The following is a log of a lecture delivered on Sunday 25th May as part of the Mist Harbor Library lecture series. Perigourd Sabretache was the guest speaker.

Topics covered in the lecture series must be lore-based but are otherwise left to the discretion of the speaker(s). This lecture discusses fish of northwest Elanthia.

The log has been edited to remove excess noise and chatter but some engagement and digression have remained to reflect the audience participation and subsequent discussion.

[Library, Meeting Hall - 29806] (u3223132)
A trio of wide stairs lead down from a wide archway into this brightly lit room. A small podium stands atop a small dais opposite the archway, and several cushioned benches have been arranged throughout the space, each offering an excellent line of sight. A number of elliptical windows line the walls of the hall, and a rich crimson-patterned carpet covers the entirety of the floor underfoot. You also see a woven cornucopia of faewood twigs, the repousse copper Riend disk raised in leafy designs, the malachite Yunni disk, a makeshift table of linden planks propped on stacks of old books with some stuff on it and a small table with some stuff on it.

You softly greet, "Good afternoon everyone!"

You softly exclaim, "How lovely to see all the familiar faces and some new ones too!"

You softly say, "Welcome all to the Mist Harbor Library."

You softly begin, "As the Library's Loremaster, it gives me great pleasure to once again welcome you to another in our lecture series."

You brightly explain, "As I'm sure you are all aware by now, the aim is to provide a platform for imparting knowledge and encouraging discourse."

You softly exclaim, "And we have had quite a diverse range of lectures over the years!"

You gently remind, "I ask that everyone be considerate to the speaker, as well as those who comment or ask questions."

You softly continue, "All opinions are welcome and indeed encouraged, as long as they are courteously expressed."

You softly say, "I am delighted that our speaker agreed to be here today, he has been in the top five of my wish list for quite some time and I have managed to pin him down...or, should I say, reel him in."

You softly continue, "So, without further ado, please give Perigourd Sabretache a warm Library welcome."

[APPLAUSE]

Perigourd leans against a small podium.

Perigourd carefully sets a woven cornucopia of faewood twigs down.

Perigourd says, "First I'd like to thank everyone for attending and I hope that you enjoy what I call..."

Perigourd recites rousingly:

   "Fish of Northwest Elanthia!"

Perigourd lets loose a loud whoop of delight.

Perigourd continues, "It is my hope to provide some insight into some of the beautiful and interesting fish that stock the ponds, rivers, and oceans of the northwest."

Perigourd says, "Though there are quite many so, we have a selection."

Perigourd recalls, "Much of the sport fishing we see today began over a decade ago with the first tournaments in the northwest such as those held at Tyramia Hollow, a local neighborhood outside of Ta'Illistim. Since then the prominence of coveted fishing spots and the breeds of fish found at various locations has grown exponentially to where hardy anglers challenge themselves often to acquire fish of renown, both in and out of competition."

Perigourd removes a damascened kelyn-framed painting etched with aureate ships from in his green leather cloak.

Perigourd casually says, "I thought today we would start with this silver beauty."

Perigourd raises his kelyn-set painting proudly, displaying it for you to see.

Elongated passes of the brush depict the mackerel, with its shiny silver coloring that appears like a dagger, in fish form, that tapers out at both ends. Its tail spears out into a sharp curve, and its dorsal fins, which show five finlets, are separated by a wide space. Dark blue spreads over its head and then splinters into thin and wavy lines across its back, lending a distinctive coloring to the mackerel.

Perigourd recites forcefully:

   "The Kezmonian Mackerel!"

Perigourd says, "The Kezmonian Mackerel is well known to the fish markets of Tamzyrr and Fairport, as well more locally in Solhaven and Darkstone bays."

Perigourd says, "In the days before Kezmon Isle sank, it was common for the fisheries of Kai Toka to take much of their mackerel to market to Tamzyrr, but the meat of the mackerel decays quickly so it was a common practice for them to be heavily plied with salt in order to preserve them during the journey."

Perigourd ponders.

Speaking to himself, Perigourd says, "Perhaps it didn't sink exactly though.."

Perigourd amusedly says, "This eventually led to the saying "as salty as a Kezmon" amongst Tamzyrrian sailors though whether it was in relation to the fish or the language proffered them by their counterparts from Kai Toka over trade terms is unknown."

Perigourd turns a tangle of tiny golvern roots under the golvern leaf-clasped plate of his faewood tackle box, and the frost around the box's tree-embossed lid rapidly melts away. The faewood tackle box's lid suddenly swings open!

Perigourd removes a silver Kezmonian mackerel from in his faewood tackle box.

Perigourd raises his Kezmonian mackerel high into the air, displaying his catch for all to see!

Perigourd offers you a silver Kezmonian mackerel.

Speaking to you, Perigourd says, "We can pass this around."

Speaking to Perigourd, Kippe says, "That's a beauty."

You accept Perigourd's offer and are now holding a silver Kezmonian mackerel.

You blink at Perigourd.

Yunni bends over her book and begins writing with her quill. After a moment, she lifts her head and scans back over what she has written with a critical eye.

Traiva quietly asks, "Must we?"

A pained expression crosses Traiva's face.

Perigourd says, "The lines and stripes on the Kezmonian mackerel known as "schooling marks" are used by its compatriots to help keep order within the school, being used as visual guides for alignment."

Lucraine says, "Oh I wanna hold it."

You glance warily at the Kezmonian mackerel in your hand.

