"Darthiir" is the Drow word for "surface elves" in the Forgotten Realms setting of Dungeons & Dragons. The word also means "traitors" and "faeries." The first use of the term seems to be page 99 of "The Drow of the Underdark" (1991). The Dark Elves of that setting live underground and have a visceral hatred for their surface dwelling cousins, supposedly having been from the hot southern jungles before being driven underground after fighting with the other elves, in the account on page 46. Despana and [[Book of Tormtor|Tormtor]] are mentioned as Drow noble houses on page 98. These are elaborated in later books. |
