Galesmight, searching the underground ruins of the Coastal Cliffs, finds himself too close to the hidden shrine to Luukos. Morvule, who at first does not make himself visible, takes issue with this and demands he leave. Galesmight refuses and, after discovering a secret inner chamber, is magically bound and struck. Eventually fleeing, he retreats to his friend's home, where he shares what happened. But Morvule is not so easily shaken from a trail and appears, demanding Galesmight's silence about the secret shrine he managed to uncover. Galesmight refuses and suffers the consequences.

This log is from Galesmight's perspective. It has been edited.

[Underground Ruin, Entrance Hall]
This is the southern most end of the entrance hall. The walls are bare except for a few burnt out torches. Flattened against the south wall is the mummified corpse of a guard. You also see a reinforced shield, a leather breastplate and a wooden door.
Obvious exits: north.

You hear a low chuckle from somewhere and a sibilant voice speaks, "How do you know I do not already walk among you without ssssword or ssssshield? You are blind."

You grin.

>north
[Underground Ruin, Entrance Hall]
The huge entrance hall continues both north and south. The murals cover only part way. You also see a lesser red orc and a reinforced shield.
Obvious exits: north, south, southeast, southwest.

You say, "Aye, the Red Orc knows best."
You say, "Jest like ye"
You ask, "Is it Luukos that ye serve?"
You ask, "Has he cursed ye or blessed ye?"

>southeast
[Underground Ruin, Dining Hall]
This huge room seems to have been meant for grand entertainment. There is a large fireplace, now caved in, on the south wall. Sconces, to hold torches, line the walls but were obviously never used. Oddly, there is no evidence of furnishings here. You also see a lesser red orc, a clear tourmaline, a leather breastplate, a scimitar, a reinforced shield and a red orc scalp.
Obvious exits: east, northwest.

You belt out, "I nae pray to a god. Do you to yours?"

>east
[Underground Ruin, Fire Room]
Fitted stones cover every square foot of this room. The entire east wall is nothing but a huge fireplace for cooking. It seems very odd to you that there are no burn marks in the fireplace.
Obvious exits: south, west, northeast.

>south
[Underground Ruin, Worker's Dorm]
This large room contains many, many beds and footlockers. Some tools are stacked neatly in wall mounted racks, while more litter the floor.
Obvious exits: north, south, southwest.

You belt out, "Has he cursed or blessed ye?"

You focus your mind on Lavastene and think:
"He is here."
Roundtime 5 seconds.

You hear the subdued thoughts of Lavastene touch your mind:
"who?"

>southwest
[Underground Ruin, Excavation]
You look upon a hideous sight. Scores of twisted, broken skeletons swept in here by a great wall of water. You also see a leather breastplate, a scimitar, a reinforced shield, a leather helm, a scimitar, a reinforced shield, a leather helm, a leather helm, a leather breastplate and a leather helm.
Obvious exits: northeast.

You belt out, "What shall I call ye ?"

You focus your mind on Lavastene and think:
"He has just spoken to me."
Roundtime 5 seconds.

You hear the subdued thoughts of Lavastene touch your mind:
"Morvule?"

You focus your mind on Lavastene and think:
"Somethin' that hisses. He nae said a name."
Roundtime 5 seconds.

You belt out, "I am known as Galesmight. Gale or Gales for short."

>northeast

"He is here, I can smell him."

Azorack just arrived.

You say, "Azorack."
You say, "A serpent walks among us."
You say, "Be careful."

Azorack says, "Hm."
Azorack just touched a white bone symbol of Onar.
Azorack says in guild speak, "I care little fer snakes."

You say in guild speak, "Aye me also."
You say in guild speak, "He hath spoke to me."
You say in guild speak, "But scurried away."

Azorack rubs his chin thoughtfully.
Azorack nods.
Azorack says in guild speak, "Hm."
Azorack says in guild speak, "Many snakes... recentleh."

You ask in guild speak, "Aye?"
You peer quizzically at Azorack.

Azorack begins to twitch.
Azorack says in guild speak, "Aye."

You ask in guild speak, "In here my friend?"

Azorack glances at a sconce.

You rub your chin thoughtfully.