Evii surprisedly notes, "It's bigger than I expected," she makes a face then adds quickly, "...from the painting you showed... I mean."

Traiva can offer Lucraine only a blank expression.

Perigourd nods approvingly.

You offer your Kezmonian mackerel to Lucraine.

You wrinkle your nose.

Perigourd removes a spiky rolaren-caged painting decorated along the sides with emerald symbols from in his green leather cloak.

Arbeia starts chuckling at you!

Perigourd says, "And for our next fishy friend I would like to present..."

Perigourd recites unabashedly:

   "The Vornavian Sheepshead!"

Speaking to Evii, Missoni says, "How odd. I find usually fish are small in person."

Perigourd raises his rolaren-set painting proudly, displaying it for you to see.

Depicted in fine detail, the large blocky teeth are visible in the sheephead's wide mouth, which is lined with a wide upper lip. Its body is narrow in width in comparison to its length, and it bears a long dorsal fin that fans out from a short, irregularly ridged shape to finish off in a longer, slightly curved edge. The sheephead's large scales are painted with a uniform red hue, which appears nearly pink. A small daub of black dots just the top of the dorsal fin.

Issalya gazes with interest at Perigourd.

Speaking quietly to Missoni, Evii admits, "I... don't mess around with... fish much."

Perigourd removes a pinkish red Vornavian sheepshead from in his faewood tackle box.

Speaking sheepishly to Evii, Missoni says, "I mostly eat them."

Evii nods appreciatively at Missoni.

Arbeia says, "As cakes."

Perigourd says, "A regular staple on the dinner table of the fish savvy in Solhaven, the Vornavian sheepshead is known for its mild sweet flavor in part due to its diet. Its blocky human-like teeth allow it to crush the shells of crustaceans, clams, and other bivalves from which it feasts."

Arbeia nods at Missoni.

Missoni agrees with Arbeia.

Ordim nods slowly.

Perigourd pats the Vornavian sheepshead in his hand.

Evii raises her hand.

Evii shoots her hand into the air, waving it frantically, then uses her other hand to raise it even higher, her entire body wiggling with excitement.

Perigourd offers Evii a pinkish red Vornavian sheepshead.

Evii screams!

Evii declines Perigourd's offer.

Perigourd chuckles.

Missoni winces.

Evii says, "No."

Issalya gives a sidelong glance at Evii.

Evii says, "I just had a question."

Perigourd annoyedly says, "They also have a tendency to be difficult to catch as they like to steal bait from the hook, though even on the line they become quite hard to land due to their typically large weight. Unlike their cousin, the black-banded sheepshead, the Vornavian is known for its deep red hue with a black tip on the dorsal fin."

Arelder flushes slightly, some color reaching his cheeks.

Evii disgustedly whines, "Don't make me touch it."

Speaking to Evii, Perigourd says, "Only if you want to, he's quite friendly though."

Evii gawks at Perigourd.

Perigourd brushes his fingers lightly against his Vornavian sheepshead.

Missoni skeptically says, "Friendly? You just said it had human-like teeth."

Perigourd thoughtfully says, "Its large scales also make it much easier to determine its age. Some fishers will harvest some of the scales just beneath the dorsal fin and above the lateral line of the fish to place beneath a lens under which one can see growth rings or "annuli" within the scale itself."

Yunni offers Issalya a silver Kezmonian mackerel.

Speaking discreetly to Evii, you whisper aloud, "It is rather slimy."

Yunni grins at Issalya.

Issalya accepts Yunni's Kezmonian mackerel.

Speaking to Missoni, Perigourd says, "Most of us do."

Perigourd nods knowingly at Missoni.

Perigourd put a spiky rolaren-caged painting decorated along the sides with emerald symbols in his green leather cloak.

Speaking quietly to Yunni, Issalya says, "I appreciate a hands-on lecture."

Missoni gets a blank look on her face.

Speaking interestedly to Perigourd, Evii inquires, "What are the origins of the sheepy part of its name?"

Issalya turns her mackerel over and over in her hand, studying it until a look of understanding crosses her face.

Speaking to Issalya, Yunni asks, "No matter the subject?"

Yunni glances appraisingly at Issalya.

Issalya offers Kippe a silver Kezmonian mackerel.

Speaking to Evii, Perigourd says, "I expect it's because they have similar teeth to the roltons east of the holdings."

Perigourd nods at Evii.

Kippe blinks at Issalya.

Speaking slowly to Yunni, Issalya says, "In most cases."

Evii loudly sighs, "Ooooh."

Kippe accepts Issalya's Kezmonian mackerel.

Perigourd says, "Much like with trees these rings can be used to view the seasons of life through which the fish has lived, with lighter rings reflecting summer growth and darker rings for the winter. This knowledge can be quite useful when attempting to manage fish populations."

Speaking incredulously to Yunni, Evii whispers aloud, "Are you taking notes?"

Perigourd asks, "Would anyone like to inspect this specimen?"

Issalya dusts off her hands.

Missoni leans forward and rests her chin in her hand, a thoughtful expression on her face.

Perigourd raises an eyebrow.

Perigourd indicates a pinkish red Vornavian sheepshead as a possible option.

Kippe offers Traiva a silver Kezmonian mackerel.

Yunni grins sheepishly at Evii.

Issalya raises her hand.

Perigourd offers Issalya a pinkish red Vornavian sheepshead.

Yunni quietly admits, "I am."

Issalya accepts Perigourd's Vornavian sheepshead.

