Subject: A Missive to the King

Esana paced softly in front of the marble fireplace, deep in thought. The library in House Ilynov always brought her a sense of peace and comfort. Pausing to absently stoke the fire burning in the hearth, she moved to the small writing desk beneath the window and pulled the simple chair out. Sitting carefully on the very edge of the chair, her wings resting comfortably on either side of the chair's deep seat, she carefully pushed an old timeworn journal to one corner of the desk, pulled some gold-edged ivory parchment from the drawer, dipped her quill in the inkwell, and began writing.

King Qalinor Vaalor Sovereign Commander of the Crimson Legions,

I have been asked to accompany the Lady Rohese Bayvel-Timsh'l as a member of a delegation sent to the west by the Argent Mirror. I am certain the Argent Mirror has been in contact with you so I will not take your time with the details. I am requesting your leave to make the journey and represent House Vaalor to the best of my ability. Furthermore, I would like to request the Crown commission several crates of wooden training swords be crafted at my expense. Many donations are being collected and delivered to aid the children affected by recent events. I would like to offer my services and the training weapons to share our culture and teach those willing how to properly defend themselves that they may not continue to be victims.

Respectfully,

Lady Esana Ilynov
High Priestess of House Vaalor
Squire of the Crimson Reserves

Reading over the parchment carefully, Esana nodded once in satisfaction. "That will have to do for now", she thought as she carefully dusted the still wet ink with a fine layer of pure white sand. Carefully shaking the excess sand from the missive, she folded it carefully and dropped a heavy dollop of bright crimson wax across the seam. Pressing her vaalorn signet ring deeply into the hot wax, she sealed the letter with a segreant wyvern with crossed longswords beneath ensuring the King would know it was from House Ilynov. Nearly before she was finished, an elderly Winedotter gnome appeared at her elbow and silently slipped the finished parchment from the desk, disappearing without a word to deliver the missive. Smiling to herself, Esana respectfully centered the timeworn journal on the small writing desk, returning it to its place of honor.

As the crimson liveried scribe finished reading the missive aloud, Qalinor nodded slowly. "Thank you for your time today," the King stated flatly. "Please leave your quill and parchment. I will pen the response myself", Qalinor continued. Blinking in surprise, the scribe nodded with a worried look while silently obeying the command. "I'll have to reassure that fellow he is still in my service", the King thought to himself as he began to write.

Lady Esana Ilynov High Priestess of House Vaalor

I have given your request due consideration. Though it is true I have been reluctant to send any aid to the west of late, after all we ourselves are still recovering from the wars this spring, I do not find your request over burdensome upon the Crown. Therefore, I have commissioned the crafting of the training weapons as per your missive. I am in complete agreement with your assessment of training the future generations to defend their holdings and with sharing our culture. I can think of no elf better suited to represent Ta'Vaalor and the Crown than you. I have full faith in your diplomatic skills and your ability to represent House Vaalor in a noble manner. As such, I am officially naming you ambassador from House Vaalor for this mission with the full weight of the Crown behind your decisions. Should any question your standing, present this letter as proof of your station.

Go with Honor,

King Qalinor Vaalor the Sovereign Commander of the Crimson Legions

Pressed below in a pool of hardened crimson wax is the sergeant wyvern, official seal of House Vaalor.

As the King finished sealing the parchment, Lerok the Caretaker of House Ilynov silently appeared at his elbow. Smiling, Qalinor handed him the letter with a polite nod.

Dear Baron Dunrith Malwind,

Warmest greetings from Icemule Trace. On behalf of Mayor Nihala Winterberry of Icemule Trace, I would humbly like to introduce myself. I am Dirvy Britbane, Chairwoman of the Icemulian Collective for the Improvement of Civilian Life, Etc., colloquially known as I.C.I.C.L.E. The purpose of our Collective is to ensure Icemule Trace is a safe place for our townspeople and visitors, to help enrich the lives of those who visit and live in our town, and to help maintain the integrity of our rich and diverse history.