Azorack says in guild speak, "They are among us more now."

You ask in guild speak, "Aye?"

Azorack nods.

You say in guild speak, "I hear he has been marking people."

Azorack says in guild speak, "They grow... many in numbers."
Azorack nods to you.
Azorack says in guild speak, "Those who earn the mark."

You nod to Azorack.
You ask in guild speak, "The Marks of a servant?"

Azorack asks in guild speak, "What else would one be to the arkati?"

You say in guild speak, "Evil has no allegiance to anyone.
You say in guild speak, "The only allegiance is power."

Azorack says in guild speak, "Aye. Power, or money, in my case."
Azorack begins to twitch.

You say in guild speak, "If this servant grows powerful enough, he would certainly attempt to take the place of Luukos."
You ask in guild speak, "He wants to use us as that stepping stone mayhap?"

Azorack stares at you.
Azorack asks in guild speak, "What was the servants name, do yeh no?"

You say in guild speak, "Atania.. Heard it."
You say, "Morvule."
You say, "If tis the same .. creature."

Azorack narrows his eyes.
Azorack says in guild speak, "Yeh no Atania..."
Azorack begins to twitch.

You say, "We just met. Similiar to you an' me."
You say, "Tis how I found my way 'ere."

You hear a low chuckle from somewhere, and a sibilant voice speaks, "You are more naive than mossssst who tread these ruinssss looking for prey. You know nothing about the great and powerful Masssster, nor me."

Azorack just touched a white bone symbol of Onar.
Azorack says, "I serve somethin more powahful, snake."
Azorack begins to twitch.

You grin.
You say, "I know enough about your master."
You say, "Enough to know that I would never swear allegiance with him."
You say, "Nor do I call anyone my master."
You ask, "Does it bother you .. Morvule .. that you have a master? A dog on a leash?"

Azorack begins to twitch.
Azorack glances at you.

A sibilant voice speaks, "You think me impresssssed by power? I am not here to compare or argue about ssssuch trivial and unproveable thingssss, little fly. My purpose here is for a far greater thing to be."

You grin evilly.
You say, "A little fly that eats away at ye..."
You say, "A little fly that will nae go away."

A sibilant voice speaks, "Try another angle, half-elf. That one line has been ssssspoken to me by your kind for ages."

Azorack says, "Galesmight, do no say this about an akrati servant."
Azorack says, "I too, serve."

You say, "Ye are nae a slave Azorack."
You say, "Bound by the torments of evil."

Azorack folds his arms over his chest.
Azorack laughs softly, trying to hide his amusement.

You ask, "Morvule is it your soul ye wish to have back?"
You say, "The one Luukos stole from ye. When no one came to help ye."
You say, "Mayhap there is another path Morvule."

Azorack says, "Yeh do not know what power 'ee has..."
Azorack clenches his fist.
Azorack stares at you.

You hear a low, highly amused laugh that echoes around in the ruins.

Azorack says, "You try t'provoke..."

You say, "Ye were once alive .. mayhap ye wish to find your final resting place."
You look at Azorack and shake your head.

A sibilant voice says, "I was wrong. You're dissssgusssstingly more naive than I thought you were."

You say, "One were ye may rest peacefully."
You say, "if ye were wrong, ask why I came here."

Azorack says, "Yeh be a fool, Half-elf... like 'ee say."

Lord Rumpkin just arrived.
As Rumpkin pulls on the sconce the room fills with the sounds of stone grinding on stone. The floor vibrates with a deep rumbling as a large stone in one wall opens to reveal a stone chute.
Lord Rumpkin went down a stone chute.

Azorack glances at a stone chute.

You peer quizzically at Azorack.

Azorack says, "Rumpkin... must speak wit'im..."

You ask, "To discover truths hidden long ago?"

You feel a deep vibration as a large stone grinds down to close off the stone chute.

>whisper azorack What be down there?
You whisper quietly to Azorack.

Azorack looks over at you and shakes his head.
Azorack says, "No. Yeh do no wish't'go."

You ask, "Why ye say that?"

Azorack says, "Yeh no stand't'is might er magic."