Speaking to himself, Ordim whispers aloud, "Measure fish rings to tell age."

Speaking slowly to Kippe, Traiva says, "Thank you, but.. no."

Issalya carefully examines her Vornavian sheepshead.

Perigourd nods approvingly.

Issalya blinks at a pinkish red Vornavian sheepshead in her hand.

Issalya murmurs, "...quite large."

Issalya turns her sheepshead over and over in her hand, studying it until a look of understanding crosses her face.

Lucraine laughs at Ordim!

Speaking to Ordim, Giogionni says, "Don't confuse that with givin' a fish a ring."

Kippe asks, "You don't like things that squirm in your hands?"

Perigourd removes a glass and eahnor-bound painting bordered by onyx sailboats from in his green leather cloak.

Yunni whispers aloud, "There is the Paupers World Tour Fishing coming up...this is good information."

Perigourd ventures, "And now we'll take a trip a bit further west from the coastal waters of the continent to the volcanic isle of Teras where anglers have been seeing a resurgence in casting through the mysterious River Muagh." Issalya offers Jaired a pinkish red Vornavian sheepshead.

Kippe offers Missoni a silver Kezmonian mackerel.

Yunni turns an inquisitive ear toward Perigourd.

Jaired glances at Issalya.

Missoni nods appreciatively at Kippe.

Speaking playfully to Jaired, Issalya says, "Your turn."

Bakarus nods understandingly.

Jaired ponders.

Perigourd recites fancifully:

   "The Striped Golden Trout!"

Missoni accepts Kippe's Kezmonian mackerel.

Perigourd raises his eahnor-set painting proudly, displaying it for you to see.

The golden trout is quite large, represented in vibrant watercolors. The long body is divided by a bright crimson stripe that runs along both sides, from its gills to its spotted tail. Dark brown and green scales completely saturate the top half of the trout's head and body, and gleaming golden scales equally color its bottom half.

Jaired accepts Issalya's Vornavian sheepshead.

Ordim giggles.

Jaired glances at a pinkish red Vornavian sheepshead in his hand.

Perigourd removes a large striped golden trout from in his faewood tackle box.

Missoni gazes thoughtfully at her Kezmonian mackerel.

Perigourd says, "A remarkably pretty fish, it, like most things found upon Teras, is a fighter. The trouts predatory nature has refined its strength and aggression making them a challenge, even for the practiced and like most trout its colorations have developed to help camouflage it from its enemies."

Speaking wryly to Issalya, Jaired asks, "...now what?"

Perigourd offers you a large striped golden trout.

Jaired casually glances around the room.

You clear your throat.

You accept Perigourd's offer and are now holding a large striped golden trout.

Perigourd nods approvingly to you.

Jaired offers Kippe a pinkish red Vornavian sheepshead.

Evii slowly repeats, "Trout."

Missoni brushes her fingers lightly against her Kezmonian mackerel.

Perigourd considers, "Like any good battle though, knowing ones enemy is critical. Observing how the water shapes the stream can provide one clues to find these foes and lay on. Currents can create riffles, runs, and pools along the river channels in which these tributary ambushes may lie."

Kippe accepts Jaired's Vornavian sheepshead.

Missoni leans to her left slightly.

Issalya gazes in amusement at Kippe.

You gaze thoughtfully at your striped golden trout.

Kippe gives a sidelong glance at Issalya.

Jaired looks at Kippe and hums.

Kippe gazes thoughtfully at his Vornavian sheepshead.

Perigourd says, "Riffles tend to present younger specimens known as troutlets as they use the gravelly bottom above and below these for spawning grounds. Runs, have a typical current where most trout will congregate looking for their next meal, and pools being of smoother water is a good location to dip a hook as they like to use them for their noontide nap."

Missoni offers Arelder a silver Kezmonian mackerel.

(Rohese carefully handles the striped golden trout so as to avoid holding it in both hands before passing it on.)

You offer your striped golden trout to Riend.

Evii looks at you and gags.

Issalya gazes with interest at Perigourd.

A strange, slightly foul odor rises from Kippe's Vornavian sheepshead.

Riend slowly empties her lungs.

Riend has accepted your offer and is now holding a large striped golden trout.

Perigourd glances appraisingly at Missoni.

You wrinkle your nose.

You nod appreciatively at Riend.

Speaking unhappily to you, Evii notes, "It's all ... icky."

Missoni grins sheepishly at Perigourd.

You nod in agreement at Evii.

Perigourd notes, "These fish are quite prized by the dwarves amongst the Ragnak Clan who may perhaps view them a symbol for their own tenacity."

Missoni whispers aloud, "I will just...hold it."

Kippe offers Arbeia a pinkish red Vornavian sheepshead.

Missoni holds a silver Kezmonian mackerel in her hand close to her body.

Riend pores over a large striped golden trout, engrossed in the study of it.

Arbeia says, "No...thank you."

Arbeia chuckles.

Kippe stares at Arbeia.

Arbeia says, "I am..good."

Arbeia says, "Truly."

Yunni bends over her book and begins writing with her quill. After a moment, she lifts her head and scans back over what she has written with a critical eye.

Perigourd says, "It was in fact during their restoration that their current fishing grounds were rediscovered."

Arbeia says, "Quite good."

Perigourd nods approvingly.

Kippe offers Arelder a pinkish red Vornavian sheepshead.

Lucraine raises his hand.

Speaking softly to Evii, you lament, "It's difficult to refuse when one is the host."

You sigh.