The purpose of this missive is to establish diplomatic relations, in the hopes of building a prosperous and productive relationship between Icemule Trace and the City of Vornavis. As you know, our municipalities are sometimes vulnerable to invasive forces that seek to destroy what we all have built. Icemule Trace would be happy to heed the call, should the City of Vornavis ever summon.

An I.C.I.C.L.E. ambassador has been chosen to visit the City of Vornavis, to help establish diplomatic relations between the City of Vornavis and Icemule Trace. The ambassador is Arnylon Cosset, and I humbly ask that you please arrange for an emissary to meet with him in the City of Vornavis, so that he may discuss these matters in person. If this can be arranged, please send a missive addressed to me, stating when this meeting will occur and with whom he should meet.

Thank you for your consideration in this matter.

Ta’Illistim Keep
28th day of Lormesta, in the year 5118

Seneschal,

As you are no doubt aware, I am currently in Vornavis at the behest of our beloved Argent Mirror to extend an offer of further assistance to Baron Dunrith Malwind for the many displaced in the Empire’s northern territories. Last night, our party had the opportunity to present the Mirror’s cause to His Excellency at a formal court session. I thought it would be appropriate to send you a brief update of our progress.

I am pleased to report that we have been made to feel very welcome in the freeport and the Baron appears to be open to our proposal. I took it upon myself to bestow the gift we briefly discussed as a token of friendship and symbol of sincerity; it was kindly received.

Whilst the rather tactless reference made by the ICICLE ambassador shortly after to our “fancy garb and lavish gifts” caused some minor consternation within the party and amongst others of our group, I’m fairly sure the gentleman in question didn’t mean to give offence and I wish to reassure the Mirror that it is unlikely to result in a diplomatic incident.

His Lordship, Salnim Malwind, has invited us to discuss the matter further – aid that is, not the momentary lapse in diplomacy on the part of the envoy from the frozen north - and we now await his formal invitation. I shall remain in Vornavis until such meeting has taken place or until the Mirror requests my return.

I am, as ever, the Mirror’s most humble and obedient servant.

High Lady Rohese Bayvel-Timsh’l
Scrivener of Ta’Illistim and Patron of the Displaced

OOC note and disclaimer: I just wanted to say that, despite the lateness of the hour for me, I had so much fun with everyone last night, thank you. You have all reminded me why I love playing GS and Rohese in particular.

I hope Arnylon didn’t mind me mentioning his opening remarks in the letter to the Argent Mirror but, whilst I’m sure he didn’t mean for it to cause offence (or did he?!), it resulted in a few wry comments and considerable amusement among the elven contingent and added an interesting political tangent to the proceedings. I do love a little elven indignation for breakfast!

More please!

To whom it may concern,

You will forgive the lack of proper address as I am uncertain if this missive is from the Mayor of Icemule Trace, the Lady Dirvy, or some organization with little to no political standing. Based on the lack of proper address to my Sovereign, I am inclined to believe it is the latter; a group with no official diplomatic standing. Furthermore, given the reports I have received of the rather tactless remarks made by an ambassador of the group in question regarding delegates we recently sent to the west, I am not in the least bit inclined to even sully His Majesty's hands with this disgraceful attempt at protocol. Your request for an audience is hereby categorically denied.

A letter arrives at the Lord Chamberlain's Office, tucked into a crisp envelope and sealed with a wax stamp of an unfurling iceblossom. Carefully marked in the corner is the address:

Lord Retassal er'Anlan Vaalor
Office of the Lord Chamberlain
Guardian Keep
Ta’Vaalor

Once opened, it reads:

Sixth of Koaratos, in the year 5118

Lord Chamberlain,

I am writing this letter to you out of concern for what appears to be a fractured relationship between Icemule and Ta’Vaalor. I would like to formally apologize to His Majesty and his people on behalf of I.C.I.C.L.E and Icemule Trace. The offense was unacceptable and we are deeply sorry that it happened. Please regard that the offender whose offhand remarks were noted, does not speak for Icemule Trace- I do. And that is certainly not what we think of the elves, nor the Nations.