You say, "It nae always take the weapon or mind to fight Azorack."
You say, "We are always tested... Nae of the mind or body .. but of the heart and soul."

Azorack laughs softly, trying to hide his amusement.
Azorack says, "Naive... like snake say..."
Azorack tilts his head back.

You shake your head.
You say, "Aye."
You say, "We shall find out."

This appears to be a small shrine of some sort.
Also in the room: Lord Rumpkin
Obvious exits: west.

You see Lord Rumpkin Beeboz the Half-Elf.
He appears to be in his 80's, has very long dark brown hair, grey eyes, and dark skin.
He has a large emerald green serpent which appears to be poised and ready to strike his left eye while the long serpentine body coils deftly around his neck.
He is in good shape.
He is holding a dark serpent-twined staff in his right hand and a dark enruned warshield in his left hand.
He is wearing some black and jade leather hunts, an ebon-black serpentine cloak emblazoned with the runes of Luukos, a dark-scaled black leather knapsack, an antique silver armband, a black-gold serpentine armband, a bronze Luukos symbol, an Arkati seal, and an ora-chained black holy shard.

Roundtime: 3 sec.
You attempt to blend with the surroundings and feel confident that no one has noticed your doing so.

Rumpkin mutters under his breath.
Rumpkin just went west.

You do not believe anyone noticed you slip out of hiding.

>search
You make a careful search of the area and discover a dark tunnel hidden behind the altar!

>go tunnel
[Dark Tunnel]
The cavern's ceiling is lost in the cloying darkness above, and quiet dripping sounds rebound and echo about the massive chamber. Two flickering torches are set upon the craggy grey walls, casting an uneasy light into the shadows that shroud the chamber. The air is mildly chilly deep within the embrace of the earth, and the faint scent of decaying flesh hangs in the air like a fog. You also see a dark hole.

[Dark Cavern]
The tunnel opens up into a wide, circular chamber. The craggy rock walls curve overhead into the darkness, their surfaces blackened through the years by the large torches set within them. A large slab of granite sits in middle of the room, ringed with dark stains, ageless dust and charred stubs of wax. Deep channels are carved into the stone floor, their crude yet sinuous routes weaving a radiating serpentine pattern around the slab.
Obvious exits: south.

You hear a sibilant voice raised in anger, "You have sssseen what you are never meant to ssssee. You will die now unless you leave, little fly."

You hear a low, sibilant voice speak, "Sssshould we ssssee how easily broken you are?"

You hear someone gasp.

You say, "It will take more than death to defeat me."

A dark tendril of emerald green energy slithers around Galesmight's legs.

You fall screaming to the ground grasping your mangled right leg!

Kadesha fades into visibility.
Kadesha runs her hand softly over the surface of her Lorminstra symbol. A pale glow surrounds the symbol as its surface shimmers for a moment with the image of a golden key on a field of black.

You ask, "Unbind me or are ye afraid?"

You hear a low, sibilant voice speak, "Leave while you're sssstill able."

[He travels to Lavastene's home, where he and Atania have been talking. Atania has met Morvule once before, when he approached her during a conversation with Achillea.]

You walk through the door of the cottage.
[Lavastene's Home]
A fancifully decorated elven rug adorns the parquet golden oak floor of this small room. A tiny obsidian fireplace, a gold-trimmed vineyard tapestry hanging above it, rests between a claw-footed walnut table and a plain white pine bed pushed up against the polished pale oak walls. The room holds a faint scent of musty parchment. You also see a claw-footed maoral armchair, a claw-footed maoral armchair and a door.
Also here: Lavastene, Lady Atania.
Obvious exits: none

Atania gives a sigh of relief.

You say, "I have felt his power."

Atania asks, "Who? What happened?"
Atania stands in front of you.
Atania touches you.

You say, "I may of set my eyes upon where no one else has been.."

The coals in the obsidian fireplace shift and resettle, causing shadows to dance about the room while the flames reestablish themselves.

You say, "Please look for the marks."
You say, "I maybe more danger to you than good."

Lavastene whispers, "I see nothing that would mark you as his."

Atania says, "Damn you. Speak plainly and nay in Coils."
Atania glances at Lavastene.
Atania says, "And shut that door."