Speaking horrifiedly to Missoni, Evii whispers aloud, "Are you going to eat it?"

Perigourd cocks his head at Lucraine.

Arelder closes his eyes for a moment.

Arelder declines Kippe's offer.

(Missoni awkwardly cradles the fish.)

Evii giggles at Missoni.

Yunni glances between Evii and Missoni.

Riend offers Ordim a large striped golden trout.

Kippe slowly empties his lungs.

Ordim accepts Riend's striped golden trout.

Perigourd removes a massive golvern-mounted painting adorned at each corner with ebon galleons from in his green leather cloak.

Ordim stares intently at his striped golden trout, which just sort of stares back blankly with its lidless eyes.

Speaking to Evii, Missoni whispers aloud, "I would prefer it cooked!"

Kippe offers Rivienne a pinkish red Vornavian sheepshead.

Speaking to Evii, Traiva whispers aloud, "Fish is a delight when cooked."

Evii lets out a sigh of relief.

Yunni chortles softly at some secret joke.

Lucraine inquires, "Are there guides one can hire to take you on a fishing tour for these golden trouts?"

Perigourd informs, "Which will lead us to another dwarven fishery nestled amongst the Dragonspine where our final fish awaits in Kalaz Pond..."

Rivienne looks thoughtfully at Kippe.

Lucraine peers quizzically at Perigourd.

Ordim offers Giogionni a large striped golden trout.

Perigourd looks thoughtfully at Lucraine.

Giogionni accepts Ordim's striped golden trout.

Missoni softly adds, "Those some are good raw. I wonder if mackerel is one."

Giogionni carefully examines his striped golden trout.

Rivienne accepts Kippe's Vornavian sheepshead.

Kippe nods appreciatively at Rivienne.

Speaking uncomfortably to Missoni, you whisper aloud, "How do I explain to the Librarian about the lingering fish odour after she's only just recovered from Maylan's emetic...catastrophes."

Speaking to Lucraine, Perigourd says, "There are experienced fishers that know much of the ponds, rivers, lakes and haunts of the fish."

Speaking to his striped golden trout, Giogionni says, "Not bad."

With exaggerated slowness you take a deep breath, then pinch the bridge of your nose.

Speaking gratefully to Rivienne, Kippe murmurs, "Thank you."

Arbeia says, "Oh Rohese...I can assist."

Arbeia removes a suede-tied bundle of white sage from in her mesquite case.

Speaking to Lucraine, Perigourd says, "I expect you would have to seek one out though."

Lucraine peers quizzically at Yunni.

Arbeia shows you a suede-tied bundle of white sage, which she is holding in her left hand.

You beam happily at Arbeia!

Speaking to himself, Perigourd says, "Perhaps I ought to offer some tours."

Speaking emphatically to you, Traiva whispers aloud, "Incense."

Rivienne gazes thoughtfully at her Vornavian sheepshead.

Arbeia says, "When the talk has concluded."

Arbeia says, "I shall sage."

Arbeia nods.

Giogionni offers Arbeia a large striped golden trout.

You nod approvingly.

Speaking hopefully to you, Missoni whispers aloud, "Perhaps the lecturer has a method for dealing with the odor."

Arbeia declines Giogionni's offer.

Arbeia looks over at Giogionni and shakes her head.

Perigourd recites ominously:

   "The Grey Stonefish!"

Perigourd raises his golvern-set painting proudly, displaying it for you to see.

In muted shades that match the background and covered in light grey stone-like appendages that angle around its stout round body, this stonefish looks less like a fish than it does a rock, but its ventral and tail fins are a dead giveaway to its aquatic origin. Its gills are external and protected with the same stone-like covering, and long tendrils protrude from the stonefish's wide mouth.

Evii slowly notes, "When you say haunts of the fish... do you mean... undead fish?"

Missoni gazes with interest at Perigourd.

Evii's eyes widen as she trembles in quiet panic.

Speaking to Evii, Perigourd says, "Some are.. otherwordly, but Rodnir handles most of those."

Perigourd nods grimly at Evii.

Perigourd removes a light grey stonefish from in his faewood tackle box.

Giogionni glances around the room.

Issalya holds her palm out toward Giogionni, looking for a handout.

Giogionni offers Issalya a large striped golden trout.

You gaze in amusement at Issalya.

Issalya accepts Giogionni's striped golden trout.

Perigourd says, "I do reccomend caution with this fish, it's the largest, but it's also a little dangerous. Do not stick yourself on its spines."

Issalya gazes with interest at the striped golden trout in her hand.

Speaking to Giogionni, Evii quavers, "...give ... me ..." she looks like she will regret this, "...the trout."

Arelder suddenly looks like he wishes he were somewhere else.

Perigourd offers you a light grey stonefish.

You accept Perigourd's offer and are now holding a light grey stonefish.

Ordim fidgets.

Traiva glances warily at Perigourd.

Issalya offers Evii a large striped golden trout.

Evii winces.

Perigourd says, "Much like our last fish, this one also chooses to use the advantage of camouflage, but instead of blending in with foliage this fish conceals as the rocky bottom itself. Its coloration and textures have developed to make it seem much as any other outcrop or boulder at the bottom."

Evii accepts Issalya's striped golden trout.

You softly groan, "Oh, it is heavy."

Evii's face turns slightly pale.

Rivienne offers Perigourd a pinkish red Vornavian sheepshead.

Perigourd nods appreciatively at Rivienne.

Lucraine nods at Perigourd.

Perigourd accepts Rivienne's Vornavian sheepshead.