To extend an olive branch, so to speak, I would like to deliver to you the provisions that Icemule Trace has been collecting for your people. We understand the harsh winter you are suffering and would like to provide assistance as best we can, as no one knows the snow like we do and how difficult the cold can be.

With your permission, I request to hold audience with your Court. I shall be accompanied by Mayor Lylia Rashere of Wehnimer’s Landing, who also has been taking up donations in the name of helping Ta’Vaalor.

I humbly ask that you send a missive letting us know (at your convenience of course), when we may arrive. Thank you for your time, and this opportunity- I look forward to future correspondence.

Signed by My Hand,

Tawariell Andrenae, Mayor of Icemule Trace

A gilt-foiled ivory parchment envelope on the maoral desk bears the address:

Ta’Vaalor

The letter before it is penned in a neat copperplate hand, the Elven characters deeply slanted but still legible.

Koaratos 7, 5118

To the Lord Chamberlain,

Please allow Wehnimer's Landing to join Icemule Trace in offering the Sovereign Commander our well wishes and a gift. Warmer relations and heaping platters do much to remove the last chill of winter's grip from the land, we find, and we are fortunate to be able to share the prosperity of our port town with others.

I welcome your reply.

Subject: A day at the docks

Standing at the docks as the snow swirls around him, Qalinor listens intently to the Dockmaster. "Two more ships from Ta'Nalfein are nearly unloaded My Sovereign. Loenthran sails have been spotted downriver and we're moving quickly to make room for them here Sire," the dockmaster intones matter of factly. He continues, "One hundred and eighty tons of sea bass, salmon, and mackerel, fifty and four kegs of Nalfein wine, and roughly three hundred tons of various fresh fruits survived the journey. That is just the first ship My Sovereign. Dispatches from the Loenthran vessels indicate that they set sail as soon as possible upon receiving the High Legionnaire's dispatches, but the journey along the coast was choppy this time of year and thus the delay." Nodding in acknowledgement, Qalinor turned to the Quartermaster at his side, "See that every shop, household, and mess hall is stocked before you worry about Guardian Keep. I will not feast while my people starve", he solemnly spoke. Turning back to the dockmaster he chided, "Tell the dockhands the crown is paying double if they get those ships unloaded by morning. It would be a horrible insult to let our allies aid rot at the docks." "Aye sir!", the dockmaster responded as he turned barking orders that sent dockhands scurrying in all directions at once.

As Qalinor turned to continue his rounds before returning to the Keep, Lord Chamberlain Retassal placed a quiet hand upon his elbow, catching his attention. "Forgive me for interrupting your personal time My Sovereign," he begins, " but a matter has arisen you should be appraised of. We have received missives from one Tawariell Andrenae, the newly elected Mayor of that halfing hamlet Icemule Trace, and a Lylia Rashere Faendryl who is apparantly Mayor of the border town Wehnimer's Landing," he finishes with an arched eyebrow. "Is it something that requires my attention," Qalinor asked. "Not at the moment My Sovereign, after the last breach of protocol and the recent insulting remarks by a representative of ICICLE here in the fortress, I will be personally vetting them before you need concern yourself. It seems they wish to send us aid," Retassal crisply replied. "The other elven Houses have provided plenty, insist that they do not go to the expense and trouble of sending wagons along that trail. Reassure them that we are recovering and have supplies entering the Fortress daily," Qalinor instructed. Retassal bowed low and began absentmindedly taking notes. With a simple nod, Qalinor expressed his trust in the Lord Chamberlain's ability to handle the situation as Retassal took his leave.

Subject: A response to the West

Hunkered over his simple writing desk in his sparsely decorated office, Lord Chamberlain Retassal took out parchment and dipped a quill into the nearby ink jar. After a momentary pause, he rang a small silver bell and High Porter Arnranaer appeared silently. "Send for High Legionnaire Kakoon, I am going to need messengers," Ratassal requested before going back to his writing. He never even glanced up to verify his request had been received. His quill flowed effortlessly across the paper, writing was his guilty pleasure. While others considered reports and lists a burden, Retassal could pen notes, missives, and lists all day long. The sound of boot heels snapping together brought him from his reverie as High Legionnaire Kakoon snapped to attention before him. "Ah, High Legionnaire, I am going to need two volunteers to deliver missives to the West. Make them Squires as the recipient's station does not demand a higher ranking member," Retassal stated. "You will have them in your office within the hour," the High Legionnaire replied before turning quickly on his heel and striding off.

