a bejewelled golden-winged serpent

Show

Tiny emeralds overlap like scales along the sinuous, coiled body of this beautiful reptile. Brushed gold wings extend to either side, displaying a mosaic of colorful gems set in intricate patterns along each graceful feather. The eyes are made from dark rubies, and a forked tongue of gold wire extends just past its blunt nose.

Loresong

The serpent turns its head to look at you, opens its jaw wide enough to display a set of sharp golden fangs, and sings back:
Beware the serpents in the moor
Don't disturb their lairs
On darkest nights take care that you're
Always out in pairs.
Its ruby eyes burning like coals, the serpent softly hisses:
Brightly feathered wings with eyes
Rainbow-sparkling crests
The beauty of the serpent's guise
Belied its true interests.
Swaying its head from side to side, the serpent croons in response:
Killing roosters, felling cats
Hoarding jewels and gold
The winged serpents swarmed like bats
And could not be controlled.
Fixing you with its gaze one last time, the serpent sings in a sorrowful tone:
Though once seen by waterfalls
Or glimpsed 'round ancient barrows
Death did claim them one and all
Like poor, defenseless sparrows
The serpent remains silent and motionless.