Perigourd places a pinkish red Vornavian sheepshead within his faewood tackle box, and wisps of freezing cold rapidly enshroud it.

(Rohese holds the light grey stonefish as far away from her as possible and pretends to study it.)

You bite your lip.

Perigourd warns, "It also boasts another defense as its dorsal fin sprouts spines that secret a highly venomous toxin that cause extreme pain, and possibly death to the unwary, and as these fish can survive outside of the water for an extended time, It is not uncommon for unlucky swimmers or the unobservant beachcomber to be found at the local healer where heated rocks help create a warm compress to help treat the sting."

Yunni gazes in amusement at you.

Missoni relievedly asks, "I can give this back now?"

(Evii hefts her striped golden trout once before it begins to slip out of her hands slowly.)

Missoni offers Perigourd a silver Kezmonian mackerel.

A strange, slightly foul odor rises from Evii's striped golden trout.

Kippe nods approvingly to you.

Perigourd accepts Missoni's Kezmonian mackerel.

Perigourd places a silver Kezmonian mackerel within his faewood tackle box, and wisps of freezing cold rapidly enshroud it.

Perigourd nods at Missoni.

Issalya thoughtfully taps a finger against her lips.

Missoni removes a red and white gingham napkin folded into a moonflower from in her alligator skin case.

Missoni carefully unfolds her gingham napkin.

Evii slowly hisses, "It is ... very ... pungent."

Perigourd says, "The fish itself is edible by removing the venomous dorsal fins with a dense texture that some consider a delicacy, though some of the Zul Logoth dwarves I spoke to tell of those taking this danger as a personal challenge with their bravest.. or drunkest.. eating the stonefish with the fins in tact as a testament of their strength."

Issalya looks thoughtful for a moment, then shrugs.

(Missoni wipes her hands vigorously on her gingham napkin.)

Evii wrinkles her nose.

Perigourd says, "I myself have never tried this though."

You offer your light grey stonefish to Kippe.

Perigourd nods thoughtfully.

Traiva raises an eyebrow in Perigourd's direction.

Jaired looks thoughtfully at Perigourd.

Riend wrinkles her nose.

Kippe starts chuckling at you!

Evii offers Lucraine a large striped golden trout.

Yunni looks thoughtfully at Perigourd.

Kippe has accepted your offer and is now holding a light grey stonefish.

Speaking casually to Lucraine, Evii informs, "Trout for you sir."

Lucraine declines Evii's offer.

Kippe smirks at you!

Evii whines.

Missoni skillfully folds her gingham napkin into the shape of an orrery.

Speaking softly to Kippe, you say, "Serves you right for being so amused at my predicament."

Missoni put a red and white gingham napkin folded into an orrery in her alligator skin case.

Lucraine says, "It likes you."

Lucraine smiles at Evii.

Issalya asks, "Is the toxin used for anything once the fins are removed?"

Issalya gazes with interest at Perigourd.

Kippe whispers, "You couldn't wait to get this off your hands, could you?"

Yunni glances warily around the room.

You quietly whisper to Kippe, "Was it that obvious?"

Evii scrunches up her face and pouts.

Speaking to Issalya, Perigourd says, "I imagine some ne'er-do-wells have used it for such, but I'm not sure where one would procure or distill it."

Kippe chuckles to himself.

Kippe nods understandingly to you.

Issalya nods understandingly.

You fidget.

Kippe offers Riend a light grey stonefish.

Riend flashes a quick grin at Traiva.

Speaking to Riend, Kippe says, "Careful."

Riend cocks her head at Kippe.

Riend nods faintly.

Riend accepts Kippe's light grey stonefish.

Kippe lets out a long, contemplative breath.

Kippe nods appreciatively at Riend.

Perigourd concludes, "These are only a few of the magnificent specimens of what I consider to be one of the most diverse animal populations upon Elanthia."

Speaking calmly to herself, Evii informs, "You Miss, need a bath now."

Speaking amusedly to Riend, you say, "You look as comfortable with that as I felt."

Speaking to you, Kippe says, "She's an expert."

Perigourd says, "I greatly appreciate your time today and as a thank you I've brought several replica fish in the cornucopia that may work well in certain hats or items to which you are free to take with you, as well as some lifelike portraiture of fish I've painted for the occasion. Thank you all."

Perigourd points at a woven cornucopia of faewood twigs.

Speaking to Perigourd, Lucraine notes, "These seem like quite the challenge to catch."

[APPLAUSE]

Speaking quietly to you, Riend whispers aloud, "It looks like a rock, yet no rock has ever smelled quite so... it is just so odd."

Arbeia asks, "Shall i light the sage now?"

Speaking softly to Arbeia, you say, "Yes please and I shall open some windows."

Speaking to Perigourd, Issalya says, "An interesting subject. Thank you for making it hands-on."

Arbeia lights her bundle of white sage and the end begins to smolder.

Arbeia waves her bundle of white sage around Perigourd in an undulating spiral, momentarily enshrouding them in a veil of opaque smoke.

Jaired agrees with Issalya.

Speaking to Issalya, Perigourd says, "The best way to learn."

Arbeia gently shakes her bundle of white sage before her, painting the air with a pale vaporous smoke.

Issalya nods in agreement.

You walk behind a small podium.

Bakarus asks, "May I ask a question?"

Evii softly cries, "Won't someone rid me of this meddlesome trout?"

Speaking to Perigourd, Jaired asks, "Have you had any success in researching the gigasmouth bass in the Issenflow?"

