Subject: Some Brief Details

Just to give some minor details to get the ball rolling.

First and foremost, this is a puzzle event. If you compare it to something like Hunt 4 History or Black Swan Castle, it's on a smaller scale. However, it doesn't require the same time investment that those events do, either.

This event will be a change of pace from our most recent event lineup. There will be no shops. There are no random item drops. There are no tickets or scrip. There will not be any items to sell or trade to others. There is no combat.

The reward is a single item that can be gradually improved by subsequent puzzle completions, which will make the item more effective. There will also be field experience earned as you continue to progress through puzzles.

Brush up on your lore and historical knowledge if you're still interested! Maybe visit an escape room or two!

To further expand on what GM Haliste said, our lead times per event were dramatically reduced in the recent years as well as the events we produce were tripled. The Events team has a primary project load that consists of working on these events, but there isn't many of them. In turn though, events are contained to the Events team outside anyone who wishes to pitch in. That means anything we work on here doesn't impact game development or storyline progression. Right now though, it means we don't have the hands to discuss things because we typically are working on these things up until a week before the event is released.

We have a lot more leeway with discussing things on the forums this year than in previous years though. Prior to 2018, we had some issues with posting before our mailers. Luckily, we're moving back into a direction where we'll try to get announcements out sooner. But Rings of Lumnis is a brand new event, and it's requiring more attention than, say, Ebon Gate.

Circling back to what GM Haliste said, it would be helpful to know what information you'd like to know more about. This event is going to be a puzzle event in bite-sized pieces. Think of a H4H puzzle squeezed down into something you can solve in a few minutes. It will be similar to how our events run these days. There will be entries in the SimuCoin Store for roughly 100 SimuCoins. There are no shops or scrip earned here. There is nothing for resale. The quest reward attunes to your character. You can get the base reward right from the start and do not need to pickup any SimuCoins. If you want it to be more powerful, that's when the event side of things kick in.

We are also introducing an area to the game that was only talked about in certain areas back in the 90s. It's only a tiny portion of that area, but this release will let us expand the area beyond this event. New areas also take a lot of time to get up and running. We've gave some of those details already though, so I doubt you want me to bore you there.

Quest Reward

Subject: Quest Reward

We're doing something a bit different this event, where the item awarded for completing the quest is a single piece that you have the option to continually improve. Each puzzle "ring" (Planar, Spiritual, Elemental, Chaos, Order) will have a specific benefit. You can only have one benefit active at any given time, and the benefit can only be changed at the event. Once the event ends, the active benefit on your item is the benefit you will have until the next run.

What are the benefits? There are five.

Planar Larger experience bucket.
Spiritual Instant experience absorption.
Elemental Adv. Guild performance boosts.
Chaos Random selection of benefit with a twist.
Order Bonus Bounty Points.

The potency of the bonuses scale as you continue to run the trials. This item needs to be activated in order to receive the bonus; it's not an "always on" benefit. This item also attunes to your character, and you must have an attuned (and worn) item in order to enter the puzzle rings.

When you use QUEST to be transported to the Needle of Pentas, you'll be confined to this area of the Isle of Ornath. There is some exploration that anyone can take part in, whether you want to participate in the event or not. There are five teleportation disks, Planar, Spiritual, Elemental, Chaos, and Order, that will bring you to Liabo. Each section will have a ring you enter which is where the trials take place. This is where you'll need a scholar's card and a brooch (the relic). You are awarded an increment to your brooch upon entering the puzzle area, win, lose, or surrender. The increment is only good for the "ring" you're entering. For example, entering Planar will increment the Planar benefit by +1. If you want to increment the Elemental benefit, you'll need to visit the Elemental "ring" to try your knowledge (and maybe luck) there. Solving the puzzles will award field experience. Hopefully they are both entertaining and challenging as well.

The brooch is a pin worn item that has 5 benefits. The benefits can be changed at this event via the TURN verb. Once the event ends, the benefit selected is locked in until next time Rings of Lumnis comes around. No progress is lost on the brooch if you select a different benefit. The brooch also unlocks verbs that do cosmetic changes to your character as well as additional messaging for your relic after completing a number of increments to your brooch.

The brooch can be upgraded quite a bit. It starts out gaining benefits very rapidly, but slows downs as the potency becomes stronger.

