Malevort Hexmor Faendryl is the lead Basilican Sorcerer, which makes him the Arch Chancellor of the Clerisy. Malevort is a first cousin of Korvath Dardanus Faendryl, Patriarch XXXIX of House Faendryl. Malevort has regulatory powers over the sorcerous laws, which ultimately derive from the authority of the Patriarch. This involves some complicated overlapping jurisdiction with the Prefect of the Palestra. Malevort has been said to not get along "terribly well" with Dracovir. But that this is "by design", as they have to vie for the favor of the Patriarch. House Faendryl considers the sorcerous laws to be "universal," and has a history of disregarding the sovereignty or jurisdiction of other countries. This includes sending Palestra into Ta'Illistim in 5103 Modern Era, the extraordinary rendition of sorcerous criminals, and effectively deputizing "wandering" Palestra from the Faendryl diaspora in the outlands.

The Basilican Sorcerer has law enforcement powers over the Clerisy and regulates such things as summoning laws, valence prohibitions, monitoring for veil breaches, and intervention or shadow control over the sorcery that is distributed throughout the continent by sorcerer guilds. This notably includes knowledge of demonic summoning, as well as concealment methods, designed to subvert local laws banning minor demons. While the Patriarch himself authorized the Common language abridgement of the Enchiridion Valentia, Malevort directed the release of more powerful methods of Sacrifice.

Storylines

In the fall of 5125 Modern Era there was a massive shock wave in the veil, which was caused by the soulstone of the lost Palestra Blade Aralyte Halanori Faendryl interacting with Melgorehn's Reach. There were invasions of shadows and what appeared to be Ithzir. Thagoria Vespiria Faendryl found there was some reason to believe Aralyte still survives in the Shadow Realm valence. Malevort was mentioned as one of the possible figures who could end up in control of the situation. Thagoria was personally directed by Malevort to spread a more powerful sorcerous Sacrifice method through the sorcerer guilds, nominally because it makes shadow essence, which would have allowed sorcerers in the outlands to have recharged Aralyte's soulstone themselves a long time ago if they had known how to do it.

Appearance