Perigourd says, "Indeed, I'm happy to answer what I can."

Perigourd nods at Bakarus.

Speaking to Perigourd, Bakarus asks, "As you and I have often discussed and shared our love for Lady Imaera, do you ever find sport fishing or competition fishing crossing a line with regard to the blessed Lady's teachings?"

Speaking to Evii, Lucraine whispers aloud, "Hurry and give it to Rohese while at the podium."

Ordim stares intently at his light grey stonefish, which just sort of stares back blankly with its lidless eyes.

Speaking to Jaired, Perigourd says, "No, though I've spoken to Trahald about it a few times. He seems particularly possessive of his fishing grounds at the moment."

Ordim indicates his light grey stonefish with a smile.

You look at Lucraine blankly, at a loss to express yourself.

Ordim exclaims, "Ow!"

Ordim furrows his brow.

Jaired nods slowly at Perigourd.

Speaking to Jaired, Kippe says, "Peri is on the case, though."

Issalya leans toward a woven cornucopia of faewood twigs.

Speaking to Giogionni, Ordim warns, "It bites."

Giogionni accepts Ordim's light grey stonefish.

Issalya reaches her hand into the wide opening of braided faewood of a woven cornucopia of faewood twigs and roots around! Issalya pulls out a long scarlet ribbonfish!

Speaking quietly to Yunni, Evii attempts, "You could see it closer up if you were holding it."

Jaired nods once at Kippe.

Speaking to Bakarus, Perigourd says, "I think if the fish is used or thrown back than it is acceptable."

Giogionni grins at Ordim.

Evii indicates a large striped golden trout as a possible option.

You glance with concern at Ordim.

Giogionni carefully examines his light grey stonefish.

Issalya gives a short little hum of surprise.

Speaking to Kippe, Jaired says, "If anyone can get to the bottom of it, they can."

Speaking to Bakarus, Perigourd says, "I will often toss back fish others leave on the shoreline though."

Issalya turns her ribbonfish over and over in her hand, studying it until a look of understanding crosses her face.

Perigourd says, "So not all have the same perspective."

Perigourd says, "Even these here will likely go back into the stock pond."

Perigourd taps a hefty faewood tackle box with golvern fittings that he is wearing.

Speaking to Perigourd, Bakarus says, "I always defer to you on matters of our Lady. Thank you friend. And wonderful lecture, of course."

Issalya accepts Giogionni's light grey stonefish.

Speaking to Missoni, Kippe says, "Admit it, you were hoping for a fishcake."

You graciously inquire, "Do we have any more questions from the audience?"

Ordim raises his hand.

You nod at Ordim.

Speaking to Kippe, Missoni admits, "It is true. All this talk of fish has me hungry."

Riend gazes in amusement at Missoni.

Kippe smirks at Missoni.

Speaking to Missoni, Traiva asks, "How do you not have a fishcake with you?"

Arbeia asks, "Missoni did not make fishcakes for this occasion?"

Evii glances between a large striped golden trout and yourself.

Speaking to Perigourd, Ordim says, "Did I miss the fish from the Northeast? it seemed like it was all fish from everywhere OTHER than the north east."

Evii slowly empties her lungs.

Ordim fidgets.

Raising your hands before you, you quickly backpedal away from Evii.

Speaking to Traiva, Missoni says, "Oh, I do. But I was not sure if it would be polite..."

Speaking softly to Evii, you say, "Once was enough."

You wrinkle your nose.

Speaking laughingly to you, Evii agrees, "Right...."

Speaking to Traiva, Kippe says, "Perigourd handles the fishcakes."

Arbeia says, "Perigourd I truly believe one day you shall in fact, catch the river kraken."

Speaking to Ordim, Perigourd says, "One had to leave room to be invited back to speak again."

Ordim nods understandingly at Perigourd.

You giggle softly at Perigourd.

Speaking to Perigourd, Ordim confirms, "Leave them wanting more."

Speaking to Ordim, Perigourd says, "Though much of the eastern ponds bear fish similar to the typical ponds here in the west."

Ordim nods knowingly.

Speaking to Kippe, Traiva says, "Missoni seems to handle fishcakes just fine on her own."

Yunni asks, "Did anyone else want to take a look?"

Perigourd says, "I brought specimens that aren't as often found in the hopes of showing the variety of life in the water."

Speaking playfully to Perigourd, you warn, "I shall be in touch again soon then."

Missoni helps herself to a rice wine-infused fishcake seared golden brown.

Evii softly offers, "One gently used golden trout for sale. Caught by a famous fish scholar."

Perigourd grins at you.

Arbeia begins chuckling at Evii!

Perigourd nods to you.

Bakarus grins wryly.

Speaking to Traiva, Kippe says, "If that means "she eats them", then yes, you're correct."

Yunni's face lights up with joy for Riend.

You softly ask, "Any more questions?"

You glance around the room.

Perigourd chuckles.

A very poignant, foul stench wafts from Evii's striped golden trout.

You softly ask, "Or does everyone have their hands full of fish?"

You giggle softly.

Ordim giggles.

Evii says, "Oh gawd, it's so bad..."

Evii gags.

Evii's face turns slightly pale.

Missoni raises her hand.

You nod at Missoni.

Speaking to Evii, Lucraine jokes, "I feel like it looks handled too much for my liking. Plus I think it likes you."

Speaking to Perigourd, Missoni says, "You mentioned ah... these rings on the scales being used to manage populations."