Lady Tawariell Andrenae
Mayor of Icemule Trace

My lady,
The Crown wishes to thank you for your offer of aid and your apology for earlier missteps. At this time, the Fortress has received ample supplies from the other elven Houses and His Majesty requests that you not suffer the expense and hardships of bringing goods so far east. There are matters to discuss concerning the actions of some who claim to represent your hamlet, and I feel it is in the best interest of both parties to resolve such matters. I will receive you in the Meeting Hall inside Wyvern Keep at nine in the evening as elves tell time on Feastday, the twenty-eighth of Koaratos. I look forward to welcoming you to Ta'Vaalor.

Retassal er'Anlan Vaalor
Lord Chamberlain Guardian Keep

Dusting the parchment with fine white sand, Retassal gingerly folds it and applies the royal seal of House Vaalor. Looking up, he nods once and hands the letter to Squire Marcelina and instructs her to deliver the message only to the hand of Lady Tawariell Andrenae. Quickly taking a second parchment, he begins a second letter.

Lady Lylia Rashere Faendryl
Mayor of Wehnimer's Landing

Lady Lylia,
I do not believe we have had the pleasure of meeting, but I must commend you on your penmanship and protocol. At this time, we have received ample supplies from the other elven Houses and His Majesty requests that you not suffer the expense and hardships of bringing goods so far east. I believe there are some matters between the Crown and your frontier village that predate your term. Perhaps these could be discussed and some agreeable resolution reached between us. I will receive you in the Meeting Hall inside Wyvern Keep at nine in the evening as elves tell time on Feastday, the twenty-eighth of Koaratos. I look forward to discussing these matters with you.

Retassal er'Anlan Vaalor
Lord chamberlain Guardian Keep

Dusting the parchment with fine white sand, Retassal once again gingerly folds it and applies the royal seal of House Vaalor. Without a glance, he places the parchment in the waiting hand of Squire Laerchyl and instructs him to deliver the letter only to the hand of Lady Lylia Rashere Faendryl.

"That is done," he thought to himself. "Now to prepare to receive these… dignitaries."

Subject: Dealings with the West

A crier in crimson livery belts out nearby,

"Hear ye, hear ye.

Let it be formally known that a military accord has been reached between the city-state of Icemule Trace and the elven House of Vaalor allowing for the free movement of Vaalorian troops through Icemulian territory and airspace from this day forth!"

Reading from a scroll, he continues with the particulars,

"In a meeting between Icemule Trace's Mayor Tawariell and High Lord Chamberlain Retassal, a military accord was agreed to in principal allowing movement of Vaalorian troops through any territory, or airspace, controlled by Icemule Trace. This agreement was struck as a show of contrition and recompense for several slights against Vaalorian delegates by representatives of the western city-state. High Lord Chamberlain shook the Mayor's hand and thanked her for the positive move in relations between the two entities."

Deftly switching scrolls, the crier recites,

"In other news, the High Lord Chamberlain met with the Mayor of Wehnimer's Landing, Lylia to discuss longstanding slights against House Vaalor and the elven nations as a whole. Expressing her desire to repair relations, and make recompense for actions heretofore ignored by the small Western frontier town, Mayor Lylia respectfully informed the High Lord Chamberlain that it was not within her sole authority to transfer the sovereignty of parcels of land, but would need to meet with the Town Council. This was in response to the High Lord Chamberlain's statement that nothing less than the return of the settlement known as the Elven Village to Vaalorian control and sovereignty would atone for the previous attacks upon the fortress by Wehinmer's landing. The Mayor expressed optimism at the prospect.

The High Lord Chamberlain expressed his gratitude for the delegates' attendance, as well as hope at improved relations between the principal states involved."

For those interested in the discussion, here is an edited log for your reading pleasure.

