off is less defense from the absence of a shield.
To be proficient with the quarterstaff it is strongly recommended that the user train in the two-handed weapon skill.

Game Mechanics
The quarterstaff does the least damage of the standard offensive two-handed weapons (runestaves are primarily used as defensive weapons). The advantages are its light weight and lower RT but most practitioners consider the quarterstaff less desirable than other two-handed weapons even with these advantages.
The quarterstaff weapon profile and damage table also apply to short bows, long bows and composite bows when they are used as melee weapons (right hand only).