Speaking to Issalya, Perigourd says, "That one lives in Kalaz Pond."

Perigourd nods at Issalya.

Yunni offers Perigourd a light grey stonefish.

(Rohese quickly approaches the elliptical windows and opens them as wide as possible.)

Perigourd accepts Yunni's light grey stonefish.

Missoni asks, "Why might one do that?"

Perigourd places a light grey stonefish within his faewood tackle box, and wisps of freezing cold rapidly enshroud it.

(Evii resignedly flops the striped golden trout onto her lap, this is her life now.)

Evii sighs.

Speaking to Missoni, Perigourd says, "Some fish eat other fish."

Speaking to Missoni, Perigourd says, "If they overeat some of the smaller feed fish, than they themselves may run out of sustenance and die off."

Yunni appears to be struggling to keep a straight face as she glances at Evii.

Speaking to Missoni, Perigourd says, "It's important to see how long a lifespan they have, and to take the older ones so the cycle can renew."

Evii stares intently at her striped golden trout, which just sort of stares back blankly with its lidless eyes.

Riend raises her hand. Speaking to Evii, Yunni says, "You can pass it over."

Speaking to Perigourd, Missoni says, "Interesting. So you might throw back a fish that is younger. I see."

Speaking to Missoni, Perigourd says, "I often throw back the smaller fish to have more time to grow."

Speaking hopefully to Yunni, Evii begins, "You, you will save me from this ... stinky trout?"

Perigourd turns to face Riend.

Missoni nods slowly.

You glance between Evii and Yunni.

Speaking thoughtfully to Perigourd, Riend asks, "You mentioned earlier that the Sheepshead has teeth shaped to allow them to eat shells and crustaceans, yes?"

Yunni nods at Evii.

Yunni grins.

Speaking to Riend, Perigourd says, "Indeed."

Speaking uncertainly to Yunni, Evii says, "I don't know... we've spent so much time together ... it's hard to let go...."

Speaking to Kippe, Missoni whispers aloud, "All this time I thought he threw them back to spite me."

Issalya looks at Evii blankly, at a loss to express herself.

Riend asks, "Do the minerals in the shells they eat contribute to that unique pinkish red color?"

Perigourd ponders.

Speaking to Missoni, Kippe says, "He's just ensuring your future welfare."

Speaking to Evii, Yunni asks, "Did you name it?"

(Evii kisses her striped golden trout lovingly once, on the lips.)

Evii offers Yunni a large striped golden trout.

Yunni gazes in amusement at Evii.

Speaking brightly to Kippe, Missoni says, "How sweet."

You glance incredulously at Evii.

Speaking to Riend, Perigourd says, "It may be dietary, their breed may perhaps dine more on shrimp and clams than the black-banded do."

Yunni accepts Evii's striped golden trout.

Missoni takes a bite of her wine-infused fishcake.

Kippe agrees with Missoni.

Evii perspicaciously observes, "Fish lips."

Yunni glances at Perigourd and raises her hand.

Perigourd turns to face Yunni.

Yunni says, "I also have a question..."

Speaking quickly to Yunni, Evii informs, "He likes sunshine in the morning and stories before bedtimes."

Speaking softly to Perigourd, you commend, "A veritable barrage of questions."

Speaking to Yunni, Perigourd says, "Of course."

Speaking to Perigourd, Riend observes, "Like flamingos, perhaps?"

Speaking to you, Perigourd says, "Fish are quite interesting."

Issalya nods in agreement at Riend.

Speaking to you, Perigourd says, "Especially the breeding differences."

You blush a nice shade of rosy pink.

Speaking to Riend, Giogionni asks, "Flamingos?"

With a subtle tilt of his head, Giogionni's thin finger taps lightly on his bottom lip as he becomes lost in thought.

Speaking to Riend, Perigourd says, "Or roseates spoonbills, yes."

You squirm uncomfortably in place.

Perigourd nods at Riend.

Speaking to Perigourd, Arelder asks, "Any advice for those fishing for the first time?"

Riend nods in agreement at Perigourd.

You flusteredly say, "Well, I'm sure we don't need to cover those differences."

Speaking interestedly to Perigourd, Yunni asks, "Have you come across any legendary fish in your travels?"

Perigourd chuckles.

Kippe grins at you.

Speaking to Yunni, Perigourd says, "Sadly I've only seen them, but not landed one yet. I've landed well over a thousand fish with some quite rare breeds but not one of the legendary types we hear of." Perigourd says, "I know of a few who have caught them however."

Perigourd says, "They always reccomend Kraken's Fall for them."

Perigourd nods at Yunni.

Evii smiles politely, minding her own business a little too obviously as she attempts to eavesdrop.

Speaking to Perigourd, Giogionni asks, "That stonefish wasn't legendary?"

Speaking to Arelder, Perigourd says, "Find the strongest fishing line you can and be patient with the big fish."

Speaking to Giogionni, Perigourd says, "No, but I've caught two types of them."

Speaking to Giogionni, Perigourd says, "The light and the stone grey."

Speaking to Giogionni, Perigourd says, "Those are also in Kalaz Pond."

Perigourd says, "They have some pebblefish and gravelfish there too."

Giogionni nods.

Arbeia says, "Perigourd..."

Perigourd says, "I think the dwarves have quite a way with naming them."

Perigourd chuckles.

Perigourd turns to face Arbeia.

Arbeia asks, "What could be caught off the waters of Brisker's Cove?"