[Wyvern Keep, Meeting Hall]
Chairs arranged in concentric circles radiate out from the center of this spacious circular chamber. A clear area approximately fifteen feet wide directly in the center provides ample space for speech-giving, pontificating, lecturing, or whatever activity might need to be done in front of a large audience. Elegant tapestries sewn in a red and gold pattern drape the walls and ceiling to dampen the echo from the red marble floor. A set of walnut double doors allows exit to the lobby.

Retassal says, "Would someone allow the Mayors in please."

Retassal says, "Mayors only."

Retassal says, "No retainers please."

Speaking in Elven, Retassal says, "It is a pleasure to have both of you within our fair fortress this evening. So rarely do we get visitors from the west, that I am afraid you may be a bit of a novelty."

Speaking kindly in Elven to Retassal, Tawariell says, "It is most certainly a pleasure to be here in your beautiful city."

Speaking in Elven, Retassal says, "It is a pleasure to be able to conduct this in a more elegant tongue as well."

Speaking in Elven, Lylia replies, "I believe I may speak for both of us when I say the pleasure is ours to be received so courteously. And indeed, it is a delight to speak something other than the roughest of the Common tongue."

Speaking in Elven to Lylia, Retassal says, "Such is the trials of public service at times though."

Speaking in Elven, Lylia agrees, "One does what one must."

Speaking in Elven to Lylia, Retassal says, "Your letters were well received. Proper protocol was followed, and the offers of aid, though no longer needed, were appreciated."

Speaking in Elven, Retassal says, "I believe we can make some progress this evening in relations. As the visiting delegates, I will cede you the floor first."

Speaking in Elven, Retassal says, "I would be remiss if I did not introduce two members of my delegation...".

Speaking in Elven, Retassal says, "High Legionnaire Kakoon Arkhor, directs our Crimson Legion Reserve garrison."

Speaking in Elven, you say, "Pleasure to meet both of you."

Speaking kindly in Elven to you, Tawariell says, "And you."

Speaking in Elven, Lylia murmurs, "The pleasure is mine."

Speaking in Elven, you say, "And congratulations to both of you for winning your elections."

Speaking in Elven, you say, "I'm sure your homes are better for it."

Speaking in Elven, Retassal says, "And First Legionnaire Esana Ilynov, the High Priestess of House Vaalor. She not only serves as second in charge of the Reserve Garrison, but is the High Priestess of our noble House."

Speaking in Elven, Lylia says, "I would be arrogant to agree and a liar if I demurred."

Speaking respectfully in Elven to Tawariell, Esana says, "An honor to meet you."

Speaking kindly in Elven to Esana, Tawariell says, "And you."

Speaking respectfully in Elven to Lylia, Esana says, "And an honor to meet you as well."

Speaking in Elven, Lylia replies, "An honor."

Speaking in Elven, Retassal says, "Now then, the floor is yours."

Speaking in Elven to Retassal, Tawariell says, "As you know I am only recently elected Mayor. I have come here because of the negligence of others, that I have only just been made aware of. I am nae certain of the situation, or its particulars, but I know there was great offense to Vaalor and I know I mentioned it in the letter... However I would like to apologize in person, we are deeply sorry, for the actions of the offenders."

Speaking in Elven to Tawariell, Retassal says, "Your apologies are appreciated and speak well of you as a leader."

Speaking in Elven to Tawariell, Retassal says, "If you would, we may speak of the offenses and some remedies."

Speaking in Elven to Tawariell, Retassal says, "As there have been several..."

Speaking in Elven to Retassal, Tawariell says, "It is my hope that Vaalor and Icemule Trace can find some sort of accord, and everything can be smoothed out as it were. I have brought gifts, in the hopes of peace, if I may give them."

Speaking in Elven, Lylia says, "For me as well? How lovely of you."

Speaking in Elven, Retassal says, "If you would High Legionnaire."

Speaking in Elven, Tawariell explains, "These gifts are to remember this day. The alexandrite is the stone of the Peacemakers, amongst the Truefolk. And the lark represents a new dawn, signaling the hope that I have for a new beginning."

