A miniature painting that allows the user to teleport into the nearest town center. It is also known as Kodos' painting because its original owner was the legendary wizard, Kodos Corallias

Properties

  • All actions must be done while holding the painting.
  • The wielder may LOOK at the painting to see the town center they are nearest to, and will alert people in that room that you are watching them.
  • The wielder may GO into the painting to teleport to the town center they are nearest to.
  • There is no roundtime involved in any of these actions.
  • There is no limit to any of the actions the painting can perform.
  • There is no possibility of failure using the item.
  • No magic item use is required to use the item.
  • Teleporting will work in any room in the game, including rooms where rings don't work, and even underwater. However, the painting cannot see town centers from the Locksmehr trail, the cart rides into and out of Zul Logoth, Zhindel's Post, and Whistler's Pass.

Power Reduction

  • The painting did not used to be required to be in your hand, so it could be set upon the ground or in a container and walked through by anyone.
  • The painting used to allow cross-realms transport if you had Four Winds Isle access; using the painting on the isle would teleport you to Wehnimer's Landing.
  • Gazing at the painting no longer functions as described previously. Now, in order to observe which town center you will move to, you have to LOOK at or EXAMINE the painting. The look displays to those who are in the town center. GAZE has been reverted to standard use "You gaze in awe at the miniature painting in your hand."

Usage

Looking at or examining the painting

You gaze intently at the miniature painting, you realize the work is so equisitely done that it almost seems a window has opened. You recognize the scene as Town Square Central. You feel as if you could step into the painting and join the living scene presented to you, so real is the artist's work.

[Town Square Central]
This is the heart of the main square of Wehnimer's Landing. The impromptu shops of the bazaar are clustered around this central gathering place, where townsfolk, travellers, and adventurers meet to talk, conspire or raise expeditions to the far-flung reaches of Elanith. At the north end, an old well, with moss-covered stones and a craggy roof, is shaded from the moonlight by a strong, robust tree. The oak is tall and straight, and it is apparent that the roots run deep. You also see some stone benches with some stuff on it.

In room when painting is being looked at or examimed

You have the most curious feeling of being watched. Gazing about, you look upwards and stand frozen for a moment, like a figure in a painting, as you perceive a face, stretching from horizon to zenith gazing intently at you. You cover your eyes and cower in fear, exposed like an ant on a plate. When you look again, the image is gone as if it had never been and you wonder just what it is you saw.

Going through the painting

You find yourself floating in space, a tiny mote in an infinite canvas. The painting looms before you, growing larger and larger until it dominates the universe and fills the sky from horizon to horizon. You feel yourself drawn into the painting and, for one moment, your very perspective changes and you feel a part of the artwork itself. The painting becomes your world and your world is being held by a cosmic giant who peers down at you with curiosity and wonder as you fall endlessly through the void into the work of a madman, a genius or a cruel god.

3rd person watching someone go through the painting

XXXXXX suddenly strides forward and seems to shrink before your very eyes! As she dwindles to a point and is gone, your eyes are drawn to the fleeting image of a huge painting, so very enormous that the canvas fills the universe and a pair of unblinking eyes gazes down at it intently. Then the image is gone, along with XXXXXX and you are left wondering what it is you saw.

3rd person watching someone arrive through the painting

You have the eerie feeling of being watched, of cosmic eyes gazing intently at your every movement. A chill passes over you and you shudder. Then, before you can draw breath, the eyes dwindle and fade, to be replaced by the growing form of XXXXXX who seems to be stepping out of a painting floating in mid-air. Larger and larger she grows, until she stands before you, living and breathing. The image of a painting is gone now and only XXXXXX remains in its place.