Bonus Per Run Number of Runs Total Bonus
+10 10 runs +100
+5 20 runs +100
+4 25 runs +100
+1 200 runs +200
+1 200 runs +100
+1 400 runs +100
+1 500 runs +100
+1 1000 runs +100
Totals 2405 runs +1000

Planar, Spiritual, and Order take the total you have and directly add it to the benefit. Elemental is a bit different in that the number translates to a percent bonus where +100 equals 10 (always rounding down). Chaos will randomly select one of the other benefits with a chance to be up to 10% more of a bonus.

As a further example, after 250 runs, the bonus is 545. So for Planar, it increases your field exp bucket by 545. For Spiritual, you can instantly absorb 545 exp. For Elemental, you have a 54% chance for an improved roll on various Adv. Guild tasks. For Chaos, random between one of the other benefits using Chaos's increments, then you have 545 + random 1 to 54 for an addition bonus. For Order, you get +545 bounty points for completing an Adv. Guild task.

The brooch MUST be activated to use. Spiritual is instantly used. The others stays active for thirty (30) minutes. The brooch starts off at 1x/day, but with many runs, you can begin to gain additional uses. Gaining extra uses takes the entire's brooch's progress into account, not just the specific benefits, as does unlocking verbs. Don't worry about memorizing the numbers. We have a detailed ANALYZE on the item that will tell you exactly where you are with the benefits.

The brooch is account attuned, but passing the brooch off is completely your responsibility.

Successful Completion of Puzzles and Trivia

Subject: Successful Completion of Puzzles and Trivia

Shortly after opening, a few people voiced some concerns about the rewards on successfully completing trials. This is strictly talking about the end reward of experience, not the incremental additions to the brooch. When we created this event, we wanted to move away from the itemization issues that arise. We also wanted to move away from the random rewards that always become a hot topic.

It's difficult to reward success without itemization in GemStone IV. As much as we try, we always end up circling back to it. At the end of the day, we want to give people a rewarding experience when they complete our quests, which in this case is puzzles and trivia, instead of surrendering or giving up.

So starting at the time of this post, successfully completing both puzzles and trivia will award a prize on top of the experience. The common prize will be lightening notes. The uncommon prize will be deepening notes of different varieties. And a rare prize will be an RPA orb. If you have a free hand, it will be delivered right to you. If you don't, it will be on the ground.

Those that have already run, we aren't letting you come up empty handed. Just ASSIST, GM Haliste or myself will get you a small prize pack so you're not being short changed due to the updates.

Brooch Updates

In just a moment, we'll be rolling an update to the brooch to make it a bit more user friendly and will let the progression of the benefits flow a little better.

The brooch can now be set to another benefit once a month outside of the Rings of Lumnis event. You can still change it as much as you'd like at the Rings of Lumnis event, but if you want to change it to something outside of the event, you will need to make your way to the DragonSpine Fane and seek the niche dedicated to Lumnis there. You will have an hour after you make the decision to change it if you want to change it back, but after that, there is a month cooldown.

The other update is the progression when you get more usage per day. It is now:

1x/day 0
2x/day 100
3x/day 300
4x/day 750
5x/day 1500
6x/day 2500
7x/day 4500
8x/day 7000
9x/day 10000
10x/day 12025

Enjoy the updates, we'll have some more updates to the event soon!

Couple quality of life fixes for the brooch.

You can no longer use up a charge if you have the brooch set to an orb that has no incremental benefits.

The next is an update to fill the 500 total increment spot that was pushed down to the 300 total spot. The concept was something we've talked about a bunch during the development of the item. When Liabo is a full moon, the benefit will get a bonus. The first one is at at 500, which will grant an additional 10% bonus to your brooch. The next is a longer ways out at 3500, but it will be 20% at that point.

Liabo has a very short orbit at just over 7 days (7.3 days) and lasts roughly 29.2 hours. A carefully timed usage can get some extra mileage out of the brooch with these full moons.

There have been a handful of requests for the event to be extended or left often due to the changes that were made toward the end of the week. We're not trying to frustrate or upset anyone with the last minute updates to the brooch, but we also want to make sure you're happy with the quest reward. Most the changes were quality of life ones, as player feedback is vital.

While we cannot leave the event open indefinitely or even monthly, we'll leave it open for another week. The new closing date is May 6th at 11:59pm EDT.

Did you hastily choose one ring over another to run your trials? Did you choose one ring and then later decide you wish you'd selected another? Do you just not like your current ring? Today is your lucky day!

Ask the monk in the foyer about EXCHANGE. She'll let you know what to do from there. Be advised that this service does come at a cost of 50,000 silvers per transferred run.

Yes, that's correct. 50k for every run you want to move from one ring to another.