Speaking in Elven to Tawariell, Retassal says, "This is beautiful. Such craftsmanship."

Speaking in Elven to Tawariell, Retassal says, "Thank you."

Speaking quietly in Elven to Retassal, Tawariell says, "Very welcome, my Lord."

Speaking in Elven to you, Retassal says, "Would you place that back in the box please."

(Kakoon places the pin carefully back into the box.)

Speaking in Elven to Tawariell, Retassal says, "Now then. We would discuss this organizarion in your town. It seems to be the cause of much tension between our realms."

Speaking in Elven to Retassal, you say, "I will hold onto it until the meeting has adjorned."

Speaking in Elven to Tawariell, Retassal says, "Discounting the abhorrent breach of protocol in the initial approach, which I think we can all agree was half-hearted at best, members of this organization openly ridiculed members of our delegation to the western barony of Vornavis. Additionally, one member in particular has taken it upon herself to openly insult My Sovereign, His Majesty King Qalior Vaalor the Sovereign Commander of the Crimson Legions, openly within our fortress."

Speaking in Elven to Tawariell, Retassal says, "Despite cautions and reprimands from guards on duty, the insults continued until the guard captain was nearly consulted."

Speaking in Elven, Retassal says, "This, of course, is unacceptable behavior."

Speaking firmly in Elven to Retassal, Tawariell agrees, "Absolutely."

Speaking in Elven to Tawariell, Retassal says, "Now then, in our society, as it should be in all, an organization is only as good as its leaders. And as such, good leaders are responsible for the actions of their subordinates."

Speaking in Elven to Tawariell, Retassal says, "Your gracious words, excellent protocol, and thoughtful gift do you credit. I wonder though..."

Speaking in Elven to Tawariell, Retassal says, "House Vaalor will accept the following as recompense for the offense given. A military accord with the community of Ice Mule Trace allowing free and permanent military access and troop movements of Vaalorian Legions through your lands."

Speaking in Elven to Tawariell, Retassal says, "As well as the expulsion of said individual from further dealings."

Speaking curiously in Elven to Retassal, Tawariell says, "If I knew who the offender was, I would."

Speaking in Elven to Retassal, Tawariell admits, "As far as I was told, the offender has already disappeared."

Speaking in Elven to Tawariell, Retassal says, "At this time, the Crown does not wish to establish a permanent outpost, simply the abilty to move troops through your lands unhindered."

Speaking in Elven to Tawariell, Retassal says, "I will provide the individual privately."

Speaking in Elven, Retassal says, "This offender was here as recently as less than a month's time."

Speaking in Elven, Retassal says, "Which is when the most recent incident occured."

Speaking in Elven to Tawariell, Retassal says, "I understand if you need time to consider. Or wish to seek council on this matter."

Speaking in Elven to Retassal, Tawariell says, "I will agree to these terms and happily, in good faith, remove the offender. I will also allow the movement of your troops though Icemule Trace and surrounding lands. However, I ask that your troops treat my citizens without harassment, and that Icemuleans, per'aps be a little more welcome, in Vaalor. That is my hope."

Speaking in Elven to Tawariell, Retassal says, "I can speak for the troops behavior in your lands. You will have no issues there. I, sadly cannot change every Vaalorian's mind or heart. I will put forth that My Sovereign has been welcoming of all in recent years."

Speaking in Elven to Tawariell, Retassal says, "I believe your apologies will go further to changing their treatment here than any accord."

Speaking in Elven to Tawariell, Retassal says, "Then we are agreed. We can have our scribes work out the lesser details."

Speaking confidently in Elven to Retassal, Tawariell agrees, "We are agreed."

Retassal gives Tawariell a firm handshake.

Retassal recites in Elven:

"Let it be known that the city state of Ice Mule Trace and the elven House Vaalor have come to an accord."

Speaking in Elven to Lylia, Retassal says, "Mayor."

Speaking in Elven, Lylia replies, "Lord Chamberlain. I thank you again for the audience."

Speaking in Elven, Lylia says, "A small port town, however prosperous, ambitious or well-favored, can only offer so much aid, if aid were still required."

