The Mad Manners Manual is a fluff script that applies to miscellaneous items. It was originally released at Ebon Gate November 2026 by Zenuoie. The following facets are able to be customized by a merchant: description per book. An etiquette manual holding three books in one spine. It can also store tableware designs and transfer them to a Tier 5 Basketifier.

Analyze

The Mad Manners Manual (also known as Miss Manners' Mad Manual)
A thread-bound etiquette manual is a book of etiquette with three books bound into one spine. It is currently showing Zelia's Guidebook to the Celestial Table.

You may OPEN, CLOSE, READ, TURN, FLIP, LOOK at, and SHOW the manual to others. Zelia's pages will not stay in order; each READ recites one of her rules at random.

PINCH the spine while holding it to cycle to the next book: Zelia's Guidebook to the Celestial Table, A Treatise on the Proper Governance of the Table, or Rai'kan: A Guide to the Erithi Tea Ceremony. The page resets to the beginning whenever the book changes.

ADD a registered tableware item TO the open pages while holding both, and its design becomes an illustration in the book. The item is consumed, so you will be asked to ADD again to confirm. A new illustration of the same kind replaces the old one. Each noun is illustrated as one kind of tableware:
    Fork: fork
    Spoon: spoon
    Knife: knife
    Chopsticks: chopsticks, chopstick
    Teaspoon: teaspoon
    Plate: plate
    Saucer: saucer
    Napkin: napkin
    Teapot: teapot, kettle
    Teacup: teacup, tea-bowl, teabowl
    Pitcher: pitcher, jug, ewer
Glass: beaker, chalice, cup, flute, glass, goblet, tumbler, wine-bowl
    Carafe: carafe, decanter
    Mug: mug, tankard, stein
    Serving Bowl: crock, tureen, urn
    Bowl: bowl
    Platter: platter, salver, tray, trencher

POINT the manual AT a Tier 5 Basketifier, and each illustration replaces the basket's design of the same kind, one for one. Only tableware the basket already holds (unlocked with its voucher) can be replaced; the rest stay in the book. You will be shown what will transfer and asked to POINT again to confirm. Illustrations that transfer leave the book. The manual can transfer illustrations once per day, resetting at midnight.

There are no tableware illustrations within the manual yet.

The title and the three books within cannot be altered, though a merchant may change the manual's description by giving each title a unique LOOK and LONG. Please keep the noun synonymous with manual.

LOOK {manual} Any You see nothing unusual. -

You gently close your etiquette manual. As the pages fall closed, a silk ribbon bookmark inside your manual ensures that you will not lose your place when the time comes to read again.
You open your etiquette manual to the position marked by a silk ribbon bookmark nestled between the pages.

Changing Books

PINCH the manual to switch to the next book. The books cycle in this order:

  1. Zelia's Guidebook to the Celestial Table: READ recites one of Zelia's rules at random. Its pages cannot be turned.
  2. A Treatise on the Proper Governance of the Table: 19 pages, read in order with READ, TURN, and FLIP.
  3. Rai'kan: A Guide to the Erithi Tea Ceremony: 18 pages, read in order with READ, TURN, and FLIP.

Changing books returns to the first page.

Verb Target State First Third
PINCH {manual} Held You lightly pinch the spine of the manual, causing the thread-bound letters upon it to scramble and shift. After a moment, they settle, and the title reads "A Treatise on the Proper Governance of the Table." Firstperson lightly pinches the spine of his etiquette manual, causing the thread-bound letters upon it to scramble and shift.

Zelia's Guidebook

Verb Target State First Second Third
READ {manual} Open, held Your eyes rove the pages of your etiquette manual, capturing all the wisdom contained within with frenetic glee. Unbidden, the wisdom spills from your lips, "Never use a bread knife to cut bread; instead offer the loaf three sincere compliments, and the bread will divide itself along astrological fault lines." - Firstperson's eyes rove the pages of his etiquette manual, the whites showing at the edges with a kind of frenetic glee. "Never use a bread knife to cut bread; instead offer the loaf three sincere compliments, and the bread will divide itself along astrological fault lines." spills from his lips, along with an unsettling giggle.
TURN or FLIP {manual} Open, held You try to turn the page, but the pages of the manual shuffle themselves out of your fingers and settle wherever they please. Zelia's wisdom, it seems, arrives in no particular order. - Firstperson flips through his etiquette manual.
SHOW {manual} TO {person} Open, held You turn your etiquette manual around and display its pages to Secondperson. Firstperson turns his etiquette manual around and lets you glimpse its pages...
The handwriting crawls across the page in a spiral. One line stands out: "Never use a bread knife to cut bread; instead offer the loaf three sincere compliments, and the bread will divide itself along astrological fault lines."
Firstperson turns his etiquette manual around and displays its pages to Secondperson.

FLIP says "flip back a page" instead of "turn the page".

The Treatise and Rai'kan

A Treatise on the Proper Governance of the Table and Rai'kan: A Guide to the Erithi Tea Ceremony are read one page at a time. READ displays the current page. TURN moves forward a page and FLIP moves back. TURN {manual} TO {number} jumps to that page.

Verb Target State First Third
READ {manual} Open, held (The text of the current page is displayed.) Firstperson quietly reads his etiquette manual.
TURN {manual} Open, held You turn to page 2 of your etiquette manual. Firstperson flips through his etiquette manual.

Tableware Illustrations

While holding the open manual and a registered piece of tableware, ADD the tableware TO the manual. The first ADD warns you; ADD again within 30 seconds to confirm. The tableware is consumed and its design is stored as an illustration. The manual holds one illustration of each kind (see the Analyze list), and a new one replaces the old. The tableware must be empty. Its script, if any, is not carried into the illustration.

Verb Target State First Third
ADD {tableware} TO {manual} First attempt As you bring your silver fork close to the open pages of the manual, you realize that the fork will be completely consumed by the process. If this is acceptable, then ADD fork to manual again in the next 30 seconds. -
ADD {tableware} TO {manual} Confirmed You lay your silver fork upon the open pages of your etiquette manual, watching as it becomes ethereal and descends into the manual's pages. When you look again, you can see that it has become an illustration on the page beneath where it was. Firstperson lays his silver fork upon the open pages of his etiquette manual, which seems to cause the fork to become ethereal and to be absorbed by the manual.

If the manual already holds an illustration of that kind, the warning adds: "Its illustration will replace the one of a gold-tined fork already within the manual."

Transferring to a Basketifier

While holding the manual and a Tier 5 Basketifier, POINT the manual AT the basket. Each illustration replaces the basket's design of the same kind. An illustration is only transferred if the basket already holds a design of that kind (unlocked with its voucher); the rest stay in the manual. The first POINT shows a preview; POINT again within 30 seconds to confirm. Transferred illustrations leave the manual. Each manual can transfer once per day, resetting at midnight.

Verb Target State First Third
POINT {manual} AT {basket} First attempt You point your etiquette manual at the basket, hoping the illustrations will help you add new designs to your basket. You sense that the following update will happen:

Fork  : a silver fork [replaces the current design]

If you wish to confirm, please POINT the manual at the basket again in the next 30 seconds.
-
POINT {manual} AT {basket} Confirmed You point your etiquette manual at the basket with anticipation, and slowly the illustrations within begin to materialize in the air between the two. One by one, the designs rise off the pages and disappear into the body of the basket.

[OOC NOTE: 1 design(s) replaced and cleared from the manual. You can now GAZE at the basket to see your tableware.]
Firstperson points his etiquette manual at his wicker basket with an anticipatory air. Slowly, illustrations from within the manual rise off the pages and slip one by one into the basket.
