The Pleco, Dive Bar

The prominent feature of this dim, compact space, is the short walnut bar lined with some squat bar stools bolted to the floor, providing beverages and respite along the far wall. Behind it, shelves rise to the ceiling displaying an assortment of colored bottles in all shapes and sizes. Rows of brass pipes run overhead and along the walls, punctuated by the odd knob or valve handle. A half dozen ale kegs are strapped to the floor behind the bar, lashed together with thick leather belts. You also see a standing vertical ladder and a wheel-handled hatch.

short walnut bar The surface of this bar has been lacquered many times, creating a thick, yellowed, translucent finish over the walnut grain.

old brandy cask The inside of this thick-walled cask has been stained with aging brandy for years, which also taints the smell of the wood. Set up in front of the cask is a neatly lettered chalkboard listing the prices of the wares displayed on top and contained within.

In the old brandy cask you see: some restored Ashrim-crafted boots, some restored Ashrim-crafted gloves, a supple white chain shirt set with an aquamarine wave crest, some supple white chain set with an aquamarine wave crest, a snug mithril helm embossed with wave crests, a sharply-angled silver harpoon etched with cresting waves and a sleek gold trident with a thick crossguard below the tines.

The Pleco, Control

Dimly glowing orbs line the ceiling of this compact space that smells faintly of brine and polish. Brass tubes run the length of the walls, parting at angles around a brass porthole window, then reconnecting on the other side, some ending at tanks bolted to the wall, others disappearing into the bulkhead. Secured to the wall amongst the maze of tubing is a brass-framed portrait. At the center of the space, a squared wooden chair swivels between a knob-covered wood control panel and a brass and walnut music box. Descending from the ceiling is a shiny bronze tube ending with a glass eyepiece. You also see a wheel-handled hatch.