Lavastene coughs.
Lavastene closes the door.
Lavastene rattles the handle of the door.
Lavastene says, "Sorry."

You say, "Lord Rumpkin has fallen prey to him."
You say, "He has been marked by Morvule if that be his name."

(Atania runs her hands over Galesmight neck, lifting his hair to peer underneath.)

The room darkens somewhat as the flames from the obsidian fireplace dim.

Atania moves to stand behind you.
Atania says, "Speak from the beginning."

(Lavastene stares at Galesmight in anticipation.)

(Atania continues parting Galesmight's hair, searching earnestly for a mark.)
Atania shakes her head.

You say, "This appears to be the mark.."
You say, "Rumpkin had a large emerald green serpent which appears to be poised and ready to strike his left eye while the long serpentine body coils deftly around his neck."

The coals in the obsidian fireplace shift and resettle, causing shadows to dance about the room while the flames reestablish themselves.

Atania asks, "Did you see any other marks?"
Atania asks, "One like fangs?"

You say, "nae"
You say, "He appears to be a follower of Luukos judging by his dress attire."
You nod.

The flames in the obsidian fireplace leap higher as more fuel catches fire, causing the room to brighten noticeably.

You rub your chin thoughtfully.
You say, "Let me start from the beggining."

Lavastene nods.

Atania says, "He may nay be marked then. I have seen two bearing red fang-like marks. Them being Achillea and Nevrek."

You say, "Aye well he is most certainly a follower of Luukos."
You say, "He led me to the shrine..."

Atania says, "Aye .. he has spoken to me before."

The warmth of the obsidian fireplace soothes you as its light dances about the room.

You say, "But."
You say, "I think I found something he didn't know about."
You say, "Rumpkin that is..."

Atania moves to stand in front of Lavastene.
Atania leans on Lavastene.
Atania asks, "What do you mean?"

You say, "Well I searched the room Rumpkin was stuck in."
You say, "Behind the alter is more rooms."

The last flame slowly flickers away in the a tiny obsidian fireplace, leaving behind nothing but hot coals and ashes.

You say, "Morvule if that be his name got very angry."
You say, "He had the power to bind me ..."
You say, "then he wanted to test me to see if I would break."

Atania asks, "How did he test you?"
Atania gazes heavenward.

You exclaim, "But alas!"
You say, "This is the end of the story"
You say, "Let me start over."

Atania says, "Oof."
Atania sits down on a claw-footed maoral armchair.

You say, "I walked in and searched to the left and right .. but found no response."

Lavastene pulls out a claw-footed maoral armchair.
Lavastene says, "Please sit."

You say, "T'was only in one room that he spoke to me."
You say, "I cannae Lavas, I am too impatient right nae."

Atania asks, "What did he say, when he spoke?"

You say, "Well that was when your friend showed up.."
You say, "Azorack."

Atania stares off into space.

Lavastene nods.

You say, "He said that I was just a mere fly."
You say, "This morvule.."
You say, "That I have said to him what many half-elves have said before."
You say, "The same argument, that his is a dog wioth a leash wrapped around him."
You say, "to luukos that be"
You say, "So i said this to him.."
You say, "Then what you truly desire is for your soul to be free."
You say, "Azorack wanted me to hush."
You say, "But Morvule did nae do anything."
You shake your head.

Atania asks, "Wait, who be the you?"
Atania asks, "Morvule wishes for his soul to be free?"

You say, "I think so, I said that to him."

Atania nods to you.
Atania gives a sigh of relief.

You say, "If ye research the history..."
You say, "Luukos captures souls.. takes control of them.."

Atania asks, "You did nay mention a sylph, did you?"
Atania bites her lip.

You say, "Nae."
You shake your head.
You say, "I decided to follow Rumpkin."

Lavastene nods to you.

The flames in the fireplace flicker brightly with an emerald hue.

Waves of heat continue to wash over the room from the obsidian fireplace.

Atania stares off into space.
Atania gets off the armchair on which she was sitting.
Atania moves to stand behind Lavastene.
Atania says, "Lavastene, snuff the fire out."
Atania says, "Now."
Atania trembles.

