EXTRACT is a system verb used with appropriate Picking Locks skill and a lockpick to remove the core from plinite, a gem from the Elemental Confluence.

Messaging

Success
You settle into the delicate task of attempting to extract the core of the orange plinite without damaging the valuable casing.
You make a talented attempt (d100=81).

You carefully work your lockpick into the cracks of the plinite and manage to hook onto the glowing core!  You carefully pull the core from its casing and leave it to rest upon the very tip of the plinite, where it can be easily PLUCKed.
Failure, but possible
You settle into the delicate task of attempting to extract the core of the red plinite without damaging the valuable casing.
You make a pathetic attempt (d100=8).

You carefully work your lockpick into the cracks of the plinite, but cannot manage to safely hook onto the glowing core.  After a bit of fruitless struggle, you withdraw your lockpick with the feeling that retrieving the core is within your abilities.
Roundtime: 12 sec.
Failure, too hard
You settle into the delicate task of attempting to extract the core of the red plinite without damaging the valuable casing.
You make an excellent attempt (d100=94).

You struggle to work your lockpick into the cracks of the plinite.  As you do you so, you push just a little too hard and create an ugly new crack!  You withdraw your lockpick before you cause further damage, with the feeling that your abilities are probably not sufficient to retrieve the core.
Roundtime: 19 sec.
Fumble
You settle into the delicate task of attempting to extract the core of the green plinite without damaging the valuable casing.
You make a pathetic attempt (d100=1).

You badly fumble your attempt and accidentally rupture the core!

Your plinite explodes in a blast of energy!
   ... 5 points of damage!
   Patches of flesh removed from left hand.
