Low eaves, stained black with smoke, do little to keep out the icy chill of the outdoors, though they have been sealed in many places with acrid pine pitch. The floor is an artless mosaic of uneven planks, most badly warped, and the nails securing them are more rust than iron. Behind a carved counter of time-silvered wood is a collection of racks holding dusty bottles in a variety of colors.

A mottled grey warg pelt stretches across the plank floor before an uneven brick fireplace on the eastern wall. Several frayed chairs form a loose semicircle around the hearth like decrepit kings holding court. Decades of pipe smoke has seeped into the surroundings, leaving the air stale with its burnt herbal tang, but a fresher floral scent rises from a small hoarbeam herb box to sweeten the air. You also see a raw-boned halfling tavernkeeper, a wicker wastebin and a swirled steel bowl full of sticks.