Speaking in Elven, Lylia says, "We are, of course, gratified to hear that it is not."

Speaking in Elven, Lylia admits, "Yet aid was only part of my mission here. I confess to an ulterior motive."

Speaking in Elven, Lylia smoothly says, "I am sure those who know me and mine are stunned at this."

Speaking in Elven, Lylia firmly says, "We have neglected relations and allowed them to cool, and I believe we have all had more than enough of the cold, both in metaphor and in fact."

Speaking in Elven, Lylia says, "So I come not only to support Mayor Tawariell in her own offer, but to extend a warm hand in amity."

Speaking in Elven, Lylia says, "I, too, have brought a gift, if I may. It is made of wool from our local roltons around Wehnimer's Landing and woven by our own Dari Sulka."

Speaking in Elven to Lylia, Retassal says, "Thank you, for the gift."

Speaking in Elven to Esana, Retassal says, "High Priestess, would you please see to this."

Speaking respectfully in Elven to Retassal, Esana says, "Of course, Lord Chamerlain."

Speaking in Elven, Retassal says, "An.. unusual collection of items."

Speaking in Elven, Lylia notes, "The blood marble is suitable for carving, a highly sought-after product from our Turamzzyrian neighbors."

Speaking in Elven to Lylia, Retassal says, "It is beautiful."

Speaking in Elven to Lylia, Retassal asks, "And the cloak?"

Speaking in Elven, Lylia says, "A traveler's cloak, in hopes that you or your envoys may use it when visiting us in the West. It is humble wool, but warm."

Speaking in Elven to you, Retassal says, "If you will hold that as well High Legionnaire."

Speaking in Elven to Retassal, you say, "Of course Lord Chamberlain."

Speaking in Elven, Lylia says, "I welcome your thoughts on how we may foster this warmth between our town and your city."

Speaking in Elven to Lylia, Retassal says, "I will not disagree with you that relations have cooled considerably from what they were. However I do not think it is without reason."

Speaking in Elven to Lylia, Retassal says, "Though you were not responsible for the offenses when they occurred, nonetheless I now lay them at your feet for some recompense and closure."

Speaking in Elven, Lylia replies, "Recompense is something I am certain I can offer, and I shall finish what others may have started."

Speaking in Elven, Retassal says, "Some years ago, a representative of your frontier town, one Lord Barnom Slim, approached our gates with demands of fealty and brought war to our Fortress when his demands were undonditionally refused."

Speaking in Elven, Retassal says, "Not long after such actions, a group of scholars from our sister city Ta'Illistim were sent to your town to aid as a measure of good faith."

Speaking in Elven, Retassal says, "They were murdered while being held in captivity by authorities in your town."

Speaking in Elven, Retassal says, "These actions have been summarily ignored, denied, and dismissed for far too long."

Speaking in Elven to Lylia, Retassal says, "As such, House Vaalor now requires this."

Speaking in Elven to Lylia, Retassal says, "House Vaalor demands the return of what is rightfully ours and has been all along. The return of the settlement known coloquially in your lands as the Elven Village."

Speaking in Elven to Lylia, Retassal says, "This will be returned to Vaalorian control and fall under our jurisdiction and laws."

Speaking in Elven to Lylia, Retassal says, "To do with as we see fit."

Speaking in Elven, Lylia replies, "It is not mine to give. As I am certain you know, we are...well, I hesitate to say burdened with a Town Council. But it does sometimes feel this way. As I am a mayor and not a Matriarch, I am not at liberty to grant this sovereign territory to anyone -- nor do I arrogate it for ourselves."

Speaking in Elven to Lylia, Retassal says, "Then perhaps a discussion with this town council is in order."

Speaking in Elven, Lylia continues, "The erstwhile 'Lich king,' Barnom Slim, is ended. His phylactery is dust, as is he. The Legionnaires who were fickle and false, Yinh and Yangh, have not been seen in some time, although I could certainly demand more recompense from them than the light penalty they paid. And of course, I shall bring this before the Town Council immediately so we may reach an accord on it."

Speaking in Elven, Lylia says, "It was a savage act, as savage and unnecessary as the death of Chesylcha in its way. I agree that you have waited too long to see recompense."