You say, "I believe in was a sconce"
You say, "That you pull."
You say, "And a chute appears."

Atania glances at Lavastene.

A low, sibilant voice speaks from within the fireplace, "You forget that I called you naive, little fly... and naive you are."

Atania exclaims, "Lavastene. Close the chute!"

You laugh out loud!
You say, "Ye let me escape."
You say, "Ye shall pay for that."

A low, sibilant voice speaks from within the fireplace, "I do not intend to now."

You say, "Nae."
You say, "It will come thou."
You say, "I have found where you are weakest."
You say, "Where you are afraid."

Crackles of emerald light slither from the fireplace and along the floor, coalescing into a robed figure.

You see Lord Morvule Thinevael the Luukosian High Priest.
He appears to be very old, has emerald slit-pupiled eyes, and dark green scaled skin.
He has a series of wavy ophidian marks upon his neck.
He is holding a dark wooden staff swirled with a sinuous spiral of black ora in his left hand.
He is wearing a long deep-hooded cloak, a gleaming bronze ring set with a glittering red gem, a carved emerald Luukos symbol set upon a disc of bronze and some dark flowing robes.

(Atania's body stiffens behind Lavastene.)

Morvule hisses, "I tire of exterminating your kind like the ratssss they are."

You glance at Morvule.
You say, "The storms shall give me strength to free thy soul Morvule."

Lavastene stares at Morvule.

Morvule hisses, "A pity that sssso little of you possesssss any true potential. You're dissssgusssstingly persssissstant."

You say, "Ye shall be saved from ye tormentor Morvule."

Morvule shrugs slightly.

You say, "I can feel your tortured soul begging for freedom..."

Atania says, "Serpent Priest, he did nay know for where he had blundered into, and only seeks a way to free the Gatekeeper from his bonds. Please, pity the ignorant."

Morvule hisses, "If you wissssh to believe I am tortured, that is your perogative. I care little about you, anyway."

Morvule flicks his eyes over to Atania.

(Atania tilts her head back down to the ground.)

Waves of heat continue to wash over the room from the obsidian fireplace.

You say, "If ye care..."
You say, "Ye are in here now."

Morvule hisses, "High Priest, ssssylvan. If you would keep his lips ssssewn shut, I would sssspare him."

You say, "Ue do care."
You say, "Ye."
You say, "Ye know that I have seen to much."

Atania says, "Galesmight .. please, you nay understand what it be you face."

Lavastene asks, "High Priest?"

You peer quizzically at Atania.
You say, "Do nae be afraid."

Atania says, "Only afraid for you! You stare down at him like he be a rat to be smushed, and nay what he be."

You say, "Nae."
You say, "He is not a rat to be smushed."
You say, "But to be saved from his tormentor."

Morvule hisses, "Will you, or won't you? My patiensssse is wearing thin."

Atania says, "He does nay wish salvation. Whatever he wishes, please, just do it."
Atania nods her head yes, begging with pleading eyes.

You kneel down.

Atania asks, "Please?"

You say, "I shall save you Morvule."
You say, "Do nae be afraid anymore."

Morvule hisses, "Though why you would wish to ssssave a deluded is beyond my undersssstanding. Will he be ssssilent or will he be a very loud corpsssse?"

(Atania whispers in a trembling voice, "Please, Sir Rogue, give him your silence.")

Lavastene says, "Now is not a time to be afraid."

You say, "Ye have my silence, my ears are listenning."

Morvule hisses, "I care not for the ssssilence of your babble. Your pledge, your promisssse to keep ssssertain what you ssssaw down in the ruins is only kept to you is all I sssseek."

(Atania whispers towards Galesmight, "Whatever he wants, just grant it to him. Please, Sir Rogue. Please.")

You ask, "Why do ye need my pledge?"
You say, "I am a mere mortal."

Lavastene grins.
Lavastene stares at Morvule.

Morvule hisses, "Pledge or die, your choissse, half-elf."

You stand back up.
You say, "Ye shall be free."

Morvule shrugs slightly.

Atania closes her eyes for a moment.

Morvule hisses, "Sssso be it."

You nod.
You say, "it shall be"

Morvule flicks his hands toward Galesmight idly and a luminescent lash of green energy slams right into his head.