(Yunni scribbles down more notes in her book.)

Speaking to Perigourd, Giogionni says, "Zul Logoth has some interestin' fish."

Speaking to Arbeia, Perigourd says, "I haven't tested the waters there yet, but I would suspect similar fish to the Vornavis waters, they're not too far from eachother though you might see more southern breeds. Perhaps Lionfish."

Speaking wistfully to Perigourd, Kippe says, "Tell us of the one that got away."

Perigourd laughs at Kippe!

Speaking to Kippe, Perigourd says, "The Bobo's Monster."

Perigourd says, "Every time."

Speaking softly to Kippe, you exclaim, "We don't have that long!"

Jaired starts chuckling at you!

Perigourd says, "There's a fish at Bobo's Toy Park that we've yet to land."

Kippe winks at you and flashes a sly grin.

Perigourd nods.

Perigourd says, "It's broken over twenty of my lines and many more besides I'm sure."

Speaking to Kippe, Riend says, "Personally, I am waiting for the novel and the play."

Riend glances expectantly at Perigourd.

Missoni nods grimly.

Yunni grins at Perigourd.

Kippe begins chuckling at Riend!

Speaking playfully to Kippe, you lament, "Now we're here for hours, you know how a fisherman's tale goes."

Speaking to Arbeia, Perigourd says, "I'm not sure. I suspect it's a large goliath grouper."

Speaking to Riend, Traiva says, "Once he actually lands it."

You inwardly sigh.

Perigourd says, "I found a juvenile there one time."

Yunni quietly says, "Challenge accepted."

Perigourd says, "Quite challenging to land."

Speaking to Traiva, Riend asks, "Does the chase not make for a better story, though?"

Arelder begins chuckling at Arbeia!

Speaking to Yunni, Perigourd says, "It usually snaps the line pretty fast so I'd try to take your time with it."

Evii casually offers, "I'll sit on the shore and watch you fish, but I'm NOT wading out there in the water."

Speaking to Riend, Traiva says, "But only to hold up the trophy at the end."

Speaking to you, Kippe says, "It grows longer with every telling, too."

You giggle softly at Kippe.

Speaking to Kippe, Issalya asks, "The fish, or the story?"

Speaking to Perigourd, Yunni says, "Good to know."

Yunni grins.

Yunni cracks her knuckles!

Speaking to Issalya, Traiva says, "Both."

Issalya nods understandingly at Traiva.

Speaking lightly to Kippe, you accuse, "When we're all here past supper time, we'll blame you."

Speaking to Issalya, Kippe confirms, "Both."

Giogionni chuckles.

Kippe nods at Traiva.

Perigourd says, "If anyone wants some tiny replica fish, there are some in the cornucopia as well. useful to adorn things when heading out on the water."

Perigourd taps a woven cornucopia of faewood twigs.

Perigourd removes a tattered olive green fishing hat from in his green leather cloak.

Perigourd removes a silvery grey mullet from in a woven cornucopia of faewood twigs.

Perigourd attaches his mullet to his hat, resulting in a tattered olive green fishing hat graced by a silvery grey mullet.

Perigourd taps a tattered olive green fishing hat graced by a silvery grey mullet, which is in his right hand.

Speaking bashfully to Perigourd, you ask, "Does fishing for glimaerfish in the rock pools count as fishing?"

Speaking to you, Perigourd says, "I've seen some of them in Veythorne manor. I would suspect that anytime you take a fish from the water it ought to count."

Perigourd nods to you.

You beam at Perigourd, delighted!

Speaking proudly to Yunni, you proclaim, "I'm a fisher...elf."

You clap your hands together in delight!

Missoni gazes proudly at you.

Yunni nods approvingly to you.

Kippe smirks at you!

You shush Kippe!

You invitingly inquire, "Any more questions for our delightful speaker?"

Traiva raises her hand.

Traiva winks at you and flashes a sly grin.

You nod at Traiva.

You accept Perigourd's offer and are now holding a glass and eahnor-bound painting bordered by onyx sailboats. Painted with gradiating hues from golden to orange and brown, this foot-long fish is quite heavy-bodied with a large mouth and small teeth on the tongue. Radiating from its eyes are four reddish-brown streaks that fade into the area just behind its gill flaps, which are a deep red color. Spines protrude from both the anal and dorsal fins, and a bright orange spot at the base of the dorsal fin designates this one as male. There appears to be something written on it. In the Common language, it reads: "Golden Warmouth, 5125" -- by Perigourd Sabretache

Speaking softly to Perigourd, you exclaim, "What a lovely painting!"

Speaking innocently to Perigourd, Traiva asks, "Will we see you at all of Yunni's Fishing World Tour stops each Volnes evening of Lumnea?"

Yunni grins sheepishly.

Speaking warmly to Perigourd, Evii admits, "For it being about," she gulps, "fish. It was pretty fun."

Speaking to Perigourd, Evii says, "Well done."

Traiva says, "We are starting at 9:30 by the elves, in Ta'Vaalor first."

You amusedly comment, "Such a fascinating and engaging lecture today, I have learned so much about fish and I didn't realise I was a fisher-elf!"

Evii smiles at Yunni.

Speaking to Traiva, Perigourd says, "I would hope to attend then, yes."

Perigourd nods at Traiva.

Traiva says, "There are five stops planned, for each Volnes in Lumnea."

Speaking to Traiva, Kippe says, "By attend, he means win."

You softly say, "I am sure you will all join me in showing your appreciation for the...insightful presentation today."