Speaking in Elven, Lylia says, "I regret this, and I shall do what I can to rectify it."

Speaking in Elven to Lylia, Retassal says, "As to the traitors Yinh and Yangh, the moment they swore fealty, they ceased to be Vaalorian and their names were stricken from the record."

Speaking in Elven, Lylia says, "Then forgive me for having sullied the air with their names. They leave a bitter taste on my tongue as well, for I have no love of oath-breakers."

Speaking in Elven to Lylia, Retassal says, "Your words have been courteous and polite, yet there is a determination in them that grants me hope that we may reach an accord."

Speaking in Elven, Lylia says, "It is my hope as well."

Speaking in Elven to Lylia, Retassal says, "No forgiveness is needed. Our ways are not familiar to many outside of the east."

Speaking in Elven to Lylia, Retassal says, "I will allow you time to take this up with the council. Inform me as soon as a decision is made."

Speaking in Elven, Retassal says, "Now then, to both of you."

Speaking in Elven, Lylia says, "Absolutely."

Speaking in Elven, Retassal says, "Your actions today speak well of yourselves. You have shown humility without relinquishing the keys to your kingdoms."

Speaking in Elven, Retassal says, "This meeting has moved us forward to more friendly relations and a potential audience with My Sovereign."

Speaking in Elven, Retassal says, "I have nothing further official at this time. I believe we could let the others in."

Speaking in Elven, Retassal says, "Thank you both for coming."

Speaking kindly in Elven to Retassal, Tawariell says, "Thank you, very much, for having us."

Speaking in Elven, Lylia replies, "The thanks are due to you for receiving us. We are deeply gratified."

Speaking in Elven, Retassal says, "I myself will realy the information to My Sovereign."

Speaking in Elven to you, Retassal says, "High Legionnaire, if you will."

Speaking in Elven to Zayp, you say, "Let's return the Lord Chamberlain to Guardian Keep."

Speaking in Elven, you say, "Protection detail, forward march."

Squire Legionnaire Zayp's group just went through a set of double doors.

Subject: A Letter to the Citizens of Icemule Trace

Taking the clean sheet of gilt-edged vellum, the town crier firmly nails it to hang with the rest of the official notices, giving the writing a once over before nodding in satisfaction and turning on his heel to continue his day.

To the Citizens of Icemule Trace,

As most already know, either by word of mouth from other citizens or speaking to me personally in public, I have made an agreement with the Vaalorians, allowing them access to Icemule and the surrounding areas. Some may also have taken notice of the airships that have proceeded to pass over. While I am certain that this is just the beginning, I would like to address that there is no cause for fear or alarm. They are simply passing through at this time.

Some are certainly unhappy with my decision, whether it be due to the memory of the sins of elven forefathers or for personal reasons. I implore those in doubt to look towards the future and see the progress and potential in this situation; trade and commerce to be boosted, new friendships forged, and if we’re so lucky, an alliance. Given the current state of Icemule this would be wisest as we may need the outside security while our own defenses are being rebuilt.

Part of my campaign goal was and still is unification. My hope is that this accord with the Vaalorians lends to it. It sets an example of generosity and friendship- some of the many traits which Icemule Trace is well known for. It is my intention to uphold these standards of our community with any future dealings as well. Consider that I have laid a foundation and from there we can begin to build. Even if it is slow going at first, it is a start.

Having said that, I am eagerly looking forward to any improvements to be made to our dear hamlet. We have in the works plans for a city guard and a festival. I will be taking reports from ICICLE, who I know is also working their hardest to ensure that additions are made smoothly and timely. I will also be having each organization; White Haven, Fenog’s, etc, report to me each month so that I am more informed as to the going-ons of the town and its people. As always I am open to any suggestions or thoughts that you, good citizens, may have.

Change comes swiftly and not easily- but it is in fact, inevitable. It is all around us, in every nook and cranny of Elanthia. Please, remain the loving, welcoming, enduring community that I know you are as we forge ahead into the future together. Thank you as always, for your continued support and faith.