It seems you have died, my friend. Although you cannot do anything, you are keenly aware of what is going on around you...

You mentally give a sigh of relief as you remember that the Goddess Lorminstra owes you a favor.

...departing in 10 mins...

* Galesmight just bit the dust!

Lavastene growls ferociously!

Atania winces.

Suddenly you have the strangest feeling that you are being watched.
The feeling fades as quickly as it came.

Atania just touched Lavastene.

Lavastene gestures at Morvule.
Lavastene hurls a stream of fire at Morvule!

Atania says, "Nay your battle, Lavastene. Nay your battle."

Morvule fades into a green lash of smoke that dissipates into nothing.

Atania gestures and utters a phrase of magic.
Atania gestures at you.
You feel a tingle on your soul, as if a powerful hand is gently cradling it.
(Thy soul is bound to thy body for an extra 16 minutes.)
Atania hisses.

Lavastene exclaims, "Damn you!"

Atania exclaims, "Damn you both!"
Atania says, "Foolish you both be. Foolish."

Lavastene glares at Atania.
Lavastene asks, "Foolish?"

Atania kneels down.

You say, "Atania Morvule is afraid."
You say, "He is afraid of me."

Atania asks, "Afraid?"
Atania says, "He nay looked much afraid when he took your head off."

You say, "He can be my servant."

Atania stares off into space.

You say, "And I will forever be corrupted by his power."
You say, "Or I can help free his soul."

Atania says, "You speak as if you were touched by the Moon Goddess."

Waves of heat continue to wash over the room from the obsidian fireplace.

Atania says, "Ach. I should leave you here to rot, for being a fool."

Lavastene asks, "Are you willing to perform the ceremony?"
Lavastene stares at Atania.

Atania frets.

Lavastene asks, "Or must a wizard do it?"

Atania says, "Aye .."
Atania slowly empties her lungs.
Atania just pulled your lifeless body into her arms.

Atania gestures and utters a phrase of magic.
Atania gestures at you.
A silvery translucent thread extends from Atania encompassing you.
You sense the warmth and comfort of salvation.
Atania just opened a delicate gossamer scroll satchel.

Waves of heat continue to wash over the room from the obsidian fireplace.

Atania recites:

  "With these blessed symbols,
I do cleanse this body and soul of Galesmight,
In preparation for the Ceremony of Restoration."

Atania removes a polished blood-red sphere from in her gossamer scroll satchel.
(Atania holds her sphere up towards the sky. The light hits the sphere and bends around it's smooth edges, bringing definition and depth to the perfectly formed red sphere.)

Atania recites:

"May this symbol of the Planar sphere
   aid thee in thy battle,
As you return from the state of death,
   to that of the living."

(Atania leans over the body of Galesmight and touches the red sphere to his forehead.)
Atania put a polished blood-red sphere in her gossamer scroll satchel.
Atania removes a polished dark green sphere from in her gossamer scroll satchel.
(Atania holds her sphere up towards the sky. The light hits the sphere and bends around it's smooth edges, bringing definition and depth to the perfectly formed green sphere. )
Atania recites:

"May this symbol of the Elemental sphere,
   impart strength within your spirit,
As it is joined with your physical body,
and returns to the living state."

(Atania leans over the body of Galesmight and touches the green sphere to his forehead.)
Atania put a polished dark green sphere in her gossamer scroll satchel.

You say, "Lavastene thankye friend."
You say, "I know Morvule's weakness."

Lavastene nods.

Atania removes a twilight blue sphere from in her gossamer scroll satchel.
(Atania holds her blue sphere up towards the sky. The light hits the sphere and bends around it's smooth edges, bringing definition and depth to the beautifully formed blue sphere.)
Atania recites:

"May this symbol of the Spiritual sphere
   protect and guide our souls,
As they seek out each other and join together
binding us for a brief moment in time."

(Atania leans over the body of Galesmight and touches the blue sphere to his forehead. Atania then reaches forward and touches the body of Galesmight while placing the sphere to her own forehead. With her eyes closed, her lips begin to move in silent prayer.)

You say, "It will be a challenge of my soul to seek the truth."
